[Q] ICS and Google contacts photo resolution? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if the release of ICS and its high resolution contact photos would be limited to the phone or would the higher resolution photos sync to Google's servers and replace the current low quality ones we are limited to?
I hope it does since I prefer my contacts including photos completely synced for phone changes or full wipes.
Since I doubt anyone knows for sure, I am looking for opinions.

Low Resolution contact photos from Facebook app

Hey guys,I am thinking of taking a leap of faith and I'm going to flash CM7 on my phone, but I have a minor issue here.
I use to connect my contacts to Facebook to get their photos when I call them etc.On TouchWiz roms I use the SNS Facebook account to do it and,on my previous HTC devices,I used to use Facebook for HTC Sense. Both do the job well and the photos that appear on my phone's contacts are ok resolution-wise.However,when I try to do the same thing with the Facebook app, resulting photos are low res and terribly pixelated.I assume that I don't have any alternatives for CM,so I'm asking you,can I do anything about it?Not that my decision is going to be based on this that much, but it would be nice to have everything the way I want it.

Need an app to sync high res contact photos from local storage

I am running a beta build of ICS on my Samsung Galaxy S, and flash it every few weeks as and when better builds come out. Like most of you might know, ICS supports high resolution contact photos but Google contacts (online) doesn’t. Therefore every time I flash, I lose all my locally stored high res contact photos.
Is there an app that allows me to sync contact photos from my hard disk or a folder on the phone ? I know there are few apps that allow facebook photo synching, but I’m not big fan of facebook , and I have many contacts who do not have facebook accounts or not in my friend circles. EDIT: same goes for Google+ and whatever popular social media networks out there. So I prefer to do it from a local storage. Any one know of something like that ?
maybe with sugarsync

[Q] Contacts Low Image Quality

Does anyone else have issues with low image quality when they open a contact's info? I have my contacts synced in google, and the images looked really low quality when I open up the contact. I have synced some contacts with twitter, and the image quality is still poor. I tried searching for this but nothing came up
Haxsync will pull down high quality profile pictures from your contacts Facebook...unfortunately it seems that, unlike the E4GT, you have to go in there and manually set that picture for each contact after syncing.
Sent while hanging with that really hoopy frood Ford Prefect.
Is there a way to get better quality photos not using Facebook synced photos? Even the photos from google (gtalk) are bad quality
I just sync contacts once turn off auto sync than manually added pictures to my contacts. I don't use twitter or Facebook though so don't know if it will work for those apps.

This has been a continued thing with HTC. You'd think they would've fixed it, or allowed you to choose how the picture is displayed.
I've been trying haxsync and it downloads the higher res photos fine, and I can manually set them as the preferred photo for a contact, but after a while it reverts back to the low res version. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hasn't happened to me yet, that I've noticed...but I'll keep an eye out.
It's an ICS thing, the pics are synced with Google and stored there so they downres them. IIRC you can just replace them with higher res images and it should stick.

Actually, it's been happening for much longer. And when you manually set up the picture in your Google contacts list, it still comes out low resolution. You could use a 1080p image, and it will still come out like @$$.
I've got an email into HTC. Maybe they have something to say about it. I'll post what I get back... in 30 days.
Google stores contact pictures in a more compressed, low resolution form. I assume that they do this to keep the necessary storage space down. If they took full quality pictures for everyone and stored all of them, imagine the space that would take. Hopefully there's a better way to do it in the future.

Well, even storing the picture on the phone locally, it still does the same thing. I think it's not just Google. Sense does the same thing.
I have the same issue. On my OG Evo and Evo 3D, I created duplicate contacts with nice high res pics of the people I talk to most and set them to Phone. I then exported the Phone contacts to SD card. Once I linked them to my google contacts the pics would remain in hi-res.
This does not work with the LTEvo. I even went through and manually created new Phone contacts with hi-re pics for several of my contacts, linked them to my Google contacts and they are still blurry.
I may delete my contacts, re-sync with google and start all over and see if that helps. There has to be a better way to do this.
What's the point of a 720P 4.7" display if the contact pics look like crap?
It's a known google problem like a few people have said, not sense. I've used programs like HD contacts or HD contact photos in order to sync and save contact photos. Once you're photo syncs with google, you'll get your low res photos.

[Q] Contact pic resolution JB/ICS - conflict: 2 devices, 1 Google account

Hello together,
I've got a smartphone running Jelly Bean. As I like the gmail contact photos very much, I was happy that one new feature of Jelly Bean is the fact that the contact photos are synced with Google servers in hi-res (720x720). I spent a good deal of time replacing the awful downsized pictures with new hi-res pictures. They sync in 720px, everything fine, so far.
Where my problem begins: Within the next days I expect the arrival of my new tablet. It's a low budget one (Arnova 10b G3) which runs Ice Cream Sandwich and which maybe won't ever get a Jelly Bean firmware.
I'm in a conflict now: On the one hand, I'd like to use the tablet with my Google account and not create a dummy account or something like that. This would spoil much of the usability of the account. On the other hand, I don't want to destroy my hi-res contact pics because one Google sync under ICS would downsize them forever and I guess they would again sync downsized to my Jelly Bean phone.
Do you have any ideas what would solve that?
Is there maybe a hack that prevents Google from syncing the contact pictures? In this case, I could use the Google account on the ICS tablet just without contact pics. The downsized pics are rubbish anyways if one's display has a proper resolution.
Or, can one prevent Google from syncing the contacts after setting up the account? I know that the contact sync can be unchecked in the settings but as far as I know, that doesn't prevent the initial sync.
I appreciate your suggestions!!
Well, no one answered.
Just for your interest, if someone has the same problem: Apparently I solved it by logging in on the ICS device with my Google account. I let the sync doing its job once and then, immediately when contact sync was done, I unchecked "sync contacts". So, this way, I have my Google account with the contacts on the ICS device. The only drawback is that when I wanna change a contact, I have to do this on the JB device or on the PC. But that's acceptable.
Afterwards, I carried out a forced contact sync on the JB device, just to check if the pics were still okay, and they were.
EDIT: One day later, I noticed that on the JB device, most contact pics were eventually downsized. Some were not - heaven knows why. All contacts are stored on the Gmail account, not G+, Facebook or any other stuff which could have explained the difference...
Shame on you, Google, for not having fixed the pic size issue for all OS versions!

[Q] High resolution contact images after flashing new room

hi everyone,
like in the title, does anybody knows how to keep high resolution contacts images from google account after flashing a new room?
I flashed a new room recently and after syncing my contacts with my google account all the images appeared to be very poor quality.
I looked for the solution but didn't find the right answer (I don't want to synchronize with/throw Facebook).
I know that I can go to every contact separately and after a few second it will download bigger picture, but I have 800 contact and it will last very long.
Even though I do it the images are not as good as they were before
thanks in advanced
