[Q] I/O error 1034 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys anyone know how to resolve an I/O error 1034 message i keep getting popping up, usually after taking a photo using camera or when choosing image from gallery to use as home background
Im assuming its related to recent photos being replaced with a grey "blank"image...shows load failed message when youtry to open them
Currently running official Samsung Android 4.1.2 XXLS8 baseband...XWLSD build
Thanks

Still looking for an answer on this issue guys/gals thanks

Try googling for it, otherwise reflash stock, clear caches and hope that it isn't hardware related.

[Q] Trouble with Camera !! Please help

Hi,
I have been having trouble with my camera for over a month now.
I have tried searching this forum and the net extensively to the best of my ability and hence, chose to start a thread to seek help with my trouble.
Suddenly, one morning, about a month back, when i started my camera, it didn't start and showed the message "Camera Failed" giving me the option of just clicking ok...
I tried restarting, factory reset, deleting cache etc, nothing worked..
Then, after a couple of days, it started showing that 'Force Close' message saying the android.app.camera has stopped working unexpectedly.
I upgraded the firmware to KG1 2.3.4, it stayed the same. Nothing changed.
Then, i rooted my phone a few days ago and loaded the camera mod by potatoman hoping that would help solve the problem.. Still, nothing has changed.
The Z device test shows both primary camera and secondary camera as 'X' meaning the hardware doesn't exist or is faulty. But when i try and make a video call, the secondary camera works fine.
I also tried some Cam to FW write code but it wont work as well.. It again gave force close msg only...
Is there any way to check whether there is a problem with my hardware or is this a firmware problem that can be fixed? I hate the thought of giving the phone to the Samsung Service Centre. Also, since i have now rooted the phone, i think i might have to buy some jig to reset some count.
Am very depressed as i love my phone and loved its camera and its been an age since i last used it..
Request help from anyone who can.
Thanks in advance.
have you tried updating it with SamsungApps?
also, try flashing cyanogenmod7 if that doesnt fix it nothing will as cyanogenmod uses its own code, not samsungs
Hit The Thanks Button If I Helped
Thanks a lot for the prompt response..
I searched the cyanogenmod7 mod that you talked about. It sounds like it just isn't for novices like me.. I will still read through it extensively and try and install that..
As far as updating the camera with samsung apps is concerned, i didn't find any updates for the camera there..
Is there a specific way in which i can update the camera through the samsung apps?

Does it work with Third party apps from the MArket? like camera 360 and stuff......
If it does then may be the camera apk is corrupted in some way.
I would suggest you try to flash via ODIN your original firmware 2.3.3 from Intratech's Thread in the DeV section http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928&highlight=official+kernel and see if it fixes your problems and then flash 2.3.4
also as mentioned above you should have a camera firmware update in the samsung apps which you could try also

To be honest if you have tried multiple different roms, done full wipes, tried different apps, the only answer left is a hardware or firmware problem.
And if the Samsung apps firmware updated doesn't do anything, then it may be broken
Best bet is to restore it to stock, clear your flash counter and send it back.

Well, i know that is the last resort.. Just wanna make sure i cant do it on my own cause sending it to Samsung would mean getting into an unnecessary haggle to try and repair / replace the handset..
I don't know how to update the camera firmware using samsung apps..
I have samsung apps installed on my phone but i dunno where to look for firmware updates on it.. can you please help with it..

Hi,
Can you access the CameraFirmware Standard hidden menu by dialing *#34971539# as im getting a force close error saying the application Factory Test has stopped unexpectedly.
Please check and let me know.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Hi,
i remember getting the force close message when i had tried last time to access that menu..
However, since then, i have tried various solutions on different threads and ended up uninstalling the camera fw.. the default fw wouldn't install. each time i try to install, it says 'application not installed'..
Hence, i do not have any camera fw installed on my phone at the moment.
i could, surprisingly, access the hidden menu now..
i checked the version and this is what i got:
Camera FW Ver : Failed
Phone FW Ver : TBEC28
Can i do anything else with that menu as well??
I tried installing the camera.apk in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098834
after that, i got back the camera icon in menu. it still won't work though !!!
i tried accesssing the menu again and it did open..
however, it kept showing the same message as above.
Camera FW : Failed
Phone FW : TBEC28
i tried Phone to CAM FW Write.
it gave a dialogue box with invalid version written on top and the details of camera and phone fw as above.
Somebody help us down here !!!!
You know what sammy care's services is not that bad an option bcoz if u have tried different 3rd party apps...and it still doesnt work that means the problem lies with the camera hardware for sure...something you cant solve on your own.So stop wasting days thinking about it..give it to sammy care and in no time you ll get it fixed \m/

I have some firmware files for the camera given to me by one user here on xda. Ill try to dump those files via camera firmware menu, but i cant access it right now as i get that FC on factory test.

I have a similar problem; all of a sudden my camera stopped working right at the start of my vacation trip. I get the same "Camera Failed" error. However, a couple of days late I tried and I did get an image, though it was only static. I even managed to take a picture of the static. A day later again "Camera Failed". As it was a 4 week trip I tried numerous of times, one time it worked for a second but the image slowly disintegrated, most of the time FC's, errors or no image.
Cam FW:OCEF02
Phone FW:TBEC28
Once home I tried everything, various camera.apk’s, 3rd party apps, (stock) roms, firmware, nothing. Waiting for my ordered JIG to reset counter before sending it back, it must be hardware related. I didn’t do anything special, no dropping, not letting it get extremely hot or cold, no exotic roms.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II, Camera Not Working and Screen is Black

My Samsung Galaxy SII had been working fine, no issues at all until two days ago I went to take a picture and the camera won’t work, the camera screen is black and hanged up when I press to take a picture for a while then I just keep getting some error messages like force close, and media server not responding. I've tried to clear the cash and data for the camera application but nothing happened, I wiped the cash from the recovery mode without any success. Also I downloaded the app GalaxyS2 Camera Firmware Update and after installed and open the app freeze after the message of turning the phone to the airplane mode then nothing happened.
I tried other apps using camera some of the not working at all, and some recording some videos with the black screen on but after finishing recording it showed me what recorded but even this happened after long time of waiting for the app to do recording.
I tried to do the test for the camera using the code *#0*# for the back and front cam but get the error message of "activity factory test not responding (wait or Close)" then Camera failed. I searched over the web but most of those who had the same problem mentioned that they did factory reset with no luck.
My phone running:
Andriod version 4.0.3
Basedband I9100XXLPX
kernel version of 3.0.15-I9100JPLPF-CL644992
[email protected] #3
Build number IML74K.JPLPF.
Hopefully I will find a solution

I did a Factory reset from the recovery mode and it works for awhile and the closed with media scanning running error then I unmount the SD Card and now it works perfect, and when I mount it again the error message comes again..
I think the problem from the beginning with the SD card, so for anybody faced this first start with un-monunting the SD card and see what is happened first before he/she loose his/her other apps.

[Q] Copy messages and pictures from dead gnex on cm10.2.1

Hi everyone,
I just downloaded the new snapshot update for cyanogenmod for my galaxy nexus, but unfortunately the dead android icon appeared and it's impossible to reboot the phone. The only thing I can do is get into recovery.
Now, the problem is that i absolutely want to get some pictures and messages from it, but everytime I put it on USB there is an error message so i can't even get the pictures.
Does someone have any solutions to get pictures and if possible my messages before I flash my first ROM again?
Thanks for your help!

[Q] Camera Failed - Error when trying to check camera firmware

Hi, i have a Galaxy S3 GT-19300 with a faulty camera. "Camera failed" error when i try to access it.
When i try to check the Camera Firmware via *#34971539#, i get a black screen with a grey bar at the top which says "Camerafirmware standard" , below this there no information whatsoever. After a second or two i receive a message stating "Unfortunately, factory test has stopped". The phone has never been rooted and the problem existed prior to updating to 4.3.
I've tried the following.
Clear Camera Cache
Clear partition Cache and restore phone - have restored a number of times
Reseated ribbon connector for camera
Cleared files in \Phone\Android\data\com.sec.android.gallery3d\cache (I've read this can help)
At this stage i'm not sure what to do. Does anyone know why there might not be any information displayed when trying to check the Cameras firmware? Any help would be greatly appeciated.
Baseband:I9300XXUGMK6
Build JSS15J.I9300XXUGMK6
Running Android Version 4.3
Do a full wipe and flash the latest stock firmware with odin. If still the same then it's a hardware fault.

Will give this a go. Thank you
No luck unfortunately, flashed successfully however the problem remains. Both front and rear cam fail in diagnostic menu so im guessing this is a motherboard fault as all other areas have been ruled out.

If you have the same problem then read the op it is most likely a motherboard fault (physical fault not software) it will need to go to be repaired:silly:
