I am having issues with Maps / Navigation any help? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

My Google navigation crashes all the frikin time, Im rooted, S on, but stock factory rom.
I have uninstalled the app a few times but keeps freezing. WHAT could be the issue?

Lots of people are having this issue on JB sense...the only solution at the moment is to use a third party nav app from the play store (like Waze).

^This. It's a known issue that affects some phones but not all of them. As stated above, use a third party app like Waze.

My Google Nav never worked on JB, only ICS, but it DOES work on Sense 5!

Flashlight App using the most data...

I just check my data usage in the phone settings and apparently my flashlight app is using a TON of data. How is this possible? Has anyone else had this happen?
Sent from my EVO using XDA
Not sure which flashlight app you're using, but that certainly doesn't seem right. I like Tiny Flashlight, primarily because you can turn it on from the lockscreen just by shaking the phone. It reports zero data usage, for what it's worth.
Malware is how that's possible. Could also be a terribly inefficient ad engine, but that seems unlikely given how much data it's using. Report that app to Google and uninstall it.
Tiny flashlight is good. I use TeslaLED because I like Teslacoil software.

LOVE Teslacoil! Nova Prime and WidgetLocker are both great apps and well worth the few bucks they want for them.

That's the stock HTC flashlight malware very unlikely
Also I checked my usage and the HTC flashlight doesn't even show up on usage...

I'm using the HTC Flashlight and it doesn't even show up on my usage list. Probably because it isn't using any data. I'd suspect something is wrong on your phone.
Is it possible to have another app that spoofs as the flashlight when it shows up in usage? I ask because the flashlight shouldn't be using any data at all, and I don't know if its just the image quality, but the flashlight image in your screenshot doesn't look like the htc one to me. It's very close, but it's just a bit off.
I got the stock HTC flashlight, and it uses 0 data.

This is a good thought. OP, can you uninstall or disable the HTC app? If so, and the data usage continues with that same icon, it's probably safe to assume something else is spoofing it.
I had some trouble uninstalling. HTC hub didn't recognize that it was installed. Once I finally uninstalled the app with root explorer, I had trouble getting HTC hub to properly REinstall that app. I had to find an old apk from xda, install that, then HTC hub allowed me to update that app.
I'll keep a close eye on the data usage to see if it continues to change.
Thanks guys

Where did you install it from in the first place? If HTC hub didn't recognize it as installed then I'm guessing you got the apk from elsewhere and it was a fake...

It was included in the rom I downloaded. I never installed the flashlight app myself. I control the led flash from my homescreen with the SwitchPro widget. The only reason I noticed it was even installed was when I checked my data usage.
Edit:
I'm using Flex 360's "stock with goodies" rom v1.3

And what Rom did it come with that you installed?

Well, if you look at HTC Hub the icon in his screenshot marches the icon they use in the hub BUT the screenshot doesn't match the icon in the app drawer. The icon in Hub definitely has less of a tint to it than the icon used in drawer.

I'm using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=droid.pr.coolflashlightfree.
try it it's free.
I'm using Tiny Flashlight + LED which is great. Very useful and has a great widget to quickly turn on/off the light.

Consistent Lag When Opening App Drawer

Sense 4.0 is smooth, but I've noticed that the app drawer consistently lags whenever I open it. The only time this doesn't occur is when I open it multiple times in succession. It happened on both stock and rooted roms, even with the dual core mod, power saver off, and charlmeleon Rom ultra smooth Rosie. It's annoying the crap out of me because the rest of the phone is so smooth.Has anyone else experienced this?

Yep, happens to me too, and totally agree. It definitely takes away from a mostly very smooth sense experience.

Weird..I have had mine now since late May and never any lag what so ever. But now I am running fresh 1.0 with Nova launcher, maybe try that setup, I have used the crap out of mine, running hard every day and never a hickup except for last weekend but that was due to east coast storm that knocked out the Telco.

try settings/developer options and uncheck animations
Yeah I've used apex launcher before, and there was no lag, but I want to have sense. I found a partial fix though. If you change the animation scale to .5x then opening the app drawer is a little more smooth. Hopefully jelly bean will fix this, but I don't plan on waiting for htc's ota update so it probably won't matter to me by then.

I thought Trebuchet was CM9's modified stock launcher?
i noticed this when using chameleon as well...very frustrating. i also noticed a strange lag when opening settings and battery usage. i really liked the chameleon rom because of the options, but yesterday a mostly functional AOKP dropped and ive been using that its SO much better even underclocked to 1ghz.

sweet worked better for me also.. thanks manG!!!
:good:
I have a feeling it has to do with the CPU ramping up to par for the system to use it. I know someone said it still lags with dual core mods etc.etc. but isn't our phone running the ondemand governor by default? The CPU could be at 384 on the home screen and then shoot up to 1.5 during the little stutter moment of opening the app drawer. I could be way off on this but that's how I'm understanding it

Nice. thanks
Radio is now 1.12.11.1119 and 4G is working inside my office building...no more having to go outside it seems.....
Updates to the Gallery. Now when you open it up you can pick the source
Update to the music app. Same with gallery...you can pick the source.
Update to how it handles 4G and WiFi..basically promising to turn them off when it knows it won't need them as opposed to always scanning.
Update to message app. There are more settings for personalization such as changing bubble colors and background
Low res contact fix which is common for all 4.1 I think
Color scheme change from green to blue to match JB
Pin enabled lock screen change
You can open up the maps to see where your pictures were taken
Stock browser has new look and is JB updated
Power saver
Keyboard has been changed up as well. Now can turn off arrows. Can't turn off prediction (well idk how to)
And more stuff...so far what I pointed out is just what I found to be important to me. I just now got to install this >.< I unrooted and updated.
Edit:
The HTC music app widget in the notification area now has the option to go back as well as pause and go forward
Wallpapers no longer scroll (figuring out of this is on purpose or if there's something i need to mess with)

I was hoping that the ringtone and notification volumes would be separate, but they are not.
Oh well, same old work arounds...
the sound in poweramp mutes temporarily whenver I hit the power button.
Soundhound app button
The soundhound app that was built in now has an icon in the apps tray. Never did before and I had to search for it. I know there was a workaround, I just never got around to doing it.

A feature I noticed when about to go to bed...in the clock app, when setting an alarm, the minutes dial now snaps to 10 minute increments. Pretty convenient compared to the previous endless spinning behavior!
is this the new gingerbread update?

Mms?

So I used TB to freeze my stock messaging app. I use go sms pro and it was annoying having to get double notified ever time I got a text. Yes I did disable the notifications in the stock app but I still would get them sometimes for some reason... Any way with the stock app frozen I could not get any Mms. No pictures or video.. Nothing. I could send and receive texts just fine though. I now have my stock app unfrozen and everything is working fine... Any idea why our phones have to have the stock app working to get Mms?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Not sure on your question there, but I also never use the stock messaging app, I've always used Handcent instead. I am able to successfully disable sound and vibration notifications in my stock messaging app, and just use Handcent though. I've done this on all 3 of my Evo LTEs that I've had, have 2 currently. Not sure why you aren't able to, but it's not an issue with the Evo, must be something wrong with yours if you're not able to

3rd party apps retrieve the sms from the stock messaging app. And htx sense is a whole mother level of weird. On aosp you could swap messaging apps of other roms for the device. Not sense though.

Force GPU render, where is it?

I know I saw it somewhere in here but can't find the message again. Where is this option, and the rest of the dev options?
Assuming your developer options are still hidden. Go to about phone and tap build number repeatedly until it says it has unlocked developer options. Then you should see that in settings and your force gpu is there.

Not at all, the S4 does not lag one bit. I would NEVER recommend enabling it, it comes disabled stock for a reason.
People claim to experience "laginess", but this is perceived due to having a 3rd party launcher. Install ANY launcher and look at the delay between tapping an icon and the app actually opening. On the stock launcher, it is INSTANT. Don't know how I managed to go off topic but hope I answered your question.

This, I use to be a big supporter of a popular launcher but I realized that there is almost always going to be lag with them. Its better to find an awesome ROM and go stock imo.
On the topic of gaming, not all emulators are the same.. I use to use a paid PSX emulator but had to switch to a new Gmail so I had to start over and was using a free PSX emu. While I finally got my S4 2.0 MHL adaptor in from Samsung and was gaming. I see that the performance is a bit laggy and slow (40-43fps). Having done my research and knowing that its not the phone's fault or the adapter, I conclude that its the app so I buy the paid app I use to use (FPse) and boom, 59-60fps consistently
