Question How can I stop Windows from updating itself? - Windows 11

Sometimes Windows 11 prompts me to restart my laptop to update in the middle of work.

You can't completely turn off this but you can make a schedule for updates in the options. Go update setting and activate the schedule option when you are not working.

You can stop updates by using group policy. I stopped mine. My PC will not install Win 11 unless I allow it.
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update
Manage end-user experience.
Configure Automatic Updates.
Disable it.
Restart your PC.

Why would you want to?

You can use windows update blocker. It's free.
Download Windows Update Blocker v1.8
Windows Update Blocker is a Portable freeware that helps you to completely disable or enable Automatic Updates on your Windows system.

Why would people want to block updates? Most of them are security updates for Win Defender.

You can do it settings or use powershell. Google helps.

You should definitly never try to permanently disable updates if you want to continue using your system!
but you could do it more specific to your needs:
if you want to stop windows from automatically restart for update installations while you are logged on:
1. in startmenu search for "edit group policy", which should open 'local group policy editior'
2. navigate the treeview to
"Computer Configuration"
-> "Administrative Templates"
-> "Windows Components"
-> "Windows Update"
....
From here you have multiple options, for example
a: ....
-> "Legacy Policies"
-> "No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations"
b: ....
-> "Manage end user experience"
-> "Turn off auto-restart for updates during active hours"
If you really only want this to not happen during your working times, i would recommend using option b, but you will have to set up your "Active Hours" in windows Updates Settings for this to work..
do everything i described at your own risk, neither I nor Microsoft care if you break anything

To disable automatic updates temporarily, use these steps:
Open Settings.
Click on Update & Security.
Click on Windows Update.
Click the Advanced options button.
Under the "Pause until" section, use the drop-down menu and select how long to stop updates.
Another Method:
Open Start.
Search for gpedit.msc and click the top result to launch the Local Group Policy Editor.
Navigate to the following path:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update
Double-click the Configure Automatic Updates policy on the right side.
Check the Disabled option to turn off automatic Windows 10 updates permanently.
Click the Apply button.
Click the OK button.

I find this tool quite useful!
https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10

Open cmd as administrator and execute this code to disable AU Updates:
Code:
powershell.exe New-ItemProperty -Path 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU' -Name 'NoAutoUpdate' -PropertyType dword -Value 1 -force

there are options you can put a limited connection, or disable it through the registry

Finally, a way to block those annoying updates. Works fine for me so far, thanks a lot

You can disable the service that is responsible for updates: Windows update service (wuauserv). Open "Services" find "Windows Update". Double click it:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now set startup type to disabled:
Restart your computer. Note: This solution may work only temporary.
Or try:
Go to Registry Editor
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
Create key
Code:
NoAutoUpdate
Create DWORD (32-bit) Value. Set Value: 1.
Restart your system. To enable updates again, simply remove the registry key.

IIRC I stopped mine via the Registry. I am annoyed by Automatic Updates also, and while I still want to get updates, I don't want interruptions telling me that I need to restart to install them before I am ready to.

Only this solution is block update completely. You also can use StopWinUpdates 2.8.
DON'T STOP WindowsUpdate service, it's useless because it will starting automatically after period time.

Android 11/ColorOS 11 OPPO A72 Update with VPN

Hi,
I managed to get the Android 11 update with a bit of stuffing around and thought I would share for everyone else, I did this on a unlocked Australian variant bought from Optus, you're mileage may vary.
This will activate dual sim mode on the phone with a single IMEI, I left my location set to Europe so it is upto you if you follow the last step to remove Dual Sim Mode.
You will need to backup anything you don't wish to lose as a full factory reset is required.
Requirements:
OPPO A72 - My bootloader is locked, My simlock is off
CPH2067_11_A.54 Latest European ROM for the device - Download Here: https://support.oppo.com/nl/software-update/software-download/?m=A72
Oppo Free Unlock Tool - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...de-to-coloros-11-and-enable-dual-sim.4191787/
A Google account to download ExpressVPN (This is the second last step so leave for now)
A Windows PC with a internet connection
WIFI or Mobile data on phone.
Latest ADB Drivers - https://adb.clockworkmod.com/
Instructions:
1) Backup all settings and user data.
2) Remove all accounts and screen lock security settings on phone.
3) Format all data, factory reset phone.
4) Download Oppo Free Unlock Tool from the link provided to PC.
5) Follow these instructions to install Microsoft Loopback Adaptor -
6) Open Device Manager and expand the Network Adapters category.
7) Find your Loopback Adaptor and double click it to open its properties.
8) Go to the Advanced tab and find the Network Address option in the Property pane.
9) Under the Value pane, select the radio button next to the text box and paste in the following: 704D7B61ABCD.
10) Install ADB Drivers.
11) Extract OPPO Free Unlock Tool, You're antivirus may give a false positive so you will have to manually add an exception for the tool.
12) Go to where you extracted the unlock tools. Open Sec5.exe.
13) Plug in phone via USB and select "Transfer Files".
14) Enable developer options on phone and activate USB Debugging.
15) Press Allow when prompted to give PC ADB access.
16) Open Sec5 window.
17) After about a second, a string of numbers and letters should show up in the left pane, Press Start Unlocking and few seconds later, "OK" should start flashing in the right pane.
18) Press stop unlocking and disconnect phone.
19) Open the phone app on your device and dial *#3954391#. Then dial *#391#. A screen should come up with a whole bunch of regions listed. (Take note of the one highlighted in green as you will need this in the final step).
20) Choose this one: "Europe EUEX" and click Ok you're phone will restart.
21) Download the rom from provided link to the phone and install through recovery mode.
22) Add your google account and download ExpressVPN from Play Store.
23) Open ExpressVPN and start 7 day trial then set to Netherlands server.

27) Use instructions 12-20 to set your phones location back to your original setting.
That's All Folks
Hi! I'm from Germany.
I use Orbot and set the language to Dutch (Netherland). Then I went to Settings » Software Update. The new Android version 11 is now available. The version displayed is: CPH2067NV44_11_C.71
I have to consider installing this version as I don't know if it will lead to complications. Can I simply set the language to German in the settings? I don't have Windows at the moment and can only use Android tools. It is explicitly NV (Netherland Version) in the firmware version.
Whether that is EU or EUEX... no plan.
So far I haven't loaded the update either because I'm afraid that I will never get the "thing" to root.
Without root it's only half a smartphone, although I'm pretty happy with the A72.
Friendly greetings to everyone!

No need for VPN anymore, just for Europe version.
Just got a system update tonight. Without needing to wipe the device.

THE LOGIN PROCESS IS A BIT MESSY SINCE I'VE NEVER DONE SOMETHING LIKE THAT BEFORE AND I HAVE NO INTEREST LEARNING GOOGLE'S API & JAVA
The UI may not be perfect, I've done my best, maybe I'll update it when I'll have time.
Steps
1. Sideload 'ytlogin-mobile.apk' & 'gms-mobile.apk' on your phone(if you already have non-root microg, you'll have to uninstall it atleast temporary, you can keep using it but you won't be able to update it)
2. Sideload 'ytlogin-wear.apk' & 'gms-wear.apk' & 'ytmusic.apk' on your watch.
3. Give WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permission to YT Login on your watch using
adb shell pm grant com.down.musicresponse android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
4. Open Vanced microG Settings on your phone -> Add Google Account and login (after login it'll tell you that it couldn't establish connection to google server, hit ok)
5. Open YT Login on both your phone and watch and hit 'SEND RESPONSE' on your phone(the wear app should close at this point)
5.1 At this point you can uninstall microg(phone) if you want to
6. Open YT Music -> Sign In -> Add account and wait until the login is done(5-30 seconds)
7. That's it, select the account and enjoy YouTube Music on your unsupported Wear device (now you can uninstall YT Login on both your phone and watch if you want to)
TO BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD MUSIC
Go to Library -> Downloads -> Settings -> Disable 'Download over Wi-Fi only'
BATTERY OPTIMISATION
Open Vanced microG Settings -> Cloud Messaging and disable it
If for some reason the 'official' method doesn't work, you can do it manually
After you login on your google account on the phone(step 4), the login response will be saved in your clipboard, save it in a text file and pull it on your PC
Open CMD and 'adb shell' into your watch and copy & paste the following commands
settings put global email <YOUR_EMAIL_FROM_RESPONSE>
settings put global accountType <YOUR_ACCOUNT_TYPE_FROM_RESPONSE>
settings put global token <YOUR_TOKEN_FROM_RESPONSE>
settings put global sid <YOUR_SID_FROM_RESPONSE>

settings put global services<YOUR_SERVICES_FROM_RESPONSE>
settings put global firstname <YOUR_FIRST_NAME_FROM_RESPONSE>

Works great on my Gen 5 Fossil!! Thank you!
Can confirm, it works. I got it running on the ticwatch pro 2020 and I can even switch accounts. It really is just the phone app scaled for the watch.
holy **** this is amazing.. thank you!!!!!!! by the way anyone on chromeos using wifi adb the command is
adb -s *ipAddressHere*:5555 shell pm grant com.down.musicresponse android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
same for sideloading the apps its:
adb -s *ipAddressHere*:5555 install "gms-wear.apk"
This is incredible! Run of wonder in my ASUS ZENWATCH 2
YT Login on my Phone only get me a Black screen with boarder.
Literally getting my first watch delievery tomorrow. Thanks for the solution. Will update how it works on a square display (oppo watch). Any TG support group?
Edit - Got my watch delievered. Couldn't install ytmusic.apk through wear installer as it said the app is not made for wearOS. Used bugjaeger to install. Would work from a pc too but was feeling lazy
Followed the guide exactly. Great work dev. 10/10 recommended. Works decently IMO on squares.

[Windows 11] Installing WSA with Google Play support

Users of an Android based phone know that basically Google Play is their 'default' app store, and Amazon Appstore - what WSA by default comes pre-installed with - is just a 3rd party store. Both stores offer a wide variety of apps that can be downloaded on the device and cater to many of the user requirements. The main difference between both app stores is the fact that at time of this writing Google Play Store offers 3.8 million apps, whereas Amazon Appstore offers only less than a half million apps.
So if you additionally want to have access to Google Play Store from within WSA then you should install a copy of WSA that comes with Google Play supported. That's the reason why I have created this thread.
Legal Warning:
Adding Google Services and Google Play Store to WSA may potentially be in a legal gray area.
Requirement:
Virtualization must be enabled on your Windows 11 PC.
Take note that before you enable Hyper-V in Windows 11, you need to make sure the Hardware Visualization/ Virtual Technology is enabled in UEFI/BIOS - usually it's called Intel VT-X or AMD-V depending upon the brand of CPU in your system. This is because the option to Enable Hyper-V or its submenus will be greyed out once the Hardware Visualization is disabled.
So, let’s see how to enable virtualization on Windows 11 PC:
First, go to Start Menu.
Now search for Turn Windows features on or off & then hit Enter.
After that, enable the Virtual Machine Platform and Windows Hypervisor Platform option & then click OK.
At last, click on Restart now.

If WSA got properly set up, then you run Google Play from Windows Start.
When I get to this step, .\adb.exe connect ADDRESS , POWERSHELL fails. adb.exe is not recognized....
If you would carefully read the guide linked to, then you'll not run into any problems.
BTW: As a workaround you could add location ( fullpath name !!! ) of adb.exe to PATH variable of Windows OS.
I know this might be stupid to ask, but is it safe to update subsystem from the windows store? After you've done this much needed hack.... what were they thinking? Amazon? .... Is it safe or do I just live w/ not ever updating it.
i did the following steps, and im oddly able to connect using adb connect 127.0.0.1:58526 but not when i copy and paste the ip, .. idk what im doing wrong. even after i "connect" whenever i use adb shell it says error: device not found
i get error deployment of add -appxpackage. needs microsoft.ui.xaml.2.6.2.nupkg,,,,no idea how to install this
I tried to install this but I think there is some problem with the process.
I was able to install and open Google Play, but nothing happens when I click "Sign in"
I tried opening Gmail and signing in that way too with the same result.
Followed the steps....worked like a charm. Google play store and all apps that require google services are working
Collected all variants of WSA + PlayMarket and magisk.
Installation: unzip the archive and run install.ps
I still hope one day someone smarter than me will explain why simply side-loading Google Play doesn't work on a stock WSA install. In other words, why we can't follow steps similar to Amazon Fire tablet users to side-load Google Play. Well, I should say it technically does work as I initially went that route, but one is unable to sign-in to Google Play.
I followed a different guide than the one listed here, but they are all basically the same result - a custom repackaged WSA that can no longer update via the store... manual updates required (which may or may not be a bad thing).

Click the New menu and select the Folder option.
Name the folder WindowsSubsystemAndroid and press Enter.
Click the New menu and select the Folder option.
Name the folder GAppsWSA and press Enter.

Name the folder ADB and press Enter.
Click the New menu and select the Folder option.
Name the folder WSADownloads and press Enter.
Hope This Works,

Use Slightly complex method in zip attachedSamsung A7 Lite[LTE] Knox Disable hassle-free
Latest SamFw Bypass Tool v4.2 comes with an old method which allows you to disable knox security without resetting the device.
This method works partially when knox is disabled without resetting it.
Following are the instructions:-
Run app with admin privileges (duh)
Connect device with PC/Laptop using MTP mode (make sure you have driver installed or you can install drivers from Misc section of the App)
Click Disable Knox in Test Mode
After pop-up for Emergency Dialer*#0*# or *#*#88#*#*
Even if Factory Test Mode fails to run click OK and continue
Also if factory mode allow adb manually from settings if that option is available
App will do most of the work for you your device restarts without reset and you'll get Knox disabled right away
Notes:-
This method works even on latest update provided you have dialer access. [ Edit: If no emergency dialer use SIM card with lock on it that should give you a dialer ]
Knox might not be disabled completely but most of the restrictions are temporarily disabled till next factory reset.
Also Disable samsung bloatware to avoid reinstalling of knox from Galaxy Store. [ Follow thread 2 - 3 below ]
You can try this method from setup screen if MTP access is available, as it is highly unlikely to work on latest patched FW. If you don't have Dialer access use FRP BYPASS to reach Dialer App.
Also do not think this device is entirely knox free on some level organization control still exist on the device which is limited to monitoring only.
Last but not the least make sure to disable Samsung account & OTA updatesfrom ADB menu options.

Move Files extracted in Knox Disable to ADB Folder/Platform-toolsRun tool after adb is enabled or connect either USB or Wifi DebuggingAvoid: Don't try package pro disabler method if FW after Apr 2022 eventhat doesn't work due to latest patches
After ODIN flash USB debugging was there only for a brief moment [ this got Patched in March 2022 Updates and After]
I tried using wifi debugging on latest updates with patches using quick tiles toggle from developer options but there too security policies doesn't allow adb connection via server connect [ Noticed how if you don't connect to internet then it works fine ]
Using local shell with LADB one can disable knox using simple old command. As long as wifi debugging is available and doens't work on PC use split screen and 2 disable commands

I'm sure it won't though you are free to try. If on A11 then check by disabling knox from Android setup screen.
What about patched builds?
Exynos chip is good but not for qcom
Not working
@emeran check ADB and MTP connection then say [OR you are on latest patch]

MTB is connected but can't enable ADB, When I type *#0*# I think something prevents it from showing up
from where setup screen or unable to access via developer options. @emeran
@Abish4i Definitely you can't access developer options,
from setup screen
1- open the browser
2- open the phone dialer
3- *#0*# not working " when the code is entered, a screen opens and closed at the same time "
Works for me only after knox security is triggered developer options can be enabled, @emeran I think you are missing adb drivers or permissions.

U should enable adb manually and make sure you have drivers since you device is wifi only.
I have a tablet that has been reset, how do you get to the emergency dialer from the initial setup screen?

xD seriously, it is literally the first screen if you have wifi version than you don't have one then just connect and try without code if it doesn't work try from developer options by manually enabling it.

I've got the LTE version, the first screen just says Welcome, select a language, and Start. I can't get to developer settings because I can't get past the setup because of FRP

Ah firmware is latest Android 12. Maybe they removed the option.
So @zander21510 bypass FRP then try disabling knox you can find multiple videos on that you just need to get to Dialer App on your device or just Enable USB debugging.
Will this work with a Canadian version S20 Plus?

Guide for installing Google services from A to Z on Huawei P40 (updated 01/04/2023)

Remember that YOU DO ALL THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, I DO NOT BE RESPONSIBLE, AS WELL AS THE AUTHORS OF THE FIRMWARE AND FILES.
At the moment, who has devices from the box on EMUI 12, it is not possible to install services.
The given tutorial is valid for region 432 devices. I haven't tried other regions, it might work but maybe not.
And approach this case with a clear head, patience and straight hands .... and everything will work out, 100% CHECKED and so we begin.
Preparation:
We download all the necessary utilities and files, and save them in one new folder in an accessible place, for example, on the desktop;
Files for installation on a computer;
- Download the official HiSuite from the link
HUAWEI Hisuite Free Download | HUAWEI Support Global
HUAWEI HiSuite is the official Android Smart Device Manager tool,HiSuite helps users to connect their HUAWEI smartphones and tablets to PC and perform various tasks.
consumer.huawei.com
- HiSuite 10.0.0.550 OVE (EN)
- HiSuite 10.0.0.550 (CN)
- HiSuite.Proxy utility
Files for installation on a smartphone;
- Google Play Services 21.24.56 (GPS 21.24.56)
- Google Services Framework (gsf+10)
- Google Services Framework (gsf-fix2)
-Googlefire
All files except the first one are attached under the instruction
Save the last 4 files in your convenient e-mail cloud, then you will need to download them from the cloud on smart, because on version 10.1 - 10.1.0.131 the USB connection will not be active.
STAGE 1. System rollback to EMUI 10.1 - 10.1.0.131.
A. Rollback to version 11
If we are on EMUI 12, then we roll back to EMUI 11 using the HiSuite application on the computer. To do this, remove HiSuite 11.0.0.550 OVE if installed on your computer and install the previously downloaded official HiSuite. We connect the smartphone to the computer and perform all the proposed steps to connect and synchronize the smart with the computer. Next, after successfully connecting the smart with HiSuite, click on “System Update”, a window will appear and give permission, another window will appear and click on “Other version”, and then on “restore”. Smart will be flashed with a rollback to firmware version 11, which HiSuite will offer.

B. Rollback to version 10
If it is not clear to someone, I have written this instruction for rolling back to version 10, I am attaching a video (rollback is made up to 11; 25 minutes) by reference;
. Personally, I rolled back on this video.
I guess we are already on the 11th version. We roll back to the 10th version, and more specifically to 10.1 - 10.1.0.131, the most optimal version for installing services. To do this, remove HiSuite on your computer and install HiSuite 11.0.0.550 OVE and the HiSuite Proxy utility.
1. Install HiSuite 11.0.0.550 OVE
We install it on the computer and connect the smartphone, in principle, the same synchronization actions as in point A. Next, we close the utility, but do not turn it off, for this we need to configure it in the program settings, which can be configured on the screen below;
2. Install and configure HiSuite.Proxy.
First, delete the entries in the upper cells that are crossed out, the rest remains as in the screenshot
Next, we patch the HiSuite utility by pressing the "Setup" button, as in the screenshot above. If there are no red inscriptions, then the process is successful, the main last point was identical as in the screenshot below. So we leave the HiSuite.Proxy utility, DO NOT CLOSE.
3. Search for the required firmware version in the Huawei Firm Finder resource.
Open the Huawei Firm Finder resource in the browser using the link; https://professorjtj.github.io/
On this page, we need to pick up our 131st firmware version, how to do it? In the top line of filters, enter the data of the smart model, firmware region and the required basic firmware version. (Example; my smart model is ANA-NX9. The assembly number, at the moment, is 12.0.0.276 (C432E5R4P5). In the first paragraph of the Phone Model, enter ANA-N, then the second paragraph, the region, enter C432, for the Russians C10, etc. the third and fourth paragraphs are optional). Next, what are we looking for from the list? We need PRELOAD, CUST, OVS firmware. We find 131 OVS and select for download by clicking on “add rom”, we also do it with the subsequent PRELOAD and CUST. One BUT: PRELOAD is selected with the designation R of your firmware, for example, I have R4 from the firmware data 12.0. By clicking them one by one, links to the selected firmware components are automatically added to the HiSuite.Proxy utility in the upper cells that you previously cleared.
An exception in the process of selecting firmware for the Russian region C10, we do through the upper right menu "Database", then select "Downgrades" and already select the firmware, as indicated above. In addition, in the network and Internet settings of the computer, if it is not activated, we activate the VPN.
I am attaching screenshots;
4. Open the HiSuite utility on the PC (smart is connected to the PC via USB). Next, the rollback process is the same as in paragraph A. At the bottom, click the "System Update" button. A window opens with a suggestion to downgrade the firmware version and click Update.
During the process of downloading and installing the firmware, do not close the HiSuite and HiSuite.Proxy utilities on the PC. Good luck.....
Hope the process went well. Before starting with the installation of services, download 4 files from the cloud on smart, which was indicated at the beginning of the instructions. In advance to a new folder, suppose the name of the Program.
STAGE 2. Installing Google Services
1. Installation of services, the process itself.
The best instruction for this process will be the following video (the process we are interested in starts at 10;29 minutes) at the link;
(By the way, this video also includes a downgrade for the P40 lite, practically a complete package of Installing Services for the P40 lite.)
My advice is to review carefully. And then get down to business, slowly, pause, return along the track if necessary. In the video, everything is practically chewed and clear, I installed it successfully the first time. I hope you install the services successfully. I will make a reservation about some of the nuances that I encountered, due to inattention and ignorance, I had to reinstall again after each successful installation.
Important point!!! In this process, you will have to change the year in the smart settings, delve into the course of events. But I will be brief, the first time you bet on 2019, the second time on 2021, and the last one on autotime and will return to the current year.
At the end of the installation, there will be moments of testing the play market, the main thing is that it opens and you can unwind the options. And even if you can’t enter the playmarket account settings, don’t be scared, everything is OK. Further, after the process is completed and the smart is restarted, notifications for non-certification may still pop up, this is how the card will fall, do not be alarmed. After the reboot, contrary to everything that I read to you above, we proceed to the next item.
2. Push activation
- On smart, open the “Files” application and look for a folder with 4 downloaded files.
- Install the GPS file 21.24.56.
- We go in the settings of the smart, applications, applications, in the upper right corner, click on the four dots and select Show system processes, look for the Google Services Framework in the list and delete it.
- Again in the folder with files and install gsf10.
- Open the Phone application and enter the code *#*#426#*#* to check the activation of push notifications, in theory the result should be CONNECTED.
- We repeat the removal of Google Services Framework.
- Again, in the folder with files and install gsf fix2.
We reboot the phone and then check the push method above. Ready...
!!! Further important actions after all;
We go to the Play Store in the settings and turn off auto-updates for applications.
Then We go to the smart settings -> applications -> applications -> Google Play Store -> Traffic statistics -> Transfer in the background (transfer to the disabled position). We do the same step for Google Play Services.
Enter the Google Play Market and disable Play Protect.
We do not update Google Play Services, AT ALL !!! Google Play Services only works with version 21.24.56 installed by us.
We do not install any clone application. Services are not friendly with them and can present another hemorrhoids.
3. Device certification.
We do according to the instructions, simple and understandable, by reference;
Как снять блокировку Google Play: "устройство не сертифицировано Google"? • Android +1
androidp1.ru
. After the process in the play market in the settings, Information, the annoying “Device is not certified” will disappear, but after a while it will come out. Do not pay attention, does not affect the work of the Market.
And lastly, update the system only via OTA (over the air).
That's all.......
If you have any questions, write in a personal, I will answer as soon as possible.
I wrote the given tutorial on the basis of several tutorials, and on the basis of my experiments and mistakes, to finally arrive at a perfect and 100% working tutorial for the moment.
