[Q] How to get OTG working - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my tab 2 days ago and i got my otg cable from ebay for £2.99...Plugged it in my tab with a usb drive connected..nothing happened, tried my mouse..the mouses optical sensor flashed for a few seconds then went dead...I downloaded all the usb mount apps and nothing works!
Any steps to troubleshoot? IS it this crappy cable?
Im running AOKP b38 with Pershoots latest kernal

there is an app i think is called OTG manager. I used to use that one with an xperia arc s to be able to use mouse/kb and usb drives.

USB port in car is for USB Flash drives only.....

I dont think it is only for flash drive because i remember,my brother using his htc explorer to listen music using usb my guess is that the car does not support large storages,
Try moving your music to the external sdcard if this does not help buy an aux cable they are pretty cheap on ebay

Previous versions of Android had option to connect as Mass Storage. We don't have this option anymore so he can't use it as USB MP3 storage. Another issue can be multiple sc cards connected at once but not sure about that.

I was really saddened to read that, so I went and tried out for myself. Apparently you can get it working.
This is, indeed, the MTP (Microsoft's "Media Transfer Protocol) vs UMS (USB Mass Storage). If you manage to get your device exposed as UMS, the car will read it. As far as i know, only the external SD card can currently be exposed as UMS on S3 (read this thread). It may be (theoretically) possible to emulate a UMS, but this sounds like hell of a task to me, i would be surprised if such a thing would exist. If it does, though - do point me to the right direction, i'll glad to read about it.
PS: Do consider simply using a flash drive. Using a UMS mode on the phone, even when available, is pretty much using your phone instead of that flash drive anyway.

Actually when I connect my IPhone I can play and control music via usb cable but not with my android phones
Have you tried an app to enable the phone as a usb mass storage device?.

[Q] How to transfer SGS3 pictures to PS3 via USB (MTP/PTP) ?

I want to upload my photos to my PS3 but it doesn't recognize my S3 neither in MTP (mass storage) nor in PTP (camera) mode. Had no problems of this kind with my old HD2. So what's wrong with this superphone? And is there a workaround? Thanks!
P.S. And no, I do not want to use Wifi/DLNA - it's just too slow and unreliable
Try using easyums

Also use dlna features, all share on stock Rom, any dlna server on aosp.

Ok, will try this if it doesn't require root.
But how come both modes wont work with my PS3 - even the dedicated camera mode? Shouldn't my PS3's photo software get along with it fine?
Am i the only one trying to connect S3 to PS3 via USB? seems like it...
Anyway, JB 4.1.1 didn't solve my problem. still no USB connection possible. EasyUMS needs root so I wont try this.

Keyboard Cover for Android

Good day
I just registered to this forum and hope someone can help me. I have been battling with this for several days now
I have a 9.7" Android 4.0.4 T05 tablet with Kernel version 3.0.8+. I have a keyboard cover which uses a mini usb port. The keyboard works when tested on another tablet with same specs yet it will not work on mine. The tablet can be accessed with the computer via the mini usb port which shows me that the usb port should be working. I have downloaded the app "USB Host Controller" (not sure if this means anything or whether it is accurate) which under the info section reads:
USB Host Controller
Version number: 0.44
S3C USB Host driver NOT found!
Root hub present, USB Host mode active!
What am I missing? Why will this keyboard not work? Any help will be highly appreciated!
Sorry if I am duplicating an existing thread but I am still new here and could not find a thread which matched my problem.
Thank you
Mieke

Would this problem mean that the cause is the tablet having hardware not working? Maybe a driver?

You might need to use a powered USB hub or a cable with an Y-splitter to provide external power to the hdd.
I can't speak for the Z3TC but my htc one m8 can read my usb ssd without external power but cannot power my usb hdd - it spins up then clicks off again straight away

Can you also write to the external HDD? I got a nexus 9 today but it's going back because of light bleed and volume button problems.
It's a toss-up between that and the Z3TC so I may swap it.
Yeah you can write on it., make sure your hard drive is in fat32 or exfat because ntfs is not supported. Also make sure to use file commander if you're not rooted as this will give you full access

Has someone tried to use USB OTG with CM12?
Doesn't seem to work for me at all (dmesg showing no USB related output) except the USB port is unusable (no charging, no connection to PC) after plugging in an OTG cable until i reboot the device.

Maby it is because u use usb OTG apps that aren't desigend for CM12 Scorpion Windy Kernel,
Got the same question, Is there already an app for this?
Im trying to edit kernel myself, and make USB OTG work, Maby there is already something like this for CM12 Scorpion Windy?
If dmesg doesn't show anything, I doubt any app would help

EDIT: reverted to stock FW; USB host working - so yes, this is a CM12 issue
Hey guys,
To confirm, I bought the OTG Y cable and that's how I made it work. I'm using the Nexus import program works great, but you can only transfer to the internal drive not to the SD. To get your files to the SD use the file commander app that comes with the tablet.
Also, the trick to use the OTG Y cable, you connect the HDD and the power to the OTG Y cable, and then plug it to the tablet, if not it doesn't boot up correctly or tablet won't read it.
