hello, as my first android phone i have to say i love the skyrocket. as soon as i got it i did research prior to getting it and now i am rooted with nexusmod's GB rom.
but enough of that, my one simple question is:
is there a way to limit the number of messages that are loaded in a conversation?
this way the phone doesn't lag when opening a conversation of thousands of messages. it would be nice to have it like how it loads on the iphone, although i'd rather have the skyrocket anyday.
i am currently just using sms backup and deleting messages when there are too many. is this my only option?

I believe you can change that in the messages settings... Just like on the i777, however, maybe looking in the skyrocket forums might provide a more concrete result.

No, you need to grab a 3rd party SMS app for that.
I have the same problem when opening threads with over 5k messages which is why I use GoSMS.
Even though this is the wrong forum, I believe it still the same messaging app.
Would changing the limit from 1000 to say, 100, not do the job?

No, that will just keep more messages and won't delete till 1k per thread.
Not what you want if you like to have your messages.
GoSMS & iPhone load the messages so you have to click "Load More" see every 20 messages or so, not sure the number.
It prevents from loading thousands of messages at once which lags like crazy.
I am sure other 3rd party sms apps have the ability as well, I just don't know which since I only use 1.

So I couldn't find a solution to my problem, when I receive a picture it shows as a video. I'm running unnamed. Is there a mod or something to fix this?

the only real fix to this is to use a different SMS/MMS app. i prefer GOSMS Pro, over anything else.
its just the way the stock messaging app works, only way around it is through a third party app.
Go SMS Pro is much better then the stock sms/mms app
Holy crap! I just answered this very same question in another thread maybe 5 threads above this. How many times is this going to be asked? I'm too lazy to check which thread was first and I will admit that the XDA search feature is a bit annoying to use, but for FFS! Now I see why the older members are always *****ing.
That said, I will add substance to this post. I just switched to Go SMS Pro this morning and have to second the suggestion for it. It has been working fine for MMS and they come across just as expected.

Ugh, another one of these threads? Thats what the search button is there for. The stock messaging app from Samsung uses the video viewer to view all multimedia, so that includes pictures. If you want pictures to come up in the gallery, I suggest you replace the Samsung MMS.apk with the AOSP MMS.apk.
Also, calling people a **** for telling you what to do or look for (while it may not be the answer that you were looking for) is not the way to get anything around here... and it will get you an infraction/ban if kept up.

I read in the news section that the forum for GS3 was added but can't seem to see it in the forums tab using xda premium app for android, any thoughts?

The OP ask a legitimate question imho about the GS3 in a forum that is the predecessor to the GS3 where people are genuinely interested in this device. Correct us both if we are wrong then. I don't have to be a moderator to want to spread knowledge of the rules, threads like these are constantly getting closed because they don't have anything to do with us. Being the predecessor doesn't mean we should have a whole bunch of s3 stuff on our forums. Imo the one with the video is enough.

The reason I started this thread served a dual purpose.
I wanted to inform people with an sgs2 that the forum for the sgs3 is now available, and I needed assistance in getting it to show up in the app.
The first reason, not really being obvious, yet still succeeding. May have caused some of the criticism about this thread.
I would like to address the real problem with this thread that has legitimate reason for criticism yet no one caught it, no it wasn't intentional. I apologize for posting a question in general. I do not apologize for creating this thread but for where I created it.

I understand that. However, there is no reason for anyone to rude about it. It would have taken an extra 2 seconds to tell OP why his post was a "Fail". I get every new comer to XDA will ask the same questions over and over. If you (not you Phalanx7621 directly, I mean users here in general) don't have anything to post that will solve OPs issue, why bother wasting your time posting anything?

We do report threads. But maybe you don't realize how often this happens. Its irritating to us because it could have been avoided by simply looking to see what forum you're in. which isn't really too much to ask.
