Fingerprint Sensor - LG G5 Questions & Answers

So i bought the phone yesterday,i opened it and did the casual setup including setting up 10 times my finger on the scanner.
So by the time the phone was setted for first time there were official software updates poping and i clicked them to download and install...after the updates were done i found out that fingerprint sensor settings were missing (both lock screen and fingerprint & security section) so i did a factory reset hoping it was just a minor issue...After the factory reset the options were still missing...i got 5 days left to return the phone if there are problems and i want to know if anybody knows
1.is the problem software related and i just need to wait for official update to get fixed?(i heard december lg launches official nougat version for the G5)
2.is it hardware problem so i take the phone back for repair?(power button works perfectly)
i really loved the phone so far especially the camera and everything and i really want to enjoy it (my prev phone had a lot of software bugs and i never actually enjoyed full of it...)
anyone know any fixes?i dont want to get into custom rom again (i really like the lg ui for change) if its software problem
Thank you for your time!

i guess no one has the same problem and my device is faulty?

I would try and exchange it because I don't have this problem and if a factory reset didn't fix it it's probably a hardware issue.

my bad people,it was NOT LG's problem, hardware AND software are perfect, its my first phone with scanner and i found out the hard way that to add fingerprint i HAVE to add a pin or a different unlock method before adding figners....sadly i rooted my device firstly to add cyanogemod and then i found out...so now i lost my warranty i guess...but at least now i know and if anyone else finds the same ""problem"" this thread will help him

Lesson learned for you. Why install a custom ROM right out from the start? Based on my experienced with my G5. It's performance is great. All things are great. I'm fine even if my phone is not rooted nor can't install a custom ROM. Unlike my G2. But by so far the phone is running great. So enjoy first the things on stock firmware.

i didnt want to install custom rom as i already had in my prev device (oneplus x) and i always likes lgs skin on android
but i wanted to see if the problem was software issue that cyanogen could fix in this case...i wanted lgs support to be my last resort as their services are bad, they tend to take week(s) to fix the phone and i heard from people that their phone returned scratched (that lg supported claimed they didnt do it)...so yeah i prefered to install custom rom and risk that i have to live without fingerprint than send the phone and get it back deleayed and probably in scratched condition
lesson learned indeed

[Q] [SGP 4.2] Random Shut Down

I've had the SGP 4.2 since August (North American version) and have become very fond of it. Although I've followed most of the dev areas, I have never rooted or installed any recovery, custom roms, etc...so it's on the stock Android 2.3.6 with 2.6.35.7 kernel and build number GINGERBREAD.UELD3. I have only installed things from the play store and amazon app store.
Sometime in the past week it has started shutting down randomly. Most times I notice when picking it up after hours of standby and it's fully off and need to boot up. A few times it has happened while in use - it just turns off. The battery level doesn't seem to matter, it can happen at 99%, 5%, and anywhere between.
Is there any way to tell if this is a hardware problem vs a software problem? Any other thoughts? I've not seen this problem in other threads, or at least not when running everything stock.
maybe a hardware issue.
see if samsung will fix/replace it

that was happening to me too. i just bought mine from best buy about 1.5 months ago. everything was fine, mine also wasnt ever rooted or flashed anything - just oem with playstore apps. then every now and then after about a month of having it, it would turn off and on by itself (only if it was idle though, without me touching it) its never happend to me while i was messin around with it. and then it started freezin up on me and gettin really laggy at times with certain programs but it was random and i couldnt reproduce it to try and pinpoint the program that was causing it. but then i read up on rooting it and the benefits of root and cwm and backingup everything and roms and since then, everythings perfect. better than new as a matter of fact. so in my opinion, you owe it to yourself to root your device so you can make changes to your lil buddy. i made sure i learned all about rooting and flashing and backups etc first though so i can do it safely. i mean, cmon i dont know about you but i paid alot of money for mine which is why i owed it to myself to 'safely' release the full potential of my device. :cyclops:
Totally agree that I want to start to release the full potential, thats' whay I've been poking aorund here for months (and tinering with my Acer tablet is getting old). My hesitation to start down that path is if there's a hardware issue I don't want to compound the inevitable probelms and end up with an out of warranty bricked device
Maybe I'll see what Samsung says. Like the previous poster - i can't directly replicate the issue so perhaps they won't replace, I'll see and update this post accordingly.

well one of the good things bout this forum is that it explains how to un-brick our devices if it happens. it was kind of intimidating at first for me too as this is the first android ive ever rooted and flashed diff roms. but as long as you make backups thru titanium and also a nand backup thru cwm and then use roms and kernals specifically made for your device that have been tried and tested and retried....then you really have nothing to worry about. and i also read somewhere that if you flash it yourself and somehow manage to brick your device, you can flash everything back to stock so your warranty wont be voided anymore - i could be wrong but im almost positive ive read that somewhere.

[Q] sk17i - touchscreen doesnt respond - sofware or hardware problem ?

hello friends. this is my first post because i got a problem with my xperia mini pro.
i have to tell you it from the beginning because i think it is important to understand where is the problem. it was about some moths ago when i had problems when my phone was in standby and someone called me, it happened sometimes that my touch screen didnt responded and i couldnt take that call and had to restart phone. after restart it was ok. it didnt happen so often but with tim (i think another month) i happened maybe once every day. and maybe a month after that i first got stuck during i was doing something in my phone - not in locked state. sometimes didnt helped even one restart so i had to remove battery for a while but after that it was fine. at least for a while. i think that problems with touchscreen (or maybe better with digitizer) happened almost every day. i tried also reflash some custom rom i used before but it didnt help. so it got into state when touchscreen stopped working and i was very happy when it started to work for a while. it happed sometimes after factory reset in android service menu and once after many times reflash of rom and kernel but only till next restart. i also locked bootloader and gave there stock rom and many times reflashed stock rom but nothing helped now.
Lets say i also tried some advices in that that tutorial about 10 different way to repair bricked touchscreen. but i am not sure if it is actually hardware or software issue. it is very important to aim my effort. i dont know if i shouldnt buy some whole touchscreen+lcdf or just digitizer for sk17i on ebay or on the other hand try to solve software issue and reflash, restart, reset bricked touchscreen.
i dont have much experience like some guy in mobile phone service. in my mobile service they told me it is hardware issue and they will repaire it but it is very expensive from them. but i dont believe that guys at all so i write here.
My phone is after the warranty so i got an idea to buy sopme used sk17i with a warranty, change display with mine and give it into the mobile phone service where they will change the touchscreen for free and i could sell that both phones after that. i dont want that xperia anymore. but this can only work if it a hardware problem
so what do you think guys?
thanks for your advices

If you did a clean flash with stock rom & that didn't helped than its an hardware problem!
But you are luck if your touch is miss calibrated or its an overheating issue.
Do your mini's soft buttons starts pressing itself?

i solved it with new lcd + digitizer from ebay and made some manual assembly. my phone now works great, so i suppose problem was caused by hardware

[Q] Xperia Ultra increasingly slow/ unresponsive screen

To keep things simple, I had a cracked screen on the Ultra which was replaced last week. However now the phone screen is slow and unresponsive after about a minute of use (fast & like new after right turning on however).
Ive tried the mod tweak found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522657
As well as the thermal screen calibration here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470070
There is no change with either mode. Cleaning with alcohol only works for a few minutes, and yes Ive removed the ASF for no change.
It should be noted that when booted at first minute or two, the touch inferface is quick and brilliant. After a minute or so it gets slower and remains so. Typing a text is a gruelling affair at that point,
Ran 4.3 android and updated to 4.4.4 and also no change in performance.
Does anyone have any ideas/ tips or pointers?
HELP!?!
An app with a memory leak?
Looks quite normal. RAM 1.1GB used; 600MB free.
Unless thats not what were talking about?
EDIT: might be up to something. using advanced kill on Go taskmanager EX and its seemed to do improve the situation in the short term. Will keep testing
Well got about that far thus far. The advanced kill works sometimes, but none of the apps look out of whack (from my basic knowledge anyhow)
Any help/ links in diagnosing a memory leak would be very appreciated.
Don't suppose you've got the Google now launcher? I had to uninstall as they introduced a memory leak in the last update.
Un updated it just in case.
Its tough as even watchdog lite isint detecting much. com.google.android.gms:snet at startup took 22% CPu but otherwise its steady.
Grr jezz I even did a factory reset to 4.4.4 and its still there. Would trying a custom rom help?
Well as an update manage to completely wipe and reinstall the OS. No change in performance however
Does anyone know if a faulty screen install could be to blame for this?

Could well be, but i find it strange that it acts normal again after a reboot? That alone indicates that it's something wrong with the software. I still hold a finger on a process gone wild. Do you have Recovery installed? If yes, re-flash the ROM or flash something else and see if that solves it. I would personally flash a stock ROM and flash it with Flashtool so you don't have to root or void any warranties, and it'll be the simplest thing to do in case the screen is still acting weird after flash, and you want to get it checked out again (since it most certainly will be a hardware issue at that point).
So, fire up Flashtool, download a complete stock ROM (TFT), flash it, test it. Is it working fine now? Sweet. Keep using the ROM. Is it still the same thing? Contact the repair center again and tell them what's up and please do tell them that you've already done a factory reset, since that's the first thing they'll do themselves. Do not tell them about Flashtool or any other hacks or tweaks. They'll probably blame you if they think that you're an XDA user. "Oh, so you've been playing with it, and you bricked it and wanna fix it for free, bla bla".
Ask if they can open the device again and check that everything is fine and that you haven't received a faulty panel.
Ive actually did a complete tft flash of the original xperia ultra software. No change whatsoever vs previous state.
Im increasingly suspecting a hardware issue. Could it be a poorly plugged in cable? Its random chugging/ smooth response is completely confusing...

Did you flash the exact same FTF that you've always used, or did you flash one from a different region? I would try the GPe ROM if i were you, just to be sure, but don't bother doing it if you're not rooted and ready to flash. Yes it can easily be a hardware issue, and you should probably contact Sony or your nearest service center.
As an update I tried installing a fresh tft flash of a different build but same issue.
Notably noticed that the notification light on the screen is not working at all, so currently looks like a hardware issue. Will keep updated for reference & visit a repair centre

Camera crashes, fingerprint does not work and battery drains way too fast

Hey folks,
I've been having few issues with my phone since i bought it brand new the day it released in Germany (I am not german however, haha) - sometimes it would be slow, it would overheat and apps would be crashing because of that.
In november last year, I decided to try and solve that headache (honestly not worthy of the premium price I paid for it when it was new) by unlocking the bootloader and flashing a different kernel (not sure which one now). All seemed well for a few days, but them the fingerprint scanner stopped working (hardware not found), camera would freeze the phone for about a minute before restarting the whole UI, the battery would drain at a stupidly high rate (1 hour screen on time would leave me with 50 % battery in the afternoon, and I am not even doing anything system heavy) and the bluetooth was as buggy as before (the notorious terrible range of it). :crying:
So i figured the kernel was at fault and decided to flash stock firmware from Sony. I tried 3 different stock firmwares and oh my god, It's still there. I think unlocking the bootloader has inflicted all this. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do to get rid of atleast the fingerprint and camera problems? I am almost certain I will replace the phone soon for something else, but for the sake of trying to fix what was wrong from the factory and for the fact I might want to sell the phone, I want to make it work. I don't think returning it to the store for a replacement would work, since I managed to crack the back glass at one point last year and they'll just refuse it for mechanical damage ...
Thanks for any suggestions. Phone's not rooted, I could not figure out a reasonable way on how to do it, I am not very skilled in this regard, even though I had rooted my 2 previous Nexus phones (speaking of which, I miss my Nexus 4, but no 4G and bad battery made me change to Sony).
Aaaaanyway, I updated to 7.0 Nougat from one of our nation's carriers and so far so good. Will keep you posted, especially if things go south again. :cyclops:

Lots of issues with LG V600TM

Hi guys.
I'm quite new here so forgive me if I put the post in the wrong place.
Let me try to describe my issues with my phone.
A couple months ago I got a new LG V60 from my wife (brand new but without warranty).
The first problem I noticed after a few days was that the fingerprint scanner wasn't working properly. I mean everyone can unlock my phone after a few tries placing finger on the scanner at an angle.
When I try to unlock the phone by fingerprint it takes ages (it's very difficult to unlock the phone for the first time). I was trying remove saved fingerprint and create a new one but the problems is still there.
Another problem is with losing signal from satellites when using navigation. I was trying Google maps, Sygic and TomTom and it's look like the Google works best but there is still problem with signal, quite often I get information about 'searching position'.
Next one is that the phone is freeze sometimes and I have to restart it to work properly. It's happening around once a week.
I was trying hard reset but it didn't fix it, then I downloaded the original firmware with android 10. I don't know if it helped because I got lots of updates and it ended up on the Android 12 again. At the beginning of use after this operation the phone was working better but after a couple of weeks the same problems came back.
I'd like to add if I want to do a back up I get information like this "the required google certificate has been deleted". On Android 10 this information wasn't appearing.
Do you have guys any idea what's wrong with this phone?
Thank you in advance.

I also have the v600TM on Android 10. I have had no problems with the fingerprint except after the first time I unlocked the bootloader (see 1st post for the fix). I did not allow an update to Android 11 or 12. Maybe you should try the fingerprint on A10 for awhile before moving to 12.
Hopefully you don't have one of those Chinese refurbs pretending to be new!

Hi
Thank you for the reply.
Maybe you right and I should try to use the phone on android 10 and see if it's works properly. I'll see what happens.
Do you know when android 13 will be available for V60?
As a owner of the V30, V40 I'm really disappointed of the V60 now.

Hi,
You're welcome. When you are new to a forum or group, its like you are invisible.
My current main phone is the V30. The V60 has been more difficult than past phones to configure the way I want. When I installed TWRP a few months ago it was a DISASTER! Installing MicroG (to replace google play services) has also not worked out well. I have limited funds and I am beginning to wonder if the V60 was a good choice.
There is already an Android 13 beta for some versions of the V60.
The thing with V60 is that it is newer than V30. So a lot of fixes are not fully cooked. With LG gone from the scene, there is no incentive for developers to pursue it with any dedication. I don't know if TWRP will be fully built for this phone.

I do remember how slow the V30 was in the beginning. Now the V30 has a bunch of ROMs and an OFFICIAL LineageOS! I hope the V60 goes the same way. I doubt it, though.

Hi guys
It's me again with another problem
As for the above problems that I wrote about, I decided not to do anything about it for now and patiently wait for the android 13 update and see what happens.
How happy I was when two days ago I received the opportunity to download the update.
The joy did not last long, as it turned out that I'm unable to download the update.
Previously, I got information like 'The phone is being use and update will be downloaded later' (or something similar). Now the update downloads for a while and pops up 'Installation problem' and cannot be downloaded (always in the same time). I restarted the phone, deleted apps, changed from WiFi to mobile data and still the same.
Do you have guys any ideas what can I do with it?
As far as I know the phone is from US (T-mobile) and I live in the UK.
Thank you in advance for your help

How to check if the bootloader is unlocked?
As I said before I haven't done anything yet with the phone as I was waiting for the update but I'd like to check it, maybe the bootloader was already unlocked

When the phone is starting up (after being off or rebooting) it will say something like: This phone cannot be checked for corruption. Lock the bootloader.
If the bootloader is locked I suggest you backup before doing a factory reset.
