[Q] Desktop sometimes not recognizing my SIII - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Like the title says sometimes my SIII is not being detected by my pc. I've found a way to restore it if it happens but it's quite troublesome to do that all the time.
Is it possible that my USB cable is damaged? Do I need to try other standard micro-usb cables?

My SIII including the parts are just 2 weeks old. Is it covered by the warranty?

Galaxy S2 does not recognize USB.

My samsung galaxy does not recognize that it's connected through a USB cable connected to my computer, and thinks it connected directly to the wall plug.
Is there any way to force-connect to the computer or something.
I don't know if it's the cable or the phone. I hope it's the cable, because it's a new cable, and this had never happened before. But then again, this should not happen. Right?
untick usb debugging in settings/applications/development
still nothing.
Have you installed kies or samsung usb drivers for s2 on your pc ???

Do you see some errors in Device manager?
If yes, try to update every driver marked as error.
Try to update windows. It's very important to install Samsung driver from windows updates. This is how do i resolved my problem.
Good luck!
I was just having the same problem myself, and found a possible solution. Make sure you're using the cable that comes with the phone. Other cables (such as for HTC phones) will charge the phone, but won't allow data transfer.

How to turn on OTG

Hello,
I bought an OTG cable(cheap one, not the genuine), and I tried to plug a USB flash drive ,and a USB mouse, and a USB keyboard, but nothing happens.
Do I need to turn it on somewhere? because I didn't find an option to do so.
Also, I have problems with the micro-USB port itself, so far, only 1 charger is charging my galaxy s3, I don't know why, but other chargers do nothing when I plug them to my galaxy s3, but only the particular charger I grabbed from my tablet.
So, what is the problem? the OTG cable, the micro usb port, or I simply need to activate OTG somehow?
Thanks

Btw, where I work, there is a lab that replaces electronic components from PCB's, so I was thinking of buying a replacement charging port and maybe they can solder it (I've seen how they do it, it's a matter of seconds-minutes), but I remember that the galaxy s3 has different pins somewhere, I remember it has 11 pins compared to 5 pins (am I right?) so will I need a different micro-usb port for the galaxy s3 right? (or the 11 pins are somewhere else?)

[Q] Unable to connect to pc (no it's not a driver issue....)

Hi,
Having a problem since a few weeks with my s3.
Normally i could connect wiht my phone to any pc,, without any problems. Either it be unix, win, whatever...
Suddnely it stopped working, only thing that happens is charging when i connect it to my pc. Different cables tested, original one, etc..
Connecting it to different pc's resulted in a no go.. so it must be phone related.
No windows pop up, or anything!!
So I figured: Let's install a new rom.
Tried ultima 15 rom, got a different CM rom now (sentinel)... all to no avail.
Is it possible that this has something to do with my radio?
rom info:
android: 4.3
baseband: CEEMG2
Anyone have an idea what to do? Even ADB push ain't working..
See your identical post
I experienced the same problem when m using the Galaxy Nexus S But it was solved by using the app from play store named SD booster... In this app m just set the value of sd card to 1024 give root access and Boom my phone is connected as normal
If this not help then i seriously recommend you to replace the charging port of the mobile through samsung outlet
Go into developer settings, some ROMs may have different ways to get into develop er setting and after you get in make sure USB debugging is enable ^.^

Usb debugging is not required for phone to pc connection see basic faqs and guides .
But as OP has ruled out drivers and cable that only leaves the phone so its worth trying .
Usual replies are
Drivers
Cable
Dirty USB Ports
Not connected to main-board usb port .
I had same issue with my Galaxy SII and when i took it to service center they said mother board needs to be replaced.
So after that SII was good as new.
Got same problem here.
phone is charging over usb , but no data connection (tried different usb cables, different usb ports, different pc etc) but nothing..
also.. tried in download mode and so (after reading forums..) but without success.
then i decided to dissasemble that phone and look, what's inside that beast
cleaned usb port (inside, with contact cleaner), resoldered all pins and etc..
reassembled it back to one piece again and still, no data connection, but only charging
so, here i am, what to do next ? change the usb port on motherboard ?
(visually, everything looks right, good solder points and etc.)
Thanks, Martin

if anybody interested:
i've got it working again :victory:
basically, the problem was the hard way (crap usb data connections on motherboard)
soldered new ways for data+ and data-, and now it's back alive again...
(pictures of ways in attachment)
Martin
see you fixed it already but a note to others :
try using usb port right on the motherboard instead of the case front panel usb ports.....connecting to the front usb ports didn't work for me on some roms, but the rear one always connected so I just have a long cable running out of the back to connect my phone and it works on all roms I've used so far
Nice work hani93, i unfortunately do not dare to desolder and solder this stuff
I've noticed another thing though which is weird!!
When i tried to charge my phone via the power charger (the ac one?), when i check my battery view it still says that i'm charging via USB.
I don't think this is correct, i thought it should say AC or something and when charging via USB port on pc it should display USB?
I think this might be one of the issues that it's also not popping up on the computer.
Anyone know what is causing this or someone can confirm that when charging via power supply it should say something else then USB?
Just confirming your question when charging by PC it says (USB) and when its charging from the Mains it says (AC).
hmmm... guess it must be a hardware issue then?
Either usb port or mainboard... christ...
open it up and cleaned the contacts a bit of the usb port...
Still not functioning..

try to go into Download mode (volDown+Home+Power) and then connect usb, same situation?(eg, no data connection to pc ?)
if nothing again.. try to clean usb port inside (where you plug usb cable), sometimes there is dust and etc. then it stops working.
also, how did you clean contacts on motherboard ? i suggest to take soldering iron with clean bit, and drag iron along the pins.

[Q] S III not registered on network + damaged port

Hello,
I have a big problem with S3. It shows that its not registered on network when I try to call but as how I know its fixable, but the port is damaged and only charges and does not sync with PC. I wanted to ask is there any way of fixing it without USB connection or could I connect the S3 straight from motherboard? I know it might sound stupid but I think its possible to open it up take USB cable and just cut it so I could put the cables straight on contacts on the motherboard, but first I would like to hear more experienced people opinion about this problem. Thanks.

I am not sure whether I understood your problem.
1. You can not dial any number. That issue has been discussed several time. Search in the forum.
2. Your phone has not been recognized in your PC/Laptop. Try to use some toothpick and press little bit up / down of the USB port of your phone. Before doing that switch it off and take out battery. Then try with your USB cable and see it is detecting by your PC/Laptop.
You can use any other materials if toothpick not available but only anything made with wood, no metal.

The problem is that port is damaged badly and won't sync and I need other way to connect it to PC without replacing the main port

Then you should consult some technician rather than trying by yourself.

[Q] USB does not connect to PC / ODIN / KIES - unable to detect

Hi. I want to fix my USB connection.
S2 I9100 charge via USB to PC work (however, Kies or Odin is unable to find and connect properly).
Action steps done:
1. Updated Windows 7 with Samsung drivers - still does not see it
2. *#7284# -- checked settings to see if USB is in PDA mode.. - YES
3. Unplug and replug USB.. still nothing pops up via PC and device.
4. USB utilities settings does not do anything when selected
Q:
1. Where can I go to fix it?
2. Is it a missing driver?
3. What is the hardware or software called (terminology so I can search)?
4. Is there other samsung codes I am able to use to fix it?
Thanks in advance.. It's driving me crazy ...
Sounds stupid but did you try a different cable? I've seen many (mostly cheaper) cables which sometimes work for charging but don't work for data connections and sometimes it's the other way around. Also it sometimes helps to try a different USB port.

I have the same problem of no communication with Kies on one of my devices.
I have the benefit of two I9100's, one will connect the other will not, so in my case the cable and drivers are confirmed as good. Is it a hardware issue?
