Sprint Stock ROM is good enough?? - Touch Pro CDMA

is it me, or is it everyone here??
i never liked CDMA i always had GSM, especial that i travel to the Middle East (Jordan) once a year for a month.
i always thought CDMA was old tech, i still do.
for X-mas i wanted a touch pro, AT&T wanted $750 deposit (which by the way is more than the deposit i put on the apartment i rent, and my rent every month is $1500) so money is low, i check out sprint.
they had the best plan for the money, $99 for simply EVERYTHING, including Navigation.
so my girlfriend bought me one at Best Buy for $199 and sprint approved me for 2 lines with no deposit.
signal here in Southern California (Orange County) is actually not bad.
ran a speed test on EVDO where i live and i got 1.6Mbs which is really cool considering i had a TYTN II on T-mobile's EDGE.
so i open XDA so i can customize this bad boy, and there isn't many ROMS to choose from, so i did the customization using apps and tweaks and the phone runs flawless, 3 days not even 1 reset
and trust me i run everything on the phone from Excel, to media to youtube to qik, Skype is running all day by the way.
i used to use TomTom on my Kaiser but i dont think i need it now with Telenav
so is the stock ROM fast enough for every one here??
i am very happy with the phone, TouchFlo 3D runs very smooth
no complaints except the fact that i cannot do DATA and Voice at the same time, too bad i guess thats why theres Skype, now i wish they would allow video calling!!
Moe

I've had this phone for about 2 weeks now & I have to say that the stock ROM seems good enough for me as well. Coming from a Tmo Wing I'm extremely pleased @ what this phone can accomplish with the stock ROM. I'm sure that I will flash a cooked ROM sooner or later (as I did many times with my Wing) & I am guessing that the new ROM can only make things better.
By the way, how did you get speedtest to run on your phone (always been curious about that)?

i also used my laptop to go on speedtest.net while connected to my touch pro through usb and Internet connection sharing, it wont work on its own cuz sprint doesnt want u to tether but there is hack here somewhere that lets u do it!

CDMA is old tech? Huh?
As for the original question, yep I think the Sprint ROM is pretty darn good, considering. Do the cache tweaks and it's pretty responsive and smooth.
Haven't yet felt the need to find another.

My Sprint Touch Pro with stock ROM is fast enough and works well enough that I'm completely satisfied with it. Would it work better with a tweaked ROM? Maybe, but I don't care. As I already noted, my phone works well enough and I'm not one to fix things that aren't broke. That, and I've already had my fill of problems with tweaked ROMs.
As for Sprint's features versus the other carriers, the people I know who carry a TP or Fuse from the competition all seem to be a little miffed by the fact that their phones don't include as many features as the Sprint TP.
I should also add that I live and work in Orange County, CA and have an Everything plan too.

First three items

stock rom
I agree that after the tweaks my sprint stock rom is speedy and crash proof. I love it

I actually just flashed my Sprint TP for the first time to a ROM I made through PPCKitchen. It's a little quicker and TF3D is a little smoother as well, but I don't think it was worth the trouble to get the minor (at best) boost in performance.

I did the few tweaks and have zero problems with the stock Sprint ROM. I've been with sprint for almost 6 years and with the exception of about 5 dead spots (all carriers have the same ones here in Cleveland) no problems. This is probably one of the best devices I've had from sprint.

Come to the light!
After upgrading from an AT&T Tilt that I was using with T-Mobile service, I was convinced the Sprint stock TP ROM was pretty darn good as well (I flashed/customized the crap out of my old Tilt).
I ended up keeping the stock Sprint ROM for about three months until today, I flashed the MightyROM and let me just say OMGWTFGTFOBBQ!!!
This is FCKING AMAZING!
But I figured since there are some people here still running the stock ROM, would anyone be willing to post the stock wallpapers from the Sprint ROM I forgot to copy them to my SD card before I re-flashed and there were a couple that I really liked, and I don't want to have to re-flash the stock ROM just to get those backgrounds...
There were two in particular that I really want, one was a fire-flower and the other was a bright green vine/plant on a white background.
MAD MAD MAD props to anyone who would be willing to post those up for me!

Juicy 6 is the bomb, if you want to run Rhodium.

stock ROM
When I first got the phone I was really frusterated with it. I was coming from a Motorola razor.. so u can imagine... A friend has the Fuze and he showed me how cool you could make it, I started reading this site and ppc and was doing all kinds of customizations and tried out many different ROMS, I had some issues along the way but nothing I wasnt able to fix, but then I started noticing that When I texted or used my e-mail, my keyboard was lagging real bad, and it would consistantly tyyyypppeeee the same letter over again... un usable! and the on screen key pad is real small.. I had to use the stylus to text or e-mail. I tried all the supposed cab fixes out there, and I reflashed to two different ROMs .. and back to Sprint ROM.. NOTHING worked. I was so pissed! y buy a phone with a keyboard if you cant use it... (ill take part of the blaime though.... messing with it)
Sprint sent me new one and keyboard is fine... Im sooooo scared to change ANYTHING on it now, But I think part of the fun with these phones is being able to try new things and customize it the way that you want it.
I dont know what to do ... risk trying to find a good rom that wont mess with the crucial pieces of my phone, or just trying to find good cab files to customize it... I mean in reality the sprint Rom is plenty fast. but There are so many features that it lacks....

I think the latest Sprint Stock ROM for the Touch Pro is good. But I must say, after trying some custom ROMs, they only improve upon an already good thing. For Rhodium Manila, I recommend StarROM, version 1.6a or 1.7m are in my opinion better than Juicy 7. Because with StarROM, you can make calls from Manila.

there are plenty of cdma roms over on ppcgeeks

I use a cooked ROM beacuse the one that came with my phone, in my experience, is too unstable. Or the software I keep installing on it is...
Anyways, I might even try making my own ROM, if I just figure out how...
(yes, there are loads of tuts on net, found a nice one for Diamond here)
yep, the first day i used TP, i had a crash. So that day i changed my rom directly
I remember the first time when i flashed my fone. I was so nervous. reading reading and again reading, just to make sure.
Yeah, I remember when I flashed my tytn for the first time, it was nerve wracking!! I kept having flashbacks from when I attempted to upgrade my firmware on an HP PPC (non phone), and bricked it.
but the tytn went quite well, I should be getting my Fuze tomorrow, and i'll probably go with the soft reset during setup to avoid bloatware, then wait till something pisses me off enough to flash to NotATreoFan's ROM.
I'm soooo excited!
I literally purchased my Fuze last night, came directly home and flashed ROMeOS onto it. The AT&T ROM is just horrible. It's slow, ugly, bulky, just outright disgusting. I can actually foresee alot of returns on this unit from people who do not know about custom ROMs or XDA in general.
Lighting a Fuze
I used the stock ROM for less than 24 hours, by design, since I wanted some experience using Touch Flo. I did not like it. Touch Flo and my fat fingers do not a match make. I spend last night, yawn, installing ROMeOS 1.4 (I like Hang Tuah's stuff, I have since very early Kaiser/Tilt). Before ROMeOS, my favorite was Dutty's ROM. But even his ROMs, while virtually bulletproof, are "over full". I light light, simple, fast and able to handle the web, phone, contacts and calendar...simultaneously.
Still, with all the ROM changes I have made, each is a little nerve wracking. Since this was my first with the new Fuze, I read a lot of XDA forum entries. And did things exactly as Hang Tuah and others with experience suggested.
Worked perfectly. (Whew!!)

My brand new pro booted 1 time the vodafone rom, used it 2minutes,after that i flasht it already
The original vodafone rom from the netherlands touch pro [email protected] ,cooked rom much faster/stable if you ask me
The second i had a chance, I put on romeos on my Fuze -
Installed the keyboard drivers, and some tweaks here and there.
Best choice so far.
Within 30 minutes of leaving the ATT store, my Fuze was running the Elite ROM. I've had enough devices to know that nothing stock is ever as good as something cooked up here!

I love cooked roms as well. While using the Diamond, I'd constantly be on the lookout for new versions of Dutty's roms. Now that I'm using a Raphael, I look out for the new versions of ROMeOS as well as the Elite versions to play around with.
I got my Touch pro about 10 days ago, It has the official 1.90.405 rom.
I find it very stable and serve all my need realy.
No crash, nothing what so ever of what I see people around here complaining about.
I must say I am very happy with this phone.

as soon i get it from expansis first thing what i did, change the spl is happened before actually i powered up the device 1st time. ... then just have fun....
This is my first windows mobile phone, came from a long line of sony ericsson phones, used the stock rom for a few days and figured this phone is going back to the shop.
Eventually i found my way here and read about the different roms, decided to flash and i think i have tried most of the known roms here by now
moral of the story is that now the phone is a keeper instead of a item i returned.
Currently using V09 by PDAVIET but will upgrade to V10 due to some bugs.
All i need now is a ssh client that uses the resolution of the phone in a proper way then im really happy.

I too like the original htc rom but I cannot stand the voice calling feature...I use microsoft voice command so I cooked up a rom and only removed a few things I did not like to be in rom and it runs stable as hell with no memory leaks and just do not trust all the **** others do with the rom. It runs perfect. Once htc comes out with a newer rom I will do the same thing unless I find a perfect rom that someone else makes. I did use other light versions cooked by others for the diamond but with the pro and all that damn memory it comes with its perfect without a few crappy programs that come with it.....

I too Have been playing about cooking the stock Vodafone ROM. I flashed and unlocked it the day I got it as I got the handset on my work contract but wanted to use it on my Personal T-mobile contract as I have a 10GB data allowance on TMob I might release my ROM at some point as I personally thinki it is fast, light and stable. I Also cooked in a few other goodies such as .net CF 3.5 and the Youtube app from an ATT ROM I extracted.

Sounds almost the same as me, except I come from a background of Nokia phones, very happy with the phone now it is cooked
SSH client wise, I use pocketputty which I am very happy with, as ssh clients go, as it allows me to store a ppk file for auth.
i drove from the AT&T store directly to my home PC to flash my Fuze. cooked roms rule. plus it is fun to play with new toys.
The day i got my TP i installed HardSPL and right after that i went to 1 of the first cooked roms from chainfire (firerom).

XV6850 Big disapointment (out of the box)

This is the biggest disappointment yet. VZW really dropped the ball. With the missing memory the phone is nearly crippled. For those that dont know all other variants of this phone have 256 megs of RAM. The VZW version as 192. I dont even see it all and the website says 128. By default TF3D is NOT even enabled. When it is... OMG! The lag is horrendous. Free RAM on first boot can be seen in my screenshot below. 45 megs!! Woot! Great job VZW. My vouge with a custom ROM boots at 75 megs free and has no freakin lag at all. Same thing with my Titan. My Titan will run circles around this disappointment in a shiny package!
This is a SAD day for me and all VZW users.
If your on VZW and are thinking of upgraded from a XV6800 or an XV6900 DONT DO IT! Its not nearly as nimble as teh sprint version. GPS is locked right out of the box. I am so let down. Luckily two days ago I got a brand new vouge. I am packaging this back up and sending it back to VZW.
UPDATE: I did some tweaking on the stock ROM and have the device running pretty decent now. Here is what I did.

30.09 Megs free with TF3D running. WOW!
got 4 of the phones in today, and i've been using it since 10am this morning with TF3D enabled......
TF3D works flawlessly on all the phones, no lag whatsoever in TF3D with google maps, opera, teeter, and activesync running
Does this phone have less memory than any other Touch Pro? Yes
Does it affect the performance of the phone? No. Period.

You did not read my post accurately., I asked you question. I did not say I was using a custom ROM on this phone. I am asking you if you have ever used one of my custom ROMS? IF so you woul understand why I percieve this to be so laggy. My titan is much faster than this.
Everyone on VZW is using the stock rom as of now. There is no unlocker for this crippled model. NONE. They are working on it though. Its a differnt device DI than the rest of them.
What phone are you coming from? Can you give us more info so I can gauge if this is my phone having issues?

Wow. I just read teh second part of your post. WOW. Did you do any speed comparisons? I did. I sat it down with the sprint model side by side today and did basic tasks like sending text, slidgin with TF3D, etc. The VZW version with less memory was much slower.
Can you tell me what benchmarks you used to determine that the speeds were the same? I will run them as well and post my results. You seem to be shooting from the hip on this. You have no proof of what you are saying. If you could once again post your memory results on fresh boot with or without TF 3d running I would love to see. Once again I am trying to determine if my device is defective. Thats the only thing that can explain this lag.
WAIT A MINUTE.... 5 Posts.... Comes in only to say how great the phone is.,... You work for VZW dont you? Be honest.
Ok, I got this thing upto 60 megs of Free RAM without touchflow using MemMaid but thats the best i can get on the stock ROM. It helps the lag quite a bit actually.
Sorry, I misunderstood.......
I'm coming from an Apache using a helmi rom. Coming from that thing, the TP is night and day difference.
I have noticed that the phone lag's pretty bad when it is tilted horizontally, however the sprint phone i tested does the same thing. And again the TF3D is not any slower on the VZW phone than it is on the Sprint version, and i've been mukkin with this thing all day (hope my boss doesnt notice i didnt get any work done )
while running all the above in my previous post i had 22MB free

Ok, then we both stand corrected. Thanks for the info. Apache was pretty slow device man. My Vouge is SMOKIN fast.
WE will have to agree to disagree. To you the device is worthwhile... To me the lacking memory has a huge impact. That fact that sprint boots with over 100 megs free and I am struggling to hit 60 while on my Vouge I can hit 75. I think I just need a custom ROM!
Hopefully this will be unlocked soon.
Yes, My boss came over today and said the same thing.. Said... Does that phone do your work for you too? I just lauged....
Two of my techs bought this phone as well. One on VZW and one on sprint. Another went out and bought the Samsung Something or other that was released with this one.
After another 15 minutes of use and tweaking I am starting to come around. i guess its not that bad for a STOCK Rom but I know it can do a whole lot more when its unlocked... Maybe I am partially frustrated that I cant get GPS yet other than VZ-Crapigator for $10.00 a month.
RE-read... TILTING IT CAN CAUSE IT TO LAG? Oh crap. Can we disable that motion sensor crap?

Holly ****, you wont believe this... Yours is way smoother than mine. Im not joking. This damn thing has to be defective. I will send it back. Yours is like what I expected. Mine... Oh no.. Nothing like yours....
Here is what mine is doing: Gets stuck on tabs like teh screen is dirty but its not, some tabs take twice as long as yours to open. For example, I go to weather and I have to kick back and wait for it to load.
I feared something was wrong with my phone and I think that proves it. When I go to work tomorrow I will compare it with my techs who got theres in.
Thanks again for posting this.... I may have to recant my initial statements.
Here's a decent video that shows the vzw touch pro booting (slowly), and then stalling when the user starts using TF3D. It get's better, but when the user starts playing music, you can hear skips in the music... The portrait to landscape change looks slow too...

CDMA - Verizon Flashing

So I'm a noob and have been reading a lot on fixing/flashing my VZN HTC Touch Pro which lags like nothing else I've ever seen before in my life. Is there a thread dedicated to modding a VZN TP? I have found numerous pieces of info between xda and ppcgeeks but can't seem to find the first step which requires the Verizon_HSPL_Package.zip file to flash my phone. Help?
Another Verizon TP Noob needs help
So I'm also a noob when it comes to flashing ROM. I have the Verizon TP. Does anyone know when VZW is going to update its ROM with the new firmware? I was thinking after I get that I would also install a cooked ROM. What are the odds that I'll brick my phone? I'm not a programmer, but a strong computer user and I can follow directions. What are the best cooked ROMs for VZW TP? I saw a guide on how to flash your 1st ROM for the GSM TP on XDA, it would be cool if someone would do the same thing for VZW TP.
Thanks!
Here is where you will find the information you are looking for in order to unlock the VZW gimped Touch Pro.

PPC Geeks has a lot of info for the VZW TP. There you will also find the unlocker, ROMs, radios, etc..
Thanks for the help! One more quick question, anyone know how I can get a non-browser WLM on my phone?? Can that be added with a custom ROM or does it need to be included in one?
I successfully flashed my Verizon TouchPro with the SSK 1.5 Rom this weekend and it seriously performs like a brand new phone. It's curious to me that HTC would produce the Touch Pro for Verizon with reduce Ram and the Rom image they put on it. The phone was almost unusable out of the box.
Units sold are units sold, but at some point it's about reputation too.

So which SSk did you end up going with? I have reflashed the B2B Rom about 2 days ago and am still having problems , so I am on the prowl for something new...........
Try the MightyRom....
I tried a bunch of different ROMs and the best most stable performance to date has been from Mighty....
I suggest you disable MS Voice Command though as it will lag the machine...
Remove it from the startup folder and the machine works fine....
Also for Verizon users I suggest you use the pagepool changer provided in the rom package to change the pagepool to 12 instead of 24 since verizon had HTC gimp some ram to the radio.....
I would suggest that you continue on with the SSK ROMs or kitchen if you are using a Verizon Touch Pro.
For any other carrier, any other ROM should work but I do think Mighty's ROM is pretty awesome.

I am using Mightys New 4.13 and its pretty good so far. REALLY FAST. I have also downloaded Juicy5 but havent tried it yet. Ideally the best for us Verizon users would be to use a lite/stripped ROM and add the extra stuff yourself so it doesnt consume as much RAM , but it is too tempting with all these awesome ROMs popping up left and right , LOL.

Best ROM for simple folk. Your opinion please?

Hi all,
I am a techy at a large secondary school in the UK. In my wisdom I organised the rollout of 7 XDA Serra devices (O2 branded Raphael) to members of senior staff early this year. Now.... I have had no end of moaning about the appalling ROM O2 supplied, I have changed the radio version and disabled 3G to get 3 days+ from battery, where it was previously 1 day max, added slide-to-unlock and slide to answer.
However the handsets are still frankly rubbish. Crashing and freezing, especially when you try to use them as - god forbid - a phone.
I have two choices -
either find a really good stable and useable ROM (which I hope you can help with!) -Getting them all in for upgrade is the highest level of tedium, so if this is going to happen its going to be a one-shot thing. Gotta get it right first time. These people are middle-aged school workers so dont care about the bling, its gotta be easy to use.
or (the hard way) say they are "unfit for purpose" and try and send them back to O2 for something else.As much as I love fighting the big boys, I really cant be bothered. If they are going to be swapped theres only one handset the senior team would accept. iPhone. Yuk. (IMHO).
So - do you think I'm onto a loser to begin with? is this handset just a dog? It was so hyped at launch I didnt think I could go wrong.
or is it just the ROM? If just the ROM then what's the best ROM around that will tick all the right boxes?
In the meantime I'm off to play with my new HD2....
Thanks in advance.
if you want a simple rom, with smooth operation and good features, try TAEL standard edition. I can vouch for it.

o2 serra
The bad news....The rom supplied with the Serra is a dog (as you have probably learnt). Has problems 'sleeping' at night, is graphically horrible & freezes whenever challenged!
The good news... The device is a winner, all problems are software related, you have some re flashing to do & there are plenty to advise on simple stable rom's better than me.
Clearly with multiple devices & reflashing, you need to be aware of voiding your warranty. Dropped mine four foot onto slate floor & the screen started acting badly.... A freezer might come in handy.....Enjoying NRGZ Rom on a replaced device
Yeah I had figured the Serra ROM is a dog. Thanks for confirming that to me tho!
Your suggestion the hardware is a winner has given me some hope, so thanks.
I will test out the TAEL ROM and see how it fares.
In fact I think I was at one point using the TAEL ROM myself. (I couldnt stand the O2 ROM more than about a week)
If it passes my in-house testing (giving it to my boss for a bit - he's impartial) then I may try the rollout. See if I can fend off the iPhone wanters and their pitchforks.
Any other suggestions for ROMS welcome of course.......

iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia, Palm Pre! even!...
Usually, only the win32 centric IT type like the WinMo. You should have titled your post "Best device for simple folks"
Who's paying for that Leo?
Your prob right, but I got these at the start of this year, when the iPhone (IIRC) only just got exchange sync, and the pre was a distant dream. Plus half of the staff already had Windows PDA's. So I was thinking it would soften the learning curve.
You know what its like now - people act like children over bloody iPhones. I'm not an Apple hater but its horses for courses, iPhones and Macs fine as a choice for home users but not a business tool. Dont get me started on the iPod touch being described by apple as a "handheld learning device" to flog it to education! grrrrr.
And the Leo? I fought for two of them in place of two serras that developed faults cos there was no equivalent replacement.
Hmm, if you ask me, the best ROM that just works is EnergyROM (the most current one is Phoenix 2). From my experience, EnergyROM is very fast, very stable, and tends to be streamlined. In my opinion, this is probably the best ROM for simplicity.
Mind you, I'm not knocking Tael ROM. I tried the version with Sense 2.5 recently and I'm in love. It is shockingly fast and stable; much more so than any other ROMs with Sense 2.5 that I tried.
Simple ROM
If i were you id use Tael's rom... i used Energy ROM for about 7-8 months because it was eye candy and had a lot of apps i needed... its the best looking and most loaded ROM there is in this forum... but i made the switch because the battery didn last very long and i started gettin a lot of bugs after like a month of use... don know how it happened... Energy ROM is more for personal use and for showing off... (Dont get me wrong... i appreciate all the work NRGZ does and all the time he puts into his wonderful ROM)
I switched to Tael's ROM about like a month ago and it is the most stable ROM there is... during this whole month i didn have one problem with it. the ROM has only the most basic and useful applications... It also gives me a battery life of about 3 days on normal texting, bluetooth for like 5-6 hrs a day, phone usage of about 2 hrs of talk everyday and 3G on at all times! if i probably turn of the 3G, auto updates of some program, and stop using bluetooth... i would get atleast 4 days out of it! If u want a reliable ROM with almost all the functions of the phone, Tael's ROM is the best!
OK, so what about the best simple ROM for tilt, or both tilt and fuze?
I just picked up a Tilt and Fuze and would greatly appreciate advice as which best "simple" (=stable, easy install) ROM would be for each, please? And ideally, if there is a ROM which would cover both? (I'm on t-mo)
many thanks
Tilt, unlocked to T-mo
Fuze, unlocked to T-mo

Er, EnergyROM is the most loaded ROM? I think you're mistaken. That would probably be Chrome ROM (which even the author calls 'the Cadillac' of ROMs).
Your claims about battery life confuses me even more. I put my Fuze (with EnergyROM at the time) through a stress test and it lasted roughly 6-8 hours with constant Youtube, video playback, and 3G radio. I have not done the same for Tael ROM, but judging from usage, it would lastly roughly the same amount.
I'm not saying you were lying about your experience regarding EnergyROM, but I just wanted to put in that ER is definitely not as bad as you described.
i'm liking taels rom right now, it seems to be faster than the energy rom as i'm getting less hang ups while scrolling etc. battery lif is about two days with tael and about the same with energy, sending/receiving 300 txts a day and maybe a couple of phone calls...
I'm torn on this thread ...
... part of me feels it should remain open to allow the OP to obtain the information required to make an informed decision for his faculty users.
... and part of me feels it should be closed as these types of thread end up with posts full of emotionally charged opinions about chefs and their roms.
@cjwhite:
If the thread remains on topic and devoid of emotionally charged opnions, I'll leave it open. Once you have obtained all of the information required, please issue a request to have this thread closed.
I'd recommend that you stay away from any roms using the new office 2010. It's beta, and expires in 5-6 months. Since the phones aren't going to be updated frequently (hopefully never, I'm sure), you don't want any part of time-bombs. You might consider just flashing a stock HTC rom.

I agree. Just grab this ROM: http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=140&cat=2&dl_id=501 and you won't regret - it's bug-free, stable, fast enough.
Alternately, you can try shep's ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497699, but not the new version, because it's buggy. I recommend the "old" ROM (10. august), I used it for a month without problems, then I reverted to HTC latest primarily because I don't like 6.5 Start Menu.

I'm a Chrome ROM lover, they are as loaded as NRGZ ROM.
Performance they both have their pros and cons.
For the ROM your looking i would suggest nothing but Timolol's ROM.
They are so fast and So basic.
As basic as stock with no extra apps.
They don't have a manila version hece only the simple titanium to use.
They are on a old build which is very stable.
Though i would never use such a bland ROm but for the people for whom you are going to Flash the ROM this is the Best ROM.
Give it a try.
It is really Light !
Timolol's ROM
Even the chef calls it "Stock like ROM"
Hi everyone.
There was a worrying moment where I thought we were going all emotional!
Mind you its the varied opinions that make this place so interesting.
I'm really grateful to all of you for your effort in replying.
I think the bottom line is I need a ROM for "someone who has never been on XDA-Dev".
I'm going to try Tael's latest ROM as I've personally found it solid enough in the past, and the feeling I'm getting from you is that it is pretty well liked.
I do however like the idea of a stock ROM. What would they be missing out on by using the stock HTC ROM? Anything a normal person would miss?
Cheers
Chris

Nothing really important. On stock ROM there is an older Manila build, that's maybe the most important thing, also cooked ROMs are often loaded with apps. But, stock HTC ROM has one big advantage over all cooked ROMs - absolutely everything is working, and that's not the case with cooked ROMs - there's always something wrong, missing from ROM etc. For example, on most cooked ROMs (OS 6.5) you will find that video call doesn't work, if it works there are some other bugs with the dialer, such as non-working USSD codes or inability to answer calls (not chef's mistake, just dialers ported from other devices do not work 100%). Then there are some other problems - on one ROM MMS ain't working, on the other battery is pathetic, or the phone is very slow and buggy due to the use of Sense (Manila) 2.5 etc. You get the point - if you choose cooked ROM, there will always be something that isn't working, question is - do you (your workers) need those non-working functions.
Well...... I just flashed TAEL standard ROM."launch browser" button not working on internet tab.
@pilgrim011 - Perhaps your right!

You must give it a try.

Do I have to flash my ROM to get the newest TouchFlo 3D?

Right now I'm running the stock Sprint ROM. All I really want to change (man I'm getting boring in my old age!) is the TouchFlo version. I reallllly want the calendar tab on the main screen.
Do I have to flash my entire ROM to get that or can you just upgrade/install over the old TouchFlo? I search the forums here with a variety of key words but everything I found pointed back to ROMs of some sort.
Thanks for the help guys!

You can probably upgrade to a later version of TF3D, but truth be told... it would me much simpler to flash since there is a slew of things that need to be done to get the extra tabs and such. Besides, flashing to something like the NRG roms will boost your TP's performance... a lot!
Do you have any suggestions?
I actually just gave my Touch Pro to my wife... so while *I* have a huge tolerance after years and years of flashing ROMs and tweaking phones for the hiccups that come with such matters, I don't want to put her in a position of having to trouble shoot her phone without me or it crashing on her.
She's all about juicing up her phone with a new ROM but I don't want it to be horrible experience for her.
I was looking, earlier today, at NFSFAN's rom. It seems to be very well received although it looked like people were having trouble with the push-based syncing (which would be a deal breaker since her phone syncs to Google)

NFS is usually good... I would try that as well as NRG, Mighty, Vevitto, and probably Juicy. Hope that helps...

How to upgrade it? ive installed the Stock ROM on my TP(GSM) from site sunnysoft.com/htc/ and its kinda flawless and very very fast. I dont wanna change the ROM but i could use the calendar tab from sense 2.1 cos i find it very handy.. is there a way to add it to my tf3d ?
I tried to install sense 2.1 from cabs on this ROM but had the problem updating weather so i dropped it, besides that the ROM wasnt working so smoothly anymore.

Stuff for Sense/TF3D tend to write and drop a bunch of files under the Windows directory, which (under most cases) will slow down your device. So, getting it pre-cooked is always better as it is cleaner than the installation.
