Photo Editor not saving - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When using "Photo Editor" to edit phones, it doesnt seem to save. When I click save, it returns to the gallery and the photo is not edited. Has anyone else had this issue. I like the photo editor as it allows me to adjust levels and optimize the dynamic range. (It would be nice if the camera did this automatically or there was a batch program to do this). I had to download a "Gallery KK". That works, although instead of overwriting the photo, it creates a new file.
This is on internal memory. I have had some issues with apps not being able to save the the external SD card, not sure why.

default folder for camera

How do ya change where the camera puts the pictures it takes. I would like to have my pictures stored on my storage card instead of on the main memory.
A little late for a reply but in case anyone else has the same question there is a icon on the top middle of the camera app, when you are using the rom, it looks like a microchip, when you are saving to the memory card it looks like the memory card, when you tap this icon it will toggle where you are saving your pics to.

that works if i go to program folder and select album....
but i usually go to programs folder and select pictures and videos....
i just think that program gives u more options to do with pictures ... editing and so forth...
there are two ways to look at pictures... through album program or pictures and video program..... not sure why there are two..? the album program i guess is more finger friendly and doesn't show u videos
i was trying to get 100media folder the default folder opened for pictures and video program... i did the steps u stated above but that only seems to work for album program
sorry, misunderstood you. I use resco photo to do all the extras with my photos, it is much more user friendly than the default. You can set it to open on any folder or even last used folder. As for the pictures and video, I'm not sure. I would'nt mind a similar reg hack for the default file explorer. good luck

[Q] Wallpapers in .nomedia folder?

If, hypothetically speaking of course, I had some pictures in a folder containing a .nomedia folder to hide them from Album, is there a way to use them as wallpaper? I have tried setting the wallpaper using Astro as the selector instead of album and I can browse to the image and select it but then it freezes and never gets to the screen where you crop the paper. Also, even when using "normal" images, I have noticed that when I go to change the wallpaper it will hang after I "Select wallpaper from" Pictures, necessitating me pressing the back key and having to restart the process. It always starts the second time but is quite slow.
Any ideas?
I think you can use those pics as wallpaper by browsing to them with a filemanager....
Then just push on the photo and select the menu button in the lower left corner.
Select set to background...
That should work...

How do you change the camera storage location on 4.2.2??

I just lost 140-ish pictures while switching ROMs because apparently the camera in 4.2.2 saves to internal memory instead of to the SD card. Is there a way to change the storage location so this crap doesn't happen again?

When you have the camera app open, there will be a little icon in the top left showing a picture of the sd card to let you know you have it selected. To select to save to the sd card click the options (looks like audio sliders), and scroll down to bottom and you will see storage. Select memory card. :good:
Sucks you lost your pics though. I've done this before too. On the plus side, you will only make this mistake once.

Yeah, I took my son to an aquarium and took pictures of him and all kinds of animals, including videos. The day before switching roms, I thought "maybe I should back up these pictures" but I didn't.
But I don't see what you're talking about. If I press and hold anywhere on the screen, a few options come up, and one of them is the settings/audio sliders thing, but selecting that has no storage option. I can't even scroll. There's just "scene mode, store location, and picture size."

Maybe Store Location is it? I havent messed with AOSP or the camera in quite a while but the Store Location sounds like it might be it.
How did you lose the pictures?

It really depends on what camera the ROM you are on has incorporated into it. I'm on liquid ROM and if you click the little circle in the bottom right while holding it in portrait and click the settings button it will bring up the camera settings. It may have a storage location option and it may not. I have noticed that paranoid doesn't have that option. It's very unfortunate that you lost all your pictures tho :/ I tend to move my pictures to my SD every time I switch roms when if I'm not wiping data. Hopefully you can find that option otherwise you may want to try another camera app that will allow you to change save location. Good luck!

Something I just thought of that the OP could try is one of the 4.2 camera mods that is floating around in the Themes and Apps section. One of those may be modded to allow a different storage location.

Its store location man...a while back when i was switchen roms most aosp could only be on device..liquid and pac what im on now store locarion had device and card...one of the reasons i havnt flashed in a while lol my wallet has been worken good and i can store to memory card my pics
while in the camera app, if you press the menu button, a pop up menu should appear and if you scroll to the very bottom, there is a storage location. gives you the options for phone or sd card if you have one. by default they should be saved to the sd card. however, if you eject the sd card and then take a picture while the sd card is not in the phone, the camera will switch it to store it on the phone. it will also do this if the sd card is full.
a way to tell if the photos are stored on the phone or the sd card is to look at the folders of photos. if the folder has an sd card symbol in the bottom left corner, it is on the sd card (a simpler way is to eject the sd card and see if the photos are still in the gallery )
if you find that a folder is not on the sd card, you can simply move it to the sd card. The stock gallery app will allow you to move it but its not extremely obvious at first. if you tap on the folder that is not stored on the sd card and allow the pictures to load to the right, load press on any photo in that folder. you can now select them all by tapping the "1 selected" drop down menu on the top left and tap on "Select all". Next you will press the menu button which will show the option "Move". Choose the folder you would like it to go to on the sd card and you r done.
hope this helped.
Can anyone tell me how can I set a desired folder to save my camera clicks???
what if there is no storage button in the camera app
Ok , for those that were searching the internet for another option because there is NO button in the camera app , you can just go to Settings -> Storage -> and select Default Write Disk w/e u want

Delete / Rebuild Gallery Thumbnails.

I had a hard time finding the fix for this on the Evo 4G LTE so I hope this helps others.
It may apply to other phones.
Warning! Although this fix solved my problem (where other fixes failed),
it apparently affected my lock screen (the HTC sense one, which I have disabled).
So do this at your own risk.
Update: The lock screen thing went away at next reboot, so probably no big deal.
It is apparently common, it's happened to other people for no reason
and sometimes goes away on its own, only to come back later.
It may not even be related to my thumbnail fix.
The lockscreen issue is: The ring won't to slide all the way up and the clock at the top showed overlapping numbers.
You can still access your phone by pulling down the notifications bar at the top,
tapping settings, and then clicking the home button.
I simply disabled the lock screen entirely -
Search the google play store for No Lock Screen, made by Futon Redemption.
The Thumbnail Fix:
If your gallery shows small picture previews (thumbnails) showing a gray warning triangle,
or duplicates of your images, you need to delete your thumbnail cache.
You can try deleting these manually from within the gallery, but it's slow
and you run the risk of deleting the actual pics and not just the thumbnails.
When you delete the thumbnails, the phone will automatically rebuild them,
and the next time you launch the gallery, the duplicates and missing image icons will be gone.
There are a few places where the phone might store these thumbnail caches.
I found several possible locations while googling. Some may be for other phones.
Try these first. They didn't fix the problem for me, but they didn't have any bad side effects either.
Use a file browser like Root Explorer to get to these files/folders and delete them.
Make sure "show hidden files and folders" option is enabled.
• /sdcard/dcim/.thumbnails (delete the whole folder)
• /sdcard2/dcim/.thumbnails (ditto)
• /sdcard2/dcim/thumbs.db (possible I accidentally copied this file from windows)
• /sdcard/Android/data/com.cooliris.media/cache
• /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.media/externalXXX.db
• any thumbnail folders in /sdcard/DCIM/Camera/ or /sdcard/DCIM/100ANDRO/
Other possible fixes (these didn't work for me either)
• Settings --> Applications --> All --> Gallery --> Clear Cache. For me, this button was grayed out.
I was able to do "clear data" instead but it didn't work.
• There are a few thumbnail cache cleaning apps. I got "Gallery Refresh" and it didn't work.
OK for real, the actual fix:
• What worked for me is to go to this directory:
/data/data/com.androids.providers.media/databases/
and delete the file external.db. Don't touch internal.db.
To be safe you can just rename it so you can restore the file later.
Right after doing this and rebooting I got the lock screen issue so once again, use at your own risk.
Thanks, it helped me restoring the thumbnails in a CM13 based ROM (Ressurrection-Remix Marshmallow). The catch was the part about deleting external databases in /data/data/com.androids.providers.media/databases/ (I did a backup first, just in case...).
It seems that deleting the .thumbnails folder in DCIM now breaks the thumbnails, ie they aren't rebuilt later, at least not for now...
