[Xplay][Sony ICS BETA][DATA-FIX][ORANGE uk] Should Work on other Networks also.. - Xperia Play Android Development

I installed 4.0.a.2.0.42 Baseband -56 with Flashtool and then the ICS Beta base files provided by Sony i then have used DarkForest ICS rom(but the Rom doesnt make a difference)
I booted before and after DFrom to find no data working, tried switching to -64 baseband through .62 FW excluding everything but the Baseband.
edit: tried Settings > Xperia > internet settings (didn't work for me but try this first)
Still no DATA(Had orange signal but no G or 3G)
So i flashed back gto -56 baseband as that is what Sony want u 2 use.
Then i simply thought ill try this..
go to www.orange.co.uk/setup
and to Orange GPRS Internet ( under the 'setup my phone to use' Section. )
inputed my phones info
then code shows up on screen then configuration request got sent.
put in 4 digit pass code.
and BOOOOOM! the little 3G pops up.
Hope this helps
[OTHER NETWORKS SHOULD HAVE THIS SERVICE SO GIVE IT A GO THERE WAY, Google is our friend] Good luck!
XDA: Oops, Sorry this is not in General.

I was already on -64 baseband..
I did have the KA11 test v2 ROM.
I then wiped everything. Flashed Sony Beta. Flashed DarkForest kernel, then flashed Darkforest ICS Rom...
I am on Orange and have had signal troubles this morning.
What works for me is connecting to the T-Mobile one manually...
Unsure if Orange are having troubles or not?

You can also go to:
Code:
Settings -> Xperia -> Internet Settings
and it will download the appropiate network settings for your carrier automatically

No problems here DFRom ICS based on .42, -56 baseband.
(If ICS would allow it I'd use -36 baseband, best battery and data signal for me on GingerBread)
Anyway...
I would recommend using -56 baseband(most stable best battery life) which comes with 4.0.2.a 0.42 (also I would recommend this firmware as do Sony for the base to install beta ics .img's).
If u don't Have it already,
Download 4.0.2.a.0.42 here.
http://www.mediafire.com/?nkxkoo4fpfau875
Place it in flashtool>>firmwares.
Load up flashtool, plug phone in USB, press the lightning bolt then flash mode click the firmware version. And untick wipe system and tick exclude system and kernel so it only installs the baseband. Then try settings > Xperia > internet settings.
If that doesn't work try what worked for me in 1st POST.

Wow, thank you for that post
I was under the impression that -64 baseband was best.
I have already got .042 downloaded at home on my laptop I think (but if not, I will use that link provided).
Tonight after work I will flash the baseband and see if things are fixed.
Had no idea baseband affected battery life? I actually don't know much about basebands at all, only that I have the -64 one!
I am currently roaming on the t-mobile 3g network but it keeps going off every hour or so... will see how it goes
Thanks a lot man

And I don't know what baseband he is using, I'll ask it

Because aren't cdma and gsm different configurations. Cdma needs an advanced fix.
Gsm doesn't need this.
Simple resend of settings and correct -56 baseband does the trick ;-)

Yes that is right.
I was having trouble yesterday with -64 baseband on Orange UK (GSM)..
I flashed -56 baseband and noticed bettery battery life.
I'm still having issues with network though (think it might be my location, cos when I go home to a different town than work, it works perfect)

I am confused now.
I have R800i....... Orange UK..... GSM.... and was having data issues
Rom is Darkforest ICS
Kernel is Doomlord with wifi modules patched
-56 baseband now (was -64, but both have problems for me, though Orange is now working fine again now)
I think it was a problem in my area, because when I went to different town, orange works fine.

Base Band Patch for Gingerbread roms

Use it when your baseband is 54+ and want to try out J's cm7 rom or rdannar's GB Miui rom or Arc rom.
Tested working on J016 and J017 and rdannar's GB Miui - for stock kernel only.
Do it at your own risk and it's not supported by J
Patch it with cm7bb54.zip
Restore back the original with cm7bb52.zip (if you decide to change base band)
This patch won't solve any problem that may come with the rom (such as wlod)
Note: This patch won't work on Trip's GB Miui
pls hit Thanks button if it helps you
I want to make sure I got this all correct:
1. If on bb.54+, flash cm7bb54.zip to patch/use cm7
2. If previously flashed to bb.52, flash cm7bb52.zip to go back to bb.54+
Would I have to flash each zip file every time I want to go back and forth between each rom?
Thanks cobrato!
1.correct
2. only if you decide to flash bb52 again(for any reason) and still want to use cm7 flash cm7bb52.zip
no. if you are flashing a new rom which requires bb54 and you are on bb54 then no need to flash this zip.
Can use this patch for bb.55 ?
I finally gave in and left FreeX10 to test out CM7.
It feels pretty stable but there's some issues I sense still need tweaking and I'll post after I'm done here.
QQ; what improvements have you sensed using .54 over .52, both in general and with CM7?
Personally i don't think there are any improvements. But some people just want a higher number. In fact some of the functions in .54 are broken like auto-time settings.

Not correct.....
If you are in north america .49/.52 causes many issues, especially when it comes to dropped calls , failed text messages and slow 3g+ speeds.
On .55 the failed text issue is fixed completely, I get much better call signal and faster 3g+.

Your usb port, or usb cable?
You can't install the kernel needed for GB without flashtool.
So if your usb port is broken, maybe look on ebay for spare parts to fix it.
If your usb cable is broken, buy a new one.
Good luck
sorry but how do i apply this patch? i'm on BB54 with a broken usb connector
i guess this might be (all steps via xrecovery)
1.- install patch
2.- install 2.3.3 rom (any rom available)
3.- install custom kernel (zKernel might be)
is this correct?
thanks in advance

Well, flash a full stock ROM via KDZ and move on. When you have done some reading (which clearly hurts your brain), come back with some non-PEBKAC issues. While you have mismatch between your baseband and ROM, you have no GSM and data. It is written in the howto, but then again, too long and boring to read, huh?
Bye.
Hello ppl. I have flashed to new baseband w/ Cyanogenmod 9(lurpohip) and franco's newest kernel. I can call and send text messages, but data doesn't seem to work. Would appreciate help. I've gone through both how-to's pt. baseband LGMDP.exe. Also did a full data wipe before installing the rom.
I noticed some NVRESTORE NV_FAIL_S errors when I changed to new baseband in LGMDP.exe though.. Any ideas? Tried to change 3 times, same errors occur.
Thanks in advance. Sorry for being a noob, but I have been searching for 2 days.
Unfortunately, CM team has removed some frequency from sources and now, with some carrier (eg. Vodafone or 3 IT), data connection doesn't work. I have the same problem. The solutions are:
1. Not use a CM rom
2. Use old baseband with patch for CM.
3. Wait for a fix

My phone can't find any wireless network?

Since I installed Cyanogen ROM 7.1, my 5500 can't find any wireless network.None of them are listed on my phone!?(like there's no wireless signal around). Tried with different fixes, different ROM-s.. When I was on stock ROM everything was OK.When I go to settings-turn on wireless it says 'Activity Wi-Fi settings (in application settings) is not responding'. and have force close and wait choice. Also in advanced settings says MAC and IP address Unavailable. Any suggestion? Thanks!
What Baseband are you using?
Go to Settings > About Phone and go to the 'Baseband Version' section.
Try finding your baseband on this website, and see if it is recommended for Cyanogenmod:
http://www.madteam.co/forum/development/basebands/
If it is not there or is considered BAD, then download an OK one from your region. (Being from Europe, I am using the I5500NEJP2, which just so happens to be from my own Irish network provider)
I've just changed it from I5500LUYJPE to I5500NEJP2 and still nothing!
Still can't see any wireless signal around..
Try reflashing, or going back to stock just to see if the wifi still actually works

All I can tell you is to reinstall Cyanogenmod and the hotfix again. But be sure to do a data wipe first, and clear your dalvik cache by going into 'Advanced'. Then install the rom.

It won't be OK. If your phone uses the "new" baseband, ROMs made for the "old" baseband will work on your phone (as in flashing will be successful, the phone boots etc.) and everything works except for the most important thing in a phone: the GSM/UMTS module. Which means you won't be able to connect to your mobile network and won't be able to make and receive calls. Bummer. Now, there's a patch that solves this BUT something will still be missing: mobile data. You will be able to make and receive phone calls, but you won't be able to connect to the internet using the mobile data connection (only WiFi).
So, if you want to use a ROM that clearly states it's made for the old baseband, old baseband is what you must have on your phone in order for both calls and internet to work. How to tell which baseband do you have right now it's a different discussion and we'll get there if necessary. I just detailed vlt86's answer for you to understand.
EDIT: I see you already know what baseband you have - the new one. Follow voyager20021's link in order to find out how to return to the old one.

How to turn to 3g/hsda only, no edge on ICS 4.0.3

At first, I used 2.3 honey comp ROM for my vibrant. I had an option that use HSDA/3g only, then the icon never turned to E, only 3g and H appears.
A few days ago, I updated my vibrant to 4.0.3, I couldn't find the previous option any where, and the icon keep changing between E/3g/H.
In addition, when i use rom 2.3 and turn on Mobile Ap: It worked great like a charm.
When I changed to 4.0.3, the speed of mobile AP is really slow and not stable.
Any helps are appriciated.

Seems to me that when you switched the roms the modems changed ( as usually happens). Did you notice what is your new modem under baseband. If you remember the baseband version which you used on your 2.3 honey, you could flash it here and it might solve your data problem.
usually different modems have different sensitivity to the different signal strengths. in case of a weaker signal strength a particular modem might switch from 3g whereas a different modem might stick to 3g at a lower signal strength too.

I have not tried that. In the link below you will find the modems which are ics compatible.

All you have to do is download your choice of modem ( depending on your location) and put it on your SD card. For convenience sake put it in the phone sd card directly and not in any folder. then
1) reboot into recovery
2) select install zip from sdcard/ internal sdcard
3) choose zip file of the modem
4) yes
let it do its thing. Then reboot and check in the settings under baseband.
PS: since the rom that you are using now does not give you the option to select 3g only, even the new modem will switch to E in areas of very weak 3g reception. Just FYI.

what im looking for is the option "Network Preference" on 2.2 and 2.3, on any ICS Rom, it disappears then. I downloaded an app from market called 3g only but it is not strong enough, the gsm still change to E icon.
Anymore way to get WCDMA only?

In that case you can try miui 4 as mikka06 suggested above.
1. open dialer
2. dial *#*#4636#*#*
3. click phone info
4. scroll down
5. change preference
6. you're welcome

It's laggy.
I flashed back to 2.3 cyanogen mod 7.2 already. Now enjoy the WCDMA only zzz,
But i'm still looking for an ICS rom that has that suck option.

Why is laggy or which are your issues? I'm on miui v4 for one week and believe me is not laggy at all

I just dont like to use MIUI 4. I flashed it for 30 mins and then kicked it out of my phone. Cyanogenmod 7 brings me a smoother UI and long battery life.
Just wait a few week for the ICS Rom bugs fixed and then i'll try. I'd love to use ICS, it has such an really amazing UI.

One more suggestion.
If you install Doc's Master ICS v5, in that there is an inbuilt app called as galaxy S settings in the app drawer, wherein under radio you can select HSPDA only (3g only). Although I am not quite sure if it works because i don't have 3G on my plan. However the ICS rom works great otherwise and probably might solve your AP issue too. (Fingers crossed)
Great Tip
Thanks a lot, i was going mad with the phone keep going back to 2g.
Apparently, someone had an app to do the switching, but I couldn't download it because the attachment is gone or something.
