BNTV250. Software shows 9.9.9. But that's cause of the root done sometime around jan '12

can i get any help? really would like to use some android game son it like castle clash etc.

Your BN ROM is based on an old version of Android, most current/recent apps would not be backward compatible with it. To install and run these apps you'd need to run custom ROM based on a recent version of Android such as CM10 or CM11, either internally on the Nook EMMC or off an SD card -- see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575489 for some pointers/tips.

so what should i do? i think i have everything noted in her eit'd be so much easier to start from scratch all the tutorials are great for that, but i've already rooted probably on old 1.4.0 or something for the nook itself ( i have this problem when i used to update my ds flashcarts too, all info on how to do new, but not how to update if you've already done it LOL )

is the prev poster correct? all i need to do is update the rom i have? how can i tell if i did it on the card or internal? i can't remember the method it was so long ago... and i know it can't be as simple as drag and drop and run...

You can use the tutorials with your current rooted NT as is, no need to first un-root it.
Alternatively, you can go back to stock using the "8 failed boots" method, update to BN ROM 1.4.3, backup the new stock ROM, then install CM.

which would you suggest?
i'm assuming if i go with the current root to first figure out if it's on the card or on the ssytem itself, and i guess the easiest way to do that is to remove the card and boot it up?

i'm also showing the current bn rom is 2.0 so i wouldnt' know where to get the 1.4.3
Ok found the update. Still confused about everything. So I can follow instructions for installing c11. After rooting. Since I'm already rooted?
Or do the reboots etc to go back to 1.2. Then update to 1.4.3. And start from scratch? I don't want to mess up.

See this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2081981 for a good explanation of the choices you have. Option "B" is what you currently have on your NT.

so since my tablet is already rooted i don thave to do A or B and should just pick up at C since that's the installing of the actual rom etc? in step 2? and would you suggest cm 10 or 11? since that talks about 10 only.

B (rooted stock ROM) is what you already have and which is keeping you from installing new apps because of its outdated Android OS base.
The fact that your NT stock ROM is rooted is immaterial in choosing A (running custom ROM CM on SD, leaving the NT stock ROM on NT internally intact) and C (wipe out stock ROM on NT and replace it with CM).
Since you are still new to all this rooting/flashing, A would be a safer choice to get familiar with custom ROM and evaluating CM10 vs CM11. Just find a 8GB or 16GB class 4 SD (preferably Sandisk -- see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005633), and download and burn a pre-made SD CM image from Succulent's CM "SDCARD images" repo: http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2013...id-4-3-for-nook-tablet-imgsdc-boot-09aug2013/ and http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2014...droid-4-4-2-for-nook-tablet-sdcxxx-01jan2013/, and you're set to go.
Down the road you can move onto C if you want to improve the performance.

[Q] Unrooted by 1.4.2. Options?

I rooted my NT two days ago using Albert's SD card method (thanks!), and thought I had for sure used NT Hidden Settings to block OTA. This morning I saw that the update had been applied, and a few things on my NT are now broken.
Now I cannot access the market.
Other gapps are broken now too including Talk, Currents, and gmail.
Can I just follow the steps to make an SD card and re-apply root, or do I need to do a wipe or reset first?
What are my options?
Thanks everyone!
I had this happen to me on 1.4.0 I just started all over and MADE sure I seen the 9.9.9
So I would just re-flash my SD-card with CWM, boot into CWM, wipe, and start over again? I'm fine with starting over, I just want to make sure I don't mess anything up during the reset process!

FWIW, If you re-root with Albert's SD Card Method (4.50), blocking future ota updates is a simple one click process (it's now an option in NT Settings). Or, just sideload the latest NT Settings (released on 2/15) and you're good to go.

back up and running
Ok, so I wiped and re-rooted and now everything's just about back to normal. I've tried the built-in OTA block a few times, but my version number still says 1.4.2. Maybe it's like the unknown sources setting and I have to reboot or wait awhile...
I'll just make sure to make some backups this time. Good news is albert's method still works on 1.4.2, but he knew that already I guess.
I'll be back if anything goes wrong, but thanks everyone!
I purposefully updated mine to 1.4.2 (from 1.4.1 rooted) and was able to use brianf21's bootable root sd card successfully without having to wipe anything.
1.4.2 is completely rootable, I was able to use CWM with a flash zip to get it all on there. I'm hoping to release my work this weekend, I'm just waiting for some files that should allow it to work for 8GB devices too.

He method and files till work for 1.4.2? Great, I just bought my NT the other day.
I just got my new NT in the mail. Should I use the sd card method over the system it has, or should I go back to 1.4.0 and root that. My wifes NT is 9.9.9 and works well. Also, I don't have a sd card yet, is there anyway to root my new tablet without going to the store? (looks like the tablet shipped with 1.4.1)
Thanks
You could just order an n2a card and be done with it. No rooting and you'll have an Android tablet when the n2a card arrives.

Or you could avoid n2a and all of their schemes. Everything they offer is available for free and they are truly assholes for selling it. I don't give a **** it you are "just selling the sdcard" They are a **** company making profit from the folks that put in all the effort.
I rooted my wife's Nook and my phone, so I should be able to complete root without buying someone's card, just wondering if I should go back to 1.4.0 or root 1.4.1.

Rooting via the SD card methods available works on any firmware released. Rooting 1.4.2 gives you the latest bug fixes from B&N though.

What should I do to get my market working? And also make sure I can block OTA updates? Thank You.

I personally think blocking OTAs is a little silly considering how easy this device is becoming to root. However to get Market back and stuff all you have to do is take one of the sd root methods and use that, this will restore the files to /system that got removed by the OTA
Checkit
OTA block by Indirect's 9.9.9 Titanium Patch and CWM recovery flash
I believe that 9.9.9 patch prevents the file from every being downloaded and I believe the custom recovery prevents the File from ever installing. Any OTA that comes down from Barnes and Noble Requires STOCK recovery to install.
I also prove my Root SD cards will Root the 1.4.2 updated 16gb Nook Tablet!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=8AUMKvxnI9M
when powering back on nook it says reset to factory
{So I have used your method before but now when I go to reboot after making a root card all it says is would you like to restore to factory settings, I have also tired using the usb to boot up when the others failed. Now I am stuck with a stock nook with 1.4.2. Am I missing something?}
So after downloading 4.6 everything worked perfect, and got the 9.9.9
Thanks for the hard work.

[Q] Possesed Nook Tablet

Hello I hope someone can help me with this. I rooted my daughter's Nook tablet with OS version 1.4.3 and put CM7 on there. Here is the link to the page I followed to do this, I used everything on there, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2037368
Every once in a while the thing goes crazy and just opens things up on its own. It won't follow any of the buttons pushed or even when I tried to power off it took a long time for it to react. Any ideas or suggestion would be very helpful she's going back to college later today and would like this fixed before she leaves.
Thanks

That may be it, her battery was very low. Thanks for the info.
I'd suggest upgrading to CM10 next time you have her NT for a couple of days. CM7 for the NT got superseded by CM9 and CM10 well before its development got mature enough, its Android base (Gingerbread) is also ~2-year old and many new apps would not be backward compatible with it.
The easiest/quickest way to get on CM10 is to run it off an SDcard using a pre-made image from http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/. You can buy a 8GB class 4 microSD (Sandisk is best) for about $6 on ebay, burn the CM10 image and just mail it to your daughter to put it in and boot it up.
If you want to build the CM10 SDcard from scratch (for more customization) you can use the process described at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35786747&postcount=1, but you'll need to use the NT to "build" the card.
Just an FYI stock nook untouched freaks out with low battery as well. It isn't ROM related.
Sent from my CM 10 nook tablet. Thanks devs!

1st thing i thought it was a known issue that gingerbread doesnt work well with NT's. and that there were always huge bugs when it is installed.
2nd thing u shud def update to newer cm10.2 stable with bexus-n kernel. works well even without kernel.just runs faster and saves more energy and charges faster.
3rd u should ALWAYS wipe data first especially if ur installing different android versions (exp: gingerbread to jellybean and such). even going from stock nook to a rom u shud wipe.....chance of leaving residual data from past rom might brick it or mess up the internal partitions. then ur in for a long drawn out recovery process. good luck :good:

[Q] Rooted long ago with CM7, failing, looking to start fresh

Evening all,
I previously rooted my Nook Tablet 16gb using an SDCard and I believe CM7. I stopped using the nook for awhile and when I brought it back out CM7 would constantly crash. I don't know if I should start with the guide on the Android Developers sub forum as I don't know if that's current.
Could someone please point me in the right direction for where to get started? Is the SD card method the best? What launcher should I choose? I'll continue searching the forums but any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

CM10+ is your best bet. It's based on Jelly Bean. Pretty stable also. CM10 released a stable version on 12/31 and CM10.1 is almost to it's stable release (RC4 was just released.)
The succulent versions are my favorite. Go to http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/ and check out some of the posts. Find something you like. If you need help just let me know.

Thanks to the both of you. Data, in my own research I have found the Succulent versions of which you speak. So far I've been following this guide here, but I've run into a pretty big issue. The images that I'm trying to download are hosted on this goo.im site, and I'm having numerous problems trying to download from there. If I can get the download to work, it slows to a crawl then ultimately stops. Any browser I use fails with this.
I'm still searching, however do you know of any other mirrors I would be able to download the releases?
Also, the Nook was already previously rooted. Do I need to update CWM or the root to be able to use CM10? And if so, how?
Thanks!
I managed to download the files that were necessary and got it running. The only problem I'm having now is the sluggishness that is being caused by CM10.1. Waiting to see if this is fixed via a reboot, but it's even taking a little while just to open the book on the Nook. I don't know if this is due to having previous files on the nook or anything. I need to start looking into ways to completely restore the Nook to factory condition and work at it from there as well. Even after the reboot just bringing the Nook out of lock can take awhile.
Also it appears some report that this can be untethered... and some report that they always have to reboot with power plug to get it to load CM10.1. Has anyone been able to force the issue one way or the other? Any idea why some have success and some don't? As always I'll continue searching, but if you get to the answers before I do I would appreciate it.

If you're running CM internally on EMMC I'd suggest you wipe /data (which will entail reloading your apps from Google Play) and /cache; if you're running CM off SD card you'd need to wipe the /data partition on the SD card (aka /data1 if you're using CWM version compiled by Succulent).

Digi I believe it's off of the SDCard. When I boot the Nook w/o power or SDCard it loads Nook software + root. I went ahead and formatted the data partition as well as the system partition (for some reason in my partition manager it was listed as EXT3)... got everything squared away. The OS part of it seems to be running a bit better right now... Loading a book in the Nook app still takes forever but I'm beginning to think that's because it's Game of Thrones, and it merged 4 books into one so it's like 3500 pages. It takes between 45-60 seconds to load each time I go in.

need help nook tablet 8gb running cm7

I am a little familiar with rooting and flagging cm add I did it flawlessly on my nexus I just bought a nook tablet 8gb (wad told it was new hd and didn't know a thing about nooks and fell for it) but it is the older regular nook tablet. It was already rooted and had cm7 installed. I don't know what method was used bit it does power directly into cm7. I am used to jelly bean and I don't like going back to GB. I've researched fora few days on differences with this tablet but I've not found much. Does anyone have s link to a stable version of the acclaim cm10? What doi need to do too flash the new rom without raising my chances of brick. Do I just go to recovery and delete all data then install rom from sd? Do I have to flash a new kernel? Or can I flash a faster one(that's another reason for wantingcm10 mine freezes alot) if I can flash one does anyone have links to the rom and a comparable kernel? That you so much in advanced!

[Q] Nook Tablet 8GB restored to stock freezing?

Hi I bought a Nook Tablet running CM 10.13 stable, wanting to restore to stock. I did restore it using Nookunrooter apk. However, it is really laggy and when I tried to restore it back to factory settings again I saw the android menu come up before it switched to the 'Nook: Read forever'. Is the android still on it and that's why it is lagging so much.
You might want to consider this method for a clean restore to stock ROM (v1.4.2):

Hi,
applying an APK to any install would (generally) only make changes to the running system software in a somewhat small way
The method posted here: will return the unit to bone stock, 100% , refreshing the system with factory versions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663836
(same method/image as digixmax posted)
(download the image, create an SD card, boot and run the card, and it returns you and your partitions to factory version 1.42)
if you have anything on the tablet , it wont be there when you are done....
you might want to check before you reflash it , if the system settings screen is aware of the serial number, ie: can you register an account on the NOOK with Barnes & Noble as it sits now ? because if the person you bought it from made a mistake, then you may end up with a unit that your only option is to run an alternate version of something, not the factory software.
good luck
edit: I guess if you were running CM10, you wouldnt have any access to the "stock" software anyway, so if you want bone stock and then install something better (CM11 is really, really good...) then sure , might as well start it off totally fresh.

I actually tried using the method from this link before the apk, but the nook would just keep booting into CM10. That's when I decided to just use the apk. I am on stock, but it's really buggy and if you look on the link you sent me when I tried to do a factory reset on stock it gave me the message show int he last picture "Clearing data.. A reset is being preformed this may take few minutes." that's why I figured some trace of the CM was still on here.

you might want to check before you reflash it , if the system settings screen is aware of the serial number, ie: can you register an account on the NOOK with Barnes & Noble as it sits now ? because if the person you bought it from made a mistake, then you may end up with a unit that your only option is to run an alternate version of something, not the factory software.
good luck
edit: I guess if you were running CM10, you wouldnt have any access to the "stock" software anyway, so if you want bone stock and then install something better (CM11 is really, really good...) then sure , might as well start it off totally fresh.

I'll try and see if this works again, now that I am on 'stock'. Thanks, tell you how it turns out.
