CWM - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

does the note not have exact same guts as the skyrocket?
if so can we not use the same cwm - t-mobiles version from rom manager?
just curious, we da g can start making cwm flashables.

If it was that easy I am sure it would of been done already.

it does sound easy right, why do you think it will NOT work.....if u dont mind me asking??

It will not work as the bootloader is different. Someone has already tried and bricked if you look a few pages back in the forum.

thanks for posting Da_G Cain wait

It is my understanding CWM compiled for Gingerbread may not be usable with ICS.
Official ICS update is probably 2 weeks away according to rumors, and CM9 is probably about the same time - it'd suck if all this work Da_G is putting into compiling CWM for GB 2.3.6 would be obsolete in 2 weeks.

Did you even read the article you quoted? First of all, the whole article is talking about he Galaxy S II and not the Galaxy Note. Secondly, this is all related to the international version. I've never seen him provide any insight as to what happens with the updates for the US version of these phones.

Yes, to both of you - I do realize it's for SGS2, not Note and it's for INTL version.
I didnt want to spam like 10 links, hoping people would do their due diligence - there are a bunch of other sources, including official quotes from samsung, which say ICS for Note will be released around the same time as SGS2.
I also don't think US LTE versions are that far behind - Samsung will have the firmware ready for carrier testing around the same time for both HSPA+ and LTE versions and it's only a matter of how long will AT&T take to test and cripple the firmware, by adding loads of bloatware, disabling NFC, etc'. I expect official Samsung LTE firmware to leak after it's available for carriers, not for end users.

except for the tiny fact that the international note is 6 months old

I have yet to see a single reliable news post confirming or even suggesting a time frame for the US versions of the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Note to receive the ICS update. Please link just one such source.

heres the skinny:
if you dont have time to read, comprehend, and understand what you are doing to your phone, you dont need to do anything to it.
if you want to get pissy because you didnt understand the difference between a firmware version and a rom, then fine. this website is not here to 'make your phone cool'

I'm hoping that the dev for UnNamed will incorporate a newer 2.3.6 or 2.3.7 base for their roms soon for further development. Maybe they're waiting for ICS like most other Devs?

The ROM Dev has to recreate the ROM on that base. Currently UnNamed is based off 2.3.4 and the dev will have to redo all his mods he incorporated in the 2.3.4 base into the new 2.3.6 base or other..... which he decides if at all. So basically you are at the mercy of the rom dev.

gtg's policy is just like mine - Unless there is a MAJOR reason to rebase on a leak, we don't do it. Leaks are a major hassle for ROM developers (and kernel devs) unless the leak offers a major feature. UXKG3 (Rogers Gingerbread) for the Infuse was such a ****ty release it actually did make sense to pull stuff from the AT&T leaks, however, completely rebasing onto them caused tons of problems for gtg (broken GPS, broken modems, wonky data, etc.) when he tried to pull in too much. In the end all he did was pull the camera libs (the only significant improvement).
So you'll see UnNamed move to 2.3.6 or 2.3.7 when an official AT&T update comes out based on it, or a MAJOR feature shows up (and even then, it's more likely to just get backported like the camera libs on Infuse.)

Hello, noob here! My OTA update failed so I installed UnNamed v2.1.1 (Based on UCKK6, Android 2.3.6). Everything works fine, but I notice that scroll-bounce effect (the bouncing at the end of scrolling) is replaced by a glow. Anyone knows if this also happens to the official UCKK6 update? I would love to have the scroll-bounce back without going back to stock Android 2.3.4

ICS On Samsung Galaxy S2?

There are a fair few good deals on the S2 now that the Nexus is out with Android ICS, but how good is the ICS port over to the S2? Any bugs or flaws?
I am contemplating getting this phone for my girlfriend who isn't very tech savvy hence ICS would need to work flawlessly on the device .
Ics is not ready yet for this device there only at the alpha stage try again in 4months for a stable one or use the ics theme from the market

Samsung has said "official" ICS firmware for SGS2 will be released "some time in Q1 2012". So far as other roms go, you should start seeing ICS ports over the next few weeks.
So far as functionality goes, I'd be surprised if these don't go thru the normal "teething problems" roms & kernels tend to go thru, and given your girlfriend isn't "tech savvy" and the device would need to work "flawlessly", I'd recommend you wait until Samsung releases official firmware rather than use a custom ICS port.
Unless you want to spend a lot of time playing tech support ?

If it's a phone for your non-tech girl I would not worry about Gingerbread or ICS, I would worry about Touchwiz, Sense or whatever skin is out there and select your phone accordingly.
Getting into buggy beta ICS or non compatible apps or widgets that act weird is the killer, it just has to work and look nice. Gingerbread is good for that.

No one will be able to answer this with any certainty, as it depends on what lot the phone was manufactured in and gotten ready for sale. If it came to the retailer with GB preinstalled, it will get sold with GB installed. If it came with ICS preinstalled, it will get sold with ICS installed.
It's not like retailers open up boxes they already have and upgrade the handset to ICS.
Are there any phones being sold at the moment with anything less than ics?

There are quite a few for ics in the i9100 forum. Check there if you are running one of the i9100 firmwares.
If it is the at&t leak, well I would just sit back and wait for someone to release it. If you are incapable of searching for the mod then by no means are you going to be capable of implementing it.

Isn't that the same build number as the first ICS leak? It would be so easy for anyone to flash the first leaked rom and make a video that gets people excited when its really just the leaked rom.

In fact IML74k 144 is the build number of the first ics leak. The video is a hoax. It is the first leaked ICS rom. How could they not have noticed before posting that video? They must be in on the joke or simply not that intelligent cause I noticed as soon as I seen the build number that it was just the leaked rom.
I might be reading the article wrong, but I think that showing that video is intentional as they mention the leak build, but they say that the phone they are looking at (not necessarily shown in the video, though they should be more clear about that) is official.

Yes he said he was at the AT&T booth but he never said it was there device and the fact that it was not strapped with the lock on the back so people will not take it tells me it was someones device and not owned by AT&T. I say its a hoax cause there is no way in the world the man with the Note in his hands or the people on the website didn't know it was the leaked rom and I believe they are just tryin to get peoples hopes up and hoping people would not notice theild number.
He also says "I am at CTIA and low and behold there is ICS running on the Note" but you could also go to the gas station or Walmart and see a Galaxy Note with ICS running on it. Maybe the device was owned by a worker at the booth that simply flashed the leaked rom.
I saw the video earlier in the day, i see there's almost no change in the look of the ui. Oh well better than nothing.

root after upgrading to ICS

I upgraded to the official ICS through kies, and have to say am not impressed at all by it. I waited for the official update and didnt root my phone to get ICS earlier. so now since i dislike the official, i want to go with a custom. now i have never rooted a phone before, but i have found some steps online on how to root a galaxy s2. The link is galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-ics-on-att-galaxy-s2-sgh-i777/
I have heard there are many ways to root the same device, where one may work better than another. So should i follow these steps, or does anyone recommend another way? is it even true there are more than one ways to root?
I'm just used to iphones one click jailbreaks.
I searched the forums but it seems no one really needs help with simple rooting anymore. My goal is to install Google Now onto my device. Thanks.

Any of the four kernels linked in the OP of the thread you referenced will do. I don't think there are any other appropriate kernels anyway.
The kernel you need will be no mike swap, since this is not a converted I9100 rom. And it must work with Samsung roms, so AOSP/AOKP only kernels will not work.
It doesn't really matter much which one you choose, if you are going to flash a rom, since the rom will come with the rom developers preferred kernel anyway.

The i9100 ROMS that are ported to the i777 need the mic swap because the i9100 mics and ear piece are swapped. So you don't have to talk in to the ear piece on the i777....

I'm strangely happy about finding galaxys2root... I wished I'd started here so that my understanding of rooting , kernels, roms and all the tips and tricks made some sort of sense to me....
With that said w/o the sells pitch of the AOKP and the video from that website I wouldn't have chanced "brick'n" my GS2(at&ti777) for the AOKP and luckily i got it working and love it so much it had me searching more about it and found XDA; TASK650, WONNER... I'd love to say I'm going to read 1000's of post a day to get caught up to speed but there's going to be probably 10X more post a day than i can read so I'll just keep falling behind...
What I'd like to know is now that someone(me) has done the half/hazard root job and has a functioning rom/phone... exactly in really boring spoon feeding language and pretty pictures go about getting everything needed to get to the latest kernels/roms for AOKP

I feel like it's Russian roulette every time i try something with my phone... exciting but not so much if i f'up... in easy steps can the kernel be replaced from the current rom without restarting all over again? What would fluxxi do for me being I don't know what day it is???

You shouldn't install fluxi until you know why you want it.
In the mean time, the kernel you installed with your AOKP is just fine.

WELCOME! I see alot of noobs here and i would suggest that you take some time to READ READ READ, here on xda. There are stickies in every sub-section worth reading. ALL.. and i mean ALL your questions have been asked at least 1000 times, any information you need is right here in these threads. You will def. get ALOT more help if you just take your time and read the threads, We were all noobs once... and for gods sake use the thanks button if someone has given you information, or helped in anyway!
If i were to recommend a rom to anyone that wants the ICS experience, i would have to go with TASK650&Ktoonsez AOKP. It is simple enough for someone who is new to set up and as you learn more things you will be able to discover you can pretty much customize anything you'd like with it. As far as Kernels go, everyone experiences different results. One may yield great battery life and be as smooth as butter for me, and the same one might not play nice with yours. So the best advice is to Flash all of them (not at once:laugh and let it settle in (usually like 3 charge cycles) and make your decision off of that.
Hope this helps some...
Thanks for the input... I'd only seen one thing that made me want aokp without a clue of what else it may have/do. After installing it... I needed private time alone with all of the wonderful finger strokes I'd given my screen
I'll reluctantly read what I can find on what the geek the flux capacitor does... but please feel free to give out the high lights to why you have it or had it installed and if there's reasons you don't have it any more then number one con to not use the fluxster.
Thanks again xda masters!
