[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777 Overheating - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Has anyone experienced overheating with there phone after flashing a ROM? My phone heats up very hot while not connected to wall. Very strange. I am concerned that it will cause damage.

... Ok? What does it matter what's happening to your phone if we don't know what you've done to it?
Give us some details man! (seriously though, we need the details so someone can help you out)

I felt this issue early with my phone in a daily use. I sent to AT&T store, revise the phone and give me a new one battery. Supposed to be a factory fault.
Actually, if I install a Rom connected to a power cord, I fell the phone heating, but it's only temporary.
Personnaly, I am not work worry about it.

Yes, I faced this 2-3 times on stock condition on the second day of purchase. I had to pull out the battery for some time to keep it cool as when ever tried to switch it off, the phone will reboot automatically on the next moment. Done few continuos factory resets solved the issue of heating up. Once I rooted it, the phone behaves properly.

You're on like ever post telling people they're posting the wrong things. Its really annoying, whats really clogging up the forums is complainers. Just get over it.
It happened on many roms, many kernels and many different cpu settings, so details wont help you. Sorry.

Hah, i just said that cus i thought i read something on another thread. I just hate when people are overly sensitive about stupid things it wastes so much time, and to make this post not a waste, i would like to let you all know..
I am still experiencing this issue everyday. Especially when I'm charging but sometimes randomly. Sometimes when i use the camera, definitely when i play graphically intensive games.

Naww. Unless you deliberately caused the issue it could be a hardware thing which totally isn't yer fault. See if they'll give u a replacement tell them the issue you are having and that you've already tried to troubleshoot it. And don't let them give u a damn slow rocket as a substitute lol its definitely not.

Its not that bad, I'm just going to live it. It's gotten a bit better.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium

You do know that over heating can lead to expedited hardware degradation right?
It gets super hot, then choose, then super hot then cools... Not a great thing to have going on regularly.
Personally, I would remove all personal files, return to stock, upgrade to stock ICS and then take it in and tell them you want a replacement. Don't take the sh¡trocket. A gs2, oneX, gs3 or even a note, maybe, but that's it.

Define overheating. I know my phone can get really warm if I'm using a bunch of apps or things like Skype on 3G, especially the upper right portion of the back, near the cameras. If it gets too warm, I try to cool it just by holding my hand there covering all the parts that are getting hot (if the phone is warmer than your skin, your skin will cool it, simple physics), and when I start killing tasks after I'm done and let it rest for awhile, it'll cool down again. I wonder if my Otterbox Case exasperates the problem. But after hearing all the problems people are having with refurb units, I wouldn't trade my mostly perfectly working I777 for anything at this point.

As far as I'm concerned, if it's hot enough where it makes me think "holy sh¡t, my phone is freaking hot!", it's overheating. If it's warm not a big deal, that's gonna happen.
I've only had out overheat twice so far. The second time i don't know what happened but my phone had over 50% batt and when i went to pick it up 20 minutes later it was extremely hot to the touch and the battery was dead. Hasn't happened in over a month and I've had this phone for around 6 months now.

whats the biggest problem you have with your vibrant?

Tell us your biggest problem you have with the tmobile galaxy s vibrant.
how would you change it?
Samsung/T-Mobile support an easy to break USB ports that's all overall excellent phone
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
The USB port that's basically it. Also battery life sucks for me as well.
This phone was pretty well built other than the GPS sucking, but I don't use it that much nor do I actually have big problems like others.
We also need more love from Samsung so we can get a Gingerbread leak going
wonder why the usb ports dont last in these. maybe location?

Cuz before we use to plug in the phones just to charge them. Now every time you log in to XDA (or your favorite Devs. forum) there is some new **** you wanna install in your phone....plug-unplug...oh I just found this new cool wallpaper...plug-unplug...new ROM...plug-unplug...new kernel...plug-unplug...new (you get the point). You probably plug-unplug your phone 10 times during the course of one day. Back then it was just once every 2-3 days to charge. Don't say they make them cheaper now, they just get abused now.
...Oh yeah, almost forgot. My biggest problem (besides not getting GB for the Vibrant) is that when I wanna take a picture in a dark place I noticed I'm missing that little small LED light that shines when you take a picture which most new phones comes with....what is it called???...oh yeah is a ****ING FLASH SAMSUNG! WTF what is a roll of the dice? "OK lets see which of the new Galaxy S devices is NOT getting a flash just for the **** of it...roll it"...OR.... "Sir, sir we forgot to put a flash on the one going out for t-mobile"...." **** them I have Verizon anyways, keep going"
**** lack of proper gps, **** bad usb (actually mine is alright so idk) but goddammit! Why the **** doesn't this have flash?
there isn't even a logical answer to that.

ffc was obviously planned then removed, maybe they planned to release a second version with it all along.... kind of weasel-ish if you ask me

My only problem is getting the gps to work. If I manage to get it to work flawlessly, I'd be happy. As for battery life, I've found the ROMs that do give me the best battery life.

Overheating issues?

Anybody feel their amaze getting really really warm, almost hot? Kinda makes me not wanna use my phone a lot just because the heat might mess it up.
This happens around 15 mins of usage.
I haven't had that issue even under heavy use like games, videos, and web.
It may be an app or apps constantly running. Do you check your task manager often? U may have to kill some apps. Also is it charging when you use the phone? I know it gets hot quickly that way.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
Really depends on what's running. When you first initialize the phone it's going to get hot as it syncs and updates everything but that should pass. If you have location enabled and use the gps, it will get hot, if you use maps and the screen is on, it will get hot...just check it for whats running and delete whats unnecessary. Of course I'm waiting for the root to really delete the crapware.
My amaze has been overheating it feel's like it's on fire randomly sometimes , even when im not on apps .
Mine gets really hot too.. not quite but almost too hot to touch. It's not even plugged in when it happens and its just from playing music it charging.. no heavy usage. Hopefully it'll disappear once we get some roms with no bloatware!

Yeah, both phones are great. Its just with finding the right fit for you. I chose GS2 because I figured we would have a larger dev community, its lighter because of its plastic design and Super Amoled+. The downside of this phone is its resolution, but I don't notice it that much for it to be a big con. I heard some people actually rather the hefty-ness of the Amaze. I'm not gonna lie I love the design quality of it. HTC is always known for gorgeous designs.

you also have to remember 2 things though.... 1) the unibody designs always conduct the heat to the outside of the phone, although its operating at the same temp of most phones, the reason you notice it with the newer htc models is cause you can actually feel the heat cause of the unibody... 2) the sammys are all plastic, which doesnt conduct heat too well, so although its getting hot inside, you dont feel it. they both prob run at close if not the same temps, but you can just notice it more on the htc... thats all.

Apps not working after root

Sorry if this is a repost, but after I flashed the AOKP build 37 rom with fluxi xx kernel games mostly have not been working at all. Pretty sure I did everything correctly in regards to rooting and flashing so any help at all would be appreciated.
It will most likely help if you document what you have done from the time the apps were working correctly and when they stopped. Right now it's like if you went to the doctor and said "My stomach has really been hurting lately" and then left him guessing as to what has caused the issue. Instead, you should say "My stomach has been hurting since last week. I have eaten this, taken part in that and been around people who have been diagnosed with this."
He then has reference points to use to isolate the issue. Right now, everyone will be stabbing in the dark at a noise in a circular room made of stone!

Missing EMEI

My mom dropped the phone into the sink, idk how that happened, but I let dried for about 2 days. Everything works, except the mobile network. The EMEI is missing, when I press *#06#, it displays null/null.
I have a back up of the efs folder when I use Unlock Galaxy S app to unlock my phone.
Here are all the methods that I have tried:
1. Use Unlock Galaxy S app to restore the back up file
2. Ktool.
3. Return to stock twice,
4. Follow the guide from vaskodo in international S2 forum,
5. Thread from dickie2007.
6.S II repair app didn't work.
Nothing happened. Still null\null.
I also have anither back up file efs.autobackup.img and efsdev-mmcblk0p1.img.gz. What do i do with them?
Is there any other way to fix it?
Can I back up the efs folder on my friend S2, and then inject it into my mom phone? Will that work?

Heres what i would do but i suggest waiting for another person to comment.
It seems that maybe water or soap or whatever was in the sink left water marks on some of the internal components.
Unscrew as much as you can of the phone and submerge it in rubbing alcohol. Take out let it sit for a day. Put in bag of rice for another day. I recommend getting a new battery though.
Otherwise wait for someone with more exp . To provide advice.
If you do the above... MAKE SURE THE ALCOHOL IS AS CLOSE TO 100% AS POSSIBLE!!!
The higher the percentage, there higher concentration... or, less water.

Alcohol displaces the water to stop(prevent ) electromagnetic migration. Pretty sure you could dip your phone in oil and achieve the same result.... but then you would have to displace the oil. Alcohol evaporates quickly.

Kinda like what it does in your body... which is why you get drunk and get dehydrated. Obviously, don't drink the rubbing alcohol unless you want to get extremely sick.
Hijack: ever seen the vid of the computer running in a tank of oil?! Instead of water cooling, they built a computer inside a fish tank (sealed plexiglass) and filed it with some oil... Not only did it never overheat (amazing heat dissipation) but the parts ran smooth as they were... well oiled! (Less friction so it actually would make the parts last longer and run better)

So is there any other way to fix this?
I heard Samsung Tool z3x can inject EMEI, I think I have to pay too use it but I am not sure that it will work.
Can I restore the efs back up from another S2 phone?
Yes a Z3 box could rebuild the EFS and get back the IMEI (not EMEI).
Copying a back up from another phone will get you the generic IMEI at best.
Since it has been submerged in water you may want to think about the possible damage that was caused and the future problems that may come up. A replacement phone might be a good idea.

When I first rooted, mine got scalding hot in recovery, so hot that it would shut itself off and not turn on until cooling off. Given that, it hasn't done it since the first couple weeks, and my phone is still running excellently with no signs of slowing. I would say don't worry about it.
Eco mode helps with that.
