Twrp won't back up boot.img only data and system - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I really need help, recently my twrp won't back up the boot.img so I can't restore any of my nandroids, has this ever happened to anyone else and do you know how to fix it. Yea I make sure there is a check in front of boot also, I even unchecked it and rechecked it... please help me

your boot.img isnt modified from a rom so just grab it from the .zip file and put it in the backups folder for your respective backup with the proper file name and it'll restore just fine

yep i'm strating to think its my sd card, i formatted it and now its sticking... idk how long it will work tho

What firmware are you using, and what version of TWRP? I had some issues yesterday with 2.4+, and I would've been stuck if not for my S-Off status. I took the new OTA to experiment and quickly realized that it doesn't behave nicely with the older versions of TWRP. 2.3.1 was the most stable for this device for me.

Well chances are that your good to go. However if you suspect that its your sd then I'd recommend getting a new one as soon as you can just to avoid the risk of this issue happening again. Amazon always has good deals "imo". Nevertheless Glad you got it solved.

Need help ASAP

Alright i need help badly. I consider myself an advanced noob in installing roms and kernals on a phone. I have the rezound. I unlocked it about a week about and went through the step by step instructions. I installed ziggys kernal. I was getting some bootloops but not to many until this morning. My phone kept bootlooping. I would take the battery out and put it back and it would do it again. I tried wiping the date cache and dalvik. Nothing. I then formatted all to ext3. After i did that it said i need to install a rom. I try to restart my phone and it just stays on the HTC screen. I tried to do the factory restore. Nothing. I have to put my sd card in after i get into recovery because when i go to the bootloader screen the HBOOT does something and then asks me if i want to do an update. I tried and hit yes and it did it then reboots but nothing. When i hit no it just wants me to reboot my phone, which does nothing for me. As it is right now my phone wont load. it just stays on the HTC screen. HELP please

I would try that but my phone will not boot. it will not go past the HTC start up screen

The other half of the problem is that it sounds like he formatted ext3 and wiped his ROM. So, he'd have to reboot back into recovery and restore a backup or drop a new ROM on the phone via USB.
Grab the RUU and start all fresh again.

Good Luck
This is one of the reasons I have not tried to hack this device. Although I may unlock/root my Rezound I'm not in a hurry to. It's really a great device. Just too expensive for me to maybe mess up. Especially since its our own fault if we do. Can't blame the carrier/manufacturer for not paying to fix/replace either. Hopefully you get it fixed soon. I know I wouldn't want to have to go through all that either.
i just installed the CleanRom. Ill let you know if this works

You need to reflash the kernel in order to get wifi to work.

The answer should be in the CleanRom thread but as far as I know if you flashed Ziggy's Kernel, you should reflash it and that should solve the problem.
Oops, just noticed this was already answered.

It shouldn't. You can't brick with unlock S-On. If you can get to HBOOT, you are fine. And there is no way to overwrite HBOOT yet.

And does it need to be said that this phone has been out for less than a month? Maybe we should give the devs a chance to work out the kinks before we start flashing.
I *really* miss WiFi tethering that I used to do with my DInc, but I am not about to root in the first two weeks of ownership before I see good, dependable feedback from the community.
I love this phone too much.

Not trying to knock you but I don't see the point in waiting. Flashing a rom is fairly straightforward and even flashing kernels is for the most part. I had an Incredible prior to this and I am absolutely in love with my phone...that's why I read how to do things properly and learn from others mistakes.
Take the plunge! It's great on the otherside

There is a wifi tether app that doesn't require root. Koush is the dev. I tried it and it worked. That was the only thing I would have needed root for also. You should be able to find it if you search for it. If not, I'll find the link.
Edit: I found the link

[Recovery Flashable] Nandroid Helper for the Rezound

As you guys know, we can't flash boot images directly from Recovery. This makes restoring nandroid backups more difficult.
Well, not anymore. This flashable allows you to restore the boot image from a nandroid backup directly from recovery. For those of you who are experts, this duplicates the functionality of "fastboot boot recovery.img" in a self-contained zip.
To Use:
1) Flash the attached zip file
2) Press Volume UP when prompted at HBOOT
3) Reboot the Device (it will probably ask you to press power to do so)
NOTE: If the device doesn't reboot on its own, reboot "normally" not into recovery. It will take you to recovery automatically. If you go into recovery via the HBOOT menus, you still won't be allowed to restore boot images.
4) Restore your nandroid and with its boot image. It will flash this time
5) Done.
How it works:
1. Dumps your recovery image
2. Zips it into a viable PH98IMG.zip and drops it on your SD card
3. Downgrades your main version
4. Reboots to HBOOT so you can flash it
5. You then boot into unprotected recovery.
Haha I had an issues yesterday that this would have fixed. You do amazing work con, keep it up! We appreciate it!!!!!

Good to get a confirmation that it works.
So we use this any time we restore a nand correct?
yep. It just allows Recovery to flash the boot image, but it is temporary.
Curious. Could this be used on a fresh install as well?

Yeah but it offers no benefit or extra ease. The way we install custom roms right now is the ideal way.
con247 thank you so much for this. I fastboot flash everything from the computer. But two guys that I help out on gtalk on a regular basis had a bunch of trouble with the PH98 process, but aren't able to use fastboot on their computers while at work.
Both guys have been using this rom very heavily going back and fourth between ICS and gingerbread, and both have confirmed this is very easy for noobs compared to the fear they have of ADB, fastboot.exe, and the cmd line.
Thanks again. You are an incredible asset to the Rezound and Android community.

It might be related to using the Amon Ra 3.14 and trying to backup android secure. Dres, just released a fix because the Devblock location changed so it borked making or restoring backups that contained android secure. Sorry , if this wasn't helpful , but I realized my backups worked because I never backup android secure. Just figure it might save you a lot of debugging when its probably on the recovery this time not the app.

Thanks guys but I figured it out. I left a space when renaming the folder containing my backup. So once took out the space I was able to restore.

Need help from those who have successfully installed cm9 on boot manager

K I'm using boot manager to install a cm9 Rom and it keeps failing at creating boot.img. I don't know what I'm doing wrong since I've herd of others installing cm9 roms sucessfully using boot manager. Maybe it's something in my settings? Tried making a thread at init2winit forums but have not gotten any response over there. Anyone here willing to help me out? I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the advice. I did check my SD storage and it said that I only had 1.16GBs left. So I thought that this could be true I suppose. So I switched to int. Remember to disable logging in Superuser. That also causes some major issues. Just open superuser hit settings icon, and where it says logging set it to off. You should have much better luck that way

The Rezound is supported by bootmanager.
I've never been able to get boot manager to work correctly since I've started using it back on my dinc2. Had issues installing some roms on that phone too. Which is why I think my problem may be the settings I am using. Is there specific settings I need to use for the rezound?
EDIT: After I changed the settings SU I tried again at work and it froze still and even rebooted during the install.

Ok, so I finally got cm9 roms to install correctly and now when I try to boot to them it just shows the splash screen for a couple seconds and my display turns off and it never boots. I've tried with kang and paranoid with the same results. I've tried going into recovery and manually flashing the update zip for rom 1, didnt work. Can't think of what could be the problem....

Doesnt look like anyone has asked you this, but are you S-Off?? You need to be S-off for this to work. Also make sure when installing you wipe system/data/cache. You should be able to use the ext.4/2 either one will work. I use the ext.4 since it installs faster....alot faster.

I'm gonna try this. I've been having a serious bug with my phone where it essentially will stop responding to touch. If I do a simpull it starts working again but it'll stop soon after. Done factory resets, cache wipes, etc. Now I'll have to try this just in case. (I already have a new phone ordered on its way but I might as well cover all my bases)
So this is just the totally stock software from HTC and I don't need a root or an unlocked bootloader or anything? Cuz I haven't done any of that.

That means the file is either corrupted or has been modified. Can you check what the md5 for the copy you have is?

This happen to me after flashing faux kernel v29. What I had to do was fastboot flash stock kernel using hasoon2000 tool then flash v29 via 4ext. Your backup boot.image might be corrupted.
