[UTIL] PatchSplash v0.1 - flash custom splash screen w/o old splash at the bottom! - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

I noticed that the old splash screen when flashing a new one still exists occupying about 100 pixels below the screen (where the OS, radio info shows at startup). This has been a problem in the Diamond and Raphael devices. On my stubborness and experimentation I've fixed it (without disregard of bricking it! I thank rotohammer for this!)
So, here you go! Tested working in Touch Pro and Diamond! (thanks to Sevennl for the first one testing it on Diamond )
patchsplash v0.1
- supports Raphael and Diamond Splash screen
Instructions:
- do the steps from on how to change your splash screen from here:
for Raphael : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2709600&postcount=1
for Diamond (item no. 3): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2465195&postcount=1
- BUT, before doing step no. 5 (converting .nb back to .nbh file) run patchsplash
- usage: patchsplash.exe [R/D] <target .nb file> <output .nb file>
example for Raphael: patchsplash.exe R Splash.nb Output.nb
example for Diamond: patchsplash.exe D Splash.nb Output.nb
- continue packing it to to .nbh
- FLASH and DONE!
Correct file size of the final .nb file to be converted to .nbh should be 655360.
Want to revert back to original splash screens? I've extracted T-Mobile/Vodafone/HTC original splash screen for Raphael.
A SIMPLE DONATION OF THANK YOU's IS APPRECIATED. And of course, I'm not liable if you brick your phone
AT&T Splash from navyguy (thanks!) can be found here!

I need some sleep... zzzzzzzzzzzzz...

I would love to test but can i just ask, if i have a 480x640 splash screen i want to use, with your method the image will show up under the bottom 100px, or is that the wrong understanding.

no-- that is the current problem right now everybody is missing about 100px data at the bottom of their screen when flashing splash screens for Diamond and Raphael, but with the patchsplash it will fill up the missing data so it will have the true 480x640 splash screen What others was doing before is just have a black splash screen (with an original HTC splash) so it would "sort of" blend with the screen

so doing this would give me my full image (480x640), not the image minus the the last 100px and a black stripe?

I've check the Raphael and Diamond OEMs but it seems the person who uploaded the O2 orginal shipped ROMs didn't include the splash screen, so you might have to wait for a bit...

Can somebody explain me how this works (patch splash).
I think I do something rong, or it doesn't work...

You cant just click on the .exe in windows. You must enter the commands in a DOS prompt.
IE..
for windowsxp
Start/Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt
That should bring up MS-DOS. Then CD\(whatever folder the patchsplash.exe file is located in)
C:\(Whatever folder)\>Patchsplash.exe R splash.nb splash2.nb
Then continue packing to a .nbh file and flash it. All done.

OK, after some serious searching, I found an O2 Splash I built from back in my early Tilt days. I converted the original 240x320 .bmp to a 480x640 .bmp. Then ran the patchsplash.exe file to create a fully functional .nb file prior to building the .nbh file. I hope this is what you guys are looking for. If not, drop me a PM and I will see if I can find the exact file.
Included in the .zip file is the .bmp and the .nbh file. I have not included the ruu wrapper as I find it much safer and quicker to flash via SD card. Just rename the O2Splash.nbh to RAPHIMG.nbh and drop in your root directory of the SD card and enter bootloader.
I have also attached the .bmp file by itself in case it is not correct and you dont want to flash the .nbh file.
Enjoy.

-it supports several ways of adding files to the rom: drag and drop or browsing
-easy removal of files in the rom
-easy way of editing the volumelayout (initflashfiles.dat)
-easy compiling
-easy dumping
-a console that shows you whats going on
-registry editing ( not yet fully functional, leave your fingeres off that )
well everything is easy
i'm sorry for this crappy presentation, it's late now and i'll have to go to the hospital tomorrow and i'll be off for a few days.. feel free to ask pof/olipro if you got some questions
a quick introduction on how to add your own theme (.tsk) file to a rom:
1.) download it and extract
2.) install the java runtime (required for achefs script, i inted to port his script to c or c# but that might take a while) , the run time can be found in "install me first"
3.) start the executable
4.) you will notice that all buttons except "select source rom" are grayed out.. push "select source rom" and browse into 'ROMS\' select the 'Clean-WM6-OS.nb' rom there
5.) now "dump rom" and "compile rom" became available... we don't need to dump the rom for this purpose (do this if you want to edit the initflashfiles or if you want to remove files from the rom) at this stage don't push anything
now comes the fun part
6.) simply drag and drop the tskfile(s) of your choice into the "files to be added" listbox
7.) now give your romfile a name using the outputrom editbox
8.) you're done, click "compile rom" and lean back.
yes, rom cooking was never that easy and enjoyable
last warning, use this at your own risk. this is beta software. i'm not responsible if your device gets damaged during any of this nor is your provider or xda-developers.
edit: ai ai ai, i cant believe i've actually packaged the "branded sheep".. sorry guys... it's fixed now contains the real vanilla rom
besides that you can now download the thing without any rom at all...
download: http://rapidshare.com/files/18812655/_romkoch_full.rar.html (with wm6.0 vanilla rom)
download: http://rapidshare.com/files/18811961/_romkoch_light.rar.html ( without wm6.0 vanilla rom )
installation notes: v0.1 has a small bug that prevents you from having foldernames with spaces so for this first release install to c:\xda-dev\kitchen or something like that.. make sure there are no spaces
well done, thanks for the kitchen!
WOW! This has been a big week for the hermes. Thanks dutty for a great and easy way to use a lot of great tools. Thanks for the help and the next step forward!
WOW! That's fantastic!
I'm sorry for asking, but, can *someone* who is good at cooking please provide a tutorial on how to add a program from a .cab file? I have the tools to open the cab file, but, what do I do with the pieces?
Sorry, one final question. The 'clean' WM6 rom.. Is it the vanilla rom? or K's rom? or...?
I'm pretty sure the clean one is vanilla.

seems to be kyphur's rom. I just used the tool to flash a slightly modified rom and it shows xda-live on today screen.
Holy crap, this is gonna take all the technical know-how out of it. On one hand, that's great for people like me because we can start cooking ROMs without knowing what we're doing. On the other hand, that really sucks for people like me because we can start cooking ROMs without knowing what we're doing.
But THANK YOU! Now I can get started and fill in a lot of the gaps later (though I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not).
And Vista compatible, I see? Very nice!

open the cab with wince cab manager, extract files and drag&drop them to the kitchen, edit initflashfiles.dat to tell the specific location of the files on imgfs, if the cab also contains registry settings add them to default.hv (or user.hv if the settings are on HLMU), that should be enough for most of the apps
Thanks Dutty !
WIll test this right away be flashing my Extra Device.

yup, the first 2 splash screen are installed in the same way as we upgrade the ROM of a device, and the third splash its either installed by a .cab or directly replaced in the windows directory.

help needed: new bootscreen for our Atom

I want to change the 3 bootscreens of our Atom, but I'm not good at photoshop nor designing. Any helps from you are appreciated.
1.The pictures' size must be 240px x 320px x 96dpi, in both .bmp and .png
2.It should contain the text "Atom" for our unique devices.
3.One more thing, Atom is not from HTC so I think we don't need the HTC logo
The credit will come to the most beautiful chosen one.
Thank you so much......................
I really need your helps, please......................................
Below is the picture from jiggs' rom, which is the second bootscreen. Maybe what I talk above is not clear about the size of the picture so you can find some infos about the picture yourself

thanks, I saw them b4, but the screens were too black, and they are in .png not in .bmp. I tried to convert them to .bmp but they have a white lign at the left and bottom of the screen when Atom reboots.
If you can just convert and rename them as BootScr.bmp and put one of them into \windows you will have the new second bootscreen.
btw, more details about our bootscreen at the first post
thanks

I have this Bootscreen on my Prophet ROM
The Black Touch X .. I can change it to Black Atom if u like...
and If you want it.
just PM me or answer me at this thread..

okay fellas, time to learn how to change the 1st bootscreen on your atom.
1. prepare your 1st boot screen 240 X 320 in bmp format
2. flip vertical (Must!!) and save it. file size is 230,454 bytes
3. Open your bmp file with Hex Editor (e.g. XVI32)
now you can change your 1st bootscreen either in nk.exe (inside xip during cooking) or on the diskimage_Ver.nb0
=====================================================
on ATOM/ATOM Pure
xip mode.
1. goto nk.exe, open S000 file with hex editor.
2. the existing 1st bootscreen bmp file from address 3CD0 to 3C103
3. you may replace it with your bmp (cut & paste to that range address)
diskimage_Ver.nb0
1. open diskimage_Ver.nb0 file with hex editor.
2. the existing 1st bootscreen bmp file from address 184CDC to 1BD111
3. you may replace it with your bmp (cut & paste to that range address)
=====================================================
on ATOM EXEC
xip mode.
1. goto nk.exe, open S000 file with hex editor.
2. the existing 1st bootscreen bmp file from address 3D50 to 3C185
3. you may replace it with your bmp (cut & paste to that range address)
diskimage_Ver.nb0
1. open diskimage_Ver.nb0 file with hex editor.
2. the existing 1st bootscreen bmp file from address 184D5C to 1BD191
3. you may replace it with your bmp (cut & paste to that range address)
=====================================================
done!, enjoy your own 1st bootscreen on your device
** I'll assume you already know how to replace the block data (range address) in Hex Editor **
cheers!!
Thanks for the details chartreux, from your post now I know one more way to change the first bootscreen (in diskimage_Ver.nb0)
Now we need a completely new Boot screen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only EXT package if someone wants to make a cab your welcome
After the feedbacks from the diamond keyboard to qvga I never will make a cab again
Mediafire download link
the original idea of the skin came from the RR33 HTC Sense like dialer skin(but it only skined the dialpad)
Ok we need some more info:
this dialer is only portrate (can rotate but no dialing in landscape)
this dialer has video dialing (there is no conference call)
this needs to be cooked into a rom to work as it should.
WVGA version
And here is the WVGA version I'll add some screens later tonight if I find the time
Topaz Hero Dialer 3g
could maybe use this one too
It's cool, thanks man, i will try
There's no landscape support for this dialer right?
Would really like to try a cab... is there anybody willing to cab it up please? Thanks gullum!
thanks for your great work......but i've got a little problem (see picture)
awesome work mate i would cab it up if i knew how to
just curious, is anyone able to port this to WQVGA?
cheers gullum!

there needs to be a shortcut to phcanvga.exe (amarullz app) in start up folder
great skin, but can't install it. the reg file into phone canvas dir says no valid registry files and when i copy all filesi in windows folder my phone became the wm default dialer. how can i install this skin
ported just from topaz? what about from TP2 ? Just for a landscape mode
would this work on a cdma vga touch pro?
It doesn't have conference call, right?
added wvga to post2 and updated 1. post with a little more info

Thats because it is a PACKAGE FOR ROM COOKING. There is no cab as of yet. If you look at original post check out these bold areas:

EDIT: I went ahead and:
1) Compressed all images and all images inside phcanimages.dll
2) Signed all .dll files (wouldnt install without signatures)
3) Cabbed it all up
5) Edited phcanrc.dll to remove scrollbars
5) Uploaded to my FTP with direct link There is also the uncompressed unsigned cab there which is 14MB compared to 8MB
HERE is the link. I can host for a few weeks, but will most likely remove after that. If Someone needs the uncompressed version let me know and I will sign the dll's and upload again the cab.
DONT FORGET: When installing you need to kill phcanvga.exe and cprog.exe first
EDIT2: Also, I remove phcanoverbmp.dll because most ROMs have this already and it will mess up custom taskbars if overwritten. You can get it attatched to this post.
EDIT 3: Reuploaded corrected cab as per the following few posts.

Let me know if it works ok. I tested on my own cooked ROM installing over the LEO 2G dialer without issue. Just want to make sure it works ok for others(although I am sure there will be a few who "just can't get it" )

Let's say I nearly got it... Unfortunately, I got my custom taskbar nearly wiped out. However, you can see my specs in sign. I'm running Amarullz's WM6.5 position fix (not Showcase, but previous version with no task manager function), which works perfectly even for Resco2010.
I'm attaching screenshot, I've installed modded Amarullz Rhodium dialer, aluke's rev.6 taskbar (and position fix), if that matters. However, thank you so much to both creator and cabber, dialer is even opening Sense contacts and automatically got Italian translation.
EDIT: sorry I changed the screenshot (cause it contained personal infos... ), so I pointed out the issue with red boxes.
Guess I didnt remove phcanoverbmp.dll after all. I will update the cab for others. You could uninstall and reinstall to get taskbar back(after I update the cab which I will do now), or go to windows and delete phcanoverbmp.dll(assuming your taskbar is a cooked in feature), and it will return to the file build into ROM.
The other issues I believe are due to the phcanvga.exe program(it shows the SIP menu area in a fixed size or something). The empty area on the right was not like that when I tested it, is that always there?
EDIT: Reuploaded cab without the phcanOverbmp.dll and am attatching the file to original post for those that need it.

[SPLASH]|Splash screens for HTC EVO View|HTC Flyer

Here are some splash images that can be flashed to the htc evo view. It should work on the flyer but I don't have one to test on.

** Your device must be s-off (nand unlocked) in order to flash/install this image **
Installation instructions:
1. Download nameofsplash.img
2. Reboot your device to bootloader.
3. In a command/terminal prompt enter
Code:
fastboot flash splash1 nameofsplash.img
4. Reboot your device and enjoy your new splash screen.
=================================================
-- Instructions to make your own splash image for flyer/view --
-- For windows --
1. Create an image with the dimensions 1024 height 600 width. Save your image as splash.extension (splash.bmp for example, png works, jpg may but I haven't tested it).
2. Rotate your image 90 degrees counterclockwise (windows image viewer is the easiest/fastest).
3. Download splash.zip and extract to a location of your choice.
4. Open new-splash.txt and edit "splash.png" to reflect your image extension (splash.bmp for example).
5. Save the file as new-splash.bat.
6. Move your image (from step 1) into the directory with the .bat and ffmpeg files.
7. Double click new-splash.bat. You should now have a file in the same directory named splash.img
8. Flash the image via fastboot and enjoy!
** Some Notes **
You will notice two files called pull-480x800.txt and pull-1024x600.txt.
These two files are essentially the same except for the size dimensions.
You will want to save these files as .bat (just like in step 5) after editing the size dimensions and image output extension (bmp instead of png) inside the text file.
After pulling you will have a file named splash.extension in the same directory.
The files use the name splash.extension (splash.img, splash.png, etc.) when pulling/creating
When creating a splash.img, the .bat file will look for an image named splash.extension (where extension is what you specified in step 4)
When pulling an image from splash.img, the .bat file will look for splash.img, rename it to splash-orig.img, and output the image according to the size dimensions and extension specified.
I hope this little writeup was easy to follow. If not please feel free to ask any questions!
Heh.... Cool! Just wish I had a View right now....

The device doesn't matter - the fact that the Flyer is displaying "evo view" is the problem.

I can make the .img files if you provide the image you want. I'm not the best graphic artist but I can make the splash.img with no effort.
I stated evo view because that's the device I have and test on.
Can you make this an .img file for me?

I'm not the best graphic artist. If you can find someone who is a photoshop pro to edit the image I can make the splash. Sorry .
Can I ask how you made these? What tool did you use? What size image?
I've been using nbimg.exe to make these for all of my devices, but everything I make for my Flyer looks completely distorted when I flash. I've successfully flashed all of the .imgs you've created, so I know it's not my device.
here's a good tutorial -
Edit: link broke
You can also use any of the splash screens or boot animations from the Nook Color and there are a bundle of them out there if you do a search. The Nook color and HTC flyer /View screen are the same size.
I will try to have a write up by the end of the week of how I make the splashs as well as the files I used for anybody who wants to try their hand at making splash screens for this device or any other device.

Cool.
Also, I have a question. The splash screen is the HTC screen right? Once the quietly brilliant comes on it is just boot animation.zip correct?
So those who use fast boot this won't work.

You are correct. Whenever you shutdown the tablet completely the splash screen is the first image you see when it powers on. For people like me it's nice to change it since I don't use fastboot in the event I need to get into recovery or bootloader.

Can you tell me if this is the method you're using..?
Create image 600 pixels wide and 1024 high.
Save it as a 24 bit bmp file called splash1 (any name works)
Put the bmp in the nbimg tool directory.
Open cmd and cd to that directory then run command:
Code:
nbimg -F splash1.bmp -w 600 -h 1024
Take the output file and change the extension to .img
Make sure device is in fastboot and run command:
Code:
fastboot flash splash1 C:\nbimg\splash1.img
Thanks in advance.
