Tethering works perfectly for me on ARHD 10.2 (which is what I'm guessing you meant to type). Just go to settings, hit more, mobile network shareing, then go into portable wifi hotspot settings, name your hotspot and PW, then hit the checkbox. I had no problem.
Just curious, when you did your install with AROMA, did you hit AT&T, or international?

There is NO guide for ADHD 10.2 its an international rom which means there is NO AT&T stuff blocking use of tether, you must be doing something WAY wrong.

No.... Using the "phone" apn yes, at 5GB of usage I get throttled down to .047mbps down.
Then I just switch over to the wap.cingular APN and BAM pulling 6-10mbps down on H+/3G. No throttling here..

This thread is a bit confusing to me.
Are you guys saying AT&T charges extra for tethering?

ATT charges $$$ for a seperate data plan which lets you tether Internet, which is also limited to about 5gb or 3gb, not too sure. If you use tethering on a regular phone (stock rom with bloatware- fresh from the store), they would probably charge you for tethering because of the detection apk they put in there.
The way to bypass this is to use a custom rom, Internet tethering should work on it, maybe you could reflash/ reset the phone (all the settings and whatnot) maybe try a different rom?
Also, I diddnt know you could bypass ATT throttle, could you post all the complete APN settings to do that?
Cheers,

OK, please forgive me for being slow. You only save money if you're tethering from a phone with unlimited data plan, right? If you're on a limited plan, it doesn't matter and AT&T should not charge you extra, right?

If you go over the limit on a limited plan, they charge you extra $$$. I think it is $20 for 1 more GB.
If you are detected tethering on a stock ATT phone, they will probably charge you for tethering plan
If you are on unlimited data, you may lose it (plan) if you are detected tethering (stock phone),
if you go over limit 5GB for 4g LTE phone they will just throttle you.
Undetected tethering/ Custom ROM with removed att protection = only worry about going over the limit
Cheers,

I agree. The only thing Att or carriers look at is the amount of data being used periodically or the mac/ip address. Carriers have the ability to tell the difference from our phone using data or tethering, especially if data patterns changes.

It should be the same as with the previous data plan. Im sure the workarounds still work. Try this app, I've been using it without issues: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...S5nb29nbGVjb2RlLmFuZHJvaWQud2lmaS50ZXRoZXIiXQ..
I'm about to try the wifi tether app, though I would make note to use https sites and avoid plain http as much as possible.

this would defeat my doubt about https (secure sites) but why do you say avoid plain http? T-mobile being able to detect if you are tethering where secure sites would be protected and no one can tell what you are doing?

Okay to answer all your questions.
1. It can access all sites.
2. Yes tmo apparently detect unpaid tethering via the pc useragent on http sites but since they pry into https as it is a secure protocol, they can't detect those but I just used all the various protocols without any issues.
3. Yes it works via the wifi tether app from the play store, it does work via the default tether app on some devices but the newer devices they set it to check your data plan for hotspot, but the wifi tether app gets around that and works fine and no I didn't modify anything, I'm on the stock apn, etc.
Yes I do have the true unlimited plan as well.

Actually everyone is doing crazy downloading, the thing about the wifi tether third party app is that it shows your device as being the user of the data and not it being tethered the way the on board hot spot option would, that's why I opt for the third party app than just a fix, that way they can't block your tethering since it's your device showing up on the network and not a pc, imo.

[Q] Wifi hotspot without rooting??

So my buddy just got this phone and he's saying foxfi no longer works for him(from what I've read this seems to be accurate).
He's on an unlimited plan with Verizon and he's wanting me to root his phone tonight so he can get a hotspot app... Before I root it i wanted to make sure 1. That there isn't any hotspot apps that work with the DNA without rooting and 2. I wanted to make sure there are some hotspot apps that work after root. I've been researching and it sounds like most people are saying you're sol unless you go to a share every thing plan through Verizon.
Thanks for the info!
I want to know exactly the same thing. I need internet for my tablet. I'd rather not root, but I will if something works for sure after that.

I am not rooted. 100% stock. I have not unlocked this phone. I unlocked my first one and then it died several days later of a hardware failure and so I am waiting this time to make sure this new device is solid.
All I do is go to settings>more>Mobile Network Sharing>Turn on Mobile Hotspot. I setup the wifi there and then connect with my tablet.
Perhaps its because i am on the Share Everything Plan?

Hotspot Tether without root for unlimited Users

I am currently stuck on the update without root like many.. but the main reason I root is for tether for my unlimited account.. I downloaded and paid for foxfi (now also pdanet) and it obviously didn't work a few weeks back.. however a new update today and the wifi hotspot works.. creates a vpn to work, but I am currently on it now.. update says for the maxx hd and others doesn't list the dna but I can confirm it works.. maybe worth the 5 bucks to someone here. Just a heads up.. (created this account just for this thread, I usually only lurk)

Great news. Finally! I'll try it.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
I have the DNA, and an unlimited plan. By default, when you try to tether up it will tell you to call your carrier to subscribe. You can do it, but you need to be rooted. If you are rooted then install the Android Wifi Tether app from here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
Once you run the app use the following settings:
Device-Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup-Method: Auto
Enable "WiFi-driver reload"
Enable "Routing fix"
This should get you up and going.
But we're not rooted. This is "tether without root" discussion. If you're rooted, sure, you can use wifi tether no problem. The problem is to tether without root.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
If you get the latest wireless tether beta from Google there is an option for non root tether. I haven't been able to test it because I'm rooted but someone should try it.

From what I have read is that they can cancel your unlimited data if you are negatively effecting others experience.
Which can mean what ever they want it to really, but also you have the unlimited data to do as you please as long as

So I really don't know on this topic.

They can charge for the stock Wi-Fi hotspot app service, but if you use something else I think it's exempt...

If ATT works like they used to, you should be able to get away with using the DNA on their dumb phone data plan. Back in the unlimited days they had a $10/mo. plan that you could stick any unlocked phone onto and they wouldn't figure it out by the IMEI alone.

Good luck finding a free data plan. I've been paying for data since 2005. Back when T-mobile's unlimited data was 5.99. Ah the good old days lol

I'm not trying to find a free data plan, I want to use a smartphone on AT&T without being charged for data. They auto charge you if you use a smartphone. I just want to use one and not have data at all.

I wondered if this was what you were asking. You should be able to do it, call ATT to change the IMEI you're using and tell them it's an unlocked flip phone. Ask them to block data on the line so you won't get a per-MB charge, and you should be good to go. This is definitely the way it used to work; they may have changed things since then but I doubt it. You'll still be able to use Wi-Fi, of course.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.
thats weird...i was sure that all carriers had the all phones that were compatible with the service in the system. if it doesn't add it, thats pretty nice.... although, whats the point of walking around with a 5 inch phone that cant use the internet outside of wifi? hmm....

People used to think that years ago, but it certainly wasn't the case then. I used a number of different unlocked smartphones on ATT s dumbphone data plan.

My apologies, I guess I misinterpreted your question. As far as I remember from the old days, I was able to select a dumb phone on the website and then change my plan there. Although I did not take off data, I simply used it to get the dumbphone data. There was an option to take data off completely. Now I must say that this was done on T-Mobile's website back in the day (2007ish). I'm not sure if you can select a dumbphone on AT&T's website as your current phone and whether or not it will stick once your actual phone connects to their network. Something to try. It did work for me on T-Mobile back then.

Yea he doesn't want data at all. But having a smartphone you have to pay for data even if you don't use it. So basically why pay if you don't use it.

It comes GSM unlocked just change your apn settings.
You can Google the settings or use the app tweaker to change your settings. AT&T's 4G LTE is compatible with the droid DNA

It's not that I don't, or won't use data, because I'd use it all the time, it's just AT&T's prices are too high for the small amounts of data.

How to connect to Media Link?

Everytime I try it fails and ask me to call to enable mobile hotspot functionality anyone else have this issue?

Yes I am having the same problem, i still have the old Unlimited Plan, so i dont have hotspots! and it doesnt let me connect either.. Im going to try the Hotspot app on the market and see if it connects doing that, if not i hope some one has the answer.
Mine still unrooted, and locked.

It did require a mobile hotspot enabled data plan (5GB or Mobile Share) to use. What a shame. I did not know this before. Now this media link hd became useless for me.

There's no way there has to be an option for wifi only I don't know why its forcing a mobile data connection. I guess once it gets in more peoples hands we'll figure it out.
Theres a discussion about it at android central

I did not wanted to flash yet, but it seems i might have to do it if i want to use the Media Link now :crying::highfive:
Interesting... I had the same notification (contact at&t for hotspot functionality) when I used the htc transfer tool to transfer info from my old phone to this one.
Despite the warning, a wifi hotspot was still established and I had no issue transferring my info.
I wonder why this isn't the same result for the media link.

Were you using an Intl ROM? The stock AT&T one got rid of HTC's transfer tool.
