I used the RUU for 1.15 so i could take my phone back to stock (it messed up during moonshine and now says im unlocked and s-off when in reality, my phone is neither) but it gave me error 158 which is an image error and it says to download the correct RUU for 2.06

It says unlocked and s-off, but it's not? And why do you assume it's not?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app

I assumed it wasn't because I was unable to install a recovery and upon installing a couple apps (titanium backup and SU) the apps would say u able to obtain root. The moonshine method failed but still said s-off and after rebooting SU was not installed from moonshine. That was using the Linux version... I've since used the windows version and it worked first try.

In the thread about reverting back to stock it says in the Moonshine section to install the stock HBoot if you get this error.

I also added a note in the RUU section on my download page that to use it they need to flash the 1.15 hboot

HELP ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!

I unlocked my bootloader using htc dev and was following this to s-off:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1471246
before the PG86IMG.zip update started, i got a message that the cid is invalid
now the device is stuck on the htc splash screen, please help me asap!!
what should i do!?
should i choose the factory reset option??
Probably your best bet. Generally, if you can get to boot loader and recovery, you aren't too bad off.
i haven't installed any recovery, i can get to the bootloader though
should i install any recovery now using fastboot?
Someone please help, i havent installed any recovery and i am stuck on htc splash screen, bootloader is relocked, please help!
You should read the downgrade thread again... You MUST change th cid before flashing the pg86img... I had the same problem when I done it...
Or you can get the 2.17 stock ruu and run it to get back to stock and start over...
sent from my downgraded hboot 1.50 3vo running ZR3D injected with anthrax... s-off HTC, thanks to the real developers, I now have control of my device again
I changed , it said failed and then success on the next line.....plz help, now wht should i do?

How should i check if the cid has changed or not??

Instead of the european PG86IMG.zip given on the downgradin thread, Should i try the stock PG86IMG.zip for my evo 3d ?
Sent from my XT720 using XDA App
Try the stock 2.17 ruu.exe... Not PG86IMG, then start over... The stock signed PG86IMG.zip might work, but I had to use ruu... Once you get your phone back to 2.17 stock, unlock, change cid, relock, and go from there...

Downloading the stock zip now...So that means, even in future if i have to revert back to stock from custom rom or whenever i am stuck at htc splash screen i just use the stock PG86IMG.zip and go to the bootloader and update? Right? Or is the goldcard required for s-on and s-off both?

How to return to stock?

So this has probably been posted already, but I got a warranty replacement and the rezound I have now is S-OFF with unlock bootloader. I know I have to relock the bootloader and it'll flash a stock HBOOT, but what about the S-OFF?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25165453
I used this a few months ago and it worked like a charm.
Sent from my Rezound using xda app-developers app
Now am I doing this before or after I run the RUU?
After.
Sent from my Rezound using xda app-developers app
So when I'm trying to run the RUU the exe keeps giving me error issues. So I tried to relock the bootloader but it won't lock and keeps saying "INFODevice was already locked"
Figured it out, had to flash the RUU via .zip instead of exe. Mods please delete thread.

Update to the 3.16 firmware and radio?

And friend of mine has an Evo 4G LTE and wanted me to root it. I kinda jumped into things too fast and didn't update before I rooted it. I used the htcdev.com unlock process and then rooted it but kept s-on because my laptop is windows 64 bit and apparently s-off program requires a 32 bit. Anyways the current baseband is 1.05 and the software is 1.22 and I'm needing to have it updated to 3.16 so he can run newer roms. Is the best way to update is by re-locking the bootloader then unrooting then run an updated ruu? And after we update would the bootloader still be re-locked and i able to use htcdev.com to unlock again? Thanks for any help.
Edit: Or if there is anyway to s-off with Windows 64 bit, that would work as well so I could just update the phone thru the bootloader.

The best way is to S-OFF you can use a LiveCD to do it
Or yes you need to relock and take the OTA

So If I just relock I can just take the ota update and not have to go thru the unrooting process?

Ok that's fine. Just wanted to make sure that if I take the ota while the phone still had root it would be okay. Thanks for the help

So I re locked the bootloader. Tried taking the ota. It downloaded then I hit install but it just reboots to the bootloader and nothing happens. And idea as to what that's all about. I rebooted back into the phone and confirmed it was not installed. Should I just try the ruu?

I think you need to fastboot flash the stock recovery

Phone won't go past bootloader.

Unsure what happened. Phone has been rebooting and overheating for days so I went to RUU it and after I relocked the bootloader my phone decided not to go past bootloader anymore. When I try RUU I get Error 140 Bootloader Version Error. My bootloader has a Security Warning at the top which was not there before. I would like to RUU and get S-OFF so I can take the phone in without issue but am having no luck.
Some more info would be useful. What Hboot & baseband are you currently on, and what RUU did you try to run?

The 3.15 RUU and HBoot 2.09 I dunno basebands. If there is a working 3.16 RUU that would be helpful but there isn't...

Baseband is your radio version, and you can check it in the bootloader.

The radio version is directly below the Hboot version. That looks like the Hboot version. Boot into the bootloader and list the info displayed in the top left corner of the screen, all the way down to the radio version.
You relocked so you'll need to unlock again. You may even need to install a recovery again. What ROM/kernel combo were you on? If you were on a custom kernel, I would try a different one or stick with stock. Some kernels don't play well with certain phones, especially if you're overclocking or changing the voltage any. For now, try unlocking and getting the phone up and running again.
Also, gaining S-off is highly recommended

Hboot is 2.09 Radio is 1.12 I cannot unlock because it won't write. I cannot seem to do anything. I tried using the Unbricking tool but it does not recognize my device. I think this issue started when I tried to lock after a failed s-off attempt.
What do you mean when you say it won't write?
Also, for your radio, use the last four digits, not the ones at the beginning.

Full Radio is 1.12.11.1210 and when I flash something via fastboot it sends it then has a write error. I have tried flashing RUU's, recovery, my unlock_code all to no avail. I tried using the unbricking tool but linux doesn't seem to see my device (I am new to linux). I appreciate the help btw.
You won't be able to use fastboot commands to push a recovery to your phone while it's relocked. Also, the RUU won't work because you're on a software version higher than the most recent RUU.

This is where HTC screwed us with no recent ruu... Smh.
The the op... Have you gone through the steps to HTC Dev unlock again? What does it say when you send the unlock token?

The unlock token won't write. Nothing will write. If there was a modified RUU that would help. If I could modify my version so the RUU would work that would work... and yeah HTC really screwed us...
Edit: Actually the unlock_code.bin writes but then nothing happens on the phone...
Update: took it to a sprint store and they fixed it. They apparently have 3.16 RUU. Or magic....

[Q] Error When Flashing ROMS

I have a Sprint HTC Evo 3D with HBOOT 1.58 running ICS. I managed to Unlock the Bootloader and get TWRP on it...but when I try flashing [ROM] CyanogenMod 11.0 - VILLUMINATI, it throws up an error...I admit, i've not tried any other ROM but that one seems to be the one that i want. I have re-downloaded it and get the same results. Do I need S-OFF? I think I still have S-ON.....I just got this phone so i'm very new to it....and I can't post in the thread about that ROM b/c of my low post count.....
You will need soff and to change your hboot to 1.50 or lower.
ICS needs 1.57 or 1.58
Anything else needs 1.50 or lower

Thanks for that...I watched a video on it, and maybe i can do it...this is the most "Extreme" method of "modding" a phone software.....The ROM i'm trying to install is 4.4.2 I think, so I need to keep it at 1.58 I assume for that?
NOW i got another problem. Trying to get the RUU file installed from a guide i found on here and i had to run that SetLowVer app or whatever its called and RUU Installer shows its 1.00.000.0 and trying to update to 2.89.651.2 but it fails every time!
EDIT: Got the RUU done, turns out I had to RELOCK the device
EDIT 2: I have S-OFF now! Now gotta figure out how to "downgrade" HBOOT

If you have s off the hard part is done!
To change hboot all you need to do is flash a pg86img through bootloader
