My Redmi 3 is charging very slow - Xiaomi Redmi 3 Questions & Answers

This is my second Redmi 3. The first one was charging normally. About 1 to 1,4 ampere. In the car 1 ampere.
The one I have now is just charging only at 40 to about 350 mAh. In the car and at home with different chargers.
Does somebody know why or can help!?

I feel my phone charge slowly . how can i know

Take the app "ampere" from play store

I have read and gone through different MIUI forums and different websites...We are not the only ones suffering from this issue...There are lots and lots of people reporting this issue. The best possible solution is to change the charging adapter. It sounds weird but believe me this worked like a charm to me. I purchased a adapter of rating 5v-2A from a local store and the Ampere Pro apk now shows 1200mA max current. But with the stock charger it showed up like 50mA, 150mA, max to max it was upto 650mA.

Looking for an app that tells Charging Speed in mA

With my Note 22 I used an app called "Galaxy Charging Current". Unfortunately it doesn't work on this phone. With the best charger & cable, the Note 2 showed 1800mA charging. I am looking for an App that would give me similar information with the V10.
Ampere seems to work with the V10:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.ampere
currently using Ampere but getting mixed results
I use GSAM Battery Monitor.
with GSam & 35‰ charged it said the charger was charging @ 196mA. If that were so, then the factory fast charger is defective.
With Ampere & 45% charged it said the charger was charging @ 930mA. If that were so, then the factory fast charger is defective.
My Note 2 charges @ 1800mA and does not know what a fast charger is.
Sent from an AT&T LG V10
I use Battery Monitor Widget Pro. Best I've used so far to monitor battery usage. Haven't actually used it on my V10 but this post just reminded me to install it.

quick charge 2.0 increases voltage to phone and drops the amps.
so a 5v 2.4a charger will put out around 1800mA (1.8a) on a note 2, the V10 with QC2.0 @ 930mA is prob feeding phone 9-12 volts

So fast charge capabilities are screwing around with our battery monitoring apps?
Or rather screwing our perception of speed of charge and ma draw?
Ampere.. been using it for years

Ampere actually broke my "Estimated time remaining" under battery & storage settings. Just would sit on "calculating... please wait."
Uninstalled it and it's back to working again.

So to sum up...
930 on a V10 is "the same" as 1800 on a note 2?
I also came from a note 2 and have been confused as heck trying to figure out if my v10 is charging at a decent rate.
I never have a problem with the oem charger but I was on a car trip and using an external battery pack and also tried plugging in to my car stereo but couldn't figure out how to "read" the charging apps.

Take note that the v10 turns off fast charging while screen is on. And ampere is a gesstimate, no app can give you presice. Need to use a USB Doctor sleeve for better results.
Unfortunately Ampere remeassures every time the screen turns on. I used the paid version widget.
Additional note. Fast chargers and fast charging is not the same as Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0.
A 2.4A charger will not quick charge qc 2.0 LG v10 in this case any faster than an old Iphone cube.
You need a qc (qualcomm) 2.0 compatible quick charger and decent cable. Zerolemon, aukey, tronsmart, Motorola turbo qc 2.0 chargers works great.
The LG v10 is capable of 2400-2850mA. Slightly slower then the Nexus 6, but faster than the G4.
The stock charge that comes with the v10 is qc 2.0 [email protected] or [email protected] max. Some chargers can do 12v, ZeroLemon is one.

Yes in my experience, the quality of the cable makes a difference. I'm not sure if its the actual thickness or connections. I have a 6 foot braided flat cable that doesn't always fast charge on wall charger, but I have a 3 foot flat that does in the car. When I use my better cables it works every time.. I don't know if length makes a difference.
Yes, when I was using my Samsung Note 2 and an app called Galaxy Charging Current you could see the difference in mA. Using an Anker charger and a good cable got it up to 1800mA. It is harder to find longer cables that do not produce a loss. The quality of the conductor (metal /copper) shows up here. I wish that "Galaxy Charging Current" worked on the LG V10.

Not only that the quality of the cable is superb. i broke one when my phone fell during charging and it landed on the the bottom first causing the micro usb from cable crooked. beside that the cable is great. http://www.hersheng.com/sites/default/files/1403253142.jpg

Phone is charging with 500ma max.

hey guys .. before I tell you about my problem I want to apologize for my bad english
my problem is that my phone is charging with just 500ma max. .. I took that information from the app "ampere"
I bought a new cable and everything was alright for 1-2 weeks .. then I bought a very expensive cable from ebay for 10 Euros
same thing but this time it only worked for 3 days .. does anyone got the same problem with this phone?
the le max 2 is very hot while charging, could this be the answer to all the broken cables I got?
I thought about buying a USB Type C to Micro USB Adapter but how fast would it charge?

I charge with original charger . I use original cable as well as some other from Aliexpress. I measure the charging parameters with external USB tool. I have never had problems with charging. Maybe I'm so lucky. I'm also using qc 3.0 powerbank.
Currently I'm using Tiegem 3.1 USB type C cable which is 2m long.
Well, charging speed actually takes into concideration several things: ROM is the first and main thing, outside temperature and CPU temperature as well as thermal drivers matter really much.
If on EUI, the best thing you can get actually with stock rom is QC2.0 speed (Small EUI has enabled QC3.0 but thermal drivers lower than moderate will not absolutely ever charge the phone over 10W due to heating).
If on Nougat ROMs then the first thing to look at is whether the kernel limits charging speed (Blackscreen and Omni kernel most widely used on these roms use QC3.0 and will charge the phone at 18W up until the CPU thermals detect too high temperature).
TL, DR: Check your ROM and thermal driver settings. (Also charge in a cold spot rather than hot).

There is no different between charging speed of QC3 and QC2. QC2 definitely can go beyond 10W

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
last week i bought a Redmi 5 Plus 4gb/ 64gb Global then i tried to test charge time and quick charge.. 3-4 times with a qualcomm QC 3.0 charger and another QC 2.0 charger.. The results are similar: all about 2 hour.. the charge time with Xiaomi's own 2A Charger it take about 2 and half hour. i know its good but not so good.. By the way i notice that when test with QC3.0 charger it can not charge with 12V.. (i used a usb tester to see voltage and Current) i just saw 9.30v as max voltage. its behave look like QC2.0 not QC3.0
Snapdragon 625 should be support QC3.0 isnt it?
Are there anyone test quick charge?
I have a QC 2.0 charger,takes about 2 hour to fully charge my R5 phone... don't have tester to measure voltage,but phone doesn't heats up,its around 28 C when charging.Charger does
all my qc3.0 tests take 2 hours too. i see my qc 3.0 charger work as qc 2.0 charger. maybe my charger not work as qc 3.0 maybe our phone not support qc 3.0 we will see... i will buy a new qc 3.0 charger and i will test it again then i share the results here too.

welll my new charger delivered me from china, so i tested it a few times. its better than my qc2.0 charger and my other qc3 car charger ( i think its not qc3.0 its just qc2.0 ) My new charger is not as good as expected.. charge time is an hour and 45 minutes. .. its mean 15 min better than qc.2.0 ... i saw 10.1v and 1,35 amp on my usb tester, it could be 12v... Anyway we can see that the phone supports qc 3.0 but not at all its need powerfull and good qualty QC3.0 charger, so if you want to buy a QC3 charger i I recommend that you need to research well.

You are not alone. R5 plus and some another xiaomi device, sometimes we see this problem. And there is no software solution. Wipe, mi flash, battery calibrationi root... I tried everything but no luck.
Only solution is;
Remove the back cover (i did it, its not so difficult.)
Remove the battery connector plug
Wait a few seconds
Plug it back.
Thats done. Problem solved.

Original vs Fake Xiaomi 27w charger video comparison

I have seen many people complaining about their 27w Xiaomi charger with problem of not turbo charging, low charging current, overheat, dont work with 20w charger, and etc. And I one of the these guys too. I have ordered two times 27w loosepack charger from chinese online shop and all are fakes. They dont give me consistent turbo charging and dont charge faster than 18w! This pissed me off because there are so many loosepacks out there and the original ones comes from 20w wireless charging bundling box, from mi 9 chinese box, or from 27w charger with box packaging which none of that chinese online shop sell that, all only loosepack which high risk of counterfeits.
Yesterday I bought the 27w charger with box in my local online shop. The seller told me he got the charger from local store in china and bought it to my country. After the charger arrives i tested in and yeah finally I got the original one. I always get "charge turbo" whenever i charge and measurement in ampere App can reach 4800mA which I never get even 3000mA with 18w or that fake 27w one.
So I made a comparison video of those original vs fake charger. I hope it can help you guys who experienced same like me and want to find the original ones. Here is my youtube video link:
https://youtu.be/xx-P6BxZzkU
If you want to see video later, here is also attached the quick glance of my both orig and fake ones. They do have difference in printing quality. And the Ampere screenshot of original charger for reference.

I got it from someone who bought it from chinese local store.
If you want get the original one, you need to buy charger with official packaging box. Can be a bundle with 20w wireless, or standalone with box like i bought, but its very rare.
Specifically: aliexpress. Search the shop and see the feedbacks. Look for shop which can provide 20w wireless bundling in one box

I bought that bundle like 20 days ago, it should aerrive by next week at max.
But i got the "traveler charger" (Xiaomi 1A1C) which comes with a Usb Type C and Normal USB port.
Hopefully it charges correctly i will let u know but for now the bad comments i have read just say that they cannont turbo charge using the type C Port.

Yes 30w if you use the type c connector or at least that what they claim.
But since max supported for our device is 27w it is kinda useless.

Can your 30w charger turbo charge mi 9?
So, anyone has a link to a reliable and tested seller on aliexpress for the 27w charger?
Here's a post to a review of the original 27 W charger ordered from Alixepress. I saw his review on a German forum too. You can also see a screenshot from the Ampere app. Looks legit. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79569598&postcount=87

You can also check reviews there, several people wrote that Charging Turbo works, you can also see it in their photos.
Personally, I've order the charger from here a week ago: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33001884969.html
Almost every photo review shows Charge Turbo, so hopefully it's true. I just have to wait until it arrives to try it out.
@arddy1, very nice post, a very detailed comparison. Thanks you!
I was convinced that mine was ok because I see "Charging Turbo" on the Mi9 every time I connect the charger. But looking to the charger details it actually matches the fake one you shown in your video. So I decided to perform some more tests.
- I tried to use a USB voltage/current meter but when I use it then I don't get "Charging Turbo" anymore, which means it blocks somehow some communication between the charger and the phone, could it be?
- in Ampere I can only get 2600mA, while using by cheap 2USD QC 3.0 charger I can get 3200mA;
- since this charger is effectively recognized by the phone with "Charging Turbo", I suppose the problem with the fake one is not the "protocol" or compatibility, but the amount of current it can send to the phone, what do you think?
The final test will be to perform a full charge with both my QC 3.0 and this one to see the difference.
My main concern now is: being a fake charger, is it safe to use it? may it damage the phone? What do you think?
I happen to have both with line and without, and both are working the same Both give turbo charge mode with cable and with wireless charger every time, i would never thought that one might be fake if haven't seen this post.
UPD. I checked were from i have ordered the original : https://www.aliexpress.com/store/3470060?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dazyZc0
I have got 27w+cable+20w wireless charger+eu plug, from that store and they came in one package. So i don't know if only the charger will be original. It was shipped ~10 days to Israel.

But did you actually measure the current with Ampere? In my case it seems I also have a fake one but I always get turbo charge mode as well. However when I measured the actual current in Ampere App I can see that the original 18w charger gives more current/power to the phone than the 27w one.
If possible use Ampere to measure if and report the results.

Just measure the charge time in my case if i remember right, 27w charges the phone ~1 hour and charger witch came with phone i didn't measure exactly but i think it something like 1 hour 40 minutes.
As for Ampere it shows ~1500 Ma and ~4.5v on 90% battery level on both chargers and both cables witch came with the chargers. And yes in Israel we have 220-240v power supply, don't remember exactly but i think it's same as Europe. For 5 minutes that i have checked the phone charged to 92% level

You should measure it when charge is still below 50%, after that charging current starts to drop.
It might be the case yours is a very good fake charger
I will also compare charging times with mine and the. post the results in a couple of days.

Phone showing charge turbo or not is not determined by the current. I have tested both mode in fake charger, the currents are almost same. It may be determined by that protocol or compatibility thing. When the cable is plugged in and your phone detects that charger is compatible, it will trigger turbo charging mode and allowing more currents to enter inside. But in fake chargers, although it have been already allowed, the charger hardware dont have capability to do that.
I can't test current using usb meter too because it caused the phone cant read the charger compatibility. So in the video i compare currents with app ampere. As long the voltage in app are about same, it can be compared.
About safe or not, i recommend you not to use it. The temperature in fake ones is noticeably higher when charging than the original, even the original has bigger output current.

Baseus 30W charger at Mi 9

does anyone tried to charge Mi 9 with this Baseus charger?

is this charger compatible with 27W xiaomi charging?
I think it's just Quick Charge 3.0. You should buy the 27W charger imo. But i could be wrong
I have it, it does quick charge but not charge turbo
Good I stopped by XDA before purchasing it.
It does say if you scroll down on its specs it's a QC4 charger, but I assumed the described output would be a sum of both USB ports working simultaneously.
Already posted about it some weeks ago.

It's indeed just a QC 4.0 charger. Will only do 18W.
Hi, I have one. For it to work properly you have to have the cable of more than 30w.
Load much faster than the original that comes in the box. I did a quick test from 75% to 100% with the phone turned off and charged in 25min; so you can assume if it's fast or not.
WTF ; does this phone even do QC4 ... the Xiaomi offical charger is 3.0 and I bought a $68 dollars Belkin QC : 4.0+ offical as per reviews and it caps out at. 3470 : it NEVER has said fast or TURBO and it ofen Ampere reports 1800 mah ? Can anyone explain this in any way
Do you really have to post the same thing in every single charger related topic ?

Thanks for info dude
I suspect that Turbo Charge only happens with the 27W factory charger.
Because my Hama QC4+ charger, certified by Qualcomm, charges definitely faster than the 18W charger found in the package, but does not say Charge Fast or even Charge Turbo.

Call me crazy but I think it will charge the device at 27W speed.
A lot of people don't seem to realize but the "Xiaomi Turbo Charger 27W" is actually QC3, not QC4+, and it does charge the device at 27W. If you find a QC4+ charger that supports 27W and up, you will still get 27W charging but you won't see "Charge Turbo" because it will use the better, newer charging standard.
This can make charge turbo QC 3.0 and it's cheaper and with more ports:

Yeah but it can only charge at standard QC3 speeds, aka 18W at max. 9V/2A like the original one does. But the original one can also do 12V/1.5A. So it does not "Turbo Charge".
Careful many poster here are confused. My BELKIN true QC4.0+ never ever charged over 3200mA and averaged out at under 2200mA. Posters who speak about things without testing their theories are really frustrating. Do yourself a favor don't believe this phone accepts QC4 or QC 4.0+ (at least not @July 2019) only QC 3.0 NON FAKE xiaomi 27w can do the 4600mA + it would seem. Turbo charging is required for extremely rapid charge times. Make sure you get OFFICIAL 20V 1.35A from Xiaomi for Turbo Charge sustained charge and under one hour 0--100%
I also purchased a QC 4.0+ Hama DC charger cause Xiaomi doesn't make a DC charger to my knowledge. Guess what ; 18w ish charging speeds .. no Fast or Turbo classification ...
XIAOMI Hoe do you call this phone a QC 4.0/4.0+ unit !!! Cause look close at the charger Turbo pictures they are all using the "Original QC 3.0 Xiaomi charger that we ALL should have got in the box. Instead many of us have wasted tonnes of money and time buying useless to us QC 4.0+ tech that doesn't work or WORSE fake chargers that don't do more than 18w !! By the time we we have ordered 3-4 different chargers trying to get it to work we have to order it on Ali or gearbest or Gearvita. Cause the company does make them after all!! Enjoy the brutal shipping fees and heavy wait times. Well we order this and that trying to get the darn thing to work. So annoyed right now
Hi, I got the original charger and this if it gives the turbocharged 27w charge, however the baseus charger charges the same as the one that comes in the box or with the wireless charge.
I made this short video: https://youtu.be/nFBoPxORzEg
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/mi-9t-pro-30w-charger-experiment-t4003595
read this. Also tested with a mi9 that my fried had. same result.( Turbo charging up to 30W using the baseus charger)
Posted for those who end up here like me and read mixed info
I also have the Baseus charger mentioned above (BS-EU906), the variant with 2 usb A ports.
When I charge with the cable from my samsung galaxy tab S5e it charges with a bit over 4200mA 20w-21w.
But when I charge with my Baseus 2m 5a capable cable (CATSS-B0G), it never goes above 3400mA ~14w.
It still chargers fast, but it is not what was advertised. Both the cable and charger are rated for QC3.
Baseus GaN charger 65W + Baseus 5A cable reaches 5000mA in Ampere, which is assuming 5V (that's what Ampere is assuming), equals to 25W. The fact is voltage in QC is never stable, it's the factor that allows it to dynamically supply power based on various parameters: battery temp, device temp, battery capacity and so on. If you have a USB-C USB doctor (and it should be more accurate than any software based monitoring) you can watch yourself that both the voltage and current are alternating constantly.
