Need help unbricking! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a NX008HD8G, but I accidently bootlooped/softbricked it. How did I do it? I changed the codename entry in build.prop from REL to L. Now my device gets stuck on the bootanimation.
It is still stuck even after HOURS of waiting.
It has android default recovery. I need to access and edit build.prop somehow, maybe from recovery? How would I do this?
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
P.S - Move this if it dosen't belong here. An xda assist person told me this belonged here.

HELP! why does everyone hate me ((((

It's nothing to do with that. The fact is that there are almost 20,000 unique Android devices floating around. With smaller companies like this, they don't typically provide a lot of documentation of their firmware, nor worry about making sure that the files are out there for their consumers as evidenced by their site where they offer the firmware for like 2 or 3 of their like 10 different tablets or whatever. Also, it's hard for others with no experience with these devices to provide useful help as many Android devices have different ways to update or fix issues like this. We can't all be experts in all the different variations that occur. That said, you can try this (note the disclaimer about the date of manufacture!):
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f90...more-info-inside-thread-1768044/#post10033151
You would have to install a custom recovery and have a copy of the stock build.prop from the particular update you are on to fix it any other way.

[SOLVED][Q][ICS] Need help with recovery install on YourPad P4

EDIT: Well I managed to get clockworkmod installed and everything; still having some issues with aspects of it, but in general I'm good. I'll probably make a dedicated thread to the device; if anyone wants to suggest a proper forum section, be my guest.
Ok, so I need some assistance on installing CWM or another recovery mode on my YourPad P4. I've already rooted and installed ROM Manager, but it could not find a compatible CWM version.
Now, first off I have also been unable to get an exact or better identification of this tablet other than it being sold as a "YourPad P4" and that it's model is MID; so I might also need help getting more details to better assist the finding of a compatible or working recovery.
Here is some information about it...
* Site purchased from/detail page:
http://www.yourstoreonline.net/yourpad_p4_new_android_40/id2040716/product.html
Don't worry, I got it for ~$100 (with the 1GB RAM upgrade), not the displayed price on the site!
* About tablet page info:
Model number: MID
Android version: 4.0.3
Kernel version: 3.0.8
[email protected] #2
Build number: 20120807-A721
Also, before I start messing with it I was going to make a nandroid backup to share for others...does nandroid backup firmware as well? I've never needed to restore a backup so I have no idea what goes into it and can't find a quick answer. I'd like to make a backup of a clean as possible system to share for anyone wanting it. Although I'm surprised that its not been mentioned on xda, I'd expect this tablet to have at least been asked about once considering it was mentioned on woot.
Thanks to anyone for any help, and I apologize if this should be in a different section. If so, could a mod please move it before any fuss is made.
And now, I'm off to bed (so I won't be responding/checking this for a few hours).
Not to sure about the rules for thread bumping, but I just wanna make sure this gets seen soon (as I'll be very busy and it will be hard to work on it next week and the the days that follow).
Also I thought it was worth mentioning now that only really mentions of this tablet I can find are in posts by me, ahahahahaha
EDIT: Oh, and I havn't verified I even have a recovery partition yet as I can't cat /proc/mtd
it's been about a week now and no response; I even posted it over here http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...cs-need-help-recovery-install-yourpad-p4.html
so bumping, if anyone at the very least knows some mystical other worldly site that somehow manages the chance of providing me an answer over the ever amazing xda; please post

Thanks alot for this, I'll definitely read it over a few times before attempting. Hopefully this will work out. Thread is still open for any other input, so anyone else coming here that can provide any additional help go ahead and post.
Well I still have been unable to get a recovery option going. I tried the link mentioned by AJ88 and it didn't work for me. Essentially the link boiled down to 2 simple adb commands and a custom recovery.img. First step was to "adb push recovery.img /data/", but I ran into a permission denied issue and could not figure out a way around it (didn't want to mess with chmod, but I did run the "fix permissions" script in the clockworkmod rom manager. So instead I just pushed the recovery.img to my sdcard. Next step was "adb shell "cat /data/recovery.img > /dev/block/nandg; sync""; so instead I went "adb shell" then su to make sure I didn't get any more issues, then just "cat /sdcard/recovery.img > /dev/block/nandg; sync". Rebooted and tried all combinations of key pressings to access recovery with no luck (even tried via adb). So any ideas on my next course of action?
youtPad P4 issues
Dear EarthBoundX5,
Please do not feel alone in what I might be perceiving as "buyer's remorse" as I also own this device and have begun to have issues with it functionality. Initially I was attracted to this device for what seemed a myriad of available functions and abilities, however I'm really starting to believe the old saying, "you get what you pay for".
My main issue at this point is when using the free Kindle app, after selecting my book, the screen goes completely blank and does NOT come back with the reading material I've selected. If I touch the back button, I get a brief flash of the screen showing the page that I'm on in the book, but after that nothing. I've tried rebooting the machine, currently trying a fresh install of the Kindle app, we'll see how that goes TODAY.
I also have another off-brand tablet, iBridge, which was purchased during the frustration period of waiting for YourStore . com to get their act together and send me the YourPad. Funniest part about it though is that the iBridge comes with a booklet thats 4x the size of the poorly written "booklet" that the YourPad people put out.
I'm sorry that I don't have a solution for your problem as I'm a complete newb with the tablet world, but wanted to at least touch base with you to let you know "you are not alone. I am here with you...." LOL
Found you with a google search for online help regarding YourPad, and it brought me to you, and this seems like the most helpful place I might have found in reference to oddball tablet issues. Take care, have a good day. and I'll check back in to notify regarding Kindle reinstall.
Well I've been waiting for a reply to either of my threads with no luck, so today I figured I'd just try again the method of manually setting up a recovery, and this time I just decided to try and hold every button I could while powering and and BAM RECOVERY MODE *****ES!!!!!! So guess either I must've just screwed up last time or something. Anyways, I'll edit the OP to reflect all this later...maybe start a dedicated thread with any quirks I figure out down the line using this tablet; and of course post my nandroid backup. When I setup my 2nd YourPad, I'll make sure to make backups of any files I may have had to change (ie, nandg, etc). The question is, what section would such a thread belong?

I don't feel any buyer's remorse...yet at least, haha. If I end up having the same issues as you, maybe I'll change my mind; but I really don't see much wrong yet with this tablet. I mean, obviously its cheap and all, but for the poor man its fantastic. But ya, I HATE the YourStore, they took FOREVER to ship out the tablets. Anyways, for people like you, it really makes me thing I should take point on this tablet and start a dedicated thread.

Re-do

Hello every one! Today im starting a little project , and this project starts with huuuge questions (for a big noob like me).
So, ive been rooting phones and tabs for me and my friends for a while, and so far nothing has showed up that I couldn't fix until now.
Asus MeMo pad FHD10, second one to root, it wont allow me to flash any recovery (and has none on board!) any system (and deleted the original) or OTA update it out! (cant create cache/update.zip), ending up in a cinderblock type bricking Mod Edit -Masked profanity removed
So I have come to the final conclusion after 8 hours of nonstop unbricking failing fun that I have to send it all to hell (except the kernel probably) and start over with stock android and new bootloader and recovery (everything but kernel basicaly).
My objective here is to pimp this tablet out by getting rid of all the bloat ware and have the latest android, so I can at least make the best of it
Now question time.. (I know this isn't q and a, but this is more like an assisted project here of modifying and unlocking this brick of a pad!)
is this the best thing to do?
can it be done? how???
risks?
NOTE: Im no programmer, hardly know how to use SDK (adb and fastboot), but im willing (and able!) to learn.... and have a fast computer if that helps....
so far everything needs a recovery to be installed, but my bootloader wont allow it, I keep trying to find a way to surpass it but nothing, help please.

[Q] Overwhelmed: Pop C1 custom ROM installation

Hiya
I have an Alcatel Onetouch Pop C1 4015D (and for the record, I'm never buying this brand or similar junk again). I just got it un-bricked after a few months thanks to the online USB firmware updater. It's currently in pretty much its factory-default state again, preinstalled crapware and all.
What I'd like to do is install a custom ROM on it, to have a clean system I can actually enjoy owning, e.g. AOSP (if that is what I think it is: the basic, clean Android system). The problem is that I'm getting a little overwhelmed with information, tutorials linking to more tutorials, tutorials linking to downloads for which I have to "complete a survey" and such (abort abort abort), 2 different tutorials for the same thing stating different ADB commands, a few outright scams, etc etc etc. There's tons of information out there, but 90% of it seems wrong, irrelevant, device-specific or otherwise unusable. I've already spent hours on this and still haven't gotten anywhere.
I'd be very grateful if someone actually reliable could walk me through the entire, correct process, please. :fingers-crossed:
I'm just going to write down the bits and pieces of info I already have:
I've already rooted it with Framaroot; no problems there, superuser works.
I've found this site that lists several ROMs, presumably specifically for the C1, including the standard ROM and a cleaned version: tinyurl dot com/o24wqoe. The AOSP one strikes my fancy and is on my SD card already.
The same site says I can just put the provided ROMs on my SD and install them as updates via stock recovery, but I highly doubt that because I read everywhere you specifically can't do that. Sounds like fake advice to me.
I'm told I'd need to unlock my bootloader, but once in fastboot/bootloader mode none of the offered fastboot unlock commands really do anything. The "..." appears in my console and then nothing.
I've tried installing TWRP and CWM recoveries, but you know, "your device is not supported". There's this video of a C1 with a custom recovery (watch?v=_TGgXIp3fWM) and the comments claim it's CTRecovery, but I can't even find anything about that. I already submitted requests for a fix for my device to twrp and cwm half a year ago before I bricked this thing, and one person promised he was gonna make a build for me, but nothing came from any of that.
I think that's just about all the useful things I can extract from this whole mess of information I have...
Please help me make sense of this overload of info and device-specific shenanigans, and walk me through what seems to be such a simple process for everyone with a mainstream device?
For the record, I'm back down to barely being up-to-date on what is what anymore. I'm more than familiar enough with the theoretical side (bootloaders, partitions, bios, etc) because of my heavy computer usage (professional programmer), but once I get into Android I'm just lost. All that fancy terminology nobody seems to bother to explain, things that are taken for granted but aren't really obvious (like a guy demonstrating the installation of a custom ROM, and only mentioning 10 minutes into the excessively long video that you need to install a custom this and custom that first), so many alternative methods for the same thing that have different dependencies (unlocking bootloader vs custom recovery), etc... I don't know anymore what's device-specific and what isn't, who is telling the truth, what a given tutorial is actually making me achieve in the end, etc. TL;DR I'm lost, I'm not stupid but I'm not gonna pretend to know anything about Android's subsystems anymore at this point.
wow u wrote a full post and u speaked for me as have the same problem
Custom recover
i have made a recovery for the 4015x
and got one of the roms to work
(and a fixed stock recovery)
there are 6 versions of this phone and at least two different partition tables that ive seen
but getting it back from softbrick id use the "mobile upgrade s 4.1.1" from the alcatel site
alcatel, mobiles, all mobiles, pop c1, support and on the right hand side down load the program and follow
this forces a stock rom back on the phone (no root and all data wiped)
im waighting on the mods to let me post links so i can host the roms and recoverys
but if you want to mess with the roms your self you can edit the partition tables and get the roms to install.
id use the app "diskinfo" to check what partitions your system and data etc etc are useing and chainge this in the roms.
hope this helped
p.s. if not i could poss look at editing the aosp rom for you and host if for a bit
just waighting on beeing able to post links :s

Samsung Boot Loop - How do you work out what software needs flashing via odin?

Suppose a Samsung phone is stuck in a boot loop, getting only as far as the Samsung logo. Recovery mode doesn't work - it only shows a sick robot with 'No Command' and some text about 'applying CSC' (whatever that is) before going back into the boot loop. Download mode works. You can inspect the hardware, and do whatever is necessary in download mode. Aside from that which can be worked out somehow, the history of the phone (original network, firmware installed, what's been flashed to the phone, unlock status etc) is unknown.
What are the possible causes of this boot loop problem? Does anybody actually know, or is everyone just hiding behind comments like 'there are many possible causes', pretending to be knowledgeable when they don't actually know anything? I ask because I really want to know and genuinely have not seen a complete answer to this question after hours of searching and seriously wonder whether anyone actually knows. If there are 'many possible causes', list them and explain how they result in a boot loop.
How do you work out what software needs flashing to repair the phone? If it can't be worked out, is there a sure-fire way of flashing all of the necessary software so that it will definitely work?
For any phone model, there are many firmwares available, according to country, carrier, and firmware date. What actually governs whether a given firmware is going to work on the phone? Surely the hardware is pretty much always the same? So why does the firmware version matter as long as you get the right phone model?
If the model of the phone is significant (i.e., it isn't possible to give a general answer to these questions that can be followed for any model of Samsung phone), please explain why it is significant for your answer (rather than hiding behind that as an excuse for not answering), and then assume an S4 mini.
Thanks.

rooted/magisk
Every time my phone boots up- the very beginning process is a warning dialogue explaining my bootloader is unlocked, not sure if that's normal. My experience with computers is above-average, but with cell phones its very slight.
Having just rooted my new phone (Aristo 2) with a PC, I'm not even sure how to format/reset while keeping the root TWRP Magisk etc.. if I'm being honest I'm not entirely sure how to even use TWRP & Magisk.
regardless, if somebody could please instruct me on what to do to fix this error- I would be very thankful, also any additional information in regards to the mention applications would be much appreciated. (how do i reset but keep Magisk/TWRP etc)

I just skimmed your posts and the problem may be the system version you're trying to install apps made for a higher Android version.
I wish I could be of help, but as I have suggested before to other members is to post this kind of issue on Android Central forums.
We are all under the same Android umbrella
Ps: I don't think it's practical to insult potential help folk.... Maybe I read it wrong.
Good luck
