[Q] ROMs/AC!D Audio Engine/Root questions - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
this is my first post here and im new into Android world, not even a month with my S3, have a bit of patience, sorry if im going to make such obvious questions that sound a bit "stupid" to experienced users, but i need to know exactly what to do, and i have to understand
first of all i like reading, i already took a look at about twenty different ROMs/ and read about Root.
i think you'll need my device infos:
Samsung Galaxy S3 - I9300 - Not Rooted
Stock Firmware 4.1.2 - Stock Kernel
AP: I9300XXELL4
CP: I9300XXELL4
CSC: I9300OXXELK4
BUILD VERSION: JZO54K.I9300XXELL4

here are my questions, ill try to explain better as i can:
read about some ROMs that add sound plugins like Dr.Dre Beats/Sony Xperia, can i get same results as these ROMs installing AC!D Audio Engine?
in order to install AC!D Audio Engine, have i to root my device?
do i need to install TriangleAway in order to use my rooted device?
i read about red ! mark issue on new firmwares/bootloaders, will i get that if ill root my device?
i read about twenty ROMs changelog/feedback, if ill decide to install one, i dont know which one to start, candidates are: Omega - Jelly BAM - Android Revolution HD 18. can you help me getting the right one?
some ROMs install custom kernel while others prefer using the stock one. can i install ROM with stock kernel?
do i need to install a custom recovery? i read TriangleAway developer said he's moving away from custom recovery because not so compatible with ROMs
thank you for your time and for helping me
EDIT:
reading about eMMC bug, tried eMMC bugcheck app, it shows:
Phone Model
samsung m0xx
eMMC Chip
VTU00M
07/2012
0xf1
BrickBug?
No, Sane chip.

reading here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096045 only VTU00M 0xf1 2012/04/13 are bugged, so mine is okay because is 07/2012 isnt it? moreover app shows "No, Sane chip", right?

No its not the same otherwise it would be called the same .
But you may or may not get better sound .
in order to install AC!D Audio Engine, have i to root my device?
What do the instructions say ???
As it modifies system files and is flashed via CWM recovery then you have to be rooted .
do i need to install TriangleAway in order to use my rooted device?
TA is not root
i read about red ! mark issue on new firmwares/bootloaders, will i get that if ill root my device?
Possible

What rom best rom posts are banned on XDA choose one you understand .

You can flash a stock kernel if you wish .
do i need to install a custom recovery?
Yes thats in the instructions .
i read TriangleAway developer said he's moving away from custom recovery because not so compatible with ROMs
That is root not recovery .
Basics faqs and guides you need to read first .

You can only flash a P rom unless you find evidence to the contrary . Most roms are for i9100 version .
Or be a guinea pig and try .

thanks for the info, i think i'll leave it for now i dont want to brick my phone :L
You can flash 9100 ROM on your 9100P
But 9100 ROMs don't support NFC module (it will be supported natively with ICS).
I have the same device (orange FR) and you can look my signature for working Radio + ROM...

I dont remember
But if your device is already rooted you can install Rom manager or CWM from the market and make a backup of your config. Then reboot in CWM and install what you want (read the how to install section of the wanted rom).
Don't care about your "P" version!
What you read here for standard device (i9100) is working for your P version.

Don't use Rom Manager, use Clockwork. Rom Manager seems to not work well with the SGS2, this forum is littered with posts from people who used Rom Manager to flash and it broke CW Recovery, put the phone into a bootloop or soft brick, etc, etc.
Best to play it safe IMHO.

Oh I didn't know that rom manager was not working fine on our device. I am using clockwork manager and it is working fine.
I've seen a heap of posts in the couple of months I've been visiting this forum from people who ended up with broken CW Recovery & bootloops after using the Manager app.
I used it once to try and flash a kernel & it broke recovery completely.
Obviously any/everyone's mileage may vary, but for me, I'd rather play safe & boot into Recovery whenever I flash or backup.

so if i shouldn't use rom manager, what should i use ?
Didn't say you shouldn't use it Just said that plenty of people have had problems using the app, and rather than risk it, since I had that problem with it, every time I've done a backup or flashed a rom/kernel I've rebooted into recovery & used CW Recovery itself to do the business
As I said in my previous post, your mileage may vary & you may not have any problems with it at all.

so is rom manager the only way to install cwm without flashing a different kernel ?

Hello guys! I have a GT-I9100P also with the latest BVKL2 2.3.6 firmware. I had it rooted when I was at BVKI3 2.3.4 firmware and now I am looking for a good CF-ROOT kernel for my phone. What would you recommend me? (what if I tell Chainfire to make a CF-ROOT more appropriate to my kernel)?

Why don't you post in Chainfire's thread to ask him about making an insecure KL2 kernel?
But I think you can use the insecure KL1 kernel from Chainfire's thread to use for root. Or you could flash SpeedMod or Siyah, and the rooting will happen for you. You have lots of options.
were to put the rom zip file
I got the exact same phone as the OP im trying to flash a rom in a zip format but clockwork mod recovery cant find the file ive looked in install from sd card and install update.zip. ive also tried installing it through rom manager, no joy there, inside rom manager i chose to boot into recovery to flash it manually and now i got a black screen with a white triangle n a lil green android dude so i see what people are saying about the s2 and rom manager, anyways my question is were do i place the zipped rom? on the internal or external and should i rename the rom file?
Ive had 2yrs experience with a HTC HD2 so im not exactly a noob to flashing roms, but the galaxy s2 is very new to me.

Your obviously new at this since you took a legit picture of your screen instead of a screen shot. BEFORE you go flashing **** (yeah its called flashing not burning) please do your self a favor and read a prepared forum for your issue
Start with this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134290
weell first of all, search for the forum rules. you don't wanna get buried your self with lacive comments about your post. thats a nice way to start! you need to know that you'll have a looooot of things to read! so don't be a lazy a** and read and use the search button! in this forum you'll find almost everything that u'll need to flash your rom. you can start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1648351 and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473577
there are a few thing that u must know before getting started:
first: as long as it is a rom/kernel prepared for gt-I9100 (not I9100G) you can flash any kernel or rom.
second thing you must know, is that there are 2 diferents roms and kernels:
-Sammy
-AOKP/AOSP
-Sammy roms/kernels are the one based in samsung releases. everytime you have a sammy rom and you want to change it kernel, you must flash a sammy kernel
-AOSP/AOKP roms/kernels are one based in AOSP or AOKP releases (two teams that are dedicated to create roms as far as possible from samsung releases, so they wont have samsungs specials apps and so...) the kernels must be for aosp or aokp.
There are a few kernels that are compatibles with both roms like SIYAH kernel for example.
as long it is a kernel for their respective rom base(samy or aokp/aosp) you can flash any kernel that you want. try them, they are all different in terms of battery life and hardware managment. (be aware that sammy's STOCK kernels released from july to forrward they are dangerous and can brick your phone). what do i mean by stock? are the one that are just exactly as they were released.no modification in it by any dev. the ones that were modificated by any dev they are probably safe...check out before flashing anyway.
well..knowing this bases now you can start by rooting your phone.
rooting your phone allows you to get full control of your phone. and access to many thing that you could not access if your phone is unrooted.
first of all u'll need ODIN. Odin is a desktop software for flashing your device.
here you'll find some thing about what's ODIN and what brings a rooted kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134290
here you can have the files and the guideing necessary to root your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
well i think that here u have all the info necesary to root your phone...and for choosing a new rom/kernel of your wish!
any thing else? just ask me!
and please hit the thanks button if i helped you!!
Pre-heat your oven to 220° and then bake the phone for at least 40 minutes

questions before rooting

hello ,
before I wrote this thread I read a lot about rootinf roms kernels radio and mpds
I just want to make sure I understand before I root or I need to read more before I root.
1. there is a method of rooting woth cf root which grant su and keeps kernel and rom stock
(in this state after I root and reboot can I delete apps I couldnt before like embeded apps?)
2. choose my room jely bean and jely bean kernel
3.flash rom (I ll do wipe)
4.flash ne kernel
questions
do I have to flash rom and kernel or in the rom there is the suited kernel for the rom??
what about the radio and modem will they be deleted after I flash or the stock modem and radio will stay??
because I dont want connection problems or wifi problems or signal issues
I have hissing sounds and I know its a known problem when listening tp music , which rom/kernel solve this annoying problem
does omega 27 suppory hebrew ?
I am not going to flash every weekend a new rom so which rom is stable and have auto updates( not neccesry)
thanks for reading and answering to a newcomer

YES all methods .
ROOT

(in this state after I root and reboot can I delete apps I couldnt before like embeded apps?)
With a root explorer file manager yes .
2. choose my room jely bean and jely bean kernel
No JB kernel yet only stock or Siyah Beta
3.flash rom (I ll do wipe)
4.flash ne kernel
As you already have kernel in the rom you can flasj a kernel again .
questions
do I have to flash rom
All in one .
what about the radio and modem will they be deleted after I flash or the stock modem and radio will stay??
Radio ???? Modem remains the same unless rom has a different modem .
I have hissing sounds and I know its a known problem when listening tp music , which rom/kernel solve this annoying problem
Stock not siyah .
does omega 27 suppory hebrew ?
Read the thread .

None/all best rom what rom posts are banned .
Flash the one that you understand the instructions for .
Auto updates no custom rom has them .
If you flash a custom or a different region stock rom you will lose Samsung OTA and Kies updates .

many tweaks come with the ROM, many you will flash yourself...it depends on what you want and what you have..
ok if I add tweaks could it damage the rom (meaming there is capabilty restriction)

Look, we aren't here to hold your hand.
You need to start reading/researching and learning
Any mod that isn't in a ROM that you want to use - that mods thread will tell you if its compatible, it will also probably give you a return to original file to flash as well
Choose a ROM, flash it, see what mods it has and then decide if you want to flash more - again, read everything first
I know you are not supposed to hold my hand but I prefer to ask stupid questipn instead of a brick galaxy
all of your answers gavr me the confidence and I am ready

[Q] Install CM10 with a 4.0.4 LQ6 stock ROM

Hey XDA !
I've just installed the 4.0.4 ROM from Free (French operator), and I'd like to root it. I tried to with the non-PC solution, but it failed (no service). I learned that I had luck that my phone didn't brick. So, I'd like to know how to root it, and install CM10 on it (I tried to install CM10 too, but I had a keyboard issue on every ROM, and I don't think it came from the ROM itself).
So, how do I do it ?
Thanks
iSteelZ
flash siyah 4.1.5 kernal to give you dual boot cqapability then follow instructions in the cm 10.
there are numerious threads on dual booting in this forum.
Do I have to keep dual boot ? Can't I just have CM10 ?

Yes.
Just flash the kernel then factory wipe and install your rom via recovery.
This is same process as any other flash, these "how do I flash" threads are silly and have no purpose as they already exist in abundance if you would look and read stickies/guides etc.
I know it must be very boring to always see posts like mine, but I already bricked my phone, I don't know how, and I don't find any topic on how to install it, only on Galaxy Note.
And my version is the LQ2, not the LQ6 (this is my modem).

Not only boring, but it's against the rules, because if you search a bit better there actually are guides for rooting, also via google if you can't find them on xda.

question regarding root methods

since im new to android i would like to know some information from u guys
From what i have read since now i haven't understood the difference between cf-root and cf-auto-root. Is it possible someone to clarify some basic questions to me?
1) When do we use cf-root and when cf-auto-root?
2) Do they need custom recovery files installed ?
3) Which one is recommended under what circumstances ?
4) I have read something about flash counters. Which one of the two methods messes up with them ?
5) I ve read something about locked boot loaders. Which one is not compatible with them and how can i determine if i have one on a stock non-rooted phone ?
BTW i own a galaxy s3 (GT-i9300 & Android version of 4.1.2)
I know its a lot of questions im throwing here but i would appreciate any help that i could get.
Thank you.

1) When do we use cf-root and when cf-auto-root?
=> If I remember well, the difference is the included/excluded custom recovery, hence if you want a customer recovery use cf-root, if you want to keep your stock one, use cf-auto-root
2) Do they need custom recovery files installed ?

see my asnwers to 1 - 3) above in the quote, for 4 & 5 I am not 100% sure, hence I do not want to give you advice there but the forum got a lot of people that know that stuff for sure
4) both
5) in general, you do not have locked bootloaders in I9300.
additionally, I'd not recommend you to flash anything which does not contain SDS fix. Effectively, as Chainfire abandoned some parts of the project, and as recovery includes kernel - I'd not flash CFrecovery now, but I'd look for something newer.
