Stock recovery ph98img.zip? - HTC Rezound

Anybody know how to take the stock recovery img and make a ph98img.zip file? Might be nice to people don't need fastboot to install the image. Not even sure it can be done that way though.

yes you can do this, just put the stock recovery.img in the PH98IMG.zip file in place of one that has a boot.img..

Xtreme Outcast has this thread with a tool that made my life easier. Unlock/relock. Roms. Mods. Kernels. Recovery images. Not sure whats all required but might prove useful to you.

How would it know to flash a recovery instead of boot.img then? I'm just thinking removing the need for a computer to flash stock recovery could be useful. I've used fastboot thus far to go between recoveries, just thinking I'd like to have another method.

If you have s-off then you should either use rom manager or use fastboot
Most people on this thread use rom manager because its just so much easyer

He's not talking about just the CWR .img file I don't believe. It sounds like he wants a zip of CWR that he can flash via hboot like a radio which would install recovery. I'm not even completely sure that's possible.

It's not. Have to use fastboot. However, if you go to the link site, it has rom manager there as well, which will flash recovery for you...
If that's not good enough, then he's just being overly difficult.
Actually the recovery image was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks everyone

Hmm, actually it is possible (with engr hboot anyway). I just made one in about 2 minutes and tested and it seems to work fine. Flashed CWR from bootloader like a champ.
I'll put it up (if anyone happens to need it for whatever reason) when I get home.
Edit:
Eh, went ahead and uploaded it. Just put on sd, change name, and reboot to hboot like flashing a radio. You should then have ClockworkMod Recovery installed. If anyone feels like trying it, let me know how it goes.
This means one should be able to edit the custom upgrade firmware used in the original tutorial to include this and cut out a few post-rooting steps. It *should* give you CWR immediately after going through the tutorial without requiring RM. I haven't tested that part yet but the reasoning seems sound.
Edit2:
This is ClockworkMod Recovery 3.1.0.2 (latest for mecha at time of posting) btw.

FLash custom kernels or whole rom with costum kernels

Evo3d had same s-on, place your recovery image in your same folder as fastboot and adb and do: fastboot boot recovery.img(assuming you renamed your amon ra to recovery) and flash anything. I think even radios but dont know that one for sure.
Link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239821
1) I don't think belongs in development. 2) You cannot flash radios with S-ON. 3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419587 4) Not really any new or useful information.
I understand there are other way to do this but you can just flash a single zip in the phones recovery this way. then a dev can do roms including a costum kernel and flash as one. Like normal. Not to mention devs make one package. Just seems so much easier to me.

If the devs could do this on the Rezound where you can install everything using one zip they would be doing so.
I suspect the largest reason this hasn't happened is the lack of s-off devices in developers hands to build with.

The drawback is it requires fastboot. that is hard for some people. I use this type of stuff myself, but I make easy tools for people anyway.

There IS a way of installing kernels with a single zip on the Rezound... DSB did that with his kernel for the Rezound on rootzwiki. It basically still is two steps, but simplified into one zip and a script that automatically reboots to the bootloader and installs the boot.img from there.

That is not the way to do it. It uses a hardcoded boot image which is BAD.
Con, I've seen the automated script you made and that's cool. I just wanted to add what we had done with the 3d. But certainly appreciate your work.

I understand that. I prefer using fastboot and the methods you have described. But a hardcoded boot.img is not good for people with custom roms... if a rom needs a customized boot image and you flash dsb's kernel, you might have a bootloop on your hands.
Thread reported, this is ridiculous. How can you not understand not to post in development?

Toolkit for the Rezound. Anyone interested?

So I made a toolkit for 3 HTC phones. You can see them in my signature. Would you guys / girls be interested in using a toolkit for an All-In-One use. If so, please let me know and I can work on it and probably have it up by tonight. Thanks!

Will do!
Just a question though. With flashing kernels, you have to flash it via recovery and then bootloader? For the Amaze / Sensation / Vivd, we can flash it just through the computer. I am trying to get a better idea so I can make the tollkit correct.

Pretty sure it's only bootloader for the kernel or fastboot for just the boot.img. Can't flash them through recovery, I don't think.
I am trying to find the boot.img for the kernels. If I can't find them, then I am done with the toolkit. If I can find them, then I can add it to the toolkit. I only found the flashable zip.

Correct. Modules for the kernel can be flashed in recovery, but the actual boot.img must be flashed in hboot.

Yes, and then in that PHzip file is the boot.img which can also be flashed on its own in fastboot if pulled out of the PHzip file.
Sometimes that is the preferred method since the phones and kernels are not always on the same mainver and if the text file included in the PHzip file has a different mainver than the phone it is being flashed to there will be an error. The error can be fixed by editing the mainver in the text file before flashing it, but flashing in fastboot avoids the error.
Some ICS ROM's brought people's mainver up to 3.x. Original stock was at 1.x and with the OTA stock is now 2.x. I believe most ROMs are on 2.x but there is a good number of people whose phones got updated to the 3.x version.
I can have the modules flash when the phone is on. That is how we flash the modules and can I just flash the boot.img via fastboot instead of the PH98IMG.zip?
Remember, I don't have the phone so I can't test it, so please bare with me lol.
Toolkit would be awesome.

I think so, but some people seem to be uncomfortable using fastboot. But using this tool it seems it won't be as daunting since they won't have to use the cmd prompt on the pc, right? How would it work?

[Q] Continuous bootloop nor my recovery is working at all whatsoever

I have been screwing with my phone for over 4 days straight and I CANNOT figure anything out....Im so frustrated!!! I flashed a ROM and now I am in continuous bootloop mode. My clockwork mod is completely broke down, I can't backup my nand because it is on Amon recovery. but i can't figure out how to reinstall Amon through bootloader....since, when i restart my phone. i only get about 5 seconds to try and do anything before it bootloops.....PLEASE someone help me step by step. I need someone to comment back and stay posted on this thread for me....please I am on my last leg, I just want my phone to be rooted, a good recovery installed and thats all I'm asking for.....But the problem is, I have to do everything through bootloader because of the bootloop.....I want to get clockwork mod off my phone and reinstall Amon recovery.
Run the ruu of your choice and then while in fast boot do:
Fastboot flash recovery nameoffile.img
would you mind posting a link to a RUU for me please?? I am to the point where I don't care what ROM it is. I just wanna be able to get on my phone and get recovery working right. Thank you

flashing a recovery:
Code:

then flash a rom
i honestly can link you to a list of ruus because there not all in one place :/
also once the file is installed onto my PC, I have to extract that file to c:\android where I have fastboot located in correct???

Didn't search much. Go to the Android Development section. You'll find S-ON ROM's, stock rooted ROM's, OTA's, etc... And the reason fastboot isn't working for you is because you install the kernel/fastboot boot.img after installing the ROM. You will also find guides, how-to's, etc...

You flash the ROM with Recovery and fastboot flash boot boot.img through fastboot. Nothing more, nothing less. There's no need to modify the .zip.
What about flash image GUI? Couldn't he use that, while booted, to flash the boot IMG then go to recovery to flash the ROM?
Never used it, personally, but that was my understanding.

Its so much easier to just fastboot the boot.img unless no computer is available.
