Looking to Root my EVO View - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Hello, I am a noob and have never rooted a device before. I am trying to root and get the last bit of life from my EVO View 4g from Sprint. There is so much info on your sight, its kinds overwhelming for a noob like me. Can someone help me out with the process if it has been done? Thanks in advance!!

First off (so other trolls don't say it mean) questions like this belong in the Q+A section, its been done theres a multitool in the first post on the dev sections to use and it makes rooting very easy.
Let me just add that HTC devices are not simple to root theres a long process that could be potentially deadly to the device. If you've never rooted anything before I would take extreme caution.

Complete and utter idiots guide to rooting

Well this is not one, but...
I'm not an idiot but I got an X10 via an upgrade I never even knew about "Android" at the time, I just thought it was a phone
Now I would love to root my phone and I read the start of the X10's idiot guide to root thread and I think "yeah I can do that that" then after scrolling down a bit (I've seen the latest updates) I see walls of code for this that and the other!
I'm not a part of the matrix and this code scares the crap out me, the closest I got to seeing anything like that was on the PS1 and Yakoze (sp) and that went bad doing a bouncing ball and I felt proud when I first pressed Ctrl/Alt/Del and Im 33! So do you see my concern?
I've seen all the videos posted on the link but with every update I get more confused
Could this please be a sensible thread on how to/ a guide root the X10 with the latest methods worded in a way so a complete and utter computer illiterate idiot can do the root?
I know this is very bold of me to make my first post on this forum of people that baffle me with their understanding and knowledge of coding (hence my reference to The Matrix as I love the films) but as a complete beginner in these things I would love a simple and understandable way to root and enter the code correctly.
I'm happy to reserve the next post to edit this and post #2 later one, hopefully with a guide written that I can follow and root with and the links to download the latest versions of the "root" and keep it updated when a new process comes up. The second post can be links to videos and other "How to" guides and any add on apps/updates that I will add when I can do them with a written how to from me I'm not an idiot but I have no understanding with these things but I know I can learn itand I love the idea of what I can do to my X10 and what I could do in the future with updates and cooked ROM's if the Gods crack the boot loader... All hail the Dev's!

the latest root method is simple.. even I can understand it and I'm new to the whole android experience.. think you should give it a try!! it just basically running files.. no need to really mess with codes..

I will reserve this. and update it on the weekend. If I succeed in rooting then I will be an Idiot and pure noob in this to do it. I will try to write the step by step instructions on what I did.
just look at them doing it through the videos on youtube afew times, they're fraking idiot proof!

Hi,
I understand you may be feeling a bit scared or worried for attempting this. But 95% of the 'advanced' stuff is happening behind the scenes, hence what the devs were working on in the days between achieving root and releasing root for everyone.
Get SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service), and follow instructions on that to update your phone; that will automatically install the needed drivers.
After that, get the Step1 from the guide, and follow the instruction file in that, to get your 'device ID' and that's the hardest part. After that, just keep following the guide.
If you get stuck, post in here!

Look this is quite simple... root is not for idiots. If you are one... then you should probably not be doing this. Please understand that this is not a personal attack directed at you but at the general noobness surrounding the messages flooding into these forums since root has been released.
I guess most of the hundreds of posts that you see all around in the rooting thread or the many *improved* tutorials out there are not going to help anyone unless they understand some pretty basic concepts.
I mean comon... look at howmany people have have reported "java not recognized as an internal or external command..."
not knowing anything about java, or Android or computers in general is not going to help here.
I really appreciate the efforts that the devs have put into all this already in making the process as easy as possible. All it needs is some basic knowledge of what a batch file is, what a java virtual machine is... what adb is for and it all makes sense.
The rooting process is so flexible and open that anyone with an iota of comprehension of whats going on can tweak the process to his/her liking.
Me personally, I just downloaded the OTA package in the latest update and was up and running in no time. What... no step1, step 2?
Well... no because I understand what these steps mean. Take a pause... read the scripts. Go to the library gets some books, search the internet... take a technical course, learn computer programming and then you will understand.
Making something idiot-proof is unpossible. Everytime you make it easier nature builds a better idiot. It's a neverending battle.

One ROOT to Rule them All??????

Guys, I know you know your stuff and you can really help out a noob like me but............
is there ONE root or page that can have all the required links so I can get this
3D rooted. I've read a few topics and it seems that some Devs have different ways to root and I dont know what CMD is.
I'm coming from the Hero and I learned how to flash to get rooted.
Thanks.

Not really. Its not difficult at all. Just read and it will make sense. Its similar to the og evo root method. Hit the button, flash recovery, reboot.
I Haz 3D
Point is, Just do it. You will learn a lot from just doing while trying not to fathom the "big words" or "strange names" for different stuff. YES, something CAN happen, but usually follow the steps and all will be fine. When I first rooted my first phone I was not really linguistic in the lingo we use now for rooting such devices, it reminded me of the ole AOL WAREZ days and those silly but fun AUto programs we used in the chat rooms. I say... Take the plunge.
EDIT: Don't be lazy (like me) and NOT read it. There is no ONE click easy method if this is your first time. Once you have rooted this phone though your ext and future roots will eb easier and make more since.

[Q] What do I need to know before i root?

I'm thinking about rooting my G2, currently running 2.3.4. I plan on using the method shown here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
But before I potentially brick my phone, as I am a COMPLETE noob, I was wondering if there are any topic I should read first. Things that will help me understand what I'm doing and how to fix common issues I may/will run into. I did some searching for noob guides but they were all phone specific, and I couldn't find anything specific to the G2 for noobs. A dictionary of terms, for example, would be very helpful. Any and all advice and links would be highly appreciate! Thanks in advance.
P.s. Sorry if this was asked a million times. I did search, as i mentioned, but searches yielded 50,000+ results and not much help.
Generally IMO rooting is relatively safe, its more about what you do after rooting your phone where the potential to "brick" it comes about. I.E Flashing Radios ect..
There is plenty of guides going about the net for a whole range of phones, what i done when i decided i wanted to root my phone was read a few articles for my phone make/model and read them all again just to make sure i understood them as i was in a similar position to yourself with very little knowledge about rooting or flashing roms ect..
You should check out other sites as well as this one of course and find one that you feel you can understand, theunlockr.com (just browse the "how to" section for your phone) they have videos (But not all of them work) was a good one for me aswell as using google to look for videos. Another good site is androidforums and not forgetting XDA its self.
Good luck....
You are on the wrong forum. This one is for the HTC Hero GSM, you have a G2 aka Desire Z.
I don't know how I missed that Habarug. Mods please feel free to relocate to the proper section.
Your not the first one gonna contact some mods and ask if they can remove the g2 touch part of the forum name
sent with love from me to you

[Q] Advice not given

Okay. I posted my first ever question/request for advice the other day and, despite 79 views, I have had no response. Perhaps it was too dull for those who are more accomplished with all things Android and everybody assumed that somebody else would answer.
Perhaps within the morass of information on these forums the answers are already out there. Maybe, but who knows. In other forums people tend to at least say - look there for answers - and post a link to another thread. But, it has been Christmas and I guess we are all pretty busy this time of year - Merry Christmas to all by the way
So, I thought I would re-shape my question/needs here.
Could anybody give me, or at least point me in the direction of, a glossary of terms type of thing?
I need to know things like what does 'radio' mean? How does it relate to the 'flashing' process' , And any other terms which people take for granted as being blindingly obvious, but which may not be to those of us very inexperienced. This forum can be quite daunting, but still, enquiring minds wanna know
Any help, again, appreciated.

I would've loved to answer but perhaps you need to be more specific on what you want to be answered
you said you wanted to have 2.3.5 on ur DHD,but that doesn't tell anyone what you are asking for,if you are asking us to find a ROM for you,or how to flash a recovery first,or how to flash the ROM !
You should have to provide us more specific data, phone, model, rooted or stock, etc. It is normal that why you don't get replies.

HI, and thank you. Also apologies for my woolly question. And this is kind of my problem. When new to this even the questions I want answered are not always asked correctly. I was hoping to find a ROM for my Desire HD which has Sense 3.0. I have Gingerbread on the phone currently with Sense 2.1.
To be completely humble and honest, which I find to be the best way in almost all cases, I must say that I am not even sure what "how to flash a recovery" means, or "how to flash the ROM".
So, as you see, I am really new to this and feeling my way around. I am a quick learner though so I really just need bringing up to speed on a few of the basics and then I am sure I will be able to research my way around.
Anyway, thank you for your kind reply. I wasn't trying to be shirty with my post. I meant what I said - it is Christmas and I am sure people look in over the holidays but it is a busy time for everybody. I hope I have not caused offence.
Can I contact you on your email,i find that more easily accessible!

Please read before you do anything at all. From your posts it is plain you are very new to Modding so it is very important you understand what your doing as it void your warrenty and if done wrong can brick your device. Start with the stickies in the DHD section and read those a couple of times. Then check the Q&A and read there as well.
As mentioned, read the stickies in your section, there should be a lot of information there. In my device's subfora, there are great stickies chocked full of information. If we had the same device, I'd post some links for you. There's also a glossary of sorts stickied in the Thunderbolt section. Not everything in it will apply to your device but it may help with some general terms.
Before I even rooted my device, I read all of the stickies and recommended links. I then read over the Q&A and general subfora just to get a feel for it. What I read didn't make a lot of sense at the time, but later I remembered it and it made more sense. I then rooted my device, then read and read and read before flashing my first rom (CM6 - it was a while back).
It's a process, and the more you read the more you'll understand, until eventually you can start answering some of the questions that go unanswered. Just give it time... and make sure that you know exactly what you're doing - and why - before you jump in to something.
Good luck!

Hi there Zendel.
Apologies for the lateness of this reply. Been a busy day. I wanted to say thanks for the advice and to also fill in a couple of blanks, if I may.
You are quite correct, I am very new to modding and my only fear is buggering it up, as we say in Lancashire lol. However, it has already been rooted by a friend who took me through the process over the phone some months ago.
When I first got the phone it was with Orange and had all that Orange junk and splash screen etc. Hence, my friend talked me through rooting and installing a standard factory ROM. It was a lot to take in and, at the time, I didn't make any notes along the way, which would have helped me now - hindsight is a wonderful thing, as they say.
More recently he pointed me at a link to a RUU (is that right?) so that I could upgrade from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1 - so, in a nutshell, void warranty is no longer a concern
I have taken a look at some of the stickies, though I have not studied them intensely at this point. I will spend more time looking however and come back, perhaps, with more questions - or at least more relevant questions I should hope

So, you want us to do all of the searching for you??? Man, you are asking alot here.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &
Read the Forum Rules Ref Posting
Moving to Q&A
You're risking that you brick your phone.
Also, I wouldn't suggest rooting if you don't even know some of the benefits of rooting. If you aren't technically inclined enough to have a reason to want to root, don't root. You're bound to mess something up.

If you're interested in gaining a general base on root, I have a free educational application in the market called "All About Root". It will provide general details to explain terminology, pros/cons, common methods as well as some technical details around setuid/setgid and Linux based permissions.
After gaining a general foundation, it will be easier to learn more specifically about the EVO 3D. This HTC device is more difficult to gain root access on than many other Android devices. With this is mind, the process *can* be safe and easy, BUT for a beginner without a technological/Android/Linux background, it can be very difficult.
Either way, there is no *easy* way to learn as the learning process is different for everybody. Almost can guarantee a lot of reading will be involved with the EVO 3D.
Hope that helps and good luck!
Thank you for app i will read its contnent, and sorry for the wrong section, and i have rooted my old Desire Z with gfree, so i am not a total noob, but my emmc died so yeah.

Good to see a helping hand in here
If a lot of people are not aware.. in the UK there is a very cheap sale for HTC EVO 3D's on the go at present (£229 for a decent sim unlocked phone, which is pretty darn cheap here), so this section is likely to get a lot of new comer's asking questions. Probably better to welcome them than shout at them
i am going to install that app lol. I just want to read what you have written about rooting, and see if it matches what i know
i read the app and as i understand if your hands are growing from the right place there is no riskx but are there problems with this particular phone? and how hard is to unroot for warranty purposes?
