My gps.conf is now like in the topic above but stil takes too long to get a lock.

Slow GPS lock on SGS2?

Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone is experiencing a really slow GPS lock on their S2? Mine is rooted using the superoneclick method. My overall signal is really strong, and I'm always in "H" for me data connection. The only issue I'm having is that GPS takes for ever to lock in the satelites.
I'm on Fido carrier. Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a way to manually update the satelite positions?
Thanks for any help on this!

I have a very slow GPS lock on my Galaxy S2 unlocked on Fido. Will try the solution posted and report back right after.
---------- Post added at 02:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:32 PM ----------
Followed instructions on post "[Trick] Speed Up Satelite Fix for GPS on Android" linked to by tommo123 with mixed results.
At first it took 10 seconds for 4/4 fix/sats, then second test slowed to over a minute for 3/4 fix/sats, now I've been waiting 5 minutes with 0/2 fix/sats still going with no lock.
Anyone have any other ideas for fix? I'm using GPS status to test. As well as trying Google Maps to test within an app.
what have you got in your gps.conf file?
This is precisely what I have in my gps.conf file. I put it in /root/etc on my Galaxy S2.

looks fine at a glance. you using data as well?
one thing i will say is that the link above helped me out to improve gps lock but it wasn't great. today, i flashed a diff rom, re did it and it was far better. possibly rom related as well?
although from what i remember, the rom doesn't change anything to do with gps
I have the latest version of the Cognition rom. Maybe I'll try flashing to stock rom, then try replacing the gps.conf file again to see if that works.
I also flashed the modem file using Odin with a recommended new modem firmware. Does the modem effect the GPS?

As far as i know...no!

Enable wifi and activate the option that makes your phone use wifi to detect its location. I always get a lock in under 10 seconds.
Enabling WiFi won't help me get a lock when there are no WiFi networks around. Even with assisted GPS I can't get a lock half of the time.
I'm seriously considering getting a replacement phone and sending this one to Samsung under warranty.
Anyone have a link to the USB jig for sale within Canada?

[Q] GPS fix I9100G

My I9100G doesnt fix GPS. I tried waiting for more than 20 mins. Any solution?
Try FasterFix from the Market, or have a look at this thread.
FasterFix didnt work for me
Thanks for the thread
For the I9100G (and probably for the I9100 as well) the only settings that exist in the gps.conf files are:
NTP_SERVER
XTRA_SERVER_1
XTRA_SERVER_2
XTRA_SERVER_3
SUPL_HOST
SUPL_PORT
The default values are mostly correct, except for NTP_SERVER which seem to always be set to north america, no matter from which region of the world you're in. A lot of these "fixes" just modify the NTP_SERVER to the correct region you're in.

[Q] GPS issues PRE-ICS, POST-ICS no change

In early February 2013, I discovered that my GPS tracking wasn't working at all. I could get the GPS position updated, but still be way off on location, with NAV constantly "Looking for GPS". I reloaded the previous build (prolly pre-ICS), over and over, with wipes, formats etc. But GPS tracking would still never work. I tried 3rd party by some cool guy who built his own NTP server agent, proxy, whathaveyou. I spent $$$ buying two GPS checker and status programs, but so far nothing - not a single GPS satellite in the ceiling. I have searched this forum and other Tbolt/GPS issues everywhere until everything was blurring.
At the time, my Thunderbolt was no longer rooted (previously rooted using Revolutionary, but returned to stock successfully), running OTA OS, cheerfully downloaded from Verizon. I did notice one odd thing. The GPS.CONF file had been changed, modified or something enough to change its update date to Feb 8, 2013. I could read-only the GPS.conf file and it showed
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org or similar and web research told me I should change it.
Another suggestion solutions in case of DNS name-resolution issues. All to no avail. The previous method of rooting my Thunderbolt left me in some sort of in-between stasis, and I couldn't edit or root.
Then comes blessed Santod's Thunderbolt-ICS debloat, and viola - I have root and can modify the cursed GPS.CONF file to finally fix the damnable GPS issue.
Didn't work, though the de-bloated, deodexed ICS is wonderful. Currently, my GPS.CONF looks like after hours of research on the web:
NTP_SERVER=0.us.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.us.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.us.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=3.us.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=0.north-america.pool.ntp.org

However, GPS Status or GPS Plus can still find NO GPS satellites in the heavens. Is it time for the Thunderbolt to take a trip to an HTC repair facility? ...........or buy a new phone?
Have you checked the gold contacts on the back of the phone to see if they make contact with the battery door? If they are making good contact and are clean you should have no problem but it kind of sounds like your GPS may be broken at a hardware level. If going totally stock doesn't fix it then it is probably a hardware issue.

Same problem here... I bought a brand new back cover... no luck... mine worked great till about a week ago..

Is there a log I can look at if I turn the verbose logging up ?
Must be hardware then.

Hi,
If you're willing to try a new rom, this one has a good gps. Usually locks for me in about 30 sec, and often faster.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44303051#poststop
Note, if the gps has been off for a while (say one day?), the first time it is used again, it needs internet connection (for AGPS to pull in satellite info) to work well. If there is no internet connection, it will take a while to fix.
Subsequently, gps works fine even without network.

Hi. The gps.conf has nothing special inside it. I think the rom itself must have some different gps. Perhaps @ydaud, the rom author, can comment about that.
In any case, I am reproducing the config file for you below:
SUPL_PORT=7275
SUPL_HOST=supl.sonyericsson.com
NTP_SERVER=[my local ntp pool]

Let me guess... your xperia V sees satellites with numbers around the 70s...
That's because xperia V has GLONASS support, xperia U only has GPS.
as an overlook my supl was set to google so i am going to set it to sony and see if it any quicker

It's still a mystery to me why sometimes it cannot lock. Have you tried to reboot the phone after changing the supl settings? I've found that this helps, but I have no explanation why.

GPS - I do not lock? ######### SOLVED #########

SEE POST #4 FOR MY FIX
Got Phone a few days ago and have been trying a few ROMs. Across the board with all ROMs I seem to have GPS issue. I use GPS Status and Toolbox to see when my GPS has found enough satellites to acquire my location...then I can run Google Maps/Navigation.
Is there a fix for this? I'll take any information I can get.
Thanks
Code:
https://mega.nz/#!3AAEBZID!_ZROftSmAde-km2mbFJljOiTGYTS_wg9jQDx0MEAOg0
Try it.
I wrote permissions to rw-r--r--
Didn't work
Tried dailing *#*#46360000#*#* and then just disable/re-emable background resource control option.
I tried that with reboots between every step?
No luck?. The GPS works just once then not again. On every ROM I've tried.
Edit: flashed MODEM 419D. Will test. 1st test good a couple miles away, but first run always is good after a flash. Will update if this modem fixes problem for good.
Edit ² - FIXED (so I thought) Flashing modem fixed GPS (& BT headset) issue. Multiple Reboots and tests confirmed.
Modem(s) found here: (under developer)
https://yadi.sk/d/5v2p3F7o3GJBxn
Edit ³ - by 4:30pm GPS stopped working. Re-Flashed modem and still no GPS lock again.
First, Thanks to Faith27, as that was a close solution to my problem. Changing my GPS.conf file was a good solution to my issue. However, GPS locking can be narrowed down to your physical location. My GPS locking is pretty quick now. I changed my GPS.conf file according to THIS article with preconfigured GPS.conf downloadable files and I am finally happy with my Le Max 2 as GPS is a necessity.
Nice, I 'll try on mine. Mine doesn't found any location at all, just maybe the wifi on the streets. But I'm too sad to give up.
