How to add a lock button to the Today screen on WM6.5 - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Before I get on to my question as the title states, I'd just like to say that I'm a long time lurker of this site, however this is my first post as you can tell. I've used a number of ROMs for my Sprint Mogul over the last year and a half or so and just want to extend my appreciation to all those that have put so much time and effort into these devices.
Now onto the question at hand,
I have downloaded and loaded up Ryan Mogul's WM6.5 sprint heavy ROM that he listed. And everything is working very smoothly so far. However, I have to say that I'd really like to add a lock button to the Windows Default Today screen. The only way I have found to lock the phone so far is to go to start and then click lock at the bottom left. I have looked through the utils and options and so far the only way to add the lock to the today screen is to get rid of the sliding menu on the today screen and go back to the old style from 6.0-6.1. Can anyone tell me how I can add a lock button to one of the panels on the windows default today screen?
Any help that can be provided is much appreciated.

i found a cab for a program called devicelock 1.2. i installed that and then mapped it to one of the buttons that i don't use (the press and hold for voice command). i find it quicker to use a hard key than to navigate to it. i also added it to the applications panel (or whatever those things are called). i am not sure where the .exe is at but you can manually map it as \windows\start menu\programs\device lock.lnk

Rotate your WM2003SE screen from start menu.

For all of those who are now running SE thanks to dcs and others. Just download this little app, unzip it, run setup when connected via activesync and then add it to your start menu. Works like a charm and saves having to hard map a button to rotate your screen we are already limited to buttons as it is. I just put it at the top of my start menu and can use from any application of course. Thank you guys for all of your hard work.
not bad at all. but what i did was use phm plus; it gives you the short cut icons to the items in the settings folder (like bt, clock, input, etc). in this case i copied the "screen" shortcut and had it appear in the today screen using tdlaunch. just click on the icon and the option for landscape or portrait comes up.
cheers
thanks .. that was a very nice utility ..
Cool, another way is to assign it a hardware button, very easy t flip on the fly.
RE
Hi ZeroXtreme!
If you'll to assign the RotateSE to a hardware button its slower than the default Rotate Screen because of the rotating circle.
I think creating a shotcut on the Today screen launcher program is still a better choice and it can also relieves one of the hardware buttons for other use.
Thnx
Works as intended...
thats weird :? ...
does'nt WM2003SE has a <Rotate Screen> at "Assign a program:" list in Buttons section ?! :?:
in my i-mate JAM i can rotate the screen between 'Portrait' and 'Landscape(right-handed)' by pressing "Record" button
i wonder if xda2 wm2003se has it or not, coz mine gone junk while i'm upgrading to chines rom SE
later 8)
@NightmarE
Yes, it does have the hardware button assignment, the problem is that most of us have already used all the hardware buttons for other tasks, so a Start menu option is a nice solution...
I agree I have upgraded to the blue angel but having it in the start menu is much better than hardmapping it to a button, I posted the app for those who want a different option, if you want to waste a button on just rotation then be my guest but some of like myself don't use screen rotation that often then it is better in the start menu and not on a button that I need, considering I use alot of apps like Microsoft Voice Command.
It os better to have it in the Start Menu than in a Today Screen, if you are in the middle of a app it is easier to just open the Start Menu and rotate than go through settings->screen or close then today then back to the app...
I'm using SPB Pocket Plus and add "rotate screen to the right" to close/minimize dialog ... That's just how I do it. Free Up start menu slot for my other frequently used apps.
Right now I'm quite a happy XDA2 user
use PHM utility to add a shortcut of RotatSE in Task bar near by bluetooth icon it will be like i-mate Jam icon 8) ...
laters
I assinged one hardware button to flip the screenand made the flipting system easily and fast...
Works great on the Treo 700wx. Thanks!
Hi, is ROM version 1.66.00WWE a wm2003SE?
Just tried the software a while ago but it didn't work.
Is there a version of this working on wm2003? just found out that my phone is not wm2003SE version but a wm2003, software not compatible with wm2003. :c
Works ok, but...
Hi.
It works fine, but how I configure it to rotate to the other side (clockwise) ??
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Useful today screen tool

hello, my friend recently purchased the tilt, so naturally I had to commandeer (typo) it. his today screen has a nice button in the top right corner (where the 'x' button is normally located) to access a small menu full of the apps that are running. and the normal list of options are there: end, endall and whatnot.
I was simply wondering if someone is in possession of this plugin.
also, though not AS desired. the tilt apperently is able to have text messaging displayed on his today screen.
You mean HTC X-button? Search for it and be happy
pBar is much more powerfull and better than HTC X-button. Don't know the exact homepage of pbar but you can download it from here. (free registration required)
Regards,
Carty..
Also check out Wktask. One of my favorites.
I use the HTC X-Button..They all seem to work about the same.

Yes, the tilt uses X-button, as does the touch and all future planned HTC buttons. You can find it all over this forum as well as others.
As many users here have already mentioned, there are actually many better options (X-button only shows you that info on the home screen, whereas wktask or my personal favorite- Qmenu, lets u view all your running programs whenever you want. These alternatives also generally use less resources).
As far as the SMS on the today screen... I don't get it, doesn't your titan do this? Whenver I get an SMS, the notification menu pops up on the bottom of the today screen (or any screen really) and shows me all 160 characters of the text message.
QuickMenu_en_2.7
works well for me

Add Special Window Files as icons on Home Screen

I have 6.5 and am using the traditional today screen. I have Spb Pocket Plus for my home screen as my launcher.
Is there any way to add the Lock option that is normally found after you press start in the lower left hand side? I can add any file or program to the launcher, so I just need to know what the name of the lock file is. I'd also like a shortcut to Settings so if you know that name, that'd be great too. I have found running the traditional today screen gives me about 50 free mb's as opposed to barely 10 with TF3d.
heres a cab i made that will use the 6.5 lock and set the LSK for Lock...turn titanium off, install, turn back on...good to go...cant figure out the settings part...im not able to get it to work...hope this helps!!

hero with out the sens

hi-will the hero work without the sens ? i mean will it work with the regular android gui.
like with the tf3d on wm .
thx
Yes it does. Somehow when i press my home button i get the option of either touchflo or home. Not sure how i got it to do this though!
The home one is just the plain android screen..
I got that too, happens if you press and hold home to view running applications. Goes away if you tick the make default action box (until you press and hold home again)
Yeh i noticed that too, also underneath it says something about changing options in settings home etc..
Tis nice to have the option to do this but the fact that you can do it is clearly a bug. I've let HTC know about it (although they are probably following the forums anyway).

It's not a bug lol, the Sense UI home is simply a separate application to the original home instead of a replacement. like aHome, Dxtop etc etc.
also, holding the home button shows you recently run applications, not applications still running =)
Ok i can't do it on my Hero. Why?? i don't know. MY phone is sim free and not from orange or t-mobile. Maby that's why ??
yeah, it only seems to happen on the Orange and T-Mobile ones. It's not supposed to happen at all!
The Ui is indeed just an application, but it is supposed to run instead of the original Home and you aren't supposed to have access to it any more.

If this is the case are the phones faulty then? Do we ring and ask for new ones. ( mine is a bit worn now had it a week)
they all seem to do it. it appears to be a bug in the firmwares.
I'm sat here with a brown sim free one, running 1.76.405.6 and i can not get it to do this, no matter what i try. each method that people have posted to get it to doit, just simply doesn't seem to do it on the unbranded ones.
I saw a preview device back in may, that had the watermarked screen, and that did do it occasionally, but the release one from work doesn't seem to do it.
Normal Android Home On Hero
Guys Its very obviously not a bug, but actually a very cool feature.
If you cant access the original home,
Here's what to do...
Go to Settings - Applications - Manage Applications.
Scroll down to 'TouchFLO' and hit 'clear defaults'
Obviously this will clear the default action of taking you to the TouchFLO or Rosie UI home.
When you have done this every time you press the home button you will have a choice. Home or TouchFLO.
HERE'S THE HANDY THING ABOUT IT...
So far a bunch of apps have either had trouble or not worked at all due to the TouchFLO UI on the hero. And for obvious reasons. So...
Hit home and choose to launch TouchFLO by default (so you don't have the option of the normal android home)
Download Bar Control by the legendary Andrew Schwimmer for free on the market. open it and scroll to home. Click on home and choose an icon from the list. I chose the home icon but go crazy and choose the little android or whatever.
Now you can only go to the TouchFLO home when you press the physical home key but in you notification bar you can tap the home (or whatever icon you chose) icon and go to the original 3 screen android home.
WHY ITS A COOL FEATURE...
When in the original 3 screen android home the sense UI is not taking up foreground processes. as far as I know anyway. Reason I think this is I am a: now able to install and fully use apps that wouldn't work whilst on the Touch FLO home. And b: my Copilot Live Sat Nav works far better with almost no glitches. Thus bringing me to the conclusion that switching homes is a banging idea/feature
Thank you for you time
dmanbwxe
now that IS cool!
even though it is a bug, cos it's not supposed to do it out of the box (although yes, you can fiddle with it) Having the two like that is a nice set up!!
Yet another cool little tweak. you gotta love Android
I registered just so I could say...
Brilliant!

I just spoke with HTC yesterday and asked about this..
Apparently you need to think of Sense UI like TouchFlo on the Windows Mobile. If you don't like it (and some won't) they have allowed the user to choose whether they want the original or Touch Flo.
So looks like it is not a bug, but its actually meant to do this.
Nice going I say, pleases everyone, and also..... Nice to know that the phone is very fast and responsive without Sense UI, meaning that like Touch Flo 3D, its just a tweaking game to get it to work flawlessly and smoothly, which will come in the future.
@dmanbwxe
just to clarify then- after going through all the steps you said there, pressing home will return to touchflo home as it did before, as if nothing was changed, yes? Definitely not bringing up a menu to pick which home I want?
EDIT- double post
I did this and saw a very significant performance improvement, so set 'Home' to be my default. Now I always go to the standard Android screen. In the settings menu the default option is now grayed out and holding home doesn't give me an option. Is there anyway to get sense back? I don't want to keep it, but would like to play with it some more, but mainly just have the option, I guess.
Oh, without going back to factory defaults ;-)
Homeswitcher did the trick for me (available in the market)

[APP][WM6.5+] DeviceLockXT - A fix for the Windows Classic Lock Screen [UPDATED v1.1]

On WM6.5 and WM6.5.x you have the option of using the new sliding lock screen. I for one prefer to use the old 'Windows Classic' lock screen (i.e. the one where you have to tap the soft key then an unlock button like in WM6.1, see images), as it uses less memory and allows me to see the today screen. However, on many ROMs for HTC phones, even stock ROMs, it doesn't seem to work properly with regards to incoming calls.
When you receive an incoming call, the lock screen pops up asking you to tap unlock, but it is unresponsive and obscures the caller ID screen, meaning you can't see who's calling you or the accept / reject slider. On phones / ROMs were it does work properly, you sometimes still have to press the unlock button manually before you can do anything.
This had annoyed me for ages and I couldn't find a solution, so since I am learning C++ at uni, I decided to try and teach myself Win32 programming and create a a program to fix it. The result was this little utility, my first windows mobile app
The program basically just sits and waits for an incoming call, and when the system notifies it of one, if the device is locked it waits for the unlock screen to pop up and then very quickly presses the '*' key. The result is that the device unlocks before the screen messes up, allowing you to see the dialler! The app is very lightweight (executable is only ~6KB), fast (native code), and does not use the CPU whilst idle since it makes use of the windows messaging notification system. Should theoretically work on any resolution on any device, but I've only tested it on my Touch Pro2 (WVGA).
I originally made this just for myself, but XDA Developers has been so useful to me over the years I thought it would be nice to share it with you guys For this reason it is provided as is, I may or may not add to it. I'll try and fix any bugs and stuff if they arise, but I'd like to keep it a simple, lightweight app.
VERSION HISTORY:
1.0 - Initial Release
1.1 - Multilingual support. If v1.0 works for you, you don't have to upgrade but you can if you like.
Fixed the bug that causes program to crash if not using an English ROM.
Removed message box that tells you you're using the sliding lock. Program now just exits silently.
CAB file now changes the registry key to disable the sliding lock screen for you.
INSTALLATION:
I've attached the EXE in a zip file, simply unzip, place it on your device somewhere and run it to activate the program. Run it again to exit the program. You might like to place a shortcut in \Windows\Startup. The program will not run if you have the WM6.5 sliding lock enabled, you need to have set:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\LockScreen] "Enable"= dword:00000000 (obviously).
I've also made a cab file which just simply places the EXE in \Program Files\DeviceLockXT, and creates a startup shortcut and the reg key for you, if you prefer
If you already have DeviceLockXT installed and are installing a newer version, you probably need to stop the old one from running first, and you should probably uninstall the old CAB before installing the new one. I don't know what difference it will make if any.
Enjoy!
DISCLAIMER: In the unlikely event that this program damages your device / causes you to lose data / kills your cat / whatever, I am not responsible. Use at your own risk.
Feel free to include it in a custom ROM if you like!
This looks interesting. Like you, I also do not like the latest lock screen (I've been searching forever for a better one). Does yours support PIN lock? And if you wouldn't mind, I think it'd be cool to see a screenshot (or just a google image), I'm not sure if I remember the classic lock screen you are referring to...
Certainly! Images added & first post updated
The reason I like it is that it isn't a lock screen as such, more of a lock softkey. This allows you to see through to the lovely HTC flip clock when the phone is locked / you turn it on to see the time. You only see the rather ugly looking grey screen when you want to unlock the device.
The program will run if you have PIN lock enabled, but there is no need to use the program in this case, it will literally sit there doing nothing. If you are using the PIN lock then the dialler screen works fine, at least on my phone anyway
To use the Windows Classic Lock Screen with a PIN just set:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\LockScreen]
"Enable"=dword:00000000
Then enable a PIN in Settings > Lock and you're good to go! No need to install my program You can also set:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\LockScreen]
"ShowLockScreenPicker"=dword:00000001
To get an extra tab in Settings > Lock which lets you change lock screen without editing the registry.
EDIT: There is not supposed to be a space between the c and r in LockScreen in the reg keys, don't know why the forum does that.
I'm also a fan of the "Windows Classic Lock Screen", and have encountered the same problem that you describe!
So thanks a lot for this great tool, I'm trying it ASAP.
i see your point of locking and seeing at the same time your home screen right there and then and i think i'm liking it. i'll give it a try. any chance to change the "ugly" gray unlock screen to something else? a simple black one would be good for me, or better still to a customized background.
edit: btw, does this work on stock wm 6.5? it says 6.5+ in your post.
Yup, I meant 6.5+ as in 6.5 and above (including both 6.5 and 6.5.x)
Not that I know of, the grey screen is part of the windows mobile locking program itself so I don't think it can be easily changed. On some ROMs I have tried the grey screen is skipped entirely, unlocking straight away when you press the softkey, but this is tied to something at the ROM level I think. So it's possible, but I don't have the time or ability to figure it out
Another way to do it would be to write your own locking program from the ground up that mimics the standard windows classic one, then you could do what you like, which interestingly is what I tried initially. But it was much harder than I thought! Defeats the point of utilising what is already on your phone though, which is what I like to to (minimal 3rd party software).
I repeat my program is NOT a stand alone lockscreen, but a utility to hopefully make the built in one work properly. In my opinion the windows classic lock is fine as it is, apart from the issue my program aims to fix
Great job!
This little app works very well and it does what it promises.
The grey screen is something that I've seached how to change for quite some time, but haven't found nothing. It would be very cool if we could edit it!
This is just awesome...thanks so much for sharing...
What about cooking this program into ROM? Is it fine to do so?
Yeah sure, it says so at the very end of the first post (under 'Disclaimer')
Uch, sorry, I never read disclaimers or other important notes.
Keep up great work. I'll include this software into my ROMs if I don't find anything annoying
thank you very much.this problem is annoying me for a long time,i'll have a try.is this work well,i'll get a reply.wish it work well and jack use it in his roms~
It's work very well in my phone, thank you very much~good job~
Been using this for a day or so now...no complains...works as intended. Thank you!
i find a problem with the app.when i use the app,the screenlight is turn on and turn off,it's change all the time.when i use the swith button to turn off the screen light, the screen light will turn on soon.and if i close the app ,the screen light became well.what's the wrong?can you help me ?
I'm not sure what would be causing that behaviour, what device are you using? What version of windows mobile / ROM are you using? Do you have any other screen lock type apps installed?
It is nice
but unfortunately it works only for WM6.1
i hope i can find one for WM6.5
