[Q] Synchronise sms and call logs offline - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there any way to backup any new sms to sd card automatically?
and then when you boot up maybe have a script to check for missinig messages?
my plan is to have some sort of sync between two roms - (siyah dual booting)
without the need for data connection, it would be awesome then i can still reference back to calls and texts - and have an ultra light battery saving rom for business and then reboot to primary roms with games + lots of extra features

yours is the only posts I've found about this matter so I would like to know if you've found any solution?
if not then I guess the only way would be to backup sms/log calls before reboot on active rom and restore them after reboot on 2nd rom

[Q] Back up just wifi settings?

Every time I flash a new Rom or update from fresh a new build I have to enter in multiple wifi passwords. I know it's suggested to not back up system data Rom to rom but is there a way to back up JUST my wifi accounts that are stored?
It's not a huge deal but some of these passwords are not 'password' but rather '8d4f856334' lol and not easy to remember so I have to log into the router each time.
Id like to know as well. Getting pissed bcz of this.
use titanium backup back up system and your apps flash your rom run titanium as normal user apps only then go to restore system data uncheck everything except the wifi access points that will restore those passwords
The green system apps should be fine to restore, if you move to GB it saves augomzgically
The noob guide already notes this about system apps

Restoring data/contacts after flash

Hey everyone,
I just updated to the new Bamf 3.0 RC4. I backed up all my apps/user data in Titanium backup beforehand. Some questions about restoring data/contacts:
1) I've always had the "sync contacts" with google option available. However, after syncing I've found that a lot of my friends' contact information isn't there. Furthermore, when I get texts people's contact info doesn't come up
that led me to
2) restore system data with Titanium backup. After doing so, I see most of my friends numbers but not all. The texts I received after flashing were wiped out and replaced by messages I had prior to flashing.
3) After restoring all my apps, I can't seem to change my background picture. It's set to one I took myself. I go into the theme settings but can't get it to change.
Thanks so much for all the help.

1. What information is missing?
2. Yeah, that's what happens when you restore a backup, not exactly sure what you were expecting there.
3. When you try to set a different wallpaper, does your phone give you an error, or does everything work fine & it just doesn't change the wallpaper?
In the stock contacts application, you can export your contacts to your sd card beforehand. Then after you flash, just import them. I export the ones from my phone and it works every time.
This is the method that works for me before and after each flash of a new ROM. (I am assuming a full wipe for step 5 and 6 to get my apps back)
1. Backup using Titanium backup (batch/Run - Backup all user apps+system data)
2. Backup call logs using Call Logs Backup & Restore (found in market)
3. Backup SMS messages using SMS Backup & Restore (found in market)
4. Flash ROM
5. Restore using Titanium backup (batch/RUN - Restore missing apps with data) (I am having trouble with Amazon apps and getting back data so YMMV)
6. Restore using Titanium backup (Backup/Restore - Filter (apps) - restore all apps with data)
7. Restore call logs using Call Logs Backup & Restore
8. Restore SMS messages using SMS Backup & Restore
Good Luck!

1. Basically all the contact info.
2. Ok, makes sense that I lost the new texts. But what about contact info? Some friends were missing, but that was fixed when I synced with facebook so I guess it's ok. Just want to make sure I don't lose contacts when I flash again. I'll try some of everyone's suggestions though.
3. Well, oddly enough, now it sort of works. However, when I go into the HTC wallpapers I can't actually see them on the screen- I have to click the "preview" button to see them. When I click preview, sometimes a new background comes up in which case I can hit apply and it works no problem. Other times I click preview and there is a black background. I hit apply and get a message "Warning. Phone storage is full."
edit: even now, I go into my gmail contacts on my computer and can't find some of my friends' information. I am syncing contacts too.

[Q] How to switch to a different ROM while restoring all apps and messages

Hi,
I have a question which might seem too stupid or trivial.
I am currently running CM 7.1.0 ROM on my Legend. I would like to flash ogo2's Gingerbread ROM while restoring all apps and messages/contacts.
Can somebody help me with the procedure of backing up apps and messages, then flashing the new ROM, then restoring all apps/messages
I have no idea for messages since it doesn't care for me.
If you are not going to format/clean your SD card Titanium backup can be helpful for saving applications with data.
The only app you will need to install is Titanium and it restore applications+appsdata for you after flashing.
Make a backup/restore test drive before proceed with flashing.
For keeping your messages there's some apps in market that might help you, haven't tried them though.

Hi, when i did my root and flashed brand new rom, I used 3 things, I used visionary+ temp root then used Titanium Back for all my apps, I used Go SMS Pro to backup all my sms/mms, and for contacts, I used the built in export contacts to .vcf file the good thing about this is if your contacts are stored on phone (not sim) and you have more than one contact for each name + contact pictures associated they fully restore (so long as you leave the pictures alone on SDcard. If you use only sim for contacts, I have found that you can have problems, only storing the default cantact number, no picture association after backup and restore (lost a whole heap of contacts that way).
How ever, since gaining a lot more knowledge, apparantly you can actually use Titanium to backup your contacts and sms/mms as well as your apps using the "backup system data" from the batch mode, although I haven't tried this yet, I cannot confirm that it works.
for contacts you can export them to sd card, as for the sms and other apps use Titanium Backup

[Q] Android doen't boot

Hello,
I have a problem with my phone.
conf : GS2 with cyanogen 7.1
I don t know what I've done but my phone doesn t want to boot
I made only one good save with recovery (CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.6) in January.
And I take a bad save today before doing anything.
So I have 2 saves :
23032012save good save
31012012save bad save
Actually, I would like to know if it is possible to get back my last sms, mms and last contacts
(because i m not synchronised with google..)
So I try some tests:
I try to load the 31012012 good save and the phone boot but i lost my sms, mms and last contact.
I notice that we can restore by "parts" (system, boot, data...)
-> when I load "data" (good save), the phone boots without my lasts datas
-> when I load "data" (bad save), the phone doesn t boot (block on screen cyanogenmod)
Can you help me please?

If you didn't use a program like sms backup or sync to Google then you will not be able to save any data that you have not previously backed up.
Ok, thank you...
even if we connect the phone to the pc under recovery mode ?
Can't we access to the sms and contact database for example?
What means "bad" save?
U can try:
to restore it and then restore only data from the good one.
CHEERS ;-)

bad save is the save that I take when the phone doesn't boot; It blocks on cyanogen screen (bootloop).
The problem is that I receive some sms and add new contacts between January and March and I would like to get back them.

[Q] Rules and Method to Restoring the msssms.db and the appstart folder? PLEAS HELP!!

Hello Friends and super expert Android devs and users,
I need some serious help with my SMS and MMS restores, moving from one ROM to another. The big reason for this? I currently have close to 47,000 messages in my SMS threads. Last time I restored these to a new ROM, via the XML insertion method using SMSBackup and Restore, for example it took me 48 hours to do so !!! All this being in Airplane mode to make sure nothing is corrupted or interrupted during the restore!
Titanium Backup is not an ideal solution for me either, because, it also takes a while, AND it will not work going from different UIs to UI, for example: Sense Backup to a CM10 restore of messages.
So I KNOW that the secret SHOULD lie in the msssms.db and the appstart folder, which seems to be the universal way Android stores its messages.
So far, the ONLY successful restore I have been able to pull off with the DBs has been this scenario:
1. Backup from a Sense ROM (Copy the providers.telephony folder into an SD)
2. Wipe and Install the SAME ROM
3. Copy the telephony folder using Root Explorer
4. Reboot into recovery, Fix Permissions, and Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
5. Reboot phone and then yes, the messages and MMS were there!
However, this process fails EPICALLY for going to other ROMs like:
Restoring this telephony folder OR JUST the mmssms.db and mmssms.journal files to a CM10 or a MIUI ROM, Rebooting in recovery, and then Fix Permissions, and Cache wipes. The outcome? Constant com.android.phone dying and the whole ROM being trashed ...
So... I need some education and desperate education here, guys. What exactly are the RULES and CORRECT (proven methods) of doing a mmssms.db restore? Can we move from OS version to OS? Like GB to JB? How about flavors of UI layers, like Sense to TouchWiz to MIUI and etc? If so, what is the REAL and the RIGHT way of pulling this off?
Other than that, if you experts thing of ANY OTHER way for me to restore 47K messages, while trying and using different ROMs on my phone, WITHOUT being in Airplane mode for 48 hours AND not, not restoring my whole 47K messages, then please feel free to share! I thank you in advance for your immense help!!!
*BUMP... one of you smart cats HAS TO know this ?
