[MOD] enable soft keys, disable hard/capacitive keys - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

this has been confirmed working on all the other carriers... I'm Sprint but it works on Verizon: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032117

This would be nice if we could make it pop up when the pen is out and/or reduce the size of the buttons.

Awesome, thanks for sharing. This really makes the spen more functional, having an easy to access home and back button, and the one click recent's button is the cherry on top. It would be nice to just have it pop up when you pull out the spen, but I still like the recent's and soft home button.
I'd like to eventually have a customizable nav bar, like in AOKP. On my S3, I turned my nav bar into my dock and had long press commands for each one as well, such as opening voicemail when long pressing home, composing message when long pressing messages, etc. You could also resize the bar so they didn't take up as much real estate.
Nonetheless, thank you for sharing this. I'm loving all of these mods.

This and I'm pretty sure most people get the note for the bigger screen. Why waste precious space with nav bar? I do like the concept of just having it enabled when the s pen is pulled out. Probably a way to do it by modifying the page buddy to disable the hard keys and enable on screen soft keys.... Just a thought
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app

So it works, but the home button + power does not do screenshots anymore.. Apparently it changed to the volume down + power??
Here it is though.. I plan on still keeping my hard keys active because I do like the menu function (personally)
EDIT: S-Pen will not take screenshot either????

I second this as well. I would love to see the on screen buttons automatically appear and disable the hard keys when the S-Pen is pulled out and do the opposite when the S-Pen is placed back into the holder. Or maybe add a S-Pen shortcut to enable on screen navigation keys. Now that would be crazy.

Thanks guys... not sure why it worked this time.. but it did!

Mod is working great but these touch wiz keys are disgusting looking especially when the menu key shows up. It moves all the buttons out of order.
Does anyone know of a way to flash the stock Android buttons. Thank you!!

Never mind, works great. For some reason it doesn't work on Paranoid Rom. Flashed Beans 5 Build and it works great. It even switched to tablet mode when I switched it to tablet mode in the dpi settings.

This makes my Note 2 soooo much more usable with S pen. Even when not using S pen, it somewhat bothers me to have both softkeys and hardkeys to deal with.
Annoyingly, it does conflict with some touchwiz apps...the dialer for example. I dial into a lot of conference calls to clear access to '0' and '#' is pretty important. I may try a different dialer, we'll see. I really would prefer to not lose the touchwiz features of dialer.

Recent Apps Mod in Status Bar for CM9
Hey everyone, I just compiled this small mod from the cm9 source for the att galaxy s2. It adds button in the status bar that goes to recent apps dialoge. Just flash this in cwm on top of CM9.
See the screenshots for more details...

Thanks to

and evilisto for his excellent guide on how to do this which can be found here
One last thing... If you would be interested in me remapping the search key to serve as a dedicated multi-tasking button please leave a comment telling me. I wasn't sure if people wanted this so I'm not gonna make it until I have some support
Remap Search Key as Recent Apps
This small mod lets the search key act as the recent apps toggle that the galaxy nexus has. Just press the search key, and it will bring you directly to the recent apps dialoge, which makes multitasking even easier. This is only for cm9. There's really no need for screenshots or anything becuase its just a different way to get to the recent apps. It may be a bit confusing at first trying to use the launcher without the search key, but you'll quickly get used to it. I reccommend putting the google search widget that is on every homescreen...
Download below. Just flash in CWM

Sent from my EVO using XDA
It's where the arrows go in landscape. Are you using a mod to disable arrows on the IME keyboard? If so that's why the gap is there. On Charmeleon it looks like he found a way to make the arrows still show up in landscape on legacy apps.

I actually dont like onscreen buttons as they tend to take away screen space. I may be one of the few people who dont mind capacitive buttons at the bottom. I hate having a portion of the screen being dedicated to buttons. Give me the full 4.7'' of goodness lol.

The hardware buttons drain note battery. You can have the search and menu accessible on the nav bar, plus instant access to Google now and long press search. With CMX yes you can get access to some of these features via long press, but not all of them. It's a choice for people, it doesn't have to be used, but there are some of us that like it and prefer it.
i put a little bit of time into this mod today
softkeys.zip- adds the on screen nav bar
softkeys2.zip- adds the on screen nav bar and disables the physical buttons (the backlight still turns on i didn't look to hard at trying to disable them)
the search key is something i have looked into a lot and i didn't find any solid How-to's on how to enable it i know it involves the SystemUI and the navigation_bar.xml but i haven't found a JB rom with it turned on by default without a tweak to access it
Okay so spent a little more time with it today and I got all the keys up, the button lights are still on, not sure what is causing it and it looks like I borked the app switcher for the moment but here is proof of concept

[MOD][Xposed] Enable camera on lockscreen

Samsung users with 4.2.2 should have a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43581535#post43581535
Just a simple tweak that addresses an issue that's been bugging me.
I have a long password, and having to enter it every time to use the camera is a major inconvenience.
This tweak allows you to open the camera while the device is locked. Both the camera and the camcorder work.
Tapping the gallery button will send you back to the lockscreen.
Download: http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/public/Android/Xposed/EnableCameraOnLockscreen.apk
This will only work on Samsung based ROMs.

Just enable "With swipe lock" in Settings -> Lock screen and add a shortcut to the camera in lock screen options.

Thanks for the suggestion...
There is no camera icon on my PIN lock screen. All I have is the clock/personal message, PIN keypad, and emergency dial options at the bottom. I can only get the camera icon to appear on the lockscreen when I select Swipe (unsecure) lock screen.
Any of the lock screens w/security (e.g., pattern, PIN, etc.) will not display the camera icon, nor allow me to select that option in the Lock Screen settings, even though I have this xposed mod installed.
Either I'm making a doofus error somehow, or this just isn't working on the GS4. Do you know if anyone else w/an S4 got this to work?
Screen shots of xposed to show what it looks like.
I am able to get it to work however, after a short while the hack fails until FC or retstart. Perhaps a constant notification is needed to keep it live?

work great!! Thanks a lot
Very nice app and it works good on my galaxy tab s 10.5.
Small problem here. I have those on screen home back buttons on my tablet (I root my tablet and change some system app). When I played most games, those on screen soft key will hide by themselves. But your app will not hide the key, so I always hit the home button on my screen.
Anyway this is an amazing app that I was looking for. Thanks again

trying right now
Looks like it won't hide the soft key. But I do see a action that app try to hide the key for like 0.1 sec(sometime). But the soft key pop right back. Screen shot here.
But keep this in mind, tab s 10.5 don't come with the on screen soft key, I root the device and changed some system files. Only a few apps or games can hide the key by itself.
Nice app thanks again.

This is a great app, I use it on my Tab S and my S5. Was looking for this for a long time
Any chance to make the app also store password so we can store 10 password 1 for each finger, I really hate when a page don't remember my user password and I had to write it every time.

This is the great app. Must support. Thanks.
Would be cool if we could add username and password for each app within this app, this way once we select an app and swipe our finger on the scanner, it'd auto log in the app

Hi there, what does the theme option exactly do? What is themeable and to what extend?
