[Q] Downgrading h boot - HTC EVO 3D

Hi all I am currently using a ics Rom with hboot 1.5 s on my goal is to be able to flash these roms with out using chads fix which helped me a lot thanks chad but it looks like the kernel won't be updated to fix breaks. So I have gone thru forums and have seen downgrading to 1.4 s off. My question is this if I downgrade will I loose the flash I have for metro pcs? And is it nessasary to downgrade to accomplish what I would like to achieve having ics without the breaks. Thank you all for the help.

sorry
Hi again sorry didn't say. I have a HTC EVO 3d cdma

Some roms have built in support for metro (like nocturnal ics), so you could downgrade and then flash one of those.
Or you could do a nandroid of your current setup and restore it after the downgrade process.

Before you attempt to downgrade, please write down all MetroPCS radio/PRI/PRL, etc info. Someone asked a similar question somewhere else about Boost. I believe he warned everyone that it will erase and you need all the info to restore his Boost (MOST LIKELY metroPCS) service.

You can also take a screen shot of the settings as well.

Ok Thank you all for your help but let me ask this there's this (wire trick) I hear there's a lot of success and I hear that some fail. If I did choose to use this method would it too remove flashed metro info? And does it have to be h-boot 1.4 s.off to flash the i.c.s roms or can I use 1.5 h-boot s.off? I'm still pretty new to this but starting to get the hang reading what a lot of great people are posting.

From my reading, it seems either is ok. I still would suggest 1.4 s-off as that's what I have and it is solid for me. Roms flash with no trouble and I get no bootloops. But the 1.5 s-off method is easier so maybe someone with 1.5 s-off can report their success rate (ease of flashing roms, stability, etc).

I think that's actually the thread where someone warned about his Boost info getting wiped, I could be wrong.
After s-off is achieved, hboot is sorta irrelevant. You can always flash a new hboot. I'm on eng hboot 1.04.

I upgraded my hboot from 1.4 to 1.58 and my Evo 3d reverted back to sprint, I had to pay again to flash it back to metropcs.
The same happened when I flashed a jelly bean rom. Tried 3 times different roms with no success. I've spent enough money already to buy a 4G LTE.

Understand:
(all are assumed that bootloader are unlocked)
1.4 hboot S-OFF = you can root like we've traditionally have for years and flash any rom
1.5 hboot S-OFF = you can downgrade the hboot to 1.4 and root and flash roms as will or you can keep it and still root and flash roms as will.
1.5 hboot S-ON = you can still root and flash roms as will BUT you just need to flash the kernel (boot.img) first before you switch roms via Flash GUI or fastboot and that's it!
I really don't understand why one extra step bothers people so much? if your hear, you like the hard way, IF you wouldn't then you would stay stock, unrooted and keep living the normal life.....
I'm not worried about doing a little extra leg work trust its just that I was under the impression that you cannot get true s-off on hboot 1.5. But that wasn't my question I wanted to know if it was possible to upgrade the eng hboot to hboot 1.4 and how or point me to a thread that has that explained. Sorry if wasn't clear from the beginning

There is no soff currently for hboot 1.5. But its real easy if you don't want to use a computer. Just use joeykrim app called flash image gui from the market. There is even a free version on xda. Use that to flash a kernel. Then boot into your recovery and flash the rom. Definitely easy. The only thing hboot locks to my understanding would be radio. Well kernel too but thats an easy workaround with the app.

HBoot 1.5 ICSense 3.6 BOOTLOOPS

First off I would like to thank Dropzeroc and Team 420 for an amazing Rom and for improving the experience of everyone using an Evo3D. I wanted to share with everyone else suffering from HBoot 1.5 that if you have been using Chads ICS Firmware fix because of constant bootloops you dont need to downgrade your HBoot to 1.4. I know every time i would flash the firmware fix it would break many bugs that had already been fixed, I had to flash it to avoid getting constant boot-loops. But Juopunutbear's Wire trick to get S-Off was a miracle fix, and after it turns S-Off it asks if you would like to install a custom Juopunutbear Hboot. After this is done you are officially on HBoot 1.5 S-Off! And can flash any ICSense ROMS successfully without having bootloops! I really hope this helps someone enjoy their ROMs that much MORE because i know it feels good TO FINALLY BE FREED FROM THE CURSE OF S-ON! THIS ROM IS THE FUNK!
And now i have everything Working!
-DMD Future MD
ROM: ZR3DX
HBoot: 1.5 (and proud) S-Off
BTW: This solved my boot-looping issues I am in no way representing Juopunutbear or any of his affiliates. I am only sharing with all of you a solution i found, allowing me to leave the bootlooping days behind me. And fully enjoy both The ICS ROMs and Kernels.
It worked for me 1.50 s-off now!
Fortunately for me, I haven't had the bootloops yet on 1.5 S-ON. Currently running MeanROM ICS 1.0. I may end up trying it anyways though, just so I don't have to worry about it.

Yeah but battery life sucks on that kernel!

Yea I was using that kernel for a while as well but aside from the notciable battery drain, you also have to deal with the incompatibility and so many working features from the ROM get broken in the process. But indeed this was all I could use to boot any ICSense ROM w/o going into boot-loops. But now I can flash Whatever Whenever

That's great to hear you haven't had any issues. I'm noticing that HBoot 1.5 is kinda weird like that, with some ppl having issues while others don't. Although I was a little concerned with this "wire method" I can assure you it wasn't hard at all and was a rather smooth process. Longest part was flashing back to ZR3D 3.0 GT to be able to successfully mount and have proper communication between my evo3d and computer, which was a feature that would break once i would flash the firware fix by chad. All in all it was definitely worth it for me because Flash GUI, and Smart Flash, as well and using fastboot to flash kernels was getting REALLY OLD! Now I will never have those issues again!
BTW: I cant assure you will have the same results i did, the process was short and sweet for me. But can be very different for you, just follow the instructions carefully if your up for it, and I dont see how you could go wrong

[Q] Getting ics roms working ?

Ok please forgive I am a noob with half a brain lol. My ? is (is there a way to get ics roms working with out using chads kernel?) I do give credit tho he helped a lot out. I love the ics roms and went back and flashed gingerbread and it wasn't doing it for me lol but would like to get the ics rom working without having to flash it with a different kernel. I would like to see how these roms are with the kernels they come with. I have a htc evo 3d cdma 1.5 h-boot s on. If anyone would take the time to give a noob a hand in this matter or direct me in the right direction I would be very grateful. I have read the treads and just am not getting how to do a few things if pointed in the right direction I'm sure I can figure it out.
1. Downgrade to hboot 1.4 s-off (my recommendation).
2. Switch to 1.5 s-off.
3. Flash using 4ext which should flash the kernel properly.
The reason I recommend #1 is because 1.4 s-off people seem to have the least problems with bootloops.

I agree with the downgrade to 1.4 S-Off. I'm not 100% sure about switching back to 1.5 (doesn't really matter as long as you're S-off anyway).
The main issue people were having was the firmware (adsp.img).
Chad had a test where he made the updated adsp.img file, and people were flashing it and reporting success on flashing ICS roms.
You can only flash if you're S-Off, and I'm assuming you're talking about the Sense 3.6 roms.
Check his androidfilehost for the file, I believe it's still there.

Gingerbread to ICS (CDMA)

Long story short… I have been very busy for the last 6 months and not been keeping up with all the changes for the CDMA EVO 3D. I am not really sure the best way to get from here to there. I am not a noob and don’t really need my hand held or a dummy’s guide (I have been messing with Android since the HTC Hero and rooted lots of phones and pads). There has been just to many new ways to root and leaked roms…etc. It would be nice to skip all the BS and get caught up with what most people are currently doing.
My current config…
H-Boot: 1.40 s-off via Revolutionary Method
Recovery: TWRP v2.1.1
Rom: ViperRom Redline v2.5 RC2
Would it be better to just RUU back to stock Gingerbread then upgrade to ICS and re-root or is better way to get to ICS with root???? I am not trying save anything on my phone. I am a big fan of wiping and super wiping multiple times before loading a new rom. Also is there any benefit to H-Boot 1.5 or higher?
If this has already be asked can you point me to the correct thread.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I'm reading right, just search the development forums for an ics rom, flash it and you're good to go. NEVER TAKE OTA

Tl;dr.
Just kidding. I'm running the latest ics rooted Roms on hboot 1.4 revolutionary s-off. I ran freeza's firmware update without the new hboot. This lets me run everything except the new kernel (which most new Roms don't use). If you insist on the new kernel, you can upgrade the hboot too, but you lose the ability to flash aosp and GB Roms.
So, in short, you just need to pick a rooted ics Rom and go. I like zr3dx, Meanrom, homebrew, or common ground.
I also recommend you change to 4ext recovery. It's really nice.

CM v10.1 "Wild for the Night" - HBOOT Issues

First and foremost, I sincerely apologize if there is some information out there that I have missed or failed to read. I am a noob to this forum as far as posting goes but I've been reading posts here for some time and thus far I have been unable to find a solution to my problem.
This is the third time that I'm flashing my EVO 3D, however it is the first time I've actually used S-OFF. This particular iteration of my phone was completely vanilla ICS on hboot 1.58. I followed the dummy-proof guide stickied to this forum all the way through getting S-OFF through the "wire trick" method. At this point I wound up with a "jbear" version of hboot 1.58. Sweet deal.
Problem is I decided I wanted to try CM v10.1 so I had to change hboot to something below 1.57... No biggie. Except for I messed with the thing for hours and had absolutely no luck getting it to boot. The only thing that worked was returning to the jbear 1.58 hboot and restoring an earlier backup from 4EXT with the stock ROM.
Long story short after multiple flashes, going from jbear 1.58 to jbear 1.50 and back several times I finally got the phone running on CM v10.1 "Wild for the Night" with hboot ENG 1.04.
So... my question is as follows. Have I hosed something up in my tinkering by going back and forth between hboots multiple times? I'm concerned that doing the v1.58 "wire trick" S-OFF and then jumping from one hboot to the other only to wind up with ENG 1.04 might cause issues in the future.
I apologize for any incoherence on the above. It is now 6am and I've been at this for hours...

no, switching your hboots won't cause any issues with your phone. I will tell you however, always make sure you're on a compatible hboot for any ROM you flash
You can change hboots 10 times a day until you change your phone, nothing will break because of that. The problem is that some hboots are incompatible with some roms and some android versions. For most Jelly Bean you need the x hboot, while for Ice Scream Sandwitch you need the y hboot. You get the point l. Nothing breaks as long as you properly change hboots and don't get errors in the process of doing so.
Relax and flash away whatever you want
When flashing a new HBOOT you need to boot into recovery and wipe your cache partition then reboot again to recovery using the reboot to recovery option within recovery. Then flash ROM and GAPPS. Also make sure to be using the VERY latest 4ext recovery. The test version

Not to take my own thread off topic but is there a list of supported kernels for this ROM? I'm interested in under clocking, etc. and not sure if that's possible on stock.
