bootloader cracked or not? unlock phone possible? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I saw the news (on july) that the bootloader was cracked but then the posts about it's a lie and then the custom kernels appear and I don't know if the bootloader is unlocked or not.
My question is if there will be a way to free unlock the phone (sim unlock) shortly or better go paying an unlock code.
Thank you.

The custom kernels are here because some clever devs figured out how to bypass the bootloader to load unsigned kernels.
Apparently, Zdzihu is working with a mystery dev about unlocking the bootloader, and apparently, they have done it. Nothing has been released to us about it yet however.
Regarding your question, until the bootloader is unlocked, you will need to pay an unlocking service to sim unlock your phone. If the bootloader is unlocked, you might still need to pay an unlocking service.

Yum, no matter the bootloader is unlocked, the SIM unclocking is different and not relate to bootloader.

Actually, If you remember back to the flame war between Max and the_laser, much of the hype was about SIM unlock, as unlocking the bootloader would give us direct access to where SIM lock information is stored. I believe this is one of the reasons that SE will not unlock the bootloader, as they are in agreement with various carriers to keep it locked. The carriers obviously don't want people ditching them whenever they feel like it.
Edit:
I might have misunderstood your post. Sorry about that. But the bootloader is directly related to the SIM lock, on this phone at least, hence why I stated "If the bootloader is unlocked, you might still need to pay an unlocking service."

[Q] Unlocking Question

Currently my wife's phone is unlocked. I am a noob and I am just getting into the flash/root android community so I upgraded her stock phone to JI6 on Eclair. As a result, her unlocking codes are not easily accessible anymore but the phone is unlocked. I'm wondering if I need to risk going through the steps in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822008&page=11 (under Helroz) to find the unlock codes for the phone or I can just continue flash in Roms and kernels on her phone.
I guess the real question is: how important is it to have the unlocking codes if your phone is already unlocked and under what circumstances would the phone relock itself?
Thank you in advance for all replies.
Unlocked as in.... you can change out the sd card? Otherwise, if you have already flashed a differnet ROM, kernel, or modem or whatever, I don't think it would be different if you did it again.
But I would assume once you're unlocked...well you're unlocked, right?
Lol I am unlocked...I'm using the t mobile phone on the wind network I
n toronto so I can say with certainty that I'm unlocked. The reason why I'm asking is because we have two viberants (one that I have the unlock code and one that I don't ). being the noob that I am, I retired to manualy root my phone (the one I have the unlock code) using the update.zip file found in the sticky noob guideline.that one somehow re-locked my phone but I had the unlock codes so out was no problem. That's why I'm paranoid now about the phone relocking itself and I won't have the unlock codes.
Your right about it not asking for the unlock codes after rom and kernel updates.I'm hoping the situation where I re-locked the phone is a special, rare, and unique case. I'm going for some confirmation on this.

[Q][SK17i]Any chance to flash CFW with locked Bootloader?

Hy!
I have an easy question. Some people have Branded SK17i, which says: Bootloader Unlock allowed: NO...
So, any chance to flash this without unlock Bootloader? I thinking in a method like Motorola phones (Defy, etc).
Any chance to work this?
Thanks a lot!
I think i fell upon someone who had the same issue. I think you have to debrand it first, then you will be able to unlock the bootloader using the Test Point method. Not entirely sure though.
What you can do is go through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285285
I am quite certain that there was a solution in that thread somewhere.
No way. In service menu i got: "Bootloader unlock allowed: No". I debranded it with Wotan (2.3.4 UK ROM), but i can't unlock bootloader.
I think it's not a problem, because a lot of Motorola has locked bootloader, and they have CFW.
We can root it, with zergRush, we only need a xRecovery or CWM Recovery port, and we got Highway to Hell
Interest thing: after S1tool Method in the i saw "r9xxx", not "R9xxx". In X10 Mini/Mini Pro it means the unlocked bootloader. So what?
If you checked the thread thoroughly you would have got your answer.

Hope this clears the waters for you
Yep, I know this way, but I want to make an method, which don't need unlocked bootloader, like Motorola Phones.
Umm.... What? Motorola phones are hated because of their locked bootloader, resorting to a software solution to bypass the bootloader lock in order to get it to "fastboot" can only resort to problems.
Plus, ROMs in Motorola phones work way differently, you have to restore a cwm backup and then install the rom blah blah blah.
So its not easier in any way.
guys, here is the solution to unlock bootloader via testpoint method.
clear and easy to follow.

this will help a lot of people if you succeed...
i do not understand why only some phones of the same model have bootloader unlock allowed:no
good luck

eh ****..
how did i get here?

stupid question

I have the Mini Pro and I just looked in the service menu and found "Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No" . Now I haven't unlocked it myself, I have only flashed the global official software. Does this mean my phone will accept custom kernels or will it brick if I try?
Thanks
First of all there isnt such thing as a stupid question. Its only easier to answer. You cannot access fastboot without unlocking the bootloader, and you cant install a custom kernel without fastboot. You need to unlock it.
thanks for your reply.
OK so fastboot is needed to flash custom kernel. got that. But even though it says "Bootloader Unlock Enabled:No" I am still able to unlock it and enable fastboot correct?
Thanks
Yes, you have to use a 3rd party app. Cant remember the name, do some research. Its somewhere in the Development for our devices.
In this page http://androidflip.com/unlock-xperia-phones-bootloader-without-losing-drm-data-track-id-working/
says: If you see Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No that means bootloaders are already unlocked
What? No dude... When it says NO it means the bootloader is carrier locked...

This is what made me ask the question. But after looking on here http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
it says "2.In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked."
which made me suspect that I may not be able to unlock it whatsoever
have you bought your phone through carrier? its on contract? if yes, then sorry you cant unlock its bootloader
YES YOU CAN! But you have to pay... Or i think its for free now. Stop talking without doing some basic research first.

There. You can unlock your device by paying. THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISMENT IT IS SIMPLY TO STOP THESE DAMN POSTS REGARDING BOOTLOADER UNLOCKING.

Can't unlock my rooted Atrix

I successfully rooted my Atrix but since my volume up button does not work I cannot unlock it. Is there another way to unlock this phone without paying for unlock codes? I have read where at&t will give out the codes for free. Will that affect my account with them? Sorry if these questions are common knowledge but I am a newbie at this and anxious to check out some other roms.

I think you are confusing unlocking the boot loader (to install other ROMS) with unlocking so you can use other carriers besides ATT. You can buy unlock codes on ebay for 99 cents. This will enable you to use any carriers SIM card. That is where I purchased mine.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. I am confusing the two. What need and want to do is to unlock the phone so that I can unlock the bootloader and experiment with various roms. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Do you need to unlock phones SIM in order to unlock the bootloader or root the phone?

I just got a new Tmobile LG V20 H918TN and haven't unlocked the sim yet.
Can I proceed with unlocking the bootloader and rooting the phone before unlocking the sim or does that need to be done first?
SIM unlock has nothing to do with bootloader unlock or root. You can do that without SIM unlocking.

Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly. I figured that was the case, but better to be safe than sorry. In the past, when I rooted my phones, they were always old enough that the sim was already unlocked. This phone is so new that I can't unlock the sim without paying for it. I only need to wait about a month to be able to do that, but I wanted to unlock the bootloader and root my phone right away. I appreciate all the effort and work that this website provides. Cheers!
