Sprint drops Evo 3D - HTC EVO 3D

Not sure if anyone is aware but Sprint no longer carries the Evo 3D. You can go to their site and look and the Evo 3D is no longer in their line-up. Some retailers still have some in stock, as of now RadioShack is offering the Evo 3D for $29.99 for new upgrade or add-a-line.

lmao! umm yeah. that's been the story for over 2-3 months now. lol. But oh well, you just now figured it out. Discontinued a long time ago. Sadly, the Evo 3D really is a great phone. But they can't just have 60 phones in their lineup. wish they could keep this one.

they need to grow a sack.
with ICS, the device should be a front runner, and HTC devs should have overclocked the GPU a tick to keep it up with other devices coming out. They could have kept selling the damn things, for the same price, it's all about how you market a product... and with hardware, as always, the performance is only as limited as the restricting software loaded to it.
truly disappointing. with ICS available, they could still be marketing these devices at 100 bucks a pop, even more, and people would still be buying them up.

None of this matters if the phone doesnt sell. It clearly didn't meet their expectations on the sales end which is why they elected NOT to put 3D on the next Evo. Doesn't matter what the hardware is, if people aren't buying it they aren't going to keep paying HTC to make them. Pretty simple business practice there.

The GS2 killed that phone. I had the 3d and figured it be just like my OG evo and i would keep it for a year. I got really bored with the phone. It was like they sold us a cool 3d phone and said have fun go find tour own 3d stuff lol. The phone didnt sell bc it wasnt that big of a difference from the original evo except the 3d and well there wasnt alot of 3d stuff available so what was the point in getting it. The GS2 how ever was thinner faster sexier and had a way better camera. The day the GS2 hit the shelves the 3d was done. I jumped ship asap

yea and they should still have nextel phones, just gotta market that push to talk feature better! *chirp chirp*
on a more serious note... glad you aren't the one making the decissions for sprint though

Marketing ICS
The general public seems to be a little uninformed about android versions. I work at best buy mobile and often used android version as a selling point (Especially when the Galaxy Nexus came out with pure ICS). However I don't emphasize software version as much now since most consumers have no earthly idea what it means. even after explaining, most customers respond with a lack of enthusiasm: "oh... that's neat..."
For myself and probably many power users, It would have made sense to release ICS earlier on the E3D so it could have a better edge on the competition, (iphone, Gs2), but the general public... Android versions don't seem to motive them as much. the early move to ICS would have translated to insignificant increases in sales to justify the release.
Atleast on Iphone instead of saying "The new 5.0/5.1" you can just say, "it's loaded with icloud." Consumers respond a lot better to that. even though I like selling androids better. especially after apple screwed up my evo LTE pre-order (was supposed to get it day after my birthday)

You know I don't have my head up Sprint's butt or my face constantly glued to XDA. So when someone makes a post that may be a little behind or in the wrong forum, coming out and try to make fun and humiliate them only pushes people away from the site. Next time show some courtesy and some decency and correct them in a respectful manner. Some people such as myself didn't know this until I went to add-a-line and saw it was no longer offered, others may see this post and find the same info and see a good sale for a great phone.

Another point is that HTC screwed up on this phone. About 70 percent of the people who've had this phone say its glitchy. I inherited this phone from my dad and when he had it, it would reboot or shut off by itself. Had it not been for it glitching out all the time my dad would'be kept it. And if a lot of people weren't hearing such things it wouldve been more popular.

Magic 7 Rules for Evo 3D Fanboys

For all the thin-skinned Evo 3D fanboys (I'm actually one of them, just not thinskinned):
1. there will be a slew of additional internet reviews this week. (just saw one)
2. they'll validate the same issues that we've already seen (just saw that)...(non have said btw, that its NOT a superb device y'know!).
3. It doesn't mean the site is 'biased'.
4. People here will evaluate, speculate, and express concern about the flaws...this is a PLACE for that.
Its just as valid as people a year ago expressing joy over the 4G also BASED ON REVIEWS...(which, btw overlooked launch issues...biased?)
Speculation is PART of the process/human nature.
5. Allow them to DO that and if you don't want to respond constructively, let them moan...skip the thread...its ok...it'll be over in 6 days.
6. Many a device has been released with similar launch issues and ended up being an awesome device.
7. The Evo 3D WILL be an awesome device.
Well if the poor call signal is true it will be going right back.I have read the 3D reviews and i really do not care about those but when people give a review that says you need to be in a strong sprint signal area then i have a problem cause the EVO worked fine in my home while older phones like the 8330 and rant would go to roaming.
In the end it is a phone and if it can't do that well then it will be a fail for me.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand your comment. Are you saying that you had the opportunity to test one at your local Radio Shack and that, compared to your current EVO, the signal meter was less and that the call quality was noticeably worse, again comparing to a call from your EVO at the same location?
If so, did you determine the signal strength by the bar display, or did you try something like SpeedTest or get a numerical signal strength? Just wondering if the difference is qualitative for you or quantitative. Thanks.
Everyone is worried this phone will turn out to be a typical Samsung phone, I have faith in HTC, whatever glitches or problems the phone might have at launch im sure will be fixed by updates. This will probably be sprints new flagship phone, and HTC didn't build a reputation by selling junk.

Well, for me, it's not about faith, it's about having a functioning handset. I don't need to upgrade from my EVO right now, I want to upgrade. If the EVO 3D needs work to become a reliable upgrade from my EVO, then I'll let it back and ignore my tendencies of being an early adopter. If, however, there is insufficient proof of problems, I may delay my purchase until HTC can make good, or prove that it can't.

I was under the impression that all RS's had the Airaves in them. All the Shacks I have ever been to I have had spectacular call quality. Even in cities where I generally have crappy cell signal.
Im just board with my EVO, I've done about all there is I could do with it. Im so ready for something new.

I told my wife two weeks ago that the Evo was the first phone I had that I didn't have the itch to upgrade early. Of course Sprint had to ruin that by giving me my full upgrade 12 months early.

No Airaves. But some stores do have 4G repeaters. Regular signal is at the mercy of the network in the area.
I was in the same boat as you. I'm perfectly content with my EVO. Getting my upgrade a full year early with the ability to turn in my EVO for 150 or sell it for 200+ just sealed the deal. I'm doubting there will be many performance differences in the real world between my evo and 3vo until there is real dual core support in the OS.

I've observed that for the last couple of days you've been rather preoccupied with finding exact data on this phone, and more specifically comparisons of exact data between this phone and one or more other phones. I don't know that you're gonna have much luck on that at this early stage ... the phone isn't even released yet. It would seem to me that your safest bet would probably be to simply postpone your decision to purchase any phone until the 3VO is released, and you can then at least get quick and easy access to truly massive quantities of empirical / anecdotal / subjective observations from all of the new users here and everywhere else. You still probably won't have any more raw comparative data than you do now, but at least you'll have a lot of users' opinions, which is more than you've got now.

Honestly I am not trading in my evo right away. If I like the 3d in a couple of weeks I will make the sale then.
If the 3d doesn't make it 8 hours at work (mostly in my pocket) which I am able to do with my Evo, it will go back.
If the SGS11 comes out in a month and people LOVE it on sprint (including battery life) it may go back. There is a lot of what ifs, but I am hoping for a great phone that lives up to the Evo's high standards.
How it makes calls is important to me.If the call signal is weak back it goes.
Well guys after four days with my 3vo I got to say f### the engadget review every day I love out just a little bit more just a little bit more, I gave it a kiss goodnight last night. The fps on n64iod super smash brothers is straight up ridiculous........ We did a side by side test today evo vs 3vo same game started the evo first and the 3vo finished the intro to ssb when the evo was about half way through. Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!! manuelly installed netflix today.... It works!!!!! Yes, sadly the 3d makes me dizzy ... Oh f### ing well dude not crying what so ever.
A for battery life, if the reviewers knew anything about task killers they would have said very things about the battery life. Made it all day today with just bluetooth and 4g on all day...... Be prepared to by a case, it was made to have one and the kickstand is only available on a case... Once again, not f### ing crying what so ever..... Can't wait until they release the ota to unlock the bootloader.
Nighty nighty

Will you take back your 3vo?

Im curios to know how many people will take back their Evo 3D if no root method is found within their first 30 days. Im still debating myself, but I think this may be a way of getting Sprints attention. If there is a significant number of people who threaten to take theirs back, maybe Sprint will put the heat on HTC too.
I've threatened to but I am not sure that I will. Rooted or not this phone is ridiculously sick and I am having way too much fun with the 3D feature! I remain confident that HTC will get this done, perhaps with the 2.3.4 update.
You'd have to take it from me!
(Please don't take it from me!)
I won't. I like it fine now. Root would, of course, make it better.
I LOVED my EVO 4G, rooted with Myn's ROM Picked up the 3VO on Friday, was not super blown away at first, but now three days later, it is a more mature and refined EVO 4G, polished up in all the right places, and overall a better device. I like it over my ogEVO for sure, but it's not night and day better.
But seeing the reviews of the Galaxy S2, makes me think 99% I will go for that when it comes out. I am a sucker for the Super AMOLED+ screen, just go to an ATT store, check out the Infuse 4G, it uses the same screen tech, and instant boner looking at that beauty, the colors are jaw dropping, and viewing angles perfect.
Plus the Galaxy S2 is super ****ing thin, I am sucker for razor thin phones, they look so much more futuristic to me. And the design of it being an all black thin slab, just looks so cool. When Sprint gets it, it will be hard to resist.

Lets fact it not that many people will return this phone to have the impact you are looking for; the fact is it is not just a good phone it is a stellar. Even without root, this phone is one of if not the best on the market right now. I won’t get hung up on the root for now because I am sure either, HTC or the community will unlock the device.
I'm still debating as well if I should go back to the Evo 4G or stay. I do love all the new features, design, and speeds...but mess my rooted apps. I would also like to add some lockring and battery mods. I had a rooted Evo 4G with Sense 2.1 + 3.0 already (MikGv2.4) and mess the mods and themes. Hopefully HTC gives out the bootloader soon. If they do, then I'm definitely staying with my Evo 3D.

x2 on that new Samsung coming out... It seems very tempting to make the trade if HTC doesn't unlock these phones. I'm not really concerned with 3D. It's a cool 'wow' factor to friends but I personally don't really use it on my own. I guess when it gets closer to time for the new one to come out, I will make my decision then... Right now I'm leaning more toward sticking with HTC.

Learned this lesson a long time ago: never buy anything on a promise! I for one will not return it whether it gets root or not. I'll have a LOT more respect for HTC if they do unlock it, but me personally, I bought it knowing it was going to be locked. The "talk on the net" about HTC unlocking it via an OTA update is/was always just heresay. I also have confidence that whether they unlock it or not, eventually someone will pwn it.

3vo. That is all that needs be said.
I will stick with it. I am very satisified with the improvements root or not and i do not see anything much better coming out for quite some time. After testing many different android phones I can say this one has the best battery and features and i have tried many out from the G1, mytouch, hero, droid, evo4g, epic, thunderbolt, nexus s 4g. No phone is by any means perfect out of the box. It all comes down to if it works for you and gets you through the day.
27 days & counting. It is a great phone & a nice improvement from the original Evo but I can't see going any significant time without root. Plus I pretty much had my eye set on the GSII anyway. Figured I wouldn't loose anything from trying this out for at least 30 days.
Sent from my Rootless....but still pretty awesome Evo 3D using XDA Premium App
mine went back today. too many little issues aside from locked bootloader.
and btw... sprint is trying to charge existing customers $35 restocking fee to return the EVO3D. you can get it credited back if you know who to call and ask for it
Only a few hours in but it already seems like a keeper to me. I like the improvements made and the only thing I miss so far is the hotspot unlocked. Even without root it's a really good phone so far. Kinda like the Evo's big brother.
Root will happen its just a matter of when. I got the phone Friday and i got to admit I was somewhat let down. After having it all weekend and it now being monday, I will not be going back to 4G. The 4G phone was probably one of the most enjoyable phones I have ever owned. Not 1 single complaint about it. But this phone has so much more potential. There are a few things I don't like such as charging port location, no seperate hdmi, but I can live with it. This phone is definately more advanced than the og evo. And i will always have a place in my heart for my beloved 4G but i am keeping this one.

i have a epic. should i upgrade to Evo 3D?

literally 30 minutes ago i dropped my epic and the glass on it shattered even though the touch screen still responds fine just hate the feeling of it. This is not the 1st time. it would be the 2nd time i would have to pay $100 to sprint to get a replacement with their insurance. its been 2 years so i do have an upgrade available. im thinking about just selling the epic for about $100 and spending $100 out of my pocket for the evo 3d. I think i should buy it at bestbuy and their insurance which covers screen breaks but is $3 more than sprints.

Can you elaborate on this for me? I've been pleased with it so far. My sister in law has her insurance through Sprint and had to drop $100 for a new phone after hers was run over (oops). If I did that, I'd get a replacement for free as long as I can bring in the damaged device. The only downside I've seen so far is that if my phone is lost/stolen then I'm pretty much SOL because they require you bring it back. Is there something else that makes BB's policy suck that I'm not aware of?
Thanks!
Coming from an epic myself, you will be pleasantly surprised. I know dumping Touchwiz and going back to Sense was huge for me. I don't even miss the physical keyboard

10000% love this phone
I believe Sprint will replace broken glass, in store, without filing an insurance claim. I've seen many people say they got their OG EVO screens replaced by Sprint, not sure about Samsung phones, not sure if it will be the same with the 3D. I would suggest upgrading and sticking with the Sprint insurance.

I've replaced the OG EVo screen, it's not too hard if you watch a Youtube video I'm sure it is similar for the epic. But you may as well do an upgrade. If you don't then you are passing up free stuff, as you could just do the upgrade and sell the phones you get from it.

I use Squaretrade knock on wood only had to use it once but it was quick and painless just keep an old phone around u can turn on for a day or 2 till they send you a new one. There is always online 30% off coupons running around as well.
I would link it but I guess I don't have 8 posts yet.
Hey guys I don't think you remember that simply overclocking the hummingbird proccessor to 1.3 ghz blew away alot of phones. Not saying the epic is faster than the evo 3d l, but worthy of an upgrade? I'm not sure. I wouldn't mainly because of the screen the keyboard, and the awesome hummingbird processor.

The epic was a great little phone, and is getting updated to 2.3 fairly fast. It doesn't have the most support available anymore, but the devs that are still there do decent work. I enjoyed mine a lot until I passed it down to my mother. She really likes it. S-Amoled screens are nicer than the EVO3d, but I would rather have a bigger resolution than a Super Amoled screen.
I made the switch to the 3D on day 1...dont miss my Epic one bit...sure it takes a while to get used to the different layout, but you are going to have that with any new phone. The phone, to me , feels solid in my hand and I have been more than happy with how quick and responsive it is. Someone mentioned overclocking the epic to 1.3ghz...uumm, not the same at all...I tried that and I can honestly say that a 1.3ghz overclocked Epic does not come anywhere close to a 1.2ghz dual core 3D (one core...two cores...hhhmmmmm...no brainer to me).
Make the switch, you'll be happy you did if for no other reason than you are done with Samsung.
epic is better 2 me..music plays louder on pANDORA..4G ALWAYS GETS A SIGNAL..my evo 3d doesnt even get 4g lk my Epic did..Iam switching bak until a better phones comes along

I upgraded from EPIC to 3D. Only one day in, so too early to know. My very early thoughts:
1. Missing the colors and blacks of the SAMOLED screen on the EPIC. If I do not see it side-by-side, it does not bother me too much. But side-by-side...wow... I miss the EPIC.
2. Resolution is very nice. This is one of the main reason I upgraded. However, en practice, I do not notice it much. And some of the icons look blurry (not sharp) to me. Maybe they are not made for the qHD res.
3. I used to love HTC Sense, but I have grow to like a more vanilla-like experience. I was using LauncherPro Plus on the EPIC. Sense is just a bit too much for me now, for some strange reason. Personal preference here... I will checkout how LauncherPro Plus works on this, but cannot wait for a cleaner ROM.
4. I have been yearning for the community support of the original EVO. The EPIC never really picked up as much as I'd hope. As an early adopter of the 3D, it remains to be seen whether it will get comparable support as the previous EVO. Eagerly waiting on this one!
5. I miss the keyboard, but not as much as I thought. The screen is large and the soft-keyboard works very well. Maybe someday I will get to have my cake and eat it too.
6. To me, the 3D is even more gimmicky that I thought. I did not buy the phone for it, but boy did it last less than a minute. I guess I should watch the movie, but it is on the tiny 8GB card that came with the phone, which I promptly replaced... need to re-download the content to see.
7. Build quality feels amazing. Solid. But also heavier.
That's it for now!

HTC One X leaked (video)

http://www.technobuffalo.com/compan...c-sheet-confirms-tegra-3-nfc-and-android-4-0/
holy crap! thats all i have to say lol. i was seriously about to give up on HTC after getting the amaze but after seeing this i think i change my mind.
IMO, this is how the Galaxy nexus should have looked.
"4.7-inch 720p Super LCD2 display" super LCD"2"? i already like my screen more than the super AMOLED, cant imagine how this will look. camera has dual shutter mode, the phone has 32gb of storage, its thin, but good build quality. i think when HTC said they will focus on quality this year rather than quantity they meant it.
it looks like they mixed the sensation XL and mytouch 4g haha. not a bad mix though. if this has the tegra 3 i will probably upgrade, if its another quadcore i will probably not.
Will you guys be upgrading? or do you think our hardware is good as it is?
Edit: updated OP with video

im really liking what htc did with ics

Wow if its for tmo ill upgrade sorry amaze
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using Xparent Green Tapatalk
ill probably upgrade when the price lowers and its all around craigslist. its never good to get a device right when it first releases. learned that with the mytouch 4g.
since it does have the tegra 3 that makes me really interested: better battery life and like 60% more GPU performance = amazazing. i will enjoy my amaze while i can though there isnt anything wrong with it and im happy with it.
It says on the spec sheet where the display is that it has 2d corning gorilla glass this must be the new one right?

Thats my next phone, nuff said. I hope its on T-Mo because I have an Extra line on my plan that my Grandmother uses so she does't really need an upgrade.

Yes, Cornering announced a new type of gorilla glass that is just as strong but thinner not too long ago. i guess this is one of the first devices to have it. thats why it must be so thin with good build
I wonder how many people aren't going to buy it if it's S-Off like our Amaze

you mean s-on right? im sure a lot of people wont care considering it has the latest OS. even though google is probably working on jellybean as of now by the time its released it wouldnt matter im sure.
i hate what HTC is doing with the whole s-on/s-off but that doesnt prevent them from making some of the best devices. and the fact that they are doing the whole "quality rather than quantity" will make a lot of people either stay with them or go back. just because samsung has unlocked their bootloaders doesnt make their devices better either.
i would rather have a device better out of the box then a device that is not. and this looks like a solid phone

Yeah I meant S-On
I get what you're saying, but what I don't understand is how HTC justifies launching all these high-end devices and not really providing proper support for all of them. The Amaze is my first device from HTC and considering that it's a pretty high-end device, I expected a lot more support from HTC and not having to deal with problems like S-On, light bleed, etc
wow just wow, but we still need S-off...
Anyone have a guess of how much this will cost off contract?

I guess thats why they are taking the amaze off the tmobile shelves since this is the last phone they made when they used to do quantity or quality. after they ship the ville and this one it will probably be game changes for HTC if they actually support them well and what not. if they do not and go back to their old ways im probably leaving android all together. the only other android company i like is Sony and they still have yet to release their dual core phones with last years hardware. they will be solid devices but they are still behind the game in the android market lol. i will probably wait for BB 10 and see if thats good.

Before this gets out of hand, cause I know it will, I have created this thread to keep down all of the threads that will be started because people are moving to new phones this summer. So, that being said, say your goodbyes here.
Update: It's May 24th, and folks are receiving their new phones today. Maybe get a sticky for this?
Wowww thanks for this haha I was gonna make one like this! But yeah this will probably be one of my last posts in this section It's been a fun 7 months
This is a good idea.
I said goodbye to sprint temporarily (vm fw) , and not too long ago I said goodbye to one of my lines because of too much roaming data.
Are you saying goodbye?
I think it's for the people moving to the Evo 4G lte
Or any other phone/carrier

I haven't yet ordered my phone, so I'm not saying goodbye yet. But I made this thread because if I decide to keep my EVO 3D, I'm not going to want to see 100 "Goodbye" threads started. And if I do leave, I'll be sure to say Goodbye in here.

Well I hope this thread is still around in October, that's when I can upgrade. I'm too poor to do it before then.

I'm due for an upgrade on the 1st of June. I might wait a couple weeks, get into a Sprint store and play around with the phone a little, before I decide to spend the money. But it'll be soon if I do, cause the longer I wait, the less valuable my EVO 3D is.

That last sentence is true. I haven't even looked around yet, I just got this 3d about 4 months ago. Sold my og on Craigslist for 170 and found this on eBay for 200.
Does the LTE have a non removable battery, I'm not diggin' that for a couple of reasons.

Yeah, non-removable. It apparently is a deal-breaker for many, but I don't care. It's a new phone.
As of this coming Friday, I will be saying my goodbyes. Kinda. I'll still have my 3D for a while. At least until I get the VM Virus off and can sell it.

Me either. I'm by a charger most of the time, have a portable already, and this phone is better on battery, and has a bigger one too. (That's what she said!)

Well my EVP rep said I can get mine shipped out today and have it in my hands by tomorrow. Muhahahaha =P Since I have to buy out my ETF it will take an extra day though. WEAK!
I'll be saying goodbye too. It's been a terrible 11 months. This phone by far has had the weakest development out of every single phone I've ever owned. Good riddance!!!!!
lol jk, but still....

I'll see you over in the LTEvo threads when I get there.
I know it will be a while before lte gets to my area... but when it does, I will say goodbye just in time for a cheap price on the SGS3.
Thanks for this thread. I will actually be staying until a more worthwhile phone is released. The 3vo runs like a dream on ICS. Plus, I'd like to wait until LTE is actually available before getting a new phone. I think by the end of the year something new will be announced, or I'll get the 4g LTE cheap

I traded my EVO3D about 2 weeks ago for 2 Galaxy S2's. I still lurk here but love the S2.

harsh bro....harsh.
although i gotta say. development for the 3vo is non-existent compared to the HD2. But i love it. i'll keep it til early 2013. If i buy a new phone before then, i'll keep the 3vo to play around with development-wise.
That's one reason why i bought the 3VO is because it was only 269€ so it won't be AS DIFFICULT to convince the wife that i need a new one when the time comes
