Rooting with locked bootloader - Xiaomi Redmi 3 Questions & Answers

Is there any option to root a Redmi 3 Pro without having to unlock the bootloader?

I would try Kingroot. that might work for you

Kingroot doesn't work.
But maybe downgrading to some older developer build via edl mode would work.

No. Kingroot & other 1-click root apps can possibly soft-brick a Snapdragon device.
- Unlock your bootloader & Flash TWRP
- Boot into TWRP & Flash Universal Boot Img Patcher Zip
- Reboot to TWRP & Backup current ROM
- Flash SuperSU Zip & Reboot to System
Will warranty be void if i install recovery or root my redmi note 3 snapdragon?

[Q] Unlocking bootloader official way

I just bought Redmi Note 3 SD. I am running the latest global stable build based on LP. I wanted to move to Global Beta Builds. I tried to flash the recovery zip using updater app. But it always showed "couldn't verify update package".
So i searched a bit. And think it requires bootloader to be unlocked first. But I have some doubts :
1) After unlocking bootloader can I flash global beta recovery rom zip using updater app ? Or fastboot is the only method even after unlocking bootloader ?
2) If I am stuck at 50% during the unlocking process, will the phone wont boot not anymore ? Or I can boot it just like it was before ?
3) Does data gets wiped during bootloader unlocking ?
Thanx in advance...

1. Any rom that supports flashing through recovery can be flashed through the recovery.
2. If you are stuck at 50% while unlocking your phones boot loader, don't worry. Your phone will boot and work just fine.
3. Nothing will be wiped after unlocking your phones boot loader, everything stays the way it is.
I hope I answered your questions

And you don't need an unlocked bootloader to flash the beta global MM ROM. You can use miflash and flash the phone in edl mode. If you take a backup in MIUI first, you can restore all your apps and data too. If you're even braver, you can replace the stock recovery image in the ROM with ZXCTWRP at the same time so you can flash SuperSU, Xposed, etc. all with a locked bootloader.
Download an older dev build like 6.8.18 which should work through the updater app, then you can go to 6.9.29 after that.

Why we need to install 6.7.2 first when going from miui mm dev 6.9.x back to stable ?

I don't know. I'm perfectly happy on the MM beta and have no desire to go back to LP.
Good luck.
Just got my RN3 SD last week and I'll share what I encountered

No, you don't need unlocked bootloader to flash latest Global beta. What you need to do is boot to EDL mode and flash Global Beta through MiFlash tool.
TIP Make sure fist that your device is properly recognized by your PC through correct drivers. Usually the MiFlash drivers are sufficient but I had problems with the MTP driver so I had to search the internet for this

I don't think so since your error seem to depend on the updater app, and not the bootloader
TIP If you do decide to unlock bootloader, try to unlock in your current ROM first before flashing Global Beta. In my case, I applied for permission on Day1, Got my permission on Day 3, Failed to unlock until Day 5 where I EDL flashed Global beta and I was able to unlock by then. I think I could have unlocked faster if I EDL flashed Global Beta earlier

It will still boot. You just need to hold the power button long enough (you're in fastboot when unlocking)

No. Data gets wiped when you flash something in fastboot/EDL or when you wipe it in custom recovery
Other Info
ROM that came with the Phone is official MIUI 7.2.3
Global beta I flashed is 6.9.22
After unlocking bootloader, I flashed ZCX TWRP
After Flashing ZCX TWRP, I flashed xiaomi.eu ROM 6.9.29 and got bootloop. To fix this I had to flash LazyFlasher.zip after xiaomi.eu ROM and then did a factory reset via TWRP
Best Regards,
Tester

Yeah but i didn't wanted to move into this miflash stuff right now. I had bad experience with my last phone mi3 when i flashed it using miflash. So i want to just move to Global beta MM build using stock recovery..

I also got the permission 1 week back. But i read that it takes usually 1 to 2 weeks to get the data updated in their databases. And i don't want to go to EDL and MiFlash stuff yet. I had bad experience with Mi3 when i used MiFlash

Note 4 [SD\Mido] root on 8.2.5.0 Global Stable

How to root Note 4 Global with unlocked bootloader on newest 8.2.5.0? Tried few methods via fastboot flashing twrp through ADB. Doesn't work.
Sent from my Redmi Note 4 using Tapatalk
1. Were you able to flash twrp and reboot into it?
2. Can you elaborate a bit more as to what you did? Did you try flashing magisk or supersu?
I flashed twrp and when i reboot phone to recovery (vol up + power) it shows screen with USB cable and mi.pcsuite.com adress. So basicly I couldn't go into twrp to flash those files.

Use
Code:
fastboot boot <the_image_file_name>.img
instead of using vol up+power.
And then which files I need to flash in order to avoid restoring stock recovery? And in order to have root? Only super su?

The twrp part is explained here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...er-development/recovery-twrp-3-0-2-0-t3550061
Inlcuding a zip you need to flash when in recovery for the first time.
Then flash latest supersu for root. Worked for me
This way i lose OTAs right?
And later, after rooting, flashing twrp etc, if I decide to try newer Global Stable ROM version how Can i update? Through updater app, mi flash, recovery?

You can download OTA zips and flash them using TWRP.

Okay thanks! Just one more question: do I need to use fastboot commands every time I want to go to recovery?

No. After initially following all the twrp instructions you can then boot into TWRP using "adb reboot bootloader" or using the key combination.
Have you tried that on 8.2.5.0? I see people complaining about not being able to go into twrp with button combination, only via command.

Xiaomi redmi note 3pro (kate) root with magisk?

Hello, i have a xiaomi redmi note 3pro SE 3gb ram version, i unlocked officially the bootloader and would like to root it now. Is it possible to root it with magisk? If yes could you please help me with "However, you MUST have a stock boot image dump beforehand, and also be able to flash the patched boot image, either through fastboot/download mode or ODIN" this step since i am a new to this? If root is not possible to root with magisk could you help me with the easiest root available please? Kingroot and framaroot didnt work.
Thank you in advance.

You no need to patch the boot image.. Just flash Red wolf recovery through fastboot and then flash latesg magisk via recovery... It automatically takea backup of stock boot. Img before patching...
Thank you so much for the fast reply! This can be done only with red wolf recovery or can it also be done with zcx twrp?
