Back to CM7? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I have ReVolt ROM on my I9100. 4.2.2 Android version. Is it possible to flash CM7.2 stable? Do I need an older recovery, or can I use a newer one? I want to try it. Thanks! Sorry for my bad english!

Thanks for your reply! Yes, I want to try CM7, because I bought it with stock 4.0.3. I have not seen Android 2.3 on SGS2.

Do a full wipe i.e. wipe data, cache, dalvik cache then flash the ROM and gapps as well!

Yeah, I did a factory reset, wiped cache partition, dalvik cache, and formatted system

do not use safestrap, this gains you lots of bugs and flash failures... it's quite not very 'safe' i think... use RAZRbootstrap instead...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347767
works perfect for me.
edit: if you're NOT on 2.3.6 the ics ota will NOT work! it's based on 2.3.6's kernel version...

Make sure you are on stock 2.3.6
If you are not on 2.3.6 then you will have to upgrade first and reroot before you can install any ICS ROM.
By the way, which ROM are you trying to install?

You don't need to wipe before flashing a newer version of a rom I am general unless the dev says a wipe is needed. So no wipe for you

Yes, if coming from a GB based rom you should wipe date/factory reset.
Is there any reason why you cant? All you need to do is backup apps/app data with Titanium Backup and then restore once you have fresh rom.

1. Yeah full wipe is recommended if you are downgrading or upgrading to another Android version.
2. If you don't do full wipe there are chances that your CM9 will not bee stable, freezes and lockups here and there
Swyped from Samsung Galaxy SII
What about an ICS stock rom? that's the one I'm using right now . If I install the CM rom, and if I want to downgrade to the stock rom again, could I do that? Thank you for answering.

Yes, you would just flash the stock ROM using Odin, and that would "unroot" your handset in the process.
If you try to switch from stock to a custom ROM, or between different custom ROMs without wiping your data, you can soft or hard-brick your handset. It's not worth the risk.

[Q] Can I downgrade rom version?

Guys I had CM 10 rom installed on my phone from epinter olympus Version 2013-02-20, then I upgraded to Version 2013-04-21 but I'm not happy with the battery life and I want to down grade to Version 2013-02-20. Can I do that without full clean install? I usually flash the rom and just Wipe Dalvik and Cache.

Get stock firmware from sammobile.com
There you need an account and you can get the stock firmware from your country.
You need Odin 3.07
Put the file you need from sammobile in the PDA section.

You should ask these question on the thread of the Rom, but here you go anyway.
Wipe Data, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache, Format System, Mount System, Flash Rom, Go through Aroma Installation, (It will show v6 but don't worry its v7), Reboot.
