this might belong in q&a, but do you have tenfar's cwm yet?

No I don't have root yet.

you don't need root to flash tenfars cwm, you just need an unlocked bootloader.

did you try searching? maybe a search. searches work good.

Also definitely needs to be in the Q&A forum. Basically if the header of the thread ends in a question it doesn't belong in this forum.
Such as "Root in 4.5.91 stock?"
Hell, you could probably even ask it in the General forum as people would be more warm and fuzzy there as well. I realize I'm propagating this thread to the top of the list in the forum, but these questions really irk me. I've said this before, but it'd be sweet if there was some way to automagicaly move threads that end in a question to the Q&A forum.

Check the dev forums. The preinstall method will get you root then there is a tether thread that tells you what file to edit to get the mobile hotspot working.

I had unlocked my bootloader previously and had kens safe 4.5.91 upgrade. Then sbf back to 1.83 so I could get the official upgrade. I did the ota update and then used the preinstall method to root and sqlite to enable tethering. Everything is working perfect!!! Still have to try my webtop stuff but loving the phone and new stuff alot! Battery has been great so far..

(Q) 1.8.3 cwm flashable zip

Can someone point me to a 1.8.3 zip that I can flash using tenfar's new recovery? Just to have when it's official upgrade time.

Try this ------->
4.1.83
I think it would be better to just use an SBF to downgrade. Less bugs that way.

Gee, thanks man. That was great. You, sir, are a tool. This is the Q&A forum. No harm in my post here. It would be one thing if it were the dev forum or something but there's no need to be a douche in here.

Probably right. Just wondered if there was a way with out hooking up to the laptop.

If I remember correct, the 1.83 sbf does not wipes the data from the device, so flashing it wont be enough, and flashing the 1.57 or lower is needed.
But there is a good chance I'm wrong...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15218352 has a full 1.8.3 sbf so no need to use an older one

[Q] root 1.70.605.0

Has anyone found a way to root a thunderbolt with version 1.70.605.0?
I believe the manual method still works on that. Haven't seen anything different.

I'm in the middle of rooting mine after just now taking the OTA. If the downgrade flash takes, I'm all good.
*EDIT* Downgrade took, next is copying the eng bootloader
works like a charm
Lol what's the manual method? I'm new to all this stuff.

Without the unlocked bootloader all you get it temp root. So, unless you want to do an ADB temp root on your device while running pre-release firmware, you're kinda outta luck on that front. Do you have an issue with unlocking the bootloader we should be aware of?

You were supposed to flash through the system recovery app's recovery, but anyways back to your question. If you follow directions on how to do things im sure you'll be fine off, as of now the only way to hardbrick is to sbf back when you have the ota installed,

Are you sure that your old atrix is hardbricked? Sounds like it would be more of a softbrick unless your old atrix had Gingerbread. Eitherway, it sounds fixable.

I think you can run the bootloader from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216143
Flash it in RSDlite. It will fail, but don't panic. Pull the battery, and run the moto-fastboot command lines to verify that you've been unlocked. You can then root either via the photon-torpedo method, or AIO root method.
Good luck, and remember to charge your phone all the way!
Best,
K

No, there is not yet a fully functional unlocker. There's one that mostly works but it breaks 4G.
You can root it just fine, though, without unlocking it.

Yeah, you can root without unlocking. There are a few ways..I personally like the one click and photon torpedo methods.

Yeah if you want custom roms, you'll need to unlock the bootloader. It's a really easy process
1) Get RSDlite
2) Get the unlocked bootloader SBF file and flash it
3) Run the cmd lines to check to see if you're unlocked
4) Root and install CWM
5) Flash away!

Please read again. The unlocker is what breaks 4G, not root.

If you were to look in the developers section (where the roms are posted), you would find what you're looking for. Try investing a few seconds of your own time before asking someone else to do it for you.
One. why would i ask question in development section if this is q and a. Second i did look and i couldnt find anything [email protected]

Who told you to post in the developnent section? You're the one who can't read since you must be in the 2nd grade with that kind of reply. The titles of many of the threads in the developers section even states if you have to be locked or not so the fact that you even post this to begin with is proof you haven't even looked.

what i dont understand beartrap is why you bothered posting at all you add nothing to the community by being rude.
to answer the op question you can flash skinny4g rom and yays deodex update rom both are based off 198_7 so you will need to upgrade to that, root, install bootstrap, then flash these are based off stock so no need too unlock boot loader. for a more custom experience or if your a speed freak try one of jokers roms with oc kernal these you have to unlock for, you do lose 4g but your device will gain a ton of power.
