3M adhesive for screen replacement??? - HTC EVO 3D

Is there some local place that I can buy the 3M adhesive to do a screen replacement? Or does anyone know if there is a suitable replacement for it? I know tons of places to get it online, but I already have the phone apart and can't really wait for snail mail. Thanks guys!

When you glue it back make sure you do a good job at it other wise the glass will creak and be raised up in spots.

I would recommend purchasing a full front assembly. (Housing, LCD, and digitizer) you can get it for around $100.00 on eBay.
It's definitely more expensive than just a digitizer but it's super easy to install. You don't wanna mess up your LCD, and it will leave you with a demo front assembly to try to replace just the digitizer on in case you need it in the future.

I had the same question. What did you end up using? I was looking at some 3M sticky tape that I found at the local auto parts store.

Gorilla glass and lcd are a glued single unit, i believe you have purchased the right part and it does have the gorilla glass attached.
You are safe
Yup. You are good to go. The glass comes with the LCD. I wont be too sure that its gorilla glass though. It scratches very easily.
Then again the original gorilla glass wasnt too shatter proof anyway.
I see a lot of posts regarding the unbreakable glass on anything that has the gorilla glass. I think the proper term is SCRATCH resistant, not unbreakable?
I think Corning needs to rework it so if you drop it on a corner, it won't shatter
I took the screen protector off of mine over 2 months ago and even as much as it is in and out of the pouch, in the car unprotected, not one scratch. The plastic around it? Now that is another matter
Yup all the screens I have purchased had the gorilla glass. You cannot buy it and if you could I do not see how you would install it.
I have been running withour screen protection and see no need to put anything on the glass.
I did have a screen protector cor months. I do not think it is needed.

Two Dell Streaks fell at the same time..
Actually guys,
My dad has a dell streak too but that one is with TPU soft case. Both of them fell from the same height. But mine as it was bare bodied, and might have fell on the sweet spot which broke the glass. The other one is scratchless. so now i understand the necessity of the rubber case, also it tends to slip without it from your hands which i have noticed it a couple of times. So lesson learned.. never get off a bigger phone from its layer (case).. Glad it is not an expensive loss though..
Thanks for all your inputs guys..

Buy a Otterbox Commuter or Defender case, the screen protector is crap, but the case itself is very good, should save you the price of buying a new screen. Does make the device quite big, but then its not a small phone.

Buffing out scratches?

Hey all,
I recently got an annoying scratch on the screen and was wondering if there was any good product for buffing it out. It might be a little too deep since I can feel it with my fingernail, but I would like to avoid replacing the digitizer touch screen. I saw some posts about various products, but for other phones.
Thanks
I would just be careful of messing up the digitizer. Buffing it might ruin its sensitivity.
Some people say that a good quality screen protector can help hide small scratches.I think one that gets mentioned a lot is called real look.

Realook is one of the best, but can only be used on perfect screens. Otherwise it will bubble really badly. For a screen that's already scratched, you need to go with a wet apply cover like zagg, or a cheaper knock off of zagg.

I wrote a writeup a few months back about buffing out scratches on the Rezound because I scratched my first one. link. I was able to successfully buff the scratches out with a product called "3M Trizact Perfect-It III Machine Glaze" (or just 3M P/N 06070).
While it does work well to remove the scratches, its expensive, and also I just don't recommend it for an important reason: The Rezound's glass has a texture to it. You don't notice it when looking straight at it, but if you let the light reflect off it you'll see that the surface of the glass is very slightly bumpy. If you attempt to buff out a scratch, you'll be left with a noticeable flat area on the screen where you polished the scratch out.
Also, the polishing compound I used costs $60 for a quart size bottle, and you only need like less than a cap-full to do the job. An alternative option is to buy a brand new glass and digitizer for less than $50...
Replacement glass/digitizer
I find sandpaper to buff out my scratches very nicely. Phone becomes smooth as a baby's bottom.

[Q] ebay lens glass gorilla?

I have a cracked galaxy s3 screen that I want to replace by myself. Searching on ebay, I found several lens glass for sell under $20. Are these gorilla glass 2 or just standard glass material?
I only checked youtube videos and looks fairly straightforward. Any word of advice from people who had repaired their cracked screen by themselves?
There are a couple of good tutorials here on xda, search for those before you start.

Gorilla glass for $20? I don't think so, it will just be glass. Some are actually plastic.
you can replace just the glass (tutorial with video in general thread) but it is fiddly and needs a bit of skill

If you want to repair your broken glass, you have to replace the whole lcd assembly cause the glass cannot be separated from the lcd. It's impossible to get a Gorilla Glass 2 under $20. There are always crappy goods on ebay.

This is false, it has been done and as slappy said there are even videos of it being done successfully right here on XDA.
There is already a thread n video tutorial to replace glass. Just have a look in general section

Replaced just the glass, saved the digi/lcd (With video)
Thanks for the replies. That was the exact video I saw on youtube, making me want to search on ebay for lens glass. Actually I think it is the only video fixing the lens instead of replacing the whole lens + digitizer.
What I want to hear from people who had replaced their lens, how is the durability of the new cover glass? How is the thickness? I dont want to replace it only to have it break/scratch even easier than the original gorilla glass 2.
Thanks

[Q] Screen Repair Adhesive?

As the title states, I am going to replace the glass digitizer on my Rezound. I have ordered the 3M 2mm adhesive to use in order to stick the screen back on. I was wondering if I could maybe use epoxy? Or maybe silicon?
Any input would be greatly thanked and appreciated!
The 3m adhesive is not going to do a great job. You will quickly have problems with the screen lifting. The adhesive HTC uses it about literally 1000000x stronger. I tried many adhesive strips and tapes that where meant for digitizers, I had lift problems with every single one.
Epoxy is your best bet, I hope you can get on right the first time though. Its definitely a PITA. I ended up giving up after a while and sold it for parts, and just bought a new one.

[Q] Glass replacement is Plastic

Hello,
A while ago I dropped my S3 from about 12 inches, it landed on the corner and cracked the 'Gorilla Glass' from Top Right to Bottom Left.
It worked fine and you could not see it when the screen was on.
Replaced screens and stuff on Iphones and other mobiles so thought I would get a screen to replace it.
The said 'Genuine Samsung' item that came appears to be plastic??
It's flexible, I am sure gorilla glass is not flexible.
Anyone used these??
My phones get abuse so to be honest if a screen protector and this NON-glass (assuming it is) replacement works and won't shatter, I may use it.
OR should it be sent back to original seller with 'REFUND pleases NOT a genuine part'
How much you paid for them? However if you paid with paypal you can have full refund
Pretty sure Gorilla glass is supposed to be flexible.

Did you buy just the outer replacement screen or a complete assembly including the OLED screen?
If you paid £20 on ebay then it obviously won't be the original component, although supplying a plastic copy instead of glass is taking it too far.
The outer screens are all gorilla glass and, I'm told, trying to peel the old display screen off the glass and sticking it to a new one is nearly impossible - hence you would normally pay for both (£150?) at a reputable supplier.
Having said that, I doubt the plastic one will break if you dropped it again!

Nice! I did not realise that..
This was what bothered me. It feels solid and the same as original. Just could not believe it had flex in it.
Obviously it can..

Yeah! I know what's involved.. Just replaced an Asus Tranformer 300T digitiser. All though they are a little easier.
Just got my new Spudger also..
I HIGHLY recomend these. iSesamo - search for iero.co.uk website - £2 cheaper than amazon
They are great... Strong, Knife edged, and flexible. With a lovely soft plstic grip.
Will let you know how I get on...
