Battery and battery charger question - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

According to Amazon,i should not use the white Anker universal charger on s3 batteries, is there a reason for this? So far i see no reason, but I do not want to take a risk, thanks!
note: I used to use this to charge my s2 Anker batteries

Probably because it charges very slowly compared to the correct s3 charger and it is designed for 3.7v rather than 3.8v. You may not think there is a difference but higher voltage leads to higher termination voltage which this charger will never reach.

So generally, it should be safe to use? It would just change slower?

As long as the charger is designed for Li-ion battery and the correct mAh rating then yes it is safe, but you will never acheive a 100% charged battery for your phone.

Yep charged every single phone battery I've ever had, why would it never be 100% though? Mind explaining?

Anker has another version that will work with gs3 battery.

I mean it works and charges the stock battery just fine,i wonder why it says it shouldn't be used?

[Q] Output voltage and amperage of Samsung Battery Charger

I have a question for those who bought the Samsung spare battery charger device with the integrated stand. What is the rated output voltage and amperage of the charger? If should say so on the device itself.
Also, if possible, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me the actual voltage and/or amperage of the charger as measured by a volt/amp meter.
The reason I am looking for this info is because I bought a spare battery from Samsung, but the current charger that I have doesn't charge it all the way (only to about 91% full) since the output voltage is too low. I would like to purchase a third party charger since they are much cheaper, but I need to know what its specs should be.
I believe the charger your talking about is 5.0 volts and 1.0 amp. I haven't run it on a meter. I would say any usb charger with that rating or higher should be sufficient for a 100% charge

Sorry, I didn't mean the USB charger, I meant the one where you put a spare battery in it by itself to charge. Here is the link for what it looks like:

Sorry, shouldn't have said usb. I was in a sprint store on Sunday looking at that battery/charger combo and I it said 5.0 volts/ 1.0amp

Incorrect. The charger that comes with the phone itself is 1 amp, the charger that comes with Samsung's spare battery stand ebh-1g6mla is only .7 - the stand can accept input at either 500 mA or
1 A. It outputs only 4.2v @ either 450 or 900 mA.

no it won't it will just charge faster. higher amps does not meant the charger pushes out that many, it means it can provide up to that much.
TRUE... I charged my BB 8520 from S3's charger and battery got swollen.
Thanks for the help

Nope. The device restricts the Amperage by itself to 1Amp and the charger delivers 5Volt.

i think there was something wrong with your battery.
I have charged all my devices using the ipad charger 5V 2.1A and never had a problem. i use that because with the higher Amps I can charge faster.
Using a charger with a higher current rating won't really hurt with lithium ion batteries. Some other battery types can be affected by charging too quickly.

Are you using an original charger?
Are you using a wall or USB charge?
I have original 1650 mAh battery and it takes roughly about 2.5 - 3 hrs to charge from 0% to 100% using original Samsung charger
It will more if you bigger battery or you are charging USB or with nonstandard charger

i use original charger and battery(1650mah) only from samsung but still it is taking more time around 4 hours.
is there any problem with my battery or mobile?
i purchased it 6 months befoe.
Bro battery charging time depends whether you are using the phone or not... because if you are using it continuously while charging screen n processor drains alot of juice...so it will take alot of time but if phone is in deep sleep it will charge faster...as simple as that..!!

Mine takes about 3.5 hours with the original charger and battery. So, depending on your usage it can be normal.
From a wall charger mine is taking around 3 and a half hours stock battery... yours seems fine...

Have you heard about undervolting and overvolting? and if you install a kernel like Siyah you can adjust the values needed to make your charging faster.

I thank people who write helpful posts, so i expect the same.

But the charging is still limited to 650mA, since the hardware only has three modes.. 90mA which is never used, 450mA which is for usb charging and 650mA which is for charging with an adapter.

Charge Rate Question

Hello,
I just installed ReVolt and the charge rate is just ridiculous. I can manually change the charge rate but before I do I need too know a few things. The first thing is on stock charger what is the Input Current? The second thing is what is the charging current, (the current going from the phone to the battery).
I know the risks and I'm not stupid I just need to know so I will not damage my charger and battery.
Have a read on the charger itself. It should say how many amps or A it charges at.

I dont know input but at output is 1A at 5V
Since u mentioned u know the risks, can u please give me a brief on em?
Whars the max that can happen?
And is the super fast charge worth it?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
On my previous phone I blew the battery from pushing too much current into it after I changed the charging current. I put 800 and my battery could only handle 650. On my previous phone the charger melted and almost caused a fire because I changed the input current to a higher number instead of using the right one.
I just want to make sure the same thing doesn't happen again. So for those who mock or who are rude just stop. Not everyone is a pro. Does anyone know the input current of the stock battery for the Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 while charging? What is a safe number. I'm using an app which doesn't show the right values.

1000 mah normal charging and 475 mah with usb

I might as well enjoy long charges if no one knows the battery rate. I know the charger rate.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I use mine on default rate for mains and 900ma thru USB and it charges just fine and safely.
So long as the USB is capable of supplying 900ma (most modern PCs can) then there shouldn't be a problem.
I've heard of people using higher rates (mains is 1A, USB 500ma by default) than above but this can be dangerous, for both you and your phone.

Note 2 first charge?

Recently purchased a note 2 which ill be rooting/roming, but question,
First charge took nearly 5 hours to complete? From about 40% to 100, ive never owned a phablet before so am just curious, battery seems to be draining fine btw
Sounds normal? any known defects of the note 2? Thanks..
Sent from my M7 using xda app-developers app
Was it the stock charger? OEM chargers have a 2.1 amp output vs the 1 amp used on normal chargers. It hakes a big difference.

Yes stock charger, brand new out of the box, ill check when i get home make sure it came with 2.1a thanks
Sent from my One using xda app-developers app
First charges always take longer. At the peak of a lithium batterys life it will take less time to charge and last the longest. Plus the note battery is fairly high mah anyways.
