Trident kraken AMS kickstand falling off, possible solution? (Photo attached) - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I wanted to know, is it a good idea or bad idea to put tape where the kickstand holder is on the case in order to keep the kickstand from falling off? Or would that damage the case over time? Also, could I possibly get a replacement kickstand since I've only had this case for less than 2 months? Thanks!

Thinnest case with drop protection?

Just picked up the note yesterday. Didn't get insurance on it so obviously I'm quite paranoid and can't afford to break it. At the same time though i don't want a huge bulky case. Id like a case that's thin and lightweight but will offer moderate protection if im careful with it. Suggestions?

You won't get drop protection with a thin case. Thin cases, like most of the hard surface ones, are more like scratches protection.
You could get TPU case, the real rubbery one, and not the hard one with rubberized surface. It will still be thin.
For best drop protection, you will need a thick one like Seidio or Otterbox (if they release one)

The SGP Ultrathin has fitment issues on the Note, enough to force me to return mine. Would rec avoiding it and going with the Elago Slim case as a super thin replacement.

Yeah i know i can't get anything crazy thin and have drop protection but i also don't want something completely huge. Maybe i will be ok with just a real thin one though if it has good grip and a bit of a lip on the front. Has anyone heard of broken screens yet? Or is it worth it to get otterbox/similar?

Anyone know of a bumper that has foam protection on the inside? The more i use this phone he more i love it. Don't want to have to cover it up or add huge bulk. I would think a lightweight bumper with some internal padding would b awesome

Is the $45 one on Ebay the only one? Can't find them anywhere else.that's real expensive. Worth it?

This is the case I have and it is great. Not too thick and it has a great grip. It is TPU from BoxWave I like it a lot.

That seems inexpensive but do the screen protectors work with the I717?
I bought "Speck" case thru AT&T. Shiny plastic outside and rubber inside. Happy with it.
Screen protectors, got the zagg invisible shield from bestbuy. It feels rubbery and stylus having hard time gliding over it.
My suggestion: Do not buy ZAGG screen protector for Note.

After much deliberation I just bought a white sense ultra slim pouch.I think I'll like that as I it'll give it great protection and can still use the phone naked

I like this case. I have some questions for you. How do you like it? How do you attach the plastic outer piece once the the rubber liner is in place? Can you still remove the battery door while the bumper is on? Is there a lip on the front and the back to protect the screen and the camera? And it there room for a screen protector (like the Glas.t)? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks.

Plastic with a leather inner backing to resist scratching. It's not super protective but it's done my Galaxy Nexus well. I really don't like cases, but this one has been the exception.
I absolutely love the Ringke Slim. Had one for my SII also. It's perfect for me.

Otterbox Commuter, Defender, or Seidio Active case?

Which case is the best?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
Haven't tried the seidio case but the defender is better than commuter by far. Offers more protection imo
So true man. I only buy the defender.

Ballistic is sick. Got a 5 layer protection against water . Dirt. And of course crashes or smashes. The outer rubber protects your usb charge, Jack. Camera buttons .making it waterproof (or at least for some time, before u take it out lol) . Price is ONLY....$25! got mine for $20

I have been using Seidio HEV3D case.... Love it. Thin case with good protection and the included kickstand is just gravy!
I like the defender but the edge is too close to the screen making certain keys hard to hit on keyboard.

Ok so my Otterbox Defender just came and I love it! I do, however, have one problem with it. The attracted screen protectorgives the screen an oily look that is really frustrating to look at. Does anyone know how to fix this? What have you all done?

I have one...
I did not remove the screen protector. Instead I removed my ZAGG IS. I like the built in one. However removing the plastic one is not hard at all. Its just glued in place.
Wasn't worried about the ease of removing so much as the feel...its kinda springy if u know what I mean ...its starting to annoy me some lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I bought mine on Saturday but I am taking it back because of the built-in screen protector.
Not only does it not sit flush with the glass (which is why it's "springy") but it distorts the quality of the screen horribly.
Getting my money back and sticking with my Diztronic TPU
Wow I removed it because it was too springy and it feels way better with my ghost armor screen protector!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I don't think Otterbox took into account the weirdly concaved screen. I agree with the feel of it, spongy. But i also don't like how the sides are squared off, as opposed to more rounded on the previous versions I've used on other devices. The accessory plugs are hard to open and close. If you take the silicon cover off, you notice there's no grab rail for the silicon in the corners. Its hard to lock into the holster. Feels unnatural when taking it out if the holster and I've used a defender for over a year previous.
I'm OK with all the feeling because I was using a commuter it seems much like the commuter to me...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
On every device I have ever had a defender series I just cut away the plastic shield it sucks one I do that I toss on my own screen protector and enjoy!

I just got my defender today.I like it feels fine had the commuter before this one the commuter does feel more rigid but I like not having to worry on screen. The holster does look odd will have time to test that tomorrow

Did you purchase directly from Otterbox? I purchased at local att store. After4 days, no better. Thinking of calling Otterbox and complaining.

I bought from AT&T but now outs returnd the screen was grainy may be that's what was meant by springy... I bought back a commuter but don't want to deal with adhesive protector yet want to have a protected screen

Metal battery cover?

Hey guys!
Im looking to get the Note on a concession line from my job (That or the S3, and I have a serious love for the note) and have been looking around for some fun accessories before I take the plunge. Im curious, is there an aluminum back cover for the I717 note, or is it specific to the international variant?
Also, any case recommendations would be great. Im leaning toward the Kraken because of the durability and belt clip...Im just a little concerned about the size. Ive had trident before and cred them whenever possible. They have fantastic products. Thanks!
You could get a glass screen protector and a tpu case if thickness gets you. I have an otter box right now and its easily 2x as thick

No good bat covers like that for ours... Try a sweet armor bumper its alum.i got it and its sweet
Sent from my SGH-I717D using xda app-developers app
Our Note has an NFC antenna in the convert that would be shielded by metal. ICS enabled NFC.

I've got a Trident case for mine. They offer a lot of protection but not as bulky as otter box. Reasonable on the price as well.
so my question is will the battery cover fit? because i don't really care about the NFC function.

I have the OtterBox Commuter. It is a lot slimmer than the Defender series but it still protects your phone really well. I've broken my case twice and contacted OtterBox and they sent me a replacement case twice. They have really good customer service. I know the case isn't the slimmest out there but it's the slimmest it gets with some good protection.

+1 on the other box.
I've dropped my phone a few times already and this case is still going strong. Only hassle was getting the buttons into the holes of the case.

If you want really slim, go with the CaseMate Barely There! If you want really slim and a solid back(no cut-out for the kickstand), there are cases on ebay. They are very very similar to the Barely There case, they just don't have the kickstand cut-out, slightly better camera protection, AND only $6 shipped!! I bought one in white, and it just arrived today. First impression: Very nice case! I'll take a pic and post it in just a minute.

Here it is. Few angles to show that the top and bottom aren't covered, just the sides. Sides do come up enough so the screen will not touch if you set it face down though. Nice touch I think.
Sent from my White Evo LTE running MeanBean, using XDA Premium
the incipio feather case also is slim but doesnt protect the top and bottom like the case-mate, but it does have the kickstand cutout. I have a small issue with mine not completely reaching the side with volume keys but it's insignificant... if you want pictures just let me know
You guys and your otter box lol .. that case is over priced and fall apart.. not to mention the phone is big enough and now your adding more bulk to it .. get the cruzerlite case.. its 12 bucks on amazon and fits like a glove.. I've dropped this phone so many times and not one scratch or bruise.. nice and thin.

The impact doesn't have to be in the kickstand area for this type of damage to occur. This area is the weakest point of the aluminum frame, so the phone is most likely to bend there. Only a rigid case protecting the front and the back edges of the phone would prevent it.

I have 3 of those. Bought the smoke grey, clear, and the red. These are very nice TPU cases! I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a TPU case!! I also have the 2-piece Seidio case in white (with the holster), 2 Commuter cases (one in each color combination so I could make my own black/white Commuter) , matte clear TPU case, and the case I pictured a few posts back. So far, I prefer the one pictured in this thread and my black and white Commuter! Nice to have different options depending on what I'm doing! Main reason though, in all honesty, I'm just an accessory whore when it comes to my phones! Lol. I do this with every phone I buy, and only use some once before they collect dust in a drawer until I sell the phone a year later.

Here's a pic of the Commuter in a Seidio Active holster. The fit is perfect, like the two were made for one another!! I also have the Seidio Surface case and holster. While you can put the Commuter in the Surface holster, it is too tight and far from ideal. If you already have the Surface holster and refuse to buy the Active holster, then it will get you by I suppose...but you should be planning to get the Active holster asap!

Here's what you're left with after using the white silicone and black plastic hard shell. You get the black silicone and pink plastic hard shell. I'm gonna put this on ebay, before too much longer I hope. I think this looks better, or at least just as good, than the pink/white case sold by Otterbox. I think Otterbox should let the customer decide what color silicone and what color hard plastic they want when ever placing an order. This would slow down their warehouse, or maybe just require them to hire one or two more warehouse employees, but would increase their sales I think.
