longstanding GPS navigation issue with UK titan - HTC Titan

Hi Community,
I am writing again because I wanted to share my story about my UK Titan I have had for over a year now. I had won this titan at a windows phone party provided by microsoft and i was ecstatic about winning it, it wasn't until 6 months later that the navigation on my titan started to FAIL. It simply would not lock onto my location and tell me the next turn or my continuing direction for whatever navigation software I was using.
I sent it back to HTC for repair and it was fixed actually the navigation worked perfectly but then I had an issue with a loose battery back cover and purchased some non oem covers that did not fit securely either.
So my idea on a solution for this problem was to buy another uk euro htc titan from europe which I did and lo and behold its navigation failed miserably as well! I had since sold my original uk titan and have sent my current UK titan back to htc for repair THREE TIMES, I am not kidding i sent it back to htc for repair 3 times, i wrote long explanatory letters to please test this device before you send it back to me on but obviously this request reached no one.
I have had many horror stories having my titan fail in giving me directions but the worst was when i was at a party near the border ( i live in san diego) on a very foggy night and could not see 5 feet ahead of me, I was driving aimlessly looking at my navigation begging it to lock and tell me where to go , i almost reached hte border into mexico and had to figure out on my own how to get home, and to make it worst i continued to watch my titan as i drove and the navigation came to life when i was almost home!
I have opened a new escalated dispute with HTC in that there must be some resolution to fixing this navigation issue, and that is pending. I just can't understand how my first uk titan had an initial navigation problem i sent it back for repair and it worked perfectly but sold it (which was a dumb move) only to import a new one from the uk and its navigation gps fails miserably every time.
oh and recently i figured out how to get my navigation to work, when i am in my car, i have to put my titan on the dashboard ALL THE WAY to the edge past my steering wheel and in about 20 seconds or more the navigation will start to work! and it will work perfectly, but it shouldnt be like this i shouldn't' have to play with the phone in different positions with a clear view of the sky to get it work. If i set the device say on my center console in front of the radio, it stops working again.
i have become obsessed with my phones navigation and getting it to work, i dont want to upgrade to wp8 because:
1. I love my phones big screen
2. the removable battery
3. 7.8 custom roms have much more haking/customizing freedom than current wp8
4. the titan has been "jailbroken" for custom roms
so i ask has anyone else experienced this issue? any idea or solutions on homebrew solution to fix maybe?

update resolved!
after sending my uk international titan back to HTC FOUR TIMES, they have fixed the gps hardware portion of my phone, i can now use any turn by turn nav app and it works it freaking works so happy! moderator please close this thread

Well just a few moments ago I took the leap and switched carriers from Verizon to AT&T and as such purchased the new HTC Pure. I can’t wait to test it out. I’m not sure what the true HTC model name is and which phone it corresponds to on this site (I think it might be the next gen Touch Diamond2), but I guess I can worry about that later.
So I was wondering what things can you do with your Titan WITHOUT a carrier. Is it possible to enable the GPS to function (perhaps using something other than GoogleMaps or Bing)? What other uses would you guys suggest, besides paperweight or skipping stone (just kidding - my Titan was the best phone I ever had )?
Thanks to everyone for all their great builds -I'll still be testing them out, when time permits!
Get garmin xt and use it as a gps unit. and then signup for navizon from my signature link and use it as a logging phone and make some money in the process. This is what I do with my extra phone.

tg01 for 149 pounds in uk. join the tg01 club!

this the price of this phone in uk orange stores, for a pay as you go device. then unlocking it cost around 10 pound at unlockallcellulars.for this price you ve got the snapdragon cpu, a very nice lcd display(colors are better than the ones in htc hd2) and the usb host function. Come one guys!
btw, even if this phone cant phone proprely, a fix should come, and it is still a good gps , and media player.
That's if you can find one instore as they sold out of these phones on the Orange website 2 Weeks ago.
Stock instores has been running low aswell, there were only 3 left when I got mine from the orange shop in torquay. Just offering it on contract now afaik
so, the price in UK is 150 pounds (that means arround 180 euros)? i have a friend over there, maybe i can buy another one for my cousin.
i wanted to get one too, but im reading about those flashing rom issues, sounds diffcult, anyone know is there any stock near manchester? the price is really unbeatable 150 pounds thats like 1/3 of some other competitors headset

These were available in Leamington Orange shop last week. I got one from Orange website a few weeks ago, but went into the shop to get one for my girlfriend. Thye are not perfect but still good value considering their usefullness for email, skype, messenger & media player. The main drawbacks I have are:
It's crap as phone: difficult to hear, screen locks annoyingly when you want to use touchpad, when the phone is locked and you get a call, it is impossible to answer. You have to wait till it rings out, unlock the phone then ring them back.
The motion sensor is not v responsive. I dont mind waiting half a second when switching from portrait to landscape, but sometimes it just refuses to switch.
No rdp client. I owuld like this for work, there was one on my PPC2003 devce all those yrs ago. I downloaded the finster rdp client and it doesn't work for me (yes I have installed it to the device rather than the memory card).
You can't get the Micro SD card out without removing the battery (and thereby switching it off)

Is my phone alive????
I went to my bed today and i had £2.50 of credit on my phone, i woke up and i had a message from orange saying that i only had 90p of credit, please top up I am wondering what my phone was doing when i was asleep, i live by myself so i cant blame anyone else, whats going on. This is the umpteen time this has happened.
The only thing i can think of is that it is doing updates without permission, during peak times, if this is the case what can i do to stop this? Any help would be appreciated.

Call your provider and chek if you don't hav any inscription in some service.
It's easy to pud some one in some service without if he know.
In internet is just enter in one site for ex: music then pud in iscription the phone number of someone you hate and that is't.
Now hi has a some service without he know and they pick money every day. Somethink like 10p,20p or 30p every /f/ day.
All my credit was actually gone, so since i have had the phone, start of january, i have seen £4, £1.50 and £2.50 disappear from my original £10 credit. Basically i only use my phone for text messaging and using hotmail. I havent even looked at anything like music, radio etc, never mind subscribing to anything.
On the same day i lost the £2.50 i did instal the gchris 1.2.1 cab, excellent app but could the weather update have cost me the money? Or does the phone actually do updates whenever it wants, ie at peak times without asking
I did a bit of searching and installed nodata.cab and switched of orange intranet but kept orange sms/mms on.
Sorry if i am coming accross as a moaning twat here but this was my last phone, a samsung c300, if it said i had £5 of credit, i could go to sleep and wake up and still have £5 of credit.
Disable the `Orange Internet`, go to Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced tap > Select Networks > Network Management page > use `My Work Network ` on both selections, you should be okay now.
It`s the weather update that cost you so much money.
Don`t use `Orange Internet` or you have to pay for it, use `Active Sync` to update your weather on PC instead.
If you want to use Orange Internet make sure you configure the program to use `Free connection` to update your programs.

The orange store in stevenage has a few of these left, and yesterday they had reduced the phone to £129 PAYG so an even bigger bargain.
Bargain!
I was lucky enough to get the last one of these in stock in Grimsby yesterday for 129.99+10.00 top-up. At least I assume it was the last one, they removed all the 'POS (point of sale)' as I left.
It is better than (most) of the reviews had led me to believe, a bit clunky in places, but at that price a bargain for sure.

Thanks for the hint! Programm worked fine for me.
Can I still buy the TG01 anywhere for that price?
Some smart guys some time ago bought about 10-15 models and after orange discontiued selling they sold it on ebay

GPS has stopped working

I've had my Lumia 800 for a few weeks, however I cant get a GPS fix anymore. Using bing maps, Navigon, Nokia Drive; whichever app I use I cant get any fix whatsoever regardless of how long I try. I can get a fix from the GSM towers but not from the GPS device itself.
I’ve used GPS programs from the marketplace which concur the result, it says that it has attained a fix from the a-GPS but then never gets a fix from the satellite.
Anyone know of a fix? Tried calling Nokia support but they say a firmware fix 'may' get it working again...which I doubt as no-one else seems to be having this same problem
Nokia navigation is still online applications so you need active data connection.
Tried resetting the phone back to its original state?
Tried resetting to factory defaults by going into >>>settings>>>about.
But still no luck.
I understand you need a internet connection for the maps application... however my phone cant get a GPS lock, on nokia drive it routes fine its just that its sporadic as there is no GPS fix and its using a-GPS (GSM Towers) to navigate me.
Think its a hardware fault??
Same problem here
Hi, I have the same exact problem, did you solve it already?
I have a data plan and the gps stopped working without any reason. It won´t work in any app. I´ve been with the phone for a month now.
Thank you.
No its not fixed, I phoned Nokia and they said wait for the next firmware update and if it still does not work they will replace the handset.
You can always force the update with Care Suite, since you've already wiped, you've not got much to lose.
Thanks for answering, guess I´ll take mine to the store tomorrow...not very sure to get a brand new one though.
Just tried a forced Nokia firmware update via NDC and though the firmware and software has been upgraded the GPS still does not work. so will have to call Nokia Care tomorrow.
Sounds like a hardware fault then.
Well, my odyssey begins...neither Nokia or the carrier are going to substitute my faulty phone.
They´ll have to send it to the technicians...
Prior to send it I´m going to wait until the battery drains, and fully charge it again. To see if it magically begins to work properly...
Well Nokia are coming to collect my device on Monday to replace the GPS unit within the device they say its a 7day turn-around.
I went to a Nokia dealer and to VODAFONE. Both said they would collect the phone and send it to me "fixed in 15 - 20 days"...but before giving my unit, I´ve written Nokia Care an email in order to see if they are willing to give a new one.
I´m expecting an answer from Nokia Care this week...
Will keep you informed anyway...
---------- Post added at 01:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:00 AM ----------
Just a quick question...are you formatting your device before giving it to Nokia? There´s a lot of personal info in these devices...
Guess I´ll wipe mine. The problem is that WP can´t export contact info to SIM card so i have a hard task getting all the contacts in for a substitute phone
Stick your contacts on Google/Live and they'll just appear when you sign into a Windows/Android phone.
Okay just had my Nokia Lumia 800 replaced by Nokia Care for the GPS issues....and a 3 day turn around time! Can you believe it???
I am so thrilled with the care and support i received and am not not worried about purchasing furture Nokia phones due to the after-support.
PS. They took my old unit and returned to me a brand spanking new device! Thrilled to say the least.
My GPS suddenly started working today as nothing happened without nobody touching it. Can´t understand a thing.
Hope it stays that way for a long time...

sent euro titan back to htc for repair

alas I have sent my euro titan back to htc repair in Houston to get the gps checked out, after numerous roms including stock roms I was very irritated at how unreliable turn by turn navigation was on my device, there was a time it worked perfectly and then just flat out failed.
I worry though that once htc evaluates it and it does work for them because it does occasionally work but fails more so than not, that they will do nothing for me, I pray for a spanking new titan handset from the phone warranty gods, in the meantime, I am using nokia 2300 dumbphone that looks like a womans lipstick lol, oh how the mighty have fallen sigh
I'm afraid all the,ll do is update the software...
ugh you think so? I had done numerous factory resets various roms and the same gps tracking problem occurred, I want a new phone!
I hope your wishes come true
pray to the phone gods for me love!

Multiple Dropped Calls - Galaxy S9 Plus G965F

I love my new S9Plus, but I am getting increasingly frustrated in the number of dropped calls I am having.
It doesn't seem to matter if I have several bars or only one or two - I am dropping calls at least 8 or 9 times a day. Even when I have 4 bars.
TOday at work I had four bars (download speeds of 26MB down on lte) and I dropped two calls while talking to my wife. Problem enough that I dropped the calls but my wife thinks I hung up on her.
I live in the US and am on ATT if that matters. I have used International Variants on my last four phones and never had this call drop problem before. NEVER.
I first wonder if there is something I can do about this? Is this caused by software or hardware in the phone? is there a way to test t his? (it is hard to anticpate when I will drop calls. I have had some calls last over 10 minutes without dropping and other times in the same location - call drop out after 1 minute.
Anyone else having this problem? Your help and input is greatly appreciated.
Am I the only one experiencing dropped calls? Signal Strength seems ok - but while talking calls just drop off - I watched the signal strength meter go away and instead saw a circle with a link thru it - no signal I guess - (I think my call would have dropped had I been on a call) for no apparent reason -
Anyone else having an issue with dropped calls or am I the only one?
I'm also having drop outs on Vodafone UK. Only happens when I've been on the phone for more then 5 mins
I had bad quality in calls, hardly understood what the other person said; changed the sim card, all ok now.
Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
I have the samsung unlocked version and using Verizon on it, have not dropped any calls yet but it seems very static sounding. I love the phone, and only talk to my wife on the phone, everyone else I just text so not a huge issue with me.
To OP, this used to happen to me on S4/S7 when the phone would switch between LTE/WCDMA when suddenly I would get no network with signal disappearing and dropping calls. A new firmware fixed that issue in one case and in other case had to replace the phone itself. Can you try changing to "GSM only" to see if this is related to VOLTE at all or bands changing between LTS<=>WCDMA?
As for the static in call, it could be due to lack of VoLTE support.
I went to the ATT Store and they mentioned that ATT has been doing someting with enhanced calling stuff - said it might effect me - but I am not sure I get enhanced calling because I am not on a branded phone. I went ahead and got a new sim card thinking maybe that might help. Will see what happens over the next few days.
I do appreciate the comments - hope this is not a phone issue
I'm on T-Mobile and I am experiencing it as well, and no it's not the service as my One plus 5t doesn't drop any calls in the same area, same sim, same service. Even the Wifi was weak.
I did a support call with Samsung and they advised me to return it.. I ordered another one to see if that one is any better... I'm hoping... If not that will go back as well.

I just got my s9 with att today and am in the states. I'm having the same issue. I have also noticed it is super delayed in sending images via text as well.
I have the issues on my s9 on Vodafone UK there is also a post in the s9 forums about it
It's seems to be affecting a few people and it seems global
So let's hope a FW update fixes it and that the update come soon ar I will return the handset
First the finger print sensor issues. Now this!
My one week old s9+ gave me trouble with the fingerprint error that got fixed with the update. But now my device is dropping almost every other call. Short or long it doesn't matter. I could make calls with no drops in the same spot using the same sim card on my s7 edge. Heading to Samsung tomorrow. Not quiet happy! Device is unlocked. Bought directly from Samsung and I live in Bahrain.

Returning mine today one thing I expect a phone todo is make calls. Most other things I can wait to be fixed.
Going back to my oneplus 5t which I actually think is a better phone
Unless you are using an AT&T S9+ (or one running AT&T firmware), you will drop calls on AT&T because they won't let your phone use VoLTE and it will try and drop to HSPA , which is being reduced network wise every day.
Getting the phone replaced with a new one.
I was delayed a couple of days because of work but I went to samsung today and they did extensive system tests that did not show anything more than a simple log that says "call drop due to weak network" which is not the case. However, I asked them to manually check it by making calls and keeping in on speaker and 2 out of 3 calls dropped and they got it recorded on camera. Now I'm waiting for my replacement. Hopefully this was a flaw in the first batch or something as my device was one if the first here in the country. Also I almost missed my 15 days replacement time frame. Otherwise they would've fixed it instead. Pheww what a relief. If you are experiencing this issue run to your closest Samsung service center and get it replaced.

Seriously!! What a disappointment after being excited about being one of the first people to own the device. I had 2 serious issues from the day I purchased it. Fingerprint sensor then dropped calls. My replacement device will be ready for pickup on Saturday. If it works perfectly I'm willing to forgive them. If not I'm going to demand my money back ! I did not pay around 1000$ for the device so I can drive to service center 3 times in 13 days and end up using my S7 edge again!

In the UK they offered to allow me to return it for replacement but would take about 20 days to get another handset so I have returned it for refund
I strongly suspect your replacement maybe the same.. I think it's a software issue that will need a FW update
Still I will be getting my cash back have decided to buy a new rifle instead

20 days!?! That's a long long time. I'd take the money like u did. They promised to give me a new device by Saturday so let's see. Otherwise I will take my money back and hold the purchase. Maybe I'll buy a different device altogether. Which sucks cuz I wanted the s9+ since it was rumored last year! Good luck with the rifle. Don't be shooting no Samsung employees lol
