Please let me know if this is right... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Recently, I made a dumb and tragic mistake of flashing a kernel from N7000, which is the International version of Samsung Galaxy Note 1, on my I717, which is the AT&T version. I had to send it in to Josh at MobileTechVideo in Texas for jtag repair. I am hoping to get mine back from him by end of next week (Feb 8th) at the latest.
Anyhow, I am currently planning what I should do once I get my Note back.
From what I understand, when Josh sends it back, it will be able to get into the download mode. I am not sure if I will be able to get into cwm recovery anymore???
Should I use odin to flash just the ATT stock kernel and reboot the Note? Or, should I flash the whole ATT stock rom?
Maybe Josh will include a nice instruction on what needs to be done???
Has anyone else have an experience with Josh/MobileTechVideo?

From what I've heard, it should come back to you with the stock rom already loaded.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app

It will be at&t stock ICS 4.04 with the stock 3e recovery. There won't be any instructions, only your invoice.
It would be as if you received a refurbished phone from at&t.

Thank you gentlemen!

If you're unsure of something, even after reading the OP, open a thread. I know some things aren't documented as well as they could be. And stay away from any universal stuff.
One guy borked his phone and JTAG 'd it three times.

I wish they made a better use of stickies here to warn users of the potential dangers, espeically if you are new to Samsung devices. The Note is my 2nd Samsung device (after the Galaxy S 2 Skyrocket) and this is the first time I have ever bricked a phone.
I will stay away from the so called "Universal" kernels and stuff from now on.
It will be painful to have to send your phone away for repair three times; once is enough for me.
Thanks a million!

Just to give an update...
Josh at MobileTechVideo received my bricked Note on Monday, 1/28/2013, repaired it and sent it back on Wednesday 1/30/2013. He shipped it via USPS First Class. According to the usps.com, ETA is Saturday 2/2/2013. Since I will be out of town over the weekend, I will have my Note on Monday 2/4/2013. That's a fast turn-around, I was expecting a 10-business day before I can get my hands on it.
If you guys want, I will keep posting updates when I receive it.

So here is my final update the whole saga of my bricked i717:
USPS surprised me by delivering my note yesterday morning--their original eta was 2/2/2013, which would be today.
I was going to post a new update as soon as I got it back; however, once I had it in my hand, I got carried away, having fun with my resurrected note.
Thanks and kudos to Josh @mobiletechvideos for repairing it.

so i had a long post typed out and my browser decided to go back and delete it. long story short bricked my vibrant with gb bootloader and kies update and need to know if this -> http://droidangel.blogspot.com/2011/05/how-to-make-samsung-galaxy-s-download.html will work. please help and thanks to all especially woodrube and noob_in_need as they always have an answer in my posts.
Probably not. If you have a bootloader mismatch then you need a jtag flash.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
You could try it. However like bfranklin said, when your bootloaders get messed up it usually takes a JTAG to get it resolved. Although that could fetch up to $40 or so you should have a fully functioning Vibrant again. Mobiletech JTAG service; http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-vibrant-jtag-brick-repair/

Ya. Unfortunately a jtag does seem to be in your future. Sucks. Sorry about that man. But one question. Why on earth were you using kies? It is known to brick devices.

well in my original post i explained it but it got erased lol i have a froyo odin file saved on my computer at home but im at my girlfriend and i was gettting non stop fcs on my phone and messaging apps and couldnt do anything. so i odined back to eclair but forgot i had gb bootloader and i tried to kies update. all went well till i got back up here and the phone "rebooted" and wouldnt do anything. i then knew immediately what i did and now it sucks haha guess a new phone is in my future i kind of wanted the sgs 2 so i might get it with sprint, i hate tmobiles data and i dont really get service anywhere in concord nh or my girlfriends house pittsfield nh no service at all. if i do get an new phone i may donate it to someone who wants it and can use it to develope etc with it. anyways thanks guys and also any way i can find a good site/store etc that wont rip me off in price or steal my phone? (im paranoid lol) and link/store name please?
I sent you a PM.
so there may still be hope for my vibrant. as a last resort i called tmobile customer care and explained that kies bricked my phone. the tmo rep told me hes had this conversation a few times and that if i call samsung and explain tt i got this phone used from a friend and updated with kies and it randomly bricked (we all know that it didnt really RANDOMLY brick...) that they MIGHT give me an out of warranty replacement and that i should try it before anything. also my dad says he would give me the 40 to get it replaced if i really want it and can wait a week or two, but if i cant fix it, get a replacement, or 40$ for jtag id be glad to send it to woodrube as hes helped me a ton, has been nice about helping with all the noob questions i had, and he asked politely for it while trying to help ill keep you posted and ill have an answer by friday ( 5 days) for ya woodrube. anyways thanks for the support guys helps alot to have some feedback
-Edit- so i called samsung and theyre gonna do an out of warranty software reflash. he said what happened was that the internet connection hiccupped while updating causing a bad flash. i went with it lol so sorry wood for now i cant send this phone but if i get a new phone and you still need it youll be first on my list.

*Bricked* Galaxy note, after wrong rom install

Hey guys, first post, first real major issue I've encountered well rooting a phablet.
I have a ATT galaxy note, yesterday I rooted it and installed the Saurom ROM, everything was a breeze, I decided to try out ICS, I accidentally installed Criskelo onto the device before finding out it wasn't okay for the ATT note.
It hung on installing the rom itself and so I removed the battery imagining I could just revert to Saurom til I found a new ICS rom. But after I interuppted the ROM from installing, I get NO POWER! No download mode, nothing whatsoever on the screen =[ I'm ultra sad, best solution I find for the note is possibly a USB jig but I don't know if it will bring me back from this...
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED! I'm sitting here with a bricked note and a broken heart.
Don't be heartbroken just yet. This just happened to a friend of mine with his Note. I'm sending him your way. He's working today so I doubt he can get to you right away but I'm pretty sure he has the answer you need.

Have you tried accessing the phone with odin to see if it shows up there?
did you install CWM prior to flashing? try the three button combo to boot into recovery
did you backup prior to flashing ICS?

Some ROMs can damage the device's onboard flash. Surprisingly the Note is one of the few devices that you can actually physically break by flashing the wrong ROM.

You may need to contact mobile tech videos and get jtag unbricking service.
A bad flash happened to me in my first week of owning the phone so I was under the 30 day return policy with AT&T. I told them I was updating apps in the market, it got super hot, shut off, and would not power up.
They couldn't get it to turn on either, for obvious reasons, and they exchanged it no further questions asked. Hopefully your still in the return period.

I'm sorry to say you probably have a hard brick on your hands. There's more info in this thread. I did the same thing myself. studacris's answer is the only option, you'll need to send it to someone who can do a JTAG repair on it, or you need to hope it's under warranty and send it back to AT&T and tell them that it just plain broke.
All notes are under warranty from Samsung still. They are for a year of purchase date. note has not been out a year.
Normally when I've had a a phone brick on me or a friends phone when out of the 30 day period, I would call 611 and have them send me a phone and when I received the new one I would mail the bricked one. It wasn't a big issue since the phones have manufacture warranties. Now they opened a device support center near buy and you can go and get a new one that same day.

question for the OP's question, Samsung has that flash counter on the phone, I'm assuming with a bad flash like this it doesn't go up. But does it? And it if does, would Samsung be able to tell what happened? I know Samsung has a hard stance on flashers. To OP, I did the same thing, and I resorted to getting the JTAG thing done, the few places I've came across won't charge unless they can fix it. And they only charge like $50.
I tried jtag. Waste of money. They could not save my phone, plus they charged me $30 for looking at it.
Not to mention I lost out on my shipping.

The last resort is to try a Jig to force download mode. If that fails, you are done. You can look on your PC in the Device Manager. In there it will show you an "state" when you connect the device trying to get into Download Mode. Google that state. I am guessing you are getting the bad one which at this time is a device exchange.

I surrender. Who wants 50$ for an hour?

I won't brick my phone again. It's a SGH-I717R (Rogers). It was loaded back with AT&T 4.0.4 after it was unbricked but I've lost data signal, no internet (WIFI was OK). I've tried to root it again and now, I can only go to the Samsung logo... (Smell of burned fuses) At least, I can boot the download screen. I only see 2 choices. I put it on eBay like that or somebody logs of my laptop with Teamviewer and do it for me. I'll pay 50$, via your Paypal account after a full successful upgrade. So, who's the first one interested to help me to get it back to work with JB? Don't really care about the ROM, the only real options I want is Sphere, fast interface and stability. Thanks.

PS I want somebody who KNOWS what to do. Means experienced.

Start over. Use the "Return to Stock" thread to return the phone to then state is was in when you got it...minus the burnt fuse smell, and any damage to the hardware. Re root it, reinstall CWM, then flash JB.
I don't know what you were doing to the phone, but I believe the Note came out Feb 27 (???) of last year, which could mean your warranty expires in just days, or a couple months from now at the least. If its fried, but doesn't have water or drop damage l, it could be defective...if that's the case, return to stock and send it in to Samsung for a warranty replacement.
If it really does smell burnt, companies have an extreme interest in their own combusting products. Call up Samsung.

The lack of patience is why I didn't wait more than a day before sending it lol. I'll keep ya posted for sure. If it works, i'll tell you exactly what I did to mess it up as bad as I did.
I think you'll be fine. Like three years ago when I was a android rookie I had brick my vibrant and couldn't figure out how to fix it. It was rooted and bricked and I couldn't fix it so I said **** it and I sent it to samsung on the hopes they wouldn't discover my unlawfulness. Well two weeks after I got it back fresh in a new box. Perfectly fixed.
Also one time I had an iPhone 3gs that was jailbroken but the screen was broken and wouldn't recognize any touching on it. So I just handed it to the guy and he couldn't slide to unlock it to check it out so they gave me a refurbished one without even checking if I had messed with it. Got lucky on both days I guess haha :good:

I sent mine out monday morning, got there today. Its already fixed and being sent out today, should be back by monday.I soft bricked mine trying to achieve root and it wouldn't boot passed the samsung galaxy mega statup. They fixed with just a stock firmware update, which I could of done myself if I had the stock odin firmware tar file,o well at least it ffixed and ill have it back within 7 days, not bad thought it would take at least two weeks

Maaaaaaan I've been checking on this crap every day lol. On Friday afternoon I got a call saying that my LCD was damaged and had to be replaced. That fee was $200, but I raised hell for like 30 minutes telling them to just use my old LCD because it still worked and I just wanted my phone reflashed. Needless to say, my LCD was replaced free of charge and that I should have my phone back by Friday 11-1-13 or before. This was on Friday and I called yesterday and they couldn't tell me anything because there were no updates in the system. I checked today and still no updates in their system.
Side note: Did you see a message in Kies saying that the firmware was now available for our device? I swear I saw something to that effect the last time I got on my computer. Would that help you out at all?
ODIN flashable firmware is my last hope, i suspect it will work, but only time will tell. I keep searching, checking sammobile, but nothing yet.

Defective s4

Very sad my launch day s4 with custom firmware has taken a crap on me. The handset speaker has crapped out and no sound is coming out at all. I didnt drop it or get it wet it just went out and I believe it's still under manufacturer warranty. Will I have to send it to Samsung or can I take it directly to Verizon? If I have to send it to Samsung I would almost rather file an insurance claim so I wasn't out my phone for 3 or 4 days. Thanks guys.

Not completely understanding your post. Are you saying you have loaded a custom ROM? If you did any customization to the phone, it does technically violate the warranty and VErizon doesn't have to honor it if they see it. Why people try to return the phone to original state of no rooting, no custom recovery and stock base.

I didnt ask how to return it to stock. I could understand your frustration if I had bricked it and am trying to remove root so they'd take it back, but that's not the case. My speaker failed and it was not caused by the rom. For the rest of this thread let's pretend my phone is completely stock. All I was asking if Verizon will swap it out or if I have to send it back to Samsung for warranty purposes.

when ME7 was first sent OTA I let it update not realizing what was going to happen. I immediately called VZW and said my battery was getting really hot when I was charging the phone, they overnighted me a refurb (with MDK). I think if it's within a year you can go into the store (or by phone) and they should change it out for you with a refurb. Do you pay for the monthly extended warranty service?

I just had to return my S4 to Samsung for a defective proximity sensor. I set it all up through the online chat on Samsung's website. After verifying my phone was still under warranty, they emailed me a shipping label and everything at no cost to me. So if Verizon won't hook you up at least Samsung will. Good luck with your return, just really sucks that now you will lose that sweet unlocked bootloader for no fault of yours.
