Few questions before i commit to a REDMI NOTE 3 - Xiaomi Redmi 3 Questions & Answers

HI all,
I am still rocking an original moto g love the battery life and size, but I am thinking of jumping back in with a new phone the REDMI NOTE 3 .
I was wondering about its size is it pocket friendly I know its bigger than my moto g but is it awkward to fit in a jeans pocket say ?
I am considering also buying a freefly vr set ( I cant add a link here ) I think it will work with the phone so I was wondering about the 2gb or 3gb model is it worth splashing out for the extra gb of ram ?
I am not a heavy gamer but I guess this would future proof the phone somewhat ?
I have looked online ebay and amazon and have seen a few deals some have an eu/uk custom rom with google play pre installed , so this would not receive over the air updates ? but it shouldn't be to difficult to put on an official rom ?
I am buying in the uk and am kind of worried that a seller may pass me a fake , how would I spot a fake compared to the real deal ? The sellers have great reviews if that means anything
I know it doesn't have quick charge or wireless charging but I have seen an addon for samsungs that convert them to wireless charging is that possible with this phone ?
Other than that I am looking for a phone for a few years battery life is important and this ticks that box. at some stage I will root it hopefully that will be easier later on .
Anything else I should know ?
cheers all for reading this far .

1. On the physical aspect it's easy. Just try to spend some time with a friend' s spare Note 2 or anything phablet-ish. Really give it a day to day usage tests; pockets, in and out of bags, 1 handed op the whole works. Decide then.
2. Get the 3GB RAM model period. Why? Because of the paired 32GB internal as well. Simple logic. A phone that size with 2GB RAM/16GB just doesn't compute VR or no VR.
3. Yeah it's easy enough to flash over vendor ROMs with official. The real PITA is when you want to unlock your bootloader.

Thanks for the help. will try and get to play with a mates Samsung or something and see what its like.
yeah I hear the bootlader can be a wait , is it still you ask then wait a few weeks for them to ok it ?

Unfortunately yes on the unlock bootloader aspect, it's still is. Brace yourself because of the Redmi 3 Pro and Mi Max dual combo of rels this coming weeks. Not to mention kenzo's supply could hardly keep up to demand. Combine all this and the potential new users who'd choose to unlock it's gonna be a helluva flustercuck.

How long did you have to wait ?
The one I am looking at on ebay the seler has a eu/uk rom with play store installed , would it be a problem to switch to the official global rom for that version as its not the official Chinese one ?

In sig lol grand total of 29 days yeah almost a month. No it won't be a problem to flash back to official ROM. Read here and I recommend that you pick the dev ROM instead and stick with it if you plan to apply for unlock bootloader. If you don't then stable it is by all means.

I just read that in your sig lol
is the dev rom easier for bootlocker ?

Oneplus stated already that they are going to use the Qualcomm 810 v2.1 so it has no overheating issues at all.
That said I might buy it if it will have at least a QHD screen and min. 5.5".

They announced it will be underclocked to 1.8Ghz, so thats admiting for sure that it has overheating issues.
Alright, alright I will keep an eye on it and see if it is worth buying it anyway or not.
Yeah. Worth or not. That's really important to decide buying a new phone.

Use it for three days and you'll never go back to smaller. I went from a Moto X 2013 to a OPO and thought size would be a issue. It wasn't.
What we know so far?
We know that the 2 will come with Snapdragon's 810 processor, a USB type C cable and a fingerprint sensor/scanner.
All these things make it look like the Phonearena render might be real.
I think the 5.5 screen will be fine on 1+2 as I have got used to the bigger screen after using the OPO for quite some time and phones like iPhone look real small to me.
I am really excited for the launch of OnePlus cardboard on July 3, I just hope the shipping cost are not to high.
Yes, I agree. I don't want to go back to a 5" screen, My Nexus 5 seems tiny to me now.
Regarding the chip overheating, OP claim to have fixed that, both on the software, and the hardware via "passive cooling"
That's fine with me, I think my need for speed is satisfied, is more than satisfied by the 801 in my current One.
So, unless the overheating is a really bad problem, I shall buy this thing, pretty much on it's looks and style.
If I don't see anything compelling, and I haven't so far. I shall stick with the One.
It's so cheap (well assuming it will be highly competitively priced with other flagships) its hard not to buy it especially since I'm looking for something new right now to play with.
That said I think the invite system is just about the most idiotic thing ever and I flat out refuse to jump through hoops to buy something when I have the money just sitting there to spend.
If it's made readily available I will most def seriously consider it.
Invite system, pass and will explore something different.
current devices: Nexus 6, Note 4, 3, 2, S3, OneX+
Pass if invite system and 1080p screen.

For sure
I wanted to have one plus one, but because of invitation system I was unable to bought that.
But this one, I am certainly getting it.

Price will be under 425$. So no doubt about price point, goin be definitely competitive. The real question is the invitation system!! I got to wait almost a year to buy my oneplus one!

Can't wait for the details, wanted to buy the One Plus, but I guess I will have to wait.
Im excited about the oneplus 2 but the size of the device will most likely be the decider for me. there more bigger it is than 5 inces the less chances of me buying it.

RMN2 Hard Brick, CM12.1

Hey devs,
for about 3 weeks I have been a proud owner of the RMN2 Prime until yesterday, when it suddenly turned off and died.
When I got the phone I started skinning it down with jaik's custom boot image and also cleaned it from unused apps. So far so good.
Now, some days ago I decided to switch over to danielpinto's CM12.1 , which is really awesome compared to MIUI. No problems either.
I also installed Greenify and Disable services to get rid of some battery hogs.
Yesterday, I was out of home whole day, had minimal standby battery drain, but really massive battery drop when recording a video (~50% to 25% in about 2min).
Put it in my pocket, and 10 min later it didn't turn on again. I thought it would be the battery, but apparently it's bricked. No charge LED, no PC recognition, nothing...
I tried to unbrick it via SP tool and some really unconvenient tutorials, but nothing worked. I guess I installed all needed drivers now, but SP tool doesn't show any reaction in the progress bar (the coloured bar at the bottom...I don't get ANY colour, nothing starts when I click the download button).
What to do?
The RMN2 is a pretty good phone IMO, but now also my first bricked one. I would be extremly graceful if some experienced xda devs could help me with this as I'm really desperated.
I'm from Europe and ordering a new one (if I'd need to) would take some weeks from now.
If so, have you any suggestions on which device might be a better choice? It should be in the same price range though.
Thanks for reading!
Best regards
If it is broken.... I guess new phone can be redmi note 3 pro.
Only thing I can think of is trying with a new battery.. (something must be wrong with it if it drained that quickly).
Thanks for your replies!

Well, after I used the camera the drain was normal again and stayed at 27%. I also removed the battery and directly powered it from my powerbank, but it never turned on or vibrated...and no LED...

The extra features of the 3 pro are not really attractive for me. I've found the Elephone P9000 Lite today and I think this might be great alternative. Or I give the RMN2 another chance. Not sure on this yet...

Wouldn't it be less costly to first spend 10$ on a new battery before buying a new phone? In regards to a new phone, I'd chose a Snapdragon 650 powered RN3 w/ a 4k mAh battery over the Elephone P9000 Lite any day of the week. My brother has one and it's an amazing phone. Of course it all depends of what you find important in a phone. What makes you go for the Elephone?

Really appreciate your thoughts, man!
If I could be sure that it was a battery problem I would of course buy a new one. But it really appears to be a hard brick (I tested it with the battery removed and the phone directly plugged to the charger -> no LED, no reaction) Also the PC can't recognise it anymore.
The RN3 might surely be a nice phone, but for me the fingerprint, slithly faster performance and the battery are not worth 60€ more.
I just stumbled over the P9000 Lite yesterday and it seems to have everything the RN2 has + more RAM, LTE band 20 and Marshmallow. Negative is the small xda community for it...
And today I just found Ulefone! Geez, almost the same company name, but whole different stuff...there are way too many china phones out there!
The Elephone is down for a Ulefone Power or Ulefone Vienna.
Any thoughts?
Btw FYI, my preferences would be:
- at least 3000mAH
- 5.5 inch FHD
- Android 6 (or via update) + maybe chance for N if it's not asked too much
- at least 2Gb RAM, processor level of RN2 would be sufficient
- I don't care about the camera quality at all
- less than ~180€
Does the phone vibrate when you plug it to the charger without the battery?

I got it from Gearbest and it's still in their 45 days warranty. I'll probably try to ask for a refund and order a new RN2.
Sending it back, fixing it, then sending it back to me would last monthes...
So I'll order a new one today or tomorrow, I'm just undecided between Ulefone Power or RN2.

Djeeeeeeeeeeeez thx a lot!! You've made me look at that Elephone P9000 Lite, then at that Ulefone Power (looks awesome w/ wooden back!) and now i'm considering passing on my RN2 to a family member and going on a spending spree (again) I wouldn't personally go for the Ulefone Power because of it's less than great MT6753 processor, 16GB (only) storage and Ulefone's custom ROM (planned upgrade to MM, but yeah don't think it'll get N).
I'm actually moving to China in a couple of weeks and one of the first things I'll do when I get there is go have a look at the Umi Super. Check out these specs:
- SHARP 2.5D 5.5 FHD display (Gorilla glass 3)
- Mediatek P10 (MT6755) @ 2.0GHz
- SAMSUNG 32GB eMMC 5.1 ROM
- SAMSUNG LPDDR3 4GB RAM
- SONY 4000 mAh battery
- PANASONIC 13MP dual flash camera
- TYPE-C USB / SD card up to 256GB / Fingerprint sensor / Dual SIM (shared 2nd slot w/ SD)
And when you thought it couldn't get any better, it comes with stock Android 6.0 (yes you've read that right!! it's a Nexus!!!!! ) and Umi offers a ROM flashing tool (Rootjoy) on their website and the tool allows you to flash a MIUI, VIBE, EMUI or LEWA ROM, made for the Super, to the phone
That is one hell of a crazy phone! Now I know in your requirements it says "less than 180e" and there is a time limited offer on Umi's homepage to get it for 179.99$ (not sure about shipping fees). Anyway, I'm gonna get it even if I need to shell the normal 249.99$ price for it (it's more than worth it if you look at the top class components they've chosen for the Super). So screw the idea of repairing your RN2, throw it in the bin (or put it up on eBay) and get that unibody aluminium one

Damn it, now there are 3 devices to choose from
The RN2 has a strong community, but bad battery..
the Ulefone Power has...ehm...power and MM, but is unhandy and has no community..
and the UMI Super sounds awesome, but has even less community and it will take monthes til it would be here with me!
Do you have a link to the 180 bucks offer? found it
And are you in anyway paid by UMI by chance?
EDIT: Ok, somehow got hooked by the Super Now the only question is where to get it fast and cheap
I can't stand getting along with my old Lg L7 for so long!

Not in any way., I only found out about Umi at 2am last night when I was still looking at the newer China phones xD You can go on their website and click on the Super promo on the homepage (Snap now) and it will show you all the supported resellers (Gearbest and alike + 1 shop on Aliexpress/eBay). The Aliexpress shop (Deal Home) seems to be the only one having stock already (there's a certificate signed by a Umi representative stating that Deal Home has the First launch exclusivity) and all the other shops won't be sending anything out before June 20th. I've taken a look at their flash sale system. First, you need to register for the coupon (which they mail every Wednesday to the lucky first ones) and then you need to wait on a flash sale day (there was one on May 23rd and the next one, which we'll miss obviously, is on May 31th). Only on those days, and at the following hours: 00:00, 03:00, 06:00, 18:00 and 21:00, can you get one for 179$. The 179$ phones will be shipped out after 7 days according to the shop. So this system 1) scks and 2) is not as speedy as we like.
But there's a second option. You can buy it in a presale (right now) w/o the flash sale crap for 219.99$ on Deal Home (there's a 10$ seller discount as well) and according to them, those phones get shipped out "24~48h after test well". Thing is, I'm not sure how true that all is since in the shipping option, it mentions "ships out within 28 business days" (but that might be a default aliexpress thing). I'd just contact the shop and ask how quickly you can get it (or the item is being shipped out) if you take the 209.99$ one. They have 81 gray ones and 97 golden ones left.
It is true that the dev community is pretty small, but how much of it do you need if they offer a stock ROM by default (w/ possibility of root, xposed, etc.) and many alternative ROMS as an option? The only thing they might not do (but that's the same for every other Android vendor) is to offer an upgrade to Android N. I checked their forum a bit and at least they're being honest and clear about it when and why one of their devices isn't being updated to a new Android version.
I just had a first look at the sellers today and at the moment they all sell them for about 190€ - 200€, which is still okay for me (especially compared to the RN3). That is efox, tomtop, Banggood and Gearbest. Aliexpress' Deal Home unfortunately doesn't ship to my country. But I saw that Gearbest also has this kind of flash sale on special days of the week.
They all seem to deliver from mid to end of June plus the shipping time itself. So it will be here in mid July at the earliest...

Ah the major downside of importing phones from China .. it takes forever to get them (unless you pay an extra 35$ for a DHL <8 days delivery).

In the meantime I ordered the UMI Super for 164€. I'm really excited, but have to wait until July at least, as it will be shipped from 25th June at the earliest -.-
And now I'm already wondering if I should send the Super right back to GearBest and buy a Vernee Apollo Lite.
I thought the Super would be the best of the best for this price atm, but when you see the Apollo Lite....
- Helio X20 Deca core (Antutu >90000)
- IGZO display that seems to be really power efficient
- better camera with better focus
and Vernee is said to get a lot of hours out of a 3000mAH battery. While the 4000mAH of the Umi might not hold what they promise...
I'm not really into the fastest processor available as you won't feel a big differnece in daily use anyway, but it still seems to be a better package overall.
Price ~200€, ~230$ pre-sale
I ordered aswell they working on the battery like the last update. Waiting for root =(

Little update and a question:
I'm currently pretty happy with the UMI Super. All I wish for is DTTW and a Wifi fix, but all in all a really decent device for that price.
Regarding the RMN 2:
It's a real shame that I cant revive it...so dead...yet so beautiful
I disassembled it and tried the test point method as a last resort, but I can't identify the test points.
Anyone knows where they are?
I googled, but to no avail...
Thanks everyone!

Census - got one, had one, want one?

There don't appear to be many of these devices around, and I am curious to try and find out how many.
I love the hardware. If it was just about the specs, I'd have bought one already!
But I'm undecided.
If the bootloader was unlockable, with custom recoveries and custom ROMs, I'd have bought one. However, with Asus not cooperating, and I think too few devices around, I am not sure this will achieve the critical mass to get the attention it deserves.
Sadly, the lack of international availability, and, well, Asus being Asus, means that if this was an experiment to judge the demand for super-sized phablets, then I think it failed. I don't think we'll see another from Asus.
I have one, and will be keeping it for now. However it is not my daily driver, and until AT&T fixes their HSPA+ network in my area, or root becomes available so I can unlock bands, this device will stay just a play around device.
Hi,
I have one since about 2 months and I love its big screen, reviews said that there was no lag, no freezes etc... False, the proc is not that good and I'm really desapointed but that's not why I will change.
I'll change because I cannot accept that an android phone cannot have root or unlockable bootloader, for me it's not an android...
If I wanted an extremly locked phone, I'd choose an iPhone... lol
Oh and... still no Nougat update for other versions than ZF3 5.2 and 5.5 (Stopped because euh... well, because what in fact?)
So, for a 750€ smartphone...
Asus? Never again.
wow, only six people bought one? and one of those is going to sell it. doesn't look too good.
edit: updated the count
Yea I have it and im using it on T-Mobile which is OK with hspa+ but the bootloader unlock not coming out is killing my joy with the phone. Awesome device but I find myself using my OnePlus 3t more because of Asus stupid choices with the bootloader.
Have one & will keep it. The only really irritating thing so far is having both speakers on one side, when you keep the phone in landscape mode; but I'm getting used to tolerate it and can use the headphones anyway.

the iphone7 has a dummy speaker, one set of grilles are just blind holes!
so I guess even having genuine dual speakers is a win, but yes, would have been better to have them top and bottom, or even on the long edge.
the availability of an official boot loader unlock tool has swung me back to considering this phone again.
I have had my Z3Ultra for a number of months now after I purchased it to replace my nice but also annoying Huawei P8 Max. I totally love this phone. Can't complain with the exception of the lack of Root, which as I write this message, the developer community is working on bringing it to our device. Apart from this, I am looking to keep it until a new device is released with much better spec but at least the same size possibly even a 7.9" (YES it can be as like the Huawei P8 Max, this phone has a lot of wasted space and overall size can still be kept to current size- check Xiaomi Mi Mix) with ultra thin bezels and curved display, stylus pen, keyboard attachment, better cpu, 128GB or 256GB ROM, 6GB+ RAM, dual sim + independent sd slot and finally quad speakers (top, bottom, left, right side with similar quality to the ones already on it (they are awesome, I mean it). Anyway, enough dreaming from me, lets hope someone from Asus is reading my expectations of the next version.
I have one and will keep it, i am coming from a sony z ultra that I've been using for almost 2 years and sony z3 tablet compact 4g 3 months before that and a sony z1 before that, i have only had the asus zenfone 3 ultra for 1 week but have wanted this device since may last year, i bought this for £420 from eglobal and only bought this because my cousin wanted a better device than the Samsung s4 but he wanted to buy the sony z5 because he knew i enjoyed my sony devices but never asked why i didn't have a updated version like the z2 or z3, i sent him the information about the zenfone 3 series and the asus launch videos, he finally bought the deluxe 820 version after 3 months from the same seller but wanted this as soon as i showed these devices to him, i also bought my dad a sony z2 for work and recently upgraded his device to the asus zenfone 3 5.2 inch version. My cousin now wants the ultra version and im going to also buy his deluxe version to use for work. This is the best decision ive made but would buy a xiaomi mi max for less than 200 if i don't get the deluxe from him and stay with my ultra device too. I drive for work and have always had large screen devices for 3-4 years. Lets see what asus has to offer other than the AR version as this is only a small version or normal size lol. I've been recently looking around for root and unlocking bootloader and will wait for asus to release this to all.
Xiaomi Mi Mix? specs? quat speakers?

It is nice to dream and imagine good things in life and the spec posted (as stated in my original post) is what I want to see in an ideal device of this size. Oh No. I am definitely not smoking anything. Just dreaming the possibility of a perfect phablet (A mix between ZF3U, Samsung Galaxy S7/S8 type edge display and mi mix type bezelless front with the extras as cherry on top).
BTW. As I discovered very recently ASUS Customer Service for the ZenFone series is rubbish to say the least but more like non-existent. God help us when we need care for our precious ZF3U.

You are wright buddy, this is what I want too but no body makes it.:laugh:
My wife had 1. She dropped it face first on a concrete with flip cover that came with the phone. The screen still shattered. The flip cover is coming covering the screen but still didn't protect it from the impact. I guess that's the gamble when you have a very large screen.

I have one and love it, despite the stuff that is installed there out of the box. Its fast, bright and really useful. One thing that slightly upsets me - need to reboot it every second day to keep at the top of its abilities.
Overall - I'd never hesitate to recommend it.:good:
I had one, then gave it to my daughter while i used other smaller screen phone... Then i realize i got hooked on big screen, so i bought another one for me

Mainly, you CAN'T assume that just because folks don't report stuff here on XDA, that no one has it. Next, many users are Chinese, or from Taiwan. They won't necessarily speak English. Third, since the LTE bands are NOT available in the U.S.A., that kills more of the market. Lastly, the going rate is around $500 USD, if someone here DID want to buy one. Ours is black screen bricked right now, so we're trying to get help with the (WW) international version unbricking.
I should have been more clear, what I was interested in was how many XDA forum members have bought this, so as to gauge the level of interest and likelihood of hackers and developers doing interesting things with it. I don't know enough about custom Asus ROMS in this respect to actually do the work, but would have been willing to help test rooting and custom recoveries, only I ended up buying an LG V20 because it had all the features I wanted and the AZf3U didn't, and also my concerns about Asus's upgrade longevity set in.

I was planning to get zf3 ultra but with almost no rom support, I might get the mi max 2 instead.
I don't think the mi mix is a good idea since it has a fragile ceramic body. I prefer metal body...
*Edit: I gave away my mi max (helium ver) and back to using my 5 years old coolpad 9976a

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Xiaomi Mi Max 2, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
According to me, it is one of the best phones in this price range. Overall performance is very much satisfactory
My Mi Max 2 arrived two days ago, i'm really really happy, battery lasts two days with strong use, and everything is smooth. It was not so easy to go through the unlock procedure but now i'm done.
Me to, very happy so far. Coming from Samsung Note4, and that seems to be the end of Samsung phones for me!

How does it compare to your old note 4? I have a note 2 that is just about completely dead and hope for a sizeable jump - my only real worry is camera quality.

I've a Note 3 running Resurrection rom. Just got this last Friday and love the bigger screen, I remember getting the note 1 and nobody could believe the size, and now the note 3 is just about average, lol. Anyways I'll be missing the stylus and removable battery, but other than that it seems good. Just waiting for the 72 hrs to pass so that I can root and unlock the thing. For less than half the price of a Note 8 and the same price here as a second-hand several year old note 4 I don't think you can do wrong.

Buddy, How is the screen quality conpared to the note 3?
It's amoled vs lcd / 380dpi vs 344dpi. Im really considering this one or the LG V20?
Is it too big for pockets?
Screen seems ok to me, it's not as vivid but wil do the job browsing and reading pdfs which is my main use. I've thousands of photos too and they seem ok. Sizewise it's longer and sticks out a little bit from my pockets but not enough to bother me.
I am in love with this device, But bit disappointing with MIUI which uses more ram. Waiting for stable custom rom.:fingers-crossed:
I have a Redmi Note 3. I'm looking for a larger phone. My mom wants to take my Redmi once I get a new phone.
My only concern with this phone is custom ROM support as I don't like using MIUI. Are the chances this will be supported by LineageOS officialy sometime soon? (Mi Max 1 seems to have great custom ROM support). If yes, I'll be buying this phone right away.
Also, I'm confused. Some pages mention this phone has NFC and some don't. Does it have NFC. Doesn't affect my descision to buy this phone but still.

Yes, only thing I'm missing is the picture quality from Samsung, even though it was very much slower to focus, noticed specially when scanning bar codes. In very dark envioment it can be seen that it has ips screen and not amoled. But it cost 1/5 of a new Samsung Note, so i don't care. Specially since my Note4 failed with the "mmc_failed" error after 2 years, and Samsung wont emit it's a production failure.
Camera Quality

now the quality of mi max 2 is better than mi max 1
i have both Mi Max 1 and 2
Decent but the lack of multi color LED notification is a big downer.

but a little unconformtable when heat
10 -- except for the battery ...
I got the phone cheap $229 4/64 (it was 199 yesterday at Gearbest). TOTAL LOVE. Perfect build quality. Fast. Gets a great signal on AT&T (the only signal in my neighborhood). Better than my Samsung despite AT&T's claims it would barely work at all. Yes, it says H+ on the display instead of 4g, but I suspect I was getting H+ already, marketed as 4g, which is what they do in the states.
What's more, I'm getting Volte now with AT&T prepaid -- prepaid customers don't get Volte! (Not that it's much use with this carrier).
In call volume is fine and the speaker quality is great. It wasn't loaded with crapware and unrooted, I was able to disable some system apps (some apps, like the calculator, are terrific).
Regarding the battery: I got a lemon. It's lasting a full day, maybe a day and a half -- but I'm a light user! No gaming, not even online much. I don't run anything except for downloaded audiobooks. But it goes to show you how much I love the phone that I wouldn't even consider sending it back for warranty service. All the way to China? I'd be without it for days, maybe weeks!
It's not perfect. I can't believe TV out is missing -- no way to connect to a monitor with OTG, no matter how many adaptors you use, I'm told. And Xiaomi's firmware prevents you from doing full backups or downloading nonessential updates unless you're on wifi. They claim you can toggle this, but they're sneaky buggers ... you toggle, it says downloading, but when you look for the completed file it says 'scheduled'. I *****ed and moaned in the forum, but hundreds have cried before me, to no avail.
There are a few odd little paternalistic issues with the OS -- not that ATT and Samsung don't dictate what I can do with my device and service -- they're a thousand times worse -- but their preferred forms of control are motivated by profit, not concern for what's 'good' for me. What do they care if I guzzle data?
On the other hand, Xiaomi employees actually monitor the forums. After the major software update, they solicited bug reports and issued fixes for them in a couple of days -- even for the minor bugs.
On a 1 to 10 scale, the phone is a 20, and I'm thrilled to learn they have a wide range of electronics to check out because -- so long Samsung, you suckered this consumer for the last time.
I do love Xiaomi Mi Max 2 except one thing. I can't unlock bootloader on MIUI 9 Global Stable, I get the error 86006 (with some Chinese letters). I know that it can be fixed by flashing on developper rom but I would like to get it fixed without flashing the device.

Yep, I had the same problem. I don't understand why Xiaomi does this.
I ended up giving in and installed a fresh dev ROM and then it worked perfectly.
Loving mine in Canada. I am a heavy user minus gaming(unless you count Scrabble) and I get 2 full days on a charge consistently. I stream sports and movies onto it, lots of music and other normal surfing/social media stuff and it doesn't get hot and the battery just keeps on going. It's early but so far I would definitely recommend the phone and the company. Excellent build quality and attention to detail. This phone was made with me in mind

Should I buy a LeEco Le Max 2?

Hi guys,
I have been using an elephone p7000 since I bought it on their launch promotion. The lack of rom support and a few issues have finally made me consider a new phone. The Le Max 2 seems the best value for $180 USD for the 32GB version. Should I be looking elsewhere?
Thanks

Bought it recently, came from a Mediatek device, and I'm happy with the move.
If you're OK with no headphone jack, I would say it's definitely worth it. Camera is a BIG upgrade to me, if that's important to you. Rom support is also a step from any Mediatek device (for obvious reasons). Build quality is very good, battery life is also good considering it's a QHD screen, screen itself is OK in terms of colour reproduction, no issues with outdoor sunlight. Just installed Lineage OS 14.1 and it's working great.
Maybe pay a bit more for the 64GB version if you need more space.

Nope display is not fine and by display i mean colors. The colors on custom roms are way too much saturated. If you use any different phone from different vendor for 2-3 weeks then the colors of leeco starts annoying. Even the colors on the stock rom is not good, it is better compared to custom rom but still not so accurate.

And support doesn't only means software support(never said anything about warranty). If some accident happens with phone's hardware, may it be screen, camera glass or any other hardware part then you cant get anything original to repair it. You have to opt for some different low quality hardware for which you will be charged quite the same as original one. So if anyone is going to buy anything new, its better not to buy anything from a closed company

Lol so basically he should even let his 190€ go to waste. And no problem in it is solvable, like the colors are over saturated, repair that. I have a redmi note 3 too. And guess what i use my note 3 as primary device cause this phone even in a custom rom slower than note 3. Yes on reality it should be more faster and should produce more nice results even in terms of gpu but when i install same thing on this phone and note 3,note 3 installs it faster. When i play war robots, this phone will make me wait more 2-3 seconds even when the timer has ended to start the match, no such problems in note 3. Lets agree to disagree that this phone has better chip but its not good because the implementation of the chipset is bad, a 2k resolution burns up all the battery and takes a whole lot of cpu and gpu.
Try some other phones with 650 or above chipsets from some other companies, you would know what i am referring to. This phone just doesnt performs as a 820. And one of my friend recently got a mi A1 and guess what, its camera is better compared to this one. I never thought that can be possible so i tested it for 15mins and mi A1 won.
And dont waste your money, better buy something else if you want to use it for 2 more years. This phone wont get any far even with development on xda. While the new phone which are released nowadays will get development for more than 3-4 years as after all this phone is already 1 year old. I would say go for honor 9i,its chipset would be even better compared to sd630 as kirin655 was better compared to sd625

My colours are fine, and workspeed isn't slower than on similar devices (one plus), there are enough vids on YouTube. I agree that missing spare parts are a problem, but the situation wasn't different on my last phone, which was a popular mainstream device.

So now you tell it yourself that after a year when this phone is already 1 year old with no support of hardware, will you recommend it to buy someone. Will you yourself buy it at this point of time when the next year is so close and next year's mid range phones are coming here whose camera will beat it without any doubt and also they will get better hardware support and better software support from xda.
I would say he should wait this year or should go for coolpad cool 6 as it sports a nice camera with 653 soc. But this is way too outdated.
The main problem is, this phone hasnt sold much due to which even the support from xda is not so huge as compared to redmi note 3(speaking from personal experience) which came early than it but have been sold twice more than le max 2. Basically the one which sells more gets more support from xda afterall the devs do want their work to be appreciated by more people

There are more than enough good ROMs on XDA, I really don't know why you wish more support. I would never buy a phone with a 6xx soc if I can get an 820 for the same money. The 1440p display is great for VR, but you are right, in daily use you probably wont notice a difference, it's just nice to be able to say "retina? haha now that's some low res ****". So I would recommend it, but only if you like to play around with different ROMs, flash tweaks, etc.
If you want to have a phone ready to use out of the box you should take another one.
I guess it depends on where you are and how cheap it is. I bought mine from ebay(US) for $200 (64 GB version). Had mine for a few months (its an x829) and I've had no issues with it. Fingerprint scanner works(though sometimes it does requiere more than 1 try, no screen flickering issues. The phone itself is not bad, ive flashed a couple of custom roms but always end up going back to modified stock. I would definitely recomend this phone, or the LE pro 3. Good bang for buck on both of them. Sure, we might never see official nougat but that doesnt bother me at least.

In stock rom this phone's power is way too low. Not even close to a 650 on custom rom

Dunno, I do some gaming and havent noticed lag on my emulators (ppsspp, epsxe) or in heavy games (I played unkilled and dead trigger, as well as a few MMOs.) I use crisballgreece rom with AKT profiles so whenever i play i use performance profiles. For me, the phone is ok, but only if you can get it cheap. The pro 3 is less than $200 on amazon US. Snapdragon 821 but the camera is a bit worse and screen is a bit smaller.

Yes i am not denying that the phone isnt best at its price rate but one shouldnt go for it majorly because the colors are oversaturated compared to other phones. Brightness is not so high as it should be. Stock rom is best but performance in it sucks. Also its already 1 year old phone so even the support from the xda will get less. So he should better buy something of this year or wait 4 or 5 more months to get hands on the good phones from next year
