[Q] How to install amazon app store on 1.4.3 - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I have a NT with 1.4.3 and it's rooted with Play Store fine and dandy but I want Amazon Appstore also as I own alot of good apps on there from free app of the day. Tried but it wont let me install. Is there a way to get it working on 1.4.3?

Been awhile since I was on rooted stock..,which apk did you use and what did the error message say?

Ok I figured out how to get it to work. Problem was downloading via wrong browser apparently when I was downloading i would always push the "n" button and select web. When I did the following though it worked perfectly fine. Though I will be updating to CM10 seeing as it has been confirmed I have a 16GB and not the 8GB I paid for
Step-by-step:
1) Press "n" button
2) Press "Home"
3) Press "ADW.Launcher"
4) Press the globe (browser) button on the launch pad on bottom of screen
5) Go to http://www.amazon.com/amazonappstoreapp
6) Bottom left corner notification tray will say "amazonappstore.apk Successfully downloaded) Select it
7) Choose Package Installer from the pop-up window
8) Press Install
9) Enjoy!!!

I downloaded the app store app to my sd card on my 1.4.3 NT and whenever I try to select the package, it tells me the nook only allows apps bought from the nook store...any ideas how to get around this?

In the nook hidden settings you need to allow apps from unknown sources. I got rid of stock root a while ago, but I think you can download it from Google play.

I think I'm going to give up on this one. I had to google what an app drawer is, then, once I found it, I still couldn't find the right security setting to allow me to download from unknown whatevers, and I have to figure out how to download google play after I get the Apk thing downloaded, so I can then download the app store. Ya'll are hella smart because I'm completely lost and so tired of googling everything under the sun, I'm over it, I even tried to read a crash report that was code ugh, so much for doing it on my own. Thanks for helping me out, though, I do appreciate it and kudos to those of you who can sideload and root your devices because that's a whole other ballgame!

It sounds to me like you haven't rooted your Tablet. You need to do that. When doing that Google apps (incuding Google Play store) will be installed. If NT Hidden settings isn't already installed by the root you can find it in the Play store.
I describe rooting under "B" in this post:

Until ROM's are available, Here is how I set up my Nook Tablet

These are the steps I used to set up my Nook Tablet and get it set up the way I wanted it. I have tweaked it even more but this is how I got to where I am now. I hope this collection of links to information may help others be as happy with their Nooks as I am with mine.
I am happy to have access to the Amazon ecosystem including buying apps from their app store and watching Amazon's instant streaming video as well as the Google Market and B&N Store. All this with the ability to access Netflix's HD content, an MicroSD slot, beautiful screen, sufficient processor & RAM leads me to feel that this is the best tablet for the money on the market today.
I would like to also thank Indirect, anlog, Loglud, gojimi, romified, t-r-i-c-k, robertely, Brad Linder and all of the other developers and XDA members that have worked on Nook tweaks and/or shared information for the benefit of others.
Just to be clear, I am nobody, I haven't created or worked on anything. I just mined all of this information for my own benefit and I thought I would post a copy of what I have found in a single post for those that follow. On an unrooted tablet (not sure if it makes a difference), I just downloaded the APK and ran it like the others. Installed and ran without issue.

Does anybody have a link to the SWIPEPAD apk file by any chance? Unfortunately I am only side-loading, hence my problem getting it via the traditional market.
I really have tried to get this a number of ways, and in a number of locations, but have kind of hit a roadblock! What's ironic is that it would have been quicker for me to ROOT my device and load it via google, rather than waste the time I put into trying to side-load it LOL!!!

[HOW-TO] Amazon App store on your Nook Tablet

I have seen several posts with people having issues trying to use the Amazon app store or install apps from the Amazon app store on their nook, so I decided to write up this brief guide.
1) You MUST have an SDCard installed BEFORE installing the Amazon app store. The reason for this is that the Amazon app store uses an SDCard to store certain information/cache/etc. While you can can get some things to install without an SDCard, you won't get all your apps to install without one. So if you want to install all your stuff from the Amazon app store, put an SDCard in your Nook FIRST.
2) From your Nook tablet, you can install the Amazon Appstore by typing in the following URL: www.amazon.com/amazonappstoreapp
3) You CAN use the same Amazon app store login on multiple devices. I currently have 2 HTC EVO3D phones and the Nook tablet all using the same login. The advantage of this is that if you (like me) have been grabbing free app of the day for a long time now, you will also have access to these on your Nook tablet.

hey is it possible for an app from the amazon app store to not be compatible with the NT? i think today's free app isn't compatible with the NT because it simply says so when I try to install it...
Probably. There are a lot of apps on the normal Android market that aren't compatible with the NT. The difference between them and the free app of the day is that they just don't show up normally. The free app shows up for everyone, since it's part of the "Advertising" section of the store.

I'm working with a rooted NT.
I uninstalled the amazon app using an uninstaller from the Android market.
I removed the SD card, which was not in there the first time I turned on the NT.
Turned off the NT
Deleted all contents on the SD card and reinserted it.
Turned on the NT
Installed the Amazon App
Signed in
Tried to install a few apps, but keep getting "Unable to install - This application was not able to install onto your device. Please "Archive" and then "Unarchive" the application to try again.
Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot this?
Thanks!

This is what happens when you try to install a non-Nook app using the BN App Installer instead of the Android Package Installer. You need to navigate to the Manage Applications menu (get to it from NT Hidden Settings app, or the applications menu of ADW or Zeam, or any other possible way) and find App Installer. Click on it and then click the button that says "clear defaults." This should bring up a menu next time you install an app where you will choose to install with Package Installer, and set this as default. You should be good to go from there on (unless you try to install an app that is not designed for tablets/NT as indicated above).

Thank you for the assistance!
When I went there, no defaults were set. I went back to install an app and I still get the same error message, but originally I wasn't specific enough and left out this step:
I get a popup menu when I choose to install or reinstall an app and it asks me:
Complete action using - App Installer or Package installer.
If I choose app installer, I get the error mentioned. If I choose package installer, I get Parse error - There is a problem parsing the package.
remove sd card and put back in.
remove sd card and reboot and put back in.
it's something to do with the sd card.
Package Installer is what you should be using. From my experience, 'parsing error' has meant that the app is not compatible with the NT. So far these have included BeWeather, multiple games from Gameloft, and a drawing pad app from Amazon.

Well then that is probably worth trying also. Now that I think about it there are some apps that I tried to sideload and got a parsing error, then when I tried to install with Root Explorer they did work (but not all have). So I guess this only makes the error more unclear...

Worked for me. Worked with my old root, and now with Indirect's updated root script too.
Recently re-rooted after 1.4.1 update. Used Indirect's updated root script.
Is there some regional thing with the Amazon Appstore? I'm from England, on holiday in the US and I picked up a Tablet. I installed the amazon appstore fine and it worked and i tried to get it to download the free version of ES File Manager and everytime it starts it pops up with a payment issue and takes me to a webpage to sign in to add my payment details. I have a UK credit card attached to my account and figured that would be fine considering I'm not even paying for anything as its free but it wont let me. So can people outside the US without a US credit card use the mazon appstore? Also how do you get the Amazon App store icon to show up in the apps area? Once I leave the store the only way I can get it back is by re-installing it which is not ideal.

[HOW-TO] Install apps not showing up in Marketplace

Note: Root access is required in order for this to work.
Since I've found a workaround to install apps not showing up in the marketplace and haven't seen anyone address the issue other than rewriting system files, I thought I'd post this for people who (like me) don't know how to use the first method.
1) search for the app you want on Google in your browser, ie "xxx android"
2) click on the result leading to the Marketplace website (IMPORTANT: be sure to open the link with your browser and not the Market!)
3) click the "Install" button
4) you will be prompted to login, enter your info (you should only have to do this once)
5) this time, choose to open with Market when prompted
6) click the "Install" button and your app will download!
Hope this helps anyone

When I try this method, the search finds the program I'm looking for but as soon as I log in and open with "Market", not the browser, it replies with "Program not found". So I guess it doesn't work for me.
Thanks for the suggestion, anyway.

What app did you try? I can try the same one and see if it works for me. If it does, I'll try to see what went wrong.

It was iBird Pro. It cost money, but just try to get to the point to where it try's to confirm whether or not you really want to pay for it.
Thanks,
rodorr
Its not working for me either which leads me to believe its the app. Go ahead and try another free app just to see if the method even works.

Worked perfectly with Evernote.
Thanks a ton, less hunting for apks now
I checked Evernote, and Evernote shows up as downloadable for the Nook Tablet without using the work around.

Oh, well then... I feel stupid? Edit: I didn't see it when I tried searching for it in the Market app.
Just tried it with Google Maps and no dice.
Ok, I tried AVG Mobilation Anti-Virus Pro, and it came back with something like "Sorry but you can't download because you haven't paid for it" and then I got the good old "! Your device isn't compatible with this item".

I don't understand how this can work - if apps aren't showing up in the Market on your tablet, surely that's because Market thinks they're not compatible with your NT. And if that's the case, when you sign into your account in the browser, the same thing would happen of not letting you send the app to devices it doesn't think are compatible?
In browser, the Market doesn't even list my NT as one of my devices, even though I'm signed into the Market app on my NT. Any thoughts on this?
I've had this method work twice and fail a couple times. At step 5 when it opens up the market the app still shows as incompatible but it downloads it anyway.
Torrential91, can you give me an example of an app that this worked correctly for you?
rodorr
I just had it work for Real Racing 2 free version.
I tried it with facebook, but there was no download option, just a note saying it was not compatible with my device.
This method was successful in getting to the app page where i could not before.
I tried "Real Racing 2" and it did indeed work for me. It gave me the message "Your device isn't compatible with this item" but it went ahead and downloaded it anyway. So it does work with some items. Maybe it just doesn't work if there is a cost associated with the item.
rodorr
I know Google maps worked for me. I believe Tumblr also worked this way.
Seems like this method is hit or miss. Can't really say why =/ I'm not a dev in any way, just a guy that experiments with trial and error haha.
Maybe a dev can chime in on this?

Problem with Nook Tablet...

I went and made it so my NT was 1.4.0 and then blocked it using the OTA update provided by AdamOutlier(sp?) and the version number says 9.9.9 now. However, I installed the Go Launcher Ex. Unfortunately, I accidentally clicked the button 'keep as default' and then clicked the normal Nook Tablet home button. So now I can no longer get to the the GO Laucher. Is there a way to get it back? Unable to locate any setting that I can change it back to.

Absolutely. There's a great app in the Android Market called Default App Manager Lite. It's free and it allows you to clear default apps, including what your home button is sent to.
Here's a link to the app's market page; if you access it from your Nook's browser you should be able to open it in the Market:

Here's a link to the app's market page; if you access it from your Nook's browser you should be able to open it in the Market:

Unfortunately, im unable to use the market with my device as i do not beluve it is actually rooted. Which is wierd bc I ran the nook and zergy and I believe it was supposed to work but never did. I did gain the ability to install a third party manga reader app which is really the only thing I wanted extra so I was ok. Now I am unable to reach it though and im getting manga withdrawls lol...
The link im going to give you is in my FAQ >> please read it!

3rd party apps with amazon

Ok so i followed the root for my 8gb nook tablet running 1.4.2 I wanted the amazon app store and did once have it working, then think i might have bricked or almost bricked. It looped the boot screen. When i got it turned back on it i guess reformatted itself and i started from scratch.
So since then Im running into the problem since rerooting my tablet that the 3rd party button unchecks itself. Ive been attempting to use easy installer to get it (amazon app store and homecatcher) to install. Ive also been using hidden NT settings from the market and still it unchecks itself no matter how many times ive allowed it superuser access and hit the allow 3rd party app button.
Last night i was playing with easy installer and i opened superuser and told it to forget hidden NT files, went to easy installer and it installed homecatcher (which works), and amazon app store(which wont allow me to install apps because its they arent from the google android market). So one hurdle is i actually got the amazon app store.. i just cant do anything with it.

i may be of little help because i am not running my device the same way as you are... but i think you're a little confused. . you can only 'side load' if you have 'unknown sources' toggle 'on'...
. and amazon apps are just like google play store apps. . please do some more reading. google search is your friend. do a search with a string something like this : 'xda nook "unknown sources" -color' . ( when you put key words inside quotation marks, the result is MUCH better )
.
ahh, and please post your questions in the Q&A section.
hth.
