[Q] Phone not recognized by Win7 while bricked, drivers are installed - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I failed a bit yesterday, and managed to brick my phone. Nothing is accessible, except for Download mode.
I thought I'd just flash it again and work from there, but that didn't quite work since the phone was not recognized by the computer.
I am using Windows 7, 64 Bit computer, with Samsung Drivers 1.5.16 (latest).
What I've tried?
Reinstalling the drivers
Installing Kies and trying that
Tried installing drivers while phone was plugged out, as well as in
Tried booting into download mode after plugging it in
Google, google, google
(I've even used this site's search function!)
Is there anything I've missed that causes my computer to not see the device at all?
Thanks in advance,
~Mewn

Usual .

Kies running in background .Drivers wrong / faulty .
Odin wrongly used / download/ recovery wrongly used .
Open Odin locate file to PDA .
Boot phone to download mode then vol up as instructed .
Connect USB cable phone to motherboard USB port .

First of all, thank you for your reply.
Right after I had tried Kies, I uninstalled it (because it didn't work). I only saved the driver software Kies had downloaded.
I tried both front port and straight into the motherboard USB ports (It's currently connected to the Motherboard, actually), seems to make no difference for me.
As for the brick, Yep. Used Recovery mode wrongly. I know how to fix bricked phones, I just don't know how to fix computers not seeing the device. I will try using another USB cable, as you told me too.
Thanks for your help, I will reply with results later.

It's actually a blackberry cable, seems to work fine
The only thing not working is... my phone. PIT partition is broke, no PIT files I can find work on it, I'm pretty much stuck.

Try This
If it will not help you - then look after sudden death case in General section

[Q] UK/Intl i9300 - USB debugging does not set up com port - ODIN does not detect

Hi all
I'm trying to root my UK-purchased i9300 using the cf-root guide here: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/403624/20121110/root-galaxy-s3-i9300-cfroot-official-jellybean.htm
My phone is running the OTA 4.1.1 which came down recently
I have installed the Samsung USB drivers from the above URL, which comes up as "Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones v1.3.850.0".
When I hook the phone up with USB debugging mode enabled, Windows 7 picks it up as a mass storage device only. No virtual com ports are configured which I suspect is why ODIN does not detect anything.
Could someone help me out please?
Thanks
Okay so installing the proper KIES + drivers now seems happier. Bear this in mind folks.
edit: Happier as in if the phone is booted up ODIN can now connect to it..
However, it's still not working when the phone is in Download mode.

Hi
I had a similar issue which seemed to resolve by starting the ODIN program first and then connecting the phone to the PC in download mode and then it was detected

Turn Kies off in task bar.
Download required firmware /file.
Open Odin load firmware /file .
turn USB Debugging OFF
Boot phone to download mode .
Plug in Samsung USB cable to a motherboard port only .
Flash.

Thanks, that doesn't work for me. I have a feeling it's this specific computer which is causing the issue so I will try another one this evening.
Using zadig.exe, it does not show the device at all when in download mode, but shows it fine in normal mode.
Had no problems with using a different machine. This problem was specific to one computer. Got to love Windows quirky USB sometimes.
Thanks for your replies folks.

[Q] Problems after screen replcement

Hi
I have replaced my screen on my i9305 and i have lost my imei number. I have found threads on how to restore this but when i plug my phone into the laptop it is not recognized but just charges. I have tried different computers and have tried options found on different threads but still cant find a solution.
The phone is running 4.1.1 and is totally standard as bought.
Are there any options left for me?
Cheers
You simply restore your backed up EFS folder .
No connection suggests bad cable bad port on phone or no USB drivers on PC .
Or pay for a service repair .

Try it on someone else's computer, I kept running in to issues, and changed the USB port I was using, removed SD card, unplugged USB cable after I got the "PASS!" message in Odin.
Additionally ensure you have the right files

disconnect internet
Make sure you are in odin mode on the device. I came from HTC One and didn't put my device in Odin mode. Duh.. right? lol.
You can get into Odin mode by doing "adb reboot-bootlaoder"
for the best results:
1.use an official Samsung cable
2. unplug all unneeded usb devices
3.reboot into download mode again
4.connect to a usb 2.0 port on the back of the pc
5.run odin as an admin
if that dose not work, make sure kies is removed, and re-install the Samsung drivers,
reboot pc, and try again.
solved similar problem...
reboot your phone into download mode, but yet not proceed, plug into pc, open odin (as administrator), put the firmware files in their respective places, and finally press vol up to proceed in download mode and press start, it must solve, if all else does not help .. hugs
Hope this helps, if so please press "thanks" ..

Do one thing when you are trying to connect in downloading , just make sure kies is not running at background.
Thing is kies blocks that connection which you are trying to make. It worked for me as well. All the best.

This worked for me after having so many problems. Nobody was clear on how to fix it. I had soft bricked my phone. It wouldn't connect to Kies or allow any pit or rom being flashed to it. Everything would fail. I tried doing what you said and it worked. I always got the errors 'No pit partition' etc.
I plugged in the USB without the battery in.
Phone wouldn't switch on into recovery without battery in so I put it back in.
I then took it out and Odin wouldn't connect to it and start the process without the battery in so I put it back in.
I loaded up the pit file and started it! You should have seen my face! haha! It worked!
It booted up! Hooray!
I switched it off and booted it in recovery mode.
Installed new rom (hopefully this won't break)
Thank goodness for that. I feel your pain guys. If you need any help just message me.

Thank you! Worked perfectly.
Issue Solved = Simple Solution
As stated above:
plug in the USB cable - Then Press Volume "UP"
So friggin simple, why isn't this included in All the Instructions??
Switch off the device.. Boot in download mode and then click on start at odin
immediately start downloading !!
worked for me! !

[Q] Galaxy S3 no longer detected!

Hi everyone, I have a biig problem: my s3 stopped being detected by my computer.
I took off the Hard Disk from my pc for two days and I used it as a slave on another pc. Yesterday I put it back on my pc and my s3 isn't detected anymore. It's weird because I used eclipse and usb debugging everyday in the last few moths, so it worked completely fine.
I tried to uninstall drivers and install again - nothing changed. I tried to install/reinstall kies, change cable, change usb port and no luck.
I thought my phone was the problem so I connected it to a laptop and it worked! it was detected!
If I connect another phone to my pc it is detected, so it's just a problem between my pc and my s3.
I also tried to wipe cache/wipe dalvik.
I'm desperate cause I'm a developer, I need my phone to being detected!
Thanks in advance!

I already installed them! I'm going to think it's a pc problem, but it's weird that it detects every phone but my s3, isn't it?
I just noticed that also OTG doesn't work anymore... so it could be a phone problem, but it is detected from other laptops!
I'm confused
Use mainboard USB port .
Use USBDEVIEW tool to remover drivers from the port then clean install of drivers .

Still no luck man it keeps looking like it's wall charging!
same problemm with my..... when i connect my mobile to pc , it behave just like wall charger. but today suddenly it also stop charging too.
but when i put my phone into download mode it detects with my Pc. but still not connecting in normal mode...........
Is it charging jack problem or else....
Try booting a live Linux(don't forget to add the udev rules and restarting udev) and see if your phone gets detected.

Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 softbricked, no recovery and not connecting to pc only download mo

The problem begins when I flashed custom recovery using Flashify app on my rooted stock device. It makes device soft bricked.
and it not allowing me to go into recovery mode! But I could go through download mode easily so I tried to flash new recovery using odin. :fingers-crossed:
But when i plug phone into the usb port( tried all of them ) I realized that my pc not detecting my phone neither any sound of connecting nor any notification. I've checked many times i installed proper driver as well. I tried to check any hardware change on driver manager but nothing comes up. I tried couple of pc, windows 7 and 10, and bunch of usb cables but still no success. Please help me!
Sounds like the USB port may be damaged. Does it charge?
having the same problem :/

Thanks for responding and Yes it's charging! But I don't think that usb port could be the culprit cause I can connect & use another device easily through them!
