Subject: XDA fails to turn on phone

Hi there,
I've got a XDA, bought with a O2 Netherlands subscription.
My ROM-version is 3.14.13 ENG
The Radio-version is 4.14
The problem is that when my signal drops very low, after a while
the XDA resets by itself. After this there is hardly no way to
get the phone module back on. The only way to get the module
back on, and it seldom works... , is to reset the XDA multiple
times. Or when I place the XDA back in the cradle.
Can anyone please tell me if there is a solution for my problem.
It's really annoying when you are away from home and you're XDA
can't place any calls. It happens to me several times a week....

Try this:
- go into bootloader mode
- when GSM ready hit the top right button
- select GSM OFF
- select GSM ON (wait for the menu to reappear)
- reset
this works for me. They just told me it's a problem with RS 4.14.
I can live with it since it only happens when I turn it off explicitly and not when I go out of coverage.

I have similar problem, the MDA shows it's on signal but noone
can reach me. The provider says that I'm switched off but the
phone shows that everything is OK. When I find this out, I
always have to do "soft reset", when it reboots, everything
works well.

Hello Guys.
I´ve got the same Problem, that on the phone everything looks
right, but when someone calls me he gets the message, that I´m
not reachable.
Tought that it might happen everytime I turns the XDA off. But
some tests have shown, this is not the problem.
Looks like i have to to every hour a Softreset to get the phone
worked. This isn´t a configuration to life with. Trying to
change the phone via Support.
But maybe one of you got an other solution.....

We have experienced some similar problems. Phone displays enough
received signal strength, but is unreachable from network. It
seems as if the update of the signal bars just doesn't always
work well.
(Did get somewhat better as we upgraded to newer versions of OS
and RS though...)

i have similar problems using a d2 card i a simlocked O2 xda :-]
i have network the whole day and everybody can call me..but if i
loose network..it will stay lost...only power off and on the
phone will help...but i have a O2 card to..i ll test..
A few people have now suggested that it could be because the XDA is blacklisted as stolen (tho I bought mine from eBay...)
Can anyone comment?

Bought mine XDA at Ebay too and had also problems with the signal.
I called the O2-Hotline and told them to change it.
Received a new one, but have the old problem. XDA shows signal, but when someone is caling me I´m offline...
Maybe there are some differences in old and new Sim-cards....

hmm i thought i bought a simlocked xda on ebay..as i used manipulator and kabel..there stood : simlock : <none> !!
ok my d2 card work in this phone..one prob seems to be the networksignal..if i loose it it stays lost..the xda does not try to find new signal!
maybe a software version bug?!
ill ask O2 shop in 2 days about updating my xda...
Something news about reaching my XDA....
I´ve done yesterday an update to Rom Version 3.15.15 Eng and Radio VErsion 4.16.00.
Looks like the phone work better tried to reach me after being online for about 10 hours and it works. It never done before. Will test it some more time, but now i´m a little bit happier .

LumpiStefan, does the upgrade improve the actual signal on the xda, I live at the bottom of a hill, where reception is poor, and I'm lucky if I get the single dot at the bottom of the aerial icon!
Additionally I did recieve some spam today that was of interest suprisingly, and is "on topic!" what do you think about this, it sounds like a scam to me, I mean how can a wafer thin pcb "loop" that is not physically connected to the antenna improve the signal propagation to the phone!

Some news concerning to the SIM card type:
Recently I was in my mobile operator service center and we test SIM cards from two different vendors. We try a few cards from each vendors, so these results are dependable
xda don't like (or even hates!) SIMs by GemPlus.
Radio stack O2 v4.16: sometimes failed to find network after lost it
Radiostack qtek 3.23: as described by XDA developers 15 Jan, 2003 (good "signal level" but nobody can reach me and "unable to read network" message while reading network services settings);
xda feels well with Schlumberger's SIM cards.
Unfortunately, this information didn't solve my problem, because GemPlus "empty" (not bounded to phone number) cards are only available on my provider at the moment
And - IF ANYBODY CAN, please. be so kind and let me know if anywhere O2 4.20 radio stack upgrade available :? Not qtec3.23 but O2 4.20? Just to experiment if it is possible to reprogram above 3.23 and check the situation. Please... my email is ae(at)ae.inc.ru Thanks in advance.
Does anybody experience of the message "Wireless Radio is OFF....blablabla"
This sucks bec even if my battery is 50% or more and the radio signal is good, This message suddenly pops out. They say that soft reset will correct the problem but after soft reset my O2 XDA wouldnt connect to carrier network anymore.
For me to connect to Phone network I have to plugin the charger at least 10 seconds then my XDA connects immediately to phone. The problem is I have experience being outside ofc or home and experience this, then my XDA phone feature is now useless.
Anyone there who has some fix for this problem.

The interesting part is that I purchased this phone for some of the cool features like recording conversations, because I have had numerous bad experiences with my old Cingular wireless service. Anyway, so I call T-Mobile to discuss the problem (and record the conversation). The CSR Rep told me "the GPRS systems have a cue, and that the longer I leave the phone on the lower in the que i get. By soft resetting my phone (xda Pocket PC) that it put's me higher in the que. Well this does not work, and when I told her how amazed I was about this and that I was glad I recorded the conversation, she phreaked and told me to stop recording, then proceeded to hang up.
If this is ture I am really amazed, but it still does not get me higher in any que, when the service stops, it stays stoped until some time that it decides to come back on. (T-Maobile Atlanta, Ga. area)

Hi everyone, I am sure i have read something about this in the forum befor but now cant find it.
I have a 64mb XDA that works fine, I about a month ago cooked up some roms all using the first version of 2003, i am also using radio 4.21 and i am in the UK on O2.
My problem is the coverage is not so good in places i go and the phone goes out of service, but the real problem is when i return to proper coverage the phone will not go back into service.
when the phone goes out of service there are dots undere the siginal aerial and they flash 1,2,3 1,2,3 etc but after a while they stop and if then i got back into a area of good service the phone will not log on, its as iff the phones tries to find service for a few mins then just gives up to save battery.
A quick reset and it works fine, but if you forget to reset it you have no service until you remember to reset it

Take out SIM. Go to bootloader (hold power while soft-resetting), then press calendar button after "WAIT" disappears. Select GSM 900/1800. Insert SIM again (close cover well). soft-reset.
Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately "I receive GSM turn ON fail !!"
No matter which option I select...
When I go into Device information, there is no info regarding Radio version or protocol - used to be info there before...
The last thing I did before this happened was making a call, and the next thing when I picked it up there is no phone any longer...
SO, what would next step be? Can I reload the phone software somehow?

Problem Solved!
Dont ask how - but the phone went completely out of charge as I left it for dead a few days.
When I plugged the charger in, just to check my calender, it started to charge and Radio was back again...
Amazing product...
Well, I guess you got lucky!!! I am happy for you. So you left it for dead:
a) how many days?
b) sim card in or out?

I think about two days.
(The Qtek was turning on/off itself, blinking with backgroud light now and then until it went completely dead. I of course lost all data etc. bit thats OK
Why not try to remove the battery in the unit? To really reset it...

I did it. Cracked it open, took the battery out. Put it all back together, and still have the same problem. This is a tough one to solve.
Any other ideas?

I have a problem with LG Optimus One 10Vn
From time to time it loses signal completly and won't come back only if i reboot the phone.
I've restored to factory but it didn't solved the problem
And i'm not the only one with this problem a colleague has the same problem

I also struggled with this problem. From time to time the phone lost the connection to the german provider T-Mobile. Seems to be a problem with some Micro-SIMS.
I upgraded the firmware vom V10A to V10C, which cured the problem for me so far!

I have the latest FW V10N
i have the same firmware and no problems so far ... installed it about 4 days ago , data connection works fine connected 24 / 7 no signal problems at all .
This happens only if i loose the signal then it won't come back only if i reboot the phone
I also encountered this issue a couple of times a few weeks ago, hasn't happened since, to get service back i just turned airplane mode on and off. Don't really know what made it stop. (Vodafone Romania)
If it still does that try a hard reset and if it doesn't work go to vodafone and tell them to exchange it @ warranty ... Dar sa fii mai cu tupeu ca romanii nostri sunt nesimtiti la garantii

it i'll get that error again i'm going to warranty to get another one
Had the same problem. Phone was working fine, came back one day to find it shut off and [no service]. Nothing worked, airplane mode, complete wipe.. nothing.
I was about to return it when I tried one last thing..
Wifi and Networks->Mobile network settings->Network Operators->Search networks
fixed it.
Hmm then it seems like an OS bug. If the signal drops it won't search for it again
What nerwork are you on ? It's weird i never had this problem ...

Turning plane mode on/off won't solve the problem. Neither searching for networks like some one said. It finds all carriers available but won't connect to any of them. Only rebooting gets signal again, which is a bit frustrating.
My fw is v10a... I think this is the last one available in my country

What's about SIM card? Do you have it long? I heard about some problems, if somebody had too old SIM card.

It has at least 7 years. Maybe I'll try to get a new one to see if it works.
