[Q] Thunderbolt Stuck in Boot Loop - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im running Gingeritis 3D and earlier today I updated my radio to the 1.49.00.0406w_1 radio, and when it was done all worked fine for a while. when I went to plug my phone in, it went into an endless boot loop, and im kinda freaking out. I tried to use adb to push my old radio back onto my sd card, but my device isn't showing up under adb while in hboot usb mode. Does anyone have any advice on what to do?

RUU worst-case.
Its going to look like I'm advertising for my site, but I have the release firmware RUU up for download @ mechacentre.tk

[Q] Boot loop when plugged in any ideas?

Hello, my first post so hello to all.
Mt phone recently started going into a boot loop when I turn it on when it is plugged into a charger. I am running the newest OTA stock. Any suggestions?
I can boot it when it is not plugged in but it will randonly reboot during then day as well, if it happens to be charging when it does randomly reboot it will boot loop uintil I unplug it.
I tried replacing the battery to no avail. I was running a rooted rom but switched to unrooted stock to discount that possiblity as well.
Thanks

Issue still occurs on unrooted stock ROM?
When you say boot loop, you're referring to the boot animation looping over and over, or the device back to the splash screen, then thru the boot animation and back to the splash screen?
The main logs you'll want to watch are going to be logcat (adb logcat) for the Android system and /proc/kmsg for the kernel.
Hope that helps point in the right direction!
What is the easiest way to check those logs... I'm pretty software savvy but never really messed with Android internals

Are you CDMA or GSM? When you went stock did you wipe?
I did as clean of a wipe as I know. I am soff so I installed stock recovery and used the stock ruu.
I am cdma

What software on you on? 2.08 or 2.17?
I haven't had any reboots ever flashing rom wise I have newer hboot 1.5 with S-On
I am wondering if the issue is due to a rom or root method or hardware problem?
When did it start? Is your phone new or a used one?
I AK on hboot 1.4 with soff. I bought the phone launch day New. I have insurance so i could have them swap it out. I am running 2.17.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
You might need to update your hboot to 1.5 and use htcdev unlock, don't worry you won't lose s-off. I had to do it too I am currently on 1.5 with s-off. Once you update flash a new ROM and you should be set.

Solved
Well I figured out what was going on, the phone would get hot when I would plug it in and it needed to charge which was causing it to reboot. Today it actually totally died and wont power on. So I am definately blaming hardware at this point. Thanks for all the suggestions.

[q] hboot 1.5 s-on relocked boot loop! Help!

Hello everyone, I recently relocked my phone and installed stock 2.17 RUU from my computer which was successful but the phone continues to boot loop all the time. I even put the PG86IMG.zip into my sdcard and it recognized it and completed but the phone is still in boot loop. I don't know whats going on! I did everything in my power! Please help :-(
After it installs you have to delete that file on the sd card
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium
No luck at all. I put the PG86IMG.zip file in on sdcard and let it install and removed sdcard from phone and put it in laptop and removed the file then put it back in phone and still, a boot loop. This really blows.
I even rerooted and still nothing. NEED HELP! PLEASE! I BEG OF YOU ALL!
Run again the ruu.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
Guess how many times I did that? Like millions I think.
Did you wipe before relocking ? You have the latest RUU ? I just unlocked and relocked cause I dicked something up lol.. Messing around and TWRP didn't play nice for me
Put the phone into FASTBOOT USB THEN run the RUU EXE, NOT THE ZIP FILE.
Did that too with no luck. I sent it in for repair, expect it back in 3 days. Thanks for trying to help, everyone.

Stock (unrooted) Thunderbolt stuck in boot loop

My daughter has a stock Thunderbolt, which has worked since Christmas. All of a sudden a couple weeks ago, she woke up and it was stuck in a boot loop on the HTC splash screen.
I'm still able to get into bootloader, but unable to do a factory reset, or flash a stock RUU. Cannot boot into (stock) recovery. As soon as it tries to load the recovery console, it starts the splash screen looping again. Seems like recovery is corrupt or something
I've tried some unbricking processes, but nothing has worked. If I could get adb to see it, I'd just root it and put cwm on it, but can't get that either.

Any help is very much appreciated. Verizon store said they can't flash a fresh recovery on it, or the latest RUU...
Nothing? No suggestions?
Maybe something herehttp://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/449138-boot-loop.html will help...
What won't work with the RUU?
It possibly could be caused because of a corrupt sim card and/or a corrupt SD card. Try removing the SD card and see if it will load up. If still nothing, take it to Verizon for another sim card. If you go into a corporate store, they won't charge you for another sim.
Just a couple of my suggestions.

I will try that link above.
I brought it into a privately owned verizon store on Thursday, explained to them what was going on, they said they have no idea, and I should bring it to a corporate store, so I did.
I told the guy exactly what was happening. He assumed a read a few things on the internet, so treated me like I've never used a phone before. I have had a G1, Evo, and Evo 3D...all rooted and mega customized, so not like this is my first attempt at using a smartphone.
I've tried booting without the sdcard, same thing. I've tried booting without a sim card, same thing. I tried with another verizon LTE sim card, same thing.
When I try to flash anything, I put the zip on the sdcard, power on to hboot, let it load the zip, then it does nothing, just sits at hboot. I scroll down to recovery to be able to select to restart or power down, press power, it goes to the white HTC splash screen, then the circular arrows above the phone, then to the red X, then back to HTC splash screen and boot loops the splash screen.
I can tell you your recovery is gone. Try downloading the hboot flashable cwm again and flash that in hboot. If you can get into recovery maybe you will be able to flash a rom again. You may also want to reformat your sd card or even try a different one.

that's exactly what I told the verizon dude, that recovery is gone and all they need to do is flash it back on, he said that's not possible, handed the phone back to me and said "have a good day".
I knew it was a long shot when I went in there and had to tell them how to boot into hboot, and how to remove the battery.
Don't I have to be S-OFF to flash cwm? Remember, it's stock, unrooted, and S-ON
How didn't the ruu work?

Because when hboot loaded it, which took a few minutes to load and verify, it then automatically went into recovery to actually flash it, which put it right back into the boot loop.

Now that I think about it, it shouldn't have to go into recovery to flash it, it should have been just fine from hboot....but...after I flashed the RUU, it did reboot into recovery, and started the loop
So did you remember to clear cache and dalvik cache? That would put you in a boot loop every time.

No...it's stock, stock recovery, stock rom, S-ON...she brought it to me in this condition. It's not a rooting gone wrong. If I could get the laptop to see it, I'd root the damn thing so I can get cwm on it.
When she brought it to me, it was in this exact state. First thing I tried was to boot into recovery, which didn't work. So I googled for 'thunderbolt boot loop' and started trying things.
Before I go any further, I'd like to thank everyone for their input and thoughts. She's 12, and I really don't want to have to buy her a new phone.

Try redownloading the ruu
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
I have the exact same problem, I am using a custom rom, killasense.
It loads to HTC splash when I try to connect to computer or try to go into recovery from revolutionary. It says S-OFF on revolutionary, not sure what it means.
Please update if you find a solution, I am trying to do a factory reset, but cannot.
If it says s off that means the phone has been rooted. You're running killasense which is a custom rom.. If you want to go back to stock simply download the most recent ruu, put it on the root of your sd card and rename the file to PG05img. Reboot into the bootloader press the power button to enter fast boot. It will ask you if you want to update select yes. After it completes make sure you rename the file so it doesn't try running the ruu every time you enter the bootloader. Also check the md5 before you try to run it.

I downloaded the 2.1 mecha ruu and tried to load it in hboot, and it said the existing Rom is older. So that mean I can't flash a newer ruu? Gotta be the same or older?
Since I don't have a thunderbolt, I'm not familiar with ruu versions, any way to tell in hboot so I can download the same or older?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
I put a new rom file (BAMF SoaB) into the SD card and renamed it PG05img, went to Revolutionary it said loading PG05img, but after it loaded it did not show a yes or no prompt. It went back to home screen of revolutionary after saying "No image or wrong image", still stuck on boot loop splash screen.

[Q] *Help* Thunderbolt Stuck at HTC splash screen

Me and my friend have been trying to root his HTC Thunderbolt and we thought everything was going pretty smoothly. We found one of the versions of the Liquid ICS and moved that to his SD card and we unlocked the bootloader using the HTC dev site and everything was working just fine. We even got to the point where we could flash CWM onto the device and even that seemed to go smoothly. But after we flashed clockwork onto the phone we were only able to get to recovery. Anytime we try to boot into the rom that we installed it just sits on the white HTC screen. We've wiped data, dalvik and cache, which is a common cause for bootlooping and common errors as such. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, my friend is concerned about not having a phone and is actually considering purchasing a phone for retail price off of amazon, and I really think thats a waist considering this phone isn't bricked, and I think the geniuses here at XDA can definitely help us out of this pickle. Thanks in advanced - Randy

Your first problem is that you used HTC dev. You need to relock the bootloader and use the allinone tool to unlock get root and s off. The problem is that liquid ice has a custom kernel and you can't flash those with a locked bootloader.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using Tapatalk 2
Could you link me to a thread on how to do that without getting your computer to recognize the phone? Because as is, the phone can't be recognized seeing as it won't boot and its either stuck at a white screen, on HTC's boot loader *which is unlocked*, or clockwork recovery mod.
Before you setup your phone you need to fast boot flash a stock ruu. You should have made a nand in cwm before you ever attempted to flash a rom. If you did you wouldn't have this problem right now. You could just restore that backup in recovery and you would be rooted stock. Then you could follow the relock procedure and use the allinone tool to unlock and get s off.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using Tapatalk 2
Well that would be where we screwed up. we never made the nandroid back up and we kept trying to flash the RUU onto the phone via HBOOT but that doesn't work either. It says that is radio version 1.49.etc. inside of the bootloader.
You will need to give me more info about your radios. What baseband are you running?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Alright so I dropped it off with my good friend Ryan and he was able to manually flash the RUU onto the phone and got it to boot stock. So we are done with our phone adventures for a little while. Thanks for offering to help, but we got it all solved
Now that you're root stock you can relock and then use the all in one tool.

Bootlooping, need stock image

My LTE took a dump the other day. Started overheating like crazy, despite no changes.
Was running cynagenmod 10.2 and it was working well. S-Off HBOOT 2.09.4444, Radio 1.12.11.1119
Then these overheats kept going all day until I turned it off. Then started bootlooping, would fully launch one out of 10 times.
So I wiped using TWRP and gave that a try, no luck, still overheating and bootlooping.
So I wiped and restored a TWRP backup, nothing... the stock rom is bootlooping even harder than before and never fully launches now.
It got to the point TWRP wouldn't launch until I had to put a fresh version on the SD card.
Tried to install the newest stable CM10.2 image and as before locking up at boot splash screen of the rom after HTC "quietly brilliant" and looping.
So now I am stuck, downloaded the stock RUU from HTC website, however the devices needs to be recognized to use their exe.
Is there an image I can throw on the SD card and use TWRP to try a flash from that? Any other recommendations?
TIA.

What are you trying to achieve? Do you need an alternative RUU flash or find a new ROM so you won't get bootloops and heating?
I suggest going on CM11 or resort to Meanbean for stock sense 4.
If you're running a RUU I suggest using this method here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50523371
But before that please read the first 4 posts of this thread (especially Q&A) to get you updated on what's going on with the newest RUU.

I am trying to get this phone into any working order if I can. I have reason to believe the hardware has been affected by the overheating. I need to get it to fully launch before I can declare that, so anything to stop it from bootlooping is what I am trying to achieve. Occasionally, when it would fully launch, I noticed none of the radios worked, no mobile data, no WiFi and no Bluetooth which were previously functioning fine.
The links are down to the two files needed in the first post you're referencing.
I believe my partitions are out of whack and need to be fixed. Everything I am seeing to repair partitions is while the phone can boot, can someone point me to some info that shows how to fix partitions while only recovery is achievable? Maybe I am going about this wrong, search not returning the results needed.
TIA
You can RUU from the bootloader, without having to be booted to the OS. I can confirm this works on both the 3.17 RUU and the latest 4.13 RUU, which I have both used. Make sure you have HTC Sync involved and use a Windows 7 machine and you shouldn't have any issues.

Hmm, tried this on Win8, I'll give 7 a shot, thanks for the heads up!
How do I ensure my partitions are in proper order? Often when in TWRP and trying to run common commands, I get SD card unmountable and noticed what seems like multiple SD card nomenclature.
