[Q] Desktop dock makes home button launch desktop clock - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have the samsung desktop dock and when i plug in the phone it changes the behaviour of the home button.
When the phone is docked the home button launches the desktop clock (see attachment for screenshot) instead of going to the home screen.
I also attached the current dock settings, but i don't really see an option on how to disable it.
As you probably already guessed i just want the home button to go home, even when its docked. Is there a way to change this?
Tia!

DockAwake should do the trick.

I don't know why, but my brain skipped the idea of looking on the play store for a solution
And it's not that posting this thread was an impulsive reaction, it's been nagging me for weeks...
Asking it here at xda was sort of my last resort.
Anyway, i ended up installing this app that does just what i asked:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.megagram.docknoop
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Your welcomed CoolCow...That's what these things take sometime...is a nudge in the right direction.
As well as the 2 mentioned here, there is also DockNothingness. So that's 3 choices at least.
I gave you a THANKS button push to get you started

Thanks right back at you

[APP][UPDATED Updated 26/01/2010] PLToggle - Toggle screen rotation

I made this program in answer to a request in the HD2 General forum, but thought I should post it here.
It's a small app that toggles the display orientation back and forth to the rotation of your choice, without the need for the g-sensor.
The default installation includes the settings screen (available from your start menu), and the application itself, which is available via a long-hold of the call button. When the application is first installed, it defaults to standard landscape (the left of the phone being the bottom), but this can be changed via the settings screen.
BIG THANKS!! to vonski and Eldorado9 for their patience and testing. Thanks guys
Have fun
Note:
Manila doesn't like being forced into landscape, so you can't use this app for that - sorry. It works upside-down, just not sideways. (I've got a HD2 with Sense/Manila 2.5)
Also, I've only tested this on a WVGA device and would like to know how it works on other resolution devices, so please feel free to private message me with any feedback regarding this.
Change details (26/01/2010)
Removed the long_send link that was originally being installed in the Windows folder.
For some reason, when you press the call button to answer a call, it executes the long_send link, despite only being a quick send.
This only happens when there's an incoming call. I've removed this link from the installer, but you still execute the toggle with a long-hold of the call button.
NOTE: The installer will remove the long_send link from your windows folder.
Change details (13/01/2010)
Added the settings screen so there's now only 1 installer, instead of 3.
If you do have the previous version, you can simply delete it from the windows folder, or just leave it and install this one.
It will override the existing version's functionality, despite being able to install it on your storage card now.
Great Job!
John,
Great job and thanks for this. First thing that comes to mind is why did you not combine these into one programme so one can have the option to go left, right or upside down without having to install 3 separate apps?
If its not difficult to do and you can spare the time to do it then I would be very interested in a single combined app that I could run off my quicklinks.
I'm subscribing to this thread to watch developments.
Thanks again.

It actually is 1 program, but the shortcut (long_send) is different in each zip file, and that tells the app which direction to rotate the display.
This started because someone asked for an app that would put their display in landscape and then back again, with a long-hold on the call button. After I'd done that for them, someone else asked for the opposite direction. Whilst doing that I remember that someone had once asked how to change the display to upside-down, so I did that at the same time.
The main idea here is that you pick a default rotation, and then you only have a button press to toggle it on and off. Anything more than that would require a UI and therefore more interaction, and since I'm trying to keep interaction to a minimum, that sort of goes against the principle of it.
I'll have a think about it though, but I think what you're suggesting is a completely different application. I'm not against doing that, but it won't be part of the development of this.
Thanks for the suggestion mate
Ah ok, I see. Also understand the "minimalist" philosophy behind the development.
The way I would use a programme like this would be to have it as a quicklink on my front screen (I tend not to link things to hardware buttons) which would then give me the options of (L)eft, (R)ight or (U)pside Down. If that requires a UI (I guess it does) then don't go to all that trouble.
The problem with me is I don't always rotate my device the same way all the time (I'm weird like that) although upside down is a new one on me (I remember Tubgirl, I think, asking for that).
Cheers anyway.

Very nice....it's much more convenient than using BSBTweaks and shaking it... Thanks!
Just a quick question:
I use the Standard Windows Hardware Button Assignment and mapped my internet browser button with "rotate Screen"...
now here for the question: Is it possible to write that app for other buttons too? 'cause i'd love to have multifunction on my browser button and your app is almost perfect for it^^ short press = Opera, long hold = rotate... that would be SO AWESOME!!!!
btw: your app is great as it is now.... it's just a question^^

I think to do what you've suggested, you'd need something like AEButtons. I've never used it myself, but I believe you can assign different actions for long and short button presses to hardware buttons.
Hope this helps
Thanks thanks thank you very much
another key assignement
is it possible to assignt the exe not to long send button but to windows start button (u know that one in the middle in htc leo-next to home button)
tnx in advance.

You'll need to look at other software for that. Try AEButtons. It's not something I use myself, but I believe it will do what you want.
tnx for the fast replay...actually i started to use that toggle and it works fine with long press key.
eve bsb tweek cant rotate application screen on LEO but that toggle does it.
tnx

Version 2 will be coming soon, with a settings screen where you can select an orientation, rather than having 3 different downloads.
Thank you vry much.

I never liked it the way it was, so I've done some work to give you a UI so you can select a rotation style for the application.
Hope this is better for you

Heh - They're far from honed! If it were a windows (PC) app I was building, I'd have no problems. I'm pretty nifty around windows on a PC, but mobile dev is pretty new to me, so I'm just picking it up as I go along. It's always good to find someone asking for something that makes me think "I could do that!"
Cheers for the comments mate - hope you like the new version

Lost use of my touch/mouse pad....help?

I just received my dock the other day, and tonight i was playing with key combos. Now my dumb a$$ lost the use of the touchpad on my dock.
Does anyone know what combo i hit to turn it off? And is there a list of all the dock shortcuts anywhere? The dock came with nothing.
Thanks

Touchwiz home buttons - S3 specific?

Hey guys
I want to put a shortcut in the four home button slots and so I've deleted the "internet" icon from there but now I have no idea how to get Dolphin shortcut to it. I've tried some answers through google for other phones but none that I have found seem to work, any ideas please?
First drag shortcut to desktop and then to the bottom bar.

Oh! Just worked, thank you! My screen didn't have any spare desktop (didn't know this was needed). Sorry for being so stupid
Has anyone noticed that this no longer works after recent OTA updates.
For some reason Samsung has locked the bottom bar and you can't change it any more. Well done Sammy!!
Does anyone know of any back doors or utilities that can be used to get around this issue?

Go launcher help!

I use go launcher, and I don't know if it got updated or something but every time I press the home soft key instead of going to my home Page it goes into this Page and I can't change the settings.
Here is a pic of the screen it goes when I press the home softkey
UPDATE: AFTER 2.5 DAYS AFTER I PLUG IT ON THE SAMSUNG CHARGER THAT CAME WITH THE PHONE FOR 2 HOURS, I WAS PLAYING SLACKER RADIO, AND NOW THE HOME BOTTON GOES TO MY HOME HOMESCREEN, SO THE PHONE DOES NOT THINK IT IS ON DOCK MODE ANYMORE.
HYPOTHESIS: I believe that the phone left over sweat on the usb got dried today after having time went by and the charger current could of helped too... Perhaps slacker radio had something to do with it lol jks, awesome app though.
WHAT I LEARNED : GO TO THE GYM WITH MY OLD SAMSUNG GALAXY S OR MP3 PLAYER
Thanks for all the help and Moderators can close threat and change name of topic to "Phone stuck on dock mode" since I don't know how to, it was not the go launcher problem and it may help somebody else. Cheers
NEW UPDATE: PHONE BACK AGAIN ON DOCK MODE I GUESS IS GOING ON AND OFF WHENEVER IT WANTS

Don't know why its doing it but thats the Homedock screen. Thanks what pops up when you put your phone in a dock.

Maybe I misunderstand but it couldn't be as simple as screen pinching on your home screen to reveal all your windows then selecting the home icon of the screen you want as the default... is it?
Oh you might want to post this in the QA forum next time

Do you have Tibu installed? Can you freeze the car dock app to see what happens?
When did it start and what where you doing when it did. maybe an app you installed?
Press menu button. At the bottom left is a setting to change number of screens. Each screen has a little symbol that you can press and whichever one you press will turn green. That will be your home screen. Then go to preferences and set the action of the home button.

I don't have tibu, I can't find an app called car dock, and I searched under management applications but did not see it.
I did not download anything new, and what I did before it did this was put the phone on my pocket and I went to the gym for 4 hours, when I finish the phone had kinda sweat wet, not crazy much but enough that got inside the back cover speaker hole and there was some sweat around the battery.
What I think is the problem is that maybe alot of sweat got inside the usb port and now the phone thinks is plugged in a dock....

This is the screen I get (as stated above) when my Note is in the Samsung Desktop charger. If I remove it from the Samsung Desktop charger it works fine. While in the charger I have to push the back softkey to return to the Home screen.
Any ideas? How do I freeze the dock app, but I read it should clean or clear the usb port, idk how, but please help :s

[Q] Close phone from lock screen??

I constantly open my phone to check the time, hit the home key one handed and look at time on lock screen. But now I'm holding my phone by the bottom right corner and have dropped the phone before while trying to reach up and press the side button to close... it's a pain.
Sure I can sit there and wait for timeout, or I can put it back in my pocket, in which case it might "swipe open" and be doing all kinds of things while in there.
Wouldn't it be cool to look at the time and just click something, like the home button again, or the 'back button' and have the phone close again??
Anyone know how?

Are you rooted? If so using the home or back button could be possible via smali edit. If your not rooted, I can write an app that will show a square (size determined by you) that will show on your lock screen. When you tap this square, it will shut off the screen, tapping and moving your finger on the square will move the square. Square is removed once unlocked.

You can reassign one of the capacitive keys (e.g. "back button") to turn the display off with an Xposed framework module. And there are legions of apps that do similar actions if you do a search.
Even better IMO is to use a lock screen app like Dynamic Notifications which can automatically show you the time when you pull it out of your pocket and automatically turn off the screen as you put it back in a pocket. Without pressing any keys at all. It does this by using the proximity sensor and it works very well indeed.

They may not be running xposed. Therefore an xposed module may not work. Secondly, all lock screen apps suck. Also, if it's using the proximity sensor to turn on the display from your pocket, it's draining additional battery.

All lock screens suck? Your objectivity is astounding. No subjective bias there whatever. The idea is to provide options to the OP, not cater to your idiosyncrasies.
The battery draw for the suggested app is tiny, much less than most apps that do not poll the proximity sensor and you have no idea if the OP may or may not wish to use an Xposed module.

No lockscreen app can provide the same amount of security as the default lockscreen. Therefore, it sucks. I can and have gotten around all popular lockscreen apps on the play store. Yes, the idea is to provide options to the OP, but make them good options and practical options.
