[Q] Arduino Mega ADK and JellyBean - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey folks, I've been trying to get the Arduino Mega ADK to work with two of my devices and so far I'm been totally unsuccessful. Both my Nexus S and Nexus 7 seem to do nothing with connected to the Mega ADK.
So, here are the details and hopefully someone can help out.
First off, I'm experienced with Arduinos and µCs. I'm 100% sure that I've correctly compiled and flashed the demo sketch onto the ADK. In the serial monitor I can see that the ADK will boot and attempt to get the Android device to do something and fails (it tries this continually unless a device successfully enters accessory mode and responds).
Both these devices are supposed to have support for the ADK and I've checked the devices and both have the correct .xml and .jar files for doing so. However, I'm currently running CM10 on both devices and I'm wondering if perhaps the kernel doesn't have the accessory mode enabled or if there's another stumbling block inherent to CM10.
Doing some google research I see that certain updates (4.0.3) have broken ADK support in the past, so perhaps it's just a Jellybean issue? Is there a way of checking kernel options or flashing a kernel known to work? I'd like to narrow down some of the possible issues here.

Hey mate!
I had the same issue, I fixed by using the library version 2 from labs.arduino.cc/ADK. You can download it directly from here: labs.arduino.cc/uploads/ADK/GettingStarted/ArduinoADK-beta-001.zip.
From what I've read the problem is that Android 4.1 uses adk version 2 and has some incompatibilities with the previous version.
Best,
Alex
PD) Sorry for not hotlinking can't do it yet with this account

I've been using that version and still get no response from the Android device. I suppose I'll have to flash stock 4.1 and see if that works, Sadly there's very little proper documentation on this and not a lot of people seem interested in accessory mode devices.

I got the same USB error. I haven't figured out the problem yet, but I was able to get another example from the version 2 adk library working with jelly bean. I think it was called termtime or something like that. It recognizes the phone the and will pop up saying theres an arduino accessory attached and there is no application to open for that accessory. You can change the example code to "Google" and "Demokit" to auto launch the Demokit.apk app.
I just got this arduino adk two days ago and only have one Android device, a Samsung Captivate with slimbean rom, to test it on.

[Q] Avaya Flare

I just got a batch of the Avaya Flare Experience tablets... They sent us ten of them as a part of a major order. (it was cheaper to get the package)
Since these are Android-based, I figure there has to be a way to root them.
Anyone interested in working on this?
I have carte blanche since no one wants one while they're all Avaya'ed up.
If they're rooted as regular Android tablets, I'm sure my team will be interested in them.
Unfortunately, I have no idea where to begin.
Any thoughts on breaking the startup sequence or where to start with rooting these?
Thanks!
Ven
Played around the device on my office was able to load an x86 android live usb boot a bit buggy cam not working and some other stuffs but since the infra project was scrapped its much usable than stock firmware. Not realy sure but if the divers were properly loaded and the usb image repacked with flare drivers would eliminate the bugs in any case its a nice tablet to tinker with
here are some proof of concept pics and stuffs , and yeah need a usb keyboard for input, a usb mouse can also be attach , wifi working, touch working, some games will not run/crash since majority of stuff on google play is not optimized / coded for x86
What was the software that you used ? that version?

Hi, if you searched for it on Google and XDA (as I just did to check), it likely has not been rooted yet. Sorry! The best thing you could do is to google search and search XDA every week or so, maybe something will turn up soon!
I might get one of these, as they're $100 on Target's website for Cyber Monday.
Not enough people have them for someone to invest the time into rooting, but a common root method might work...

Got mines at walmart for $79. I have the same kernel as him except my firmware version is 4.0.3.
Still can't find anything on this damn tablet. Almost wish I didn't buy it heheh.
Supposedly root is available on M-270 but I still can't install Superuser. su is present in xbin too. I tried to use superoneclick and it said it was rooted then I tried to continue with root anyway and it froze. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution yet?

I successfully rooted my Maylong M270 by using the software in the linked thread. I was able to install Google Play, and from there I updated SuperUser and BusyBox. Titanium Backup works properly. Without a custom kernel, overclocking is impossible for the moment, and I'm not too sure on how a kernel (or custom recovery and ROM for that matter) can be ported, but the root is here and working.

I call bogus on this post. I tried both means to root the Maylong M270 using this method and it does not work. Instead of just posting "I DID IT", why not help out the users and post HOW you did it... simply following the links and downloads on the post you've referenced doesn't do it.

I know it's been way long since the OP, but a tool called "ICS root" (can be found on SourceForge) will unlock this tablet. The device is a bit temperamental so once you run the .bat in terminal, you will have to manually restart and log back into the tablet before continuing each prompt at the terminal. Eventually after 2 -3 prompts, the .bat will be finished and the tablet will "update Android", a sign that you have successfully rooted.
Good luck all.

However, I'm not allowed to post links, since I have not posted before. So I'm going to post this info in a series of posts, hoping that by the end, links will be allowed.
To find more info on your tablet there is an app in the Play store called CPU Identifier that will tell you what type of board you have in the tablet. Search for that board name on XDA to find rooting advice.

Custom ROM and ROOT for Maylong M-270
But the short story is, there is a way to root this tablet, but even better there is a custom ROM available. HardcoreHacker over at "techknow dot me" has been working hard on this. The key to figuring this out was realizing the WM8950 SOC chip set used in this tablet is the same as the WM8850. They are interchangeable. The rom is called Uberoid and is Jellybean 4.1.1, and it works great. My tablet runs very well now, and doesn't lock up all the time like it used to. I also have a link where you can download the original firmware from Maylong. So I'm trying to get some posts here so I can do a proper link, however here are some ugly links to try.
Original Firmware:
maylonggroup dot com forward slash Tablet_downloads.htm
and Uberoid Link
3w's "dot" techknow "dot" me "forward slash" forum "forward slash" index.php?topic=5356.0
Again, I apologize for the very cryptic links - I will work on getting them posted properly. I have two of these tablets and both are running Uberoid. I'm very satisfied with it. The only issue I have (on both tablets) is the battery monitoring is very poor. But this is in the kernel I think because it is the same as it was before the custom ROM.
NOTE! - as you will see on the Maylong Site, there are two different models of this tablet - You can tell which you have based on your serial number, but I think this is a pretty important distinction. If you have the same model as I do, you are going to need JingHan_MID7_V715_8228_FT5206.fwc from the Uberoid List. My model's serial number is M2701204 which is in the same group as M2701202, M2701203, and M2701205)

[Q] Install Android on Meizu MX3

Dear all,
Has anybody so far successfully installed an Android Rom on the Meizu MX3?
Any hint would be mostly appreciated!
I could not find anything via Google or forum search...
Cheers
Julian
I realize this is reviving an old-ish thread, but I too am interested in any info regarding the above.
Due to high pricing, the MX3 is a possible option for me soon.
Hey iSilence,
I have not made any progress so far on the issue. However, I managed to install the Google Playstore and thereby got most of the relevant software related functions I need on the MEIZU.
Would still prefer a nice Android on that machine.
Cheers

From what I've found out till now, the issue with Meizu is that the bootloader is locked.
The furthest people have gotten was to install MIUI on the MX2, and there are a few fixes/mods for the MX3.
MIUI may be possible on the MX3, the device is still pretty fresh so there's hope.
I don't know about stock Android though. One can hope.

G02 kernel source and config
Hi,
Thanks for these ROMs - working great on my ATV1220 (G02).
Please could you point me at the source code and config used for the kernel build? I see some kernel repos at https://github.com/CoreTech-Development but none that seem new enough given that the release changelog suggests that a kernel from March 2014 is being used.
Has anyone tested any of these roms on Bluetimes MX5 G02ref box.

Mygica atv1200 rebooting over and over
I tried to install the mx Linux build for atv1200 posted in the forum here. it said to run the conversion file first then flash the latest release for geniatech/mygica atv1200. I made the sdcard up following the instructions in the readme file included. when I popped the sdcard in and did the upgrade process, it booted to a screen with the Linux penguin, and a yellow progress bar. I seemed to finish then reboot. but it has been doing that same process over and over for the last hour, and it seems not to be working. I tried to revert back to android but it would not boot. I tried making bootable sdcard with geniatech uboot bin, and mygica rom, but it woin't boot. then I made the sdcard with the mx Linux conversion files again, and it boots, but just keeps rebooting with the penguin screen and the progress bar. any help would be greatly appreciated. seems like there are not a lot of people having the same problem cause I cannot find a solution anywhere.

Amlogic M3
I managed to flash an early xios linux "the hydra" xbmc onto my amlogic droid stick but the wifi is completely gone which makes it hard to do anything. For some reason my unit doesn't have a bootloader, nor a reset button (so i'm doing the advancedlauncher -> sh -> reboot recovery way in xbmc) and there doesn't seem to be any other recovery roms available for it.
Figured i'd try the M3 linux from here, but apparently this is configured to assert a getprop for specific hardware. I can change that myself, but when i sign the zip my unit refuses to go past that verification. With this rom the signing verification is fine, but assertion fails. I can fix that myself but how did you go about and sign the zip? I've tried a few different ways (apksigner, jarsigner) to no avail. There is very little information on what recovery (3e) actually checks, any clues on how to resolve that? (All it says is signature verification failed when i sign, with test keys and self made other keys).

Codesnake help needed
I have a square s802 M8. I recently tried several different OpenELEC zips, most zips received NO FOOTER errors and would not install but most of the ones that did install, did not have any access to wireless networks under OpenELEC settings. Including Codesnakes ROMs. They would not allow access to wireless networks. So, I finally came across a Russian zip on xbmc.ru that installed and it is the latest developer zip found at: OpenELEC-Amlogic.S82.arm-devel-20150113183017-r20272-g0481f0c.zip. After zipping it to the s802, I realized it is for the S82. It still worked but it seems to have some bugginess. It is getting stuck on the opening stream window and the working spinning wheel is getting stuck too often. I am used to Stane's MX Linux and got spoiled with speed. Please help, I need a network working .zip with audio/video synced properly and speed. Any suggestions on a more suitable ROM zip? All of codesnake's OpenELEC ROMs seem to not have wireless networks enabled. Is there a way to have ethernet hooked up after installing codesnake's zip and then get wireless by downloading a network setting addon or enabling an OpenELEC setting feature??

Is it possible to patch pokemon go to work on 4.3. Jelly Bean? Or get a beta version?

Hi Guys,
I really looked forward to playing Pokemon Go and was really shocked when i saw that the release version of it supports just android 4.4. kitkat and onwards but no older versions. My phone is stuck on 4.3 jellybean and cant be rooted so im sitting here sadly now I already managed to get the app installed by using Gmaps patcher, it also starts but won`t let me sign in via google or pokemon club. So now im asking you guys at xda, who are the most amazing guys in android scene, is there ANY possibility to make it work on android 4.3 jelly bean? The fact that it was planned for 4.3. in the beginning and beta testers claimed it would work on that version leaves me with al glance of hope.
Here are some ideas i have as a noob:
Since its possible to install the game and make it run, but just signing in wont work i guess the app is not far from running on 4.3. On top of that the games developer and beta testers claimed it working on 4.3 and onwards. So i guess in early stages it already WAS running on 4.3. Maybe it can be patched or modified in a way that it will work? If so, is anybody willing to work on that proect? Im affraid me as a noob is no option.
The Fact that beta testers and the developer said it would work on 4.3 might mean that an older version or beta version would run on 4.3.? Is there anybody who has a old/beta/field test version to test that?
Is there any other option? Or is it complete hopeless? Please try to help me, i was waiting for this great game so long and now i cant pay it, while all my friends do

Ah that sucks. I think there are some apps that where being back portet. If it's viable to Pokémon go too i dont know through.

Thank you for our answer. Maybe someone knows if this gets packported maybe? Im sure lots of people would appreciate much.
You can dowload 0.13.5 version.that work.
you can't install apk files that uses higher API level (Pokemon GO, 19) on older Android version (Jelly Bean, 16). It's like trying to use a remote tv controller like a cellphone, you're trying to use a function that your system doesn't have. i don't think a generic patcher can solve this and i don't know where you found that apk, but you should be careful of what you install on your device. Anyway, out of curiosity i checked for you, given the possibility that for some "strange" reason Niantic decided to set the minimum sdk level to 19 without really use any functions that is not supported in Jelly Bean (whaaa? so why use higher API level than? maybe cause if you are running on KitKat you are 90% running on a "new" device, this is faster than making a list of hundreds of compatible phones). Worst case scenario is that you will get a NoClassDef exception (probably) and of course app crash.
(the following is not a piracy attemp, we are not trying to hack anything. it's intended for learning purpose and to satisfy your curiosity)
ok, let's start :
so, you need to set minimum sdk to Jelly Bean level (16)
to do this , you will need to edit the AndroidManifest.xml file, inside the apk, adding this line
("<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="16">)
and of course deleting any labels or parameters that are not recognized by 16 API level (in Pokemon Go case : things like android :isGame, android : banner, etc..)
(oh..but you can't just edit the manifest inside the apk, that is compiled. you need to decompile it first)
even if doing this doesn't break the app (very improbable) now you need to recompile it again (just for obtain a new compiled manifest file, that you can inject in the original app using Winrar/Winzip..infact .apk are just jar/zip files).
of course, we can always just edit the compiled manifest, just need to be able to read, unreadble anti human characters.
so, now it's "working" on android 4.1 , but can't get past splash screen, hangs after that

i don't think you should distribute a modded apk, even if it's free
anyway i'm really curious, can you tell me what you did? i'm hitting a roadblock
oo
Could we go the other direction? Is it possible to install the required libraries that 4.1/4.3 is missing and fake the system version to Pokemon Go?
Mine wont install at all on 4.3

Does it? Will it work in North America, and can you change the language to English? From what I've seen, this is the Japanese beta release.
A trustworthy download link would be nice as well, as there are some fishy apk's floating around.
I have a Galaxy Stardust S766C (a tracphone) with Jellybean 4.3. Any chance in hell that mod will work for me?

actually, Pokemon Go can be installed on Android 4.1. it hangs after the splashscreen because it can't "see" some .so files (even if they are inside lib folder). it seems to be cause of a different behaviour of dlopen on different Android platforms.
i'm trying to get a list of dependences for that libray and see if it can be workarounded

If you managed to get this working, you would be an absolute hero.
The same ZeonZs, ZTE Blade Q with android 4.2.2 and a black screen...
Good luck Jumpersize, we count on you !! :good:
