control the xda - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

can i control the xda from an external device, also to dail ?

I'm sure you will be able to soon. There is very little support for some features that are now considered 'standard' on many basic phones. However, the scope seems to be there in the product to allow it. I'm hoping that future updates will provide (without 3rd party software):
- dial from PC
- SMS from PC
- (GSM/GPRS) modem from PC
- Edit SIM from PC
- MMS (can't be difficult)
- Caller profiles (ring tones etc).
- Fax support
These should all be possible - that's just the software shortfall. It looks like we're permanently screwed as far as SDIO and wireless LAN are concerned.

I think I know what you want, and I want it also--to be able to select a contact in Outlook and have it dial, etc. The closest you can get right now is to use the Microsoft Remote Display Control. You will see your XDA screen on your computer, and can do anything you could do on the screen. You can get it from the downloads section of pocketpc.com and it is free.

Yeah, I've seen that tool, and it does the job, but it would be nice to have some of the standard tools you get with Nokia/Ericsson. SMS Manager, and GPRS modem etc.
This product still has a long way to go. Still, we all love it.

Create SMS on PC... Send via Activesync / XDA ???

Is there any software that allows me to create an SMS on my pc and then send via the activesync connection with my XDA in the cradle? I used to have a T68i with software which allowed me to do this via the serial cable and it make s life way easier!
There is no software to do this, but here's what I do... Use the free remote control software from MS to write messages onto the PPC screen with the PC's keyboard, and "tap" using the mouse.
cheers carlos
SmartPhone Studio is what you want!
Search on this site for my thread on SMS Backup XDA II (or similar)
Details there thanks to the other guys.
Great little free program PLUS allows you backup and restore SMS messages!!
Enjoy
Preview - Jeyo Mobile Companion - it rocks!
Hi guys!
I've posted before looking for help with backing up and restoring sms messages. The best was SmartPhone Studio - a freeware program which was designed for smartphones but worked reasonably well with XDA.
Well - that program has been tweaked to a T for XDA and works a dream! I got a legit preview - which naturally I'm not free to pass on here, but it really is the biz!
It connects your PC to your XDA through Activesynch - both USB and Bluetooth work really well - making sending and receiving messages much easier if you're at your desk. There are other programs that do this however this is the first program to have easy, swift, and RELIABLE backup and restore options for your texts.
This means that after a full hard-reset you can get your SMS inbox and sent folders back to exactly the way they were. You can also back up the entire folders as text documents in case you prefer to archive them as a continuous document. It is exactly the program I was waiting for and, judging by other posts here I know there'll be many others interested.
It runs long messages together as one continuous message, (though naturally your network will tot up the math!). It has a very nifty interface with your Outlook contacts, and a basic display of system information, memory power etc. The style is very snazzy and professionally-understated.
I have no idea what the price will be but it will be retailed through handango.com I believe. I gather release is within days.
If you like texting, and don't like the idea of losing them after a hard re-set, you'll love Jeyo Mobile Companion.
No, I am not on commission!
Best regards to all

Freeware - MemoMe a voice memo to your mail box

hi all,
====================================================================================
a new version is now available for android - go to google play
====================================================================================
after a long time where i had so many tips and software solutions from this community it is about time a put something back to it.
i have been looking for an application to allow me record a voice memo and send it to myself as a reminder with a voice clip attached.
found a commercial program that did not do it as i wanted so had decided to do it myself.
MemoMe is a light application that enables you to record your memo when you just got an idea or remembered something you do not want to forget, like when you drive or just do your shopping... it goes to your mail or your secretary mail etc. easy to use and configure. it supports all WM devices and all screens.
MemoMe uses any one of your existing email account so no data is passed on and your personal info is untouched, this is mainly for security reasons so no
one can use your smtp info or expose your user is & password.
as said it is offered as a freeware to all as a tribute to this wonderful comunity.
as per donations etc - is you feel like donating, please think of someone who really needs it like poor children etc or donate to charity.
a nice thank you is much more than i need.
http://download.arkom.co.il/freeware/MemoMe_Freeware.CAB
have fun...
OK, the first official release is now available for download.
change log from the pre - release:
- UI was completely changed.
- many internal engine changes
- sound effects were added
- the send engine was totaly changed and due to security reasons there is no direct SMTP support at all. the only mechanism supported is sending the Memo using the internal outlook engine. any existing account can be used and the configurator shows all available options. in the older version there was a need to provide your SMTP server, username and password - not very good for security...
this way no sensitive data is stored to be a potential risk.
if i will find a way to use a public service or any other option were no info will be stored i will consider.
setup & update procedure:
just download one of the setup packages either EXE or CAB and install it
if you have installed any older version i recommend you uninstall it and delete the folder to make sure nothing is left behind
run the config utility and just follow the few selections and save.
very easy to use and nothing to write a manual for
now you can use the MemoMe app and enjoy !
for any questions or requests or ... just let me know
may you all have a great weekend
=============== 16/09/2009 ================ Version update ==========================
there is an update available for download at the same links above
ChangeLog:
- AutoPilot: it is now possible to set the app to load in auto pilot mode where it does not show all 4 buttons etc. the app loads directly in recording mode where there is one big stop recording button on screen. tapping the stop recording button will automatically send the memo and exit.
naturaly the standard mode is also available - look at the configurator screen...
- SoundCompress: there is an option to dramatically compress the memo file sise (for internet air time saving) a typical 300 KB file will be ~20KB (!!), of course voice quality will be a slightly lower... but realy not too much
- Splash screen time is neerly nothing now on the AutoPilot mode...
- Configurator is automatically loaded if first run or no INI. no need to exit and run configurator...
- internal engine modifications...
- no change in pricing model - this is still the same - free
in spite of huge interest from mobile operators to use it as an embedded application to increase data the application will stay freeware.
will be glad to have your comments (and wish lists)
===================================== 19/12/2009 ================================
a new version is now available for download - 1.5.0
- a major UI change was done and major internal engine
- the audio quality is well kept but can now bw compressed
- you can now select a differentrecording time by just entering your rec time value in seconds
- any device - any OS version - any screen resolution
this is the last and final freeware version as the application will now go to its commercial phase with many more features.
for most of us this basic version is exactly what we need...
=======================Version update to 1.5.1 =============== January 20 2010 ======================
a new version is available from the link above
- time recording bug - fixed
- compression bug fixed
- added indicators for compression mode and time recording / time left
====================== version update to 1.6.0 ================== Jan 23 2010 =======================
new version, answering to most requests
change log:
1. audio engine completly renewed - now normal audio will go as WAV and compressed as OGG

note: if you use soundFX you will get a beep in audio file every time you pause so you can know where you paused
if it is not wanted stop soundfx in config
enjoy...
enjoy !
Help me with Setup
Hi, I am having problems sending to my mailbox I am not sure of the smtp address, could you help with the setup if its not too much trouble, I am using windows live mail........................Thanks for the neat apps
currently the application supports 2 options of sending your Memo:
1 - using your SMTP information where you will have to enter your SMTP server, User & Password and to mark the Authentication if your server requires (most do).
2 - using your AS pocket outlook. if your device is configured to sync your email using pocket outlook (means your outlook can send / receive email) and the default account name is ActiveSync, that option will send the meno using this account. so when you next manually Send/Recv or it performs an automatic Send/Recv according the time intervals you specified.
the nextversion will ofer a different mechanism - either you use your outlook and by this BTW you dont even have to know or provide your SMTP info or the application will directly send using a special set SMTP account I will provide it internally.
i hope by this weekend i will have sometime so i will update the application, in the download server there is a "fresh" version - with fresh user interface that is the final UI from now i will update the functionality only -
- it will allow taking a photo, add a memo to it and send
- it will allow sending to third party as well
and the "wish list" is getting longer and longer as other guys are also sending feedbacks with ideas...
one thing will remain - as much it will be further developped i will keep it free, that's my obligation to this great community that provided me with so many free applications so far
Thanks for the information I will wait for you updated version, btw great work and thanks
you can now go back to the first post - i've updated the post (and app)
Thanks for the update..I didn't notice any changes in the UI, I got the same UI as the previous ver... there were some changes in the configuration.. didn't see any option to take a photo either maybe I downloaded the wrong file?????
oh, i see.
you probably downloaded the temporary version.
the previous version had a simple blue backgroung and the white one with rounded buttons was just added, but that is not your problem
the version available now is the latest one (last night) and is final (before the next one )
as i said the next version will have the camera option and more, it was important to get to a final look and functionality before going to futuristic features.
trus me that the next version will not take years ( it is under design right now but i have my real day job to attend first, this is only a hobby)
keep on and buzz me if you need anything
Thanks a lot, this ver works for me just finishing testing
good, i'm happy.
enjoy it and please send feedbacks on your experience
comeback to see if there is a newer version
send your friends too...
BTW - what device you use ?
very impressed....
tested ..MemoMe ..on my blackstone with standard rom ,working very ..very smooth for me ..!
for me, it is very handy, for reasons, you also set out and more ( if you just want to be a bit lazy, in typing short email ,this is it ! )
thank you
thanks Willcor, really pleased to hear that.
it did not come out of being lazy it came out of a real need - say you are driving or just walking, you just remembered something or were told something you do not want to forget... i operate it over a voice command so when i drive i just call the app by its name - record and send...
next will come as said a photo attachment so you will be able to take a pic add comment and send.
next will come third party reciever...
and i hope to add a voice recognition to so you can dictate...
have fun

of course - if you record and not send or the sending failed the memo is still stored in memory - usually the file is in the program folder so easy to find.
next time you run the app you can listen to the record and send
if you try to record when there is an unsent memo you will get a worning and then can choose to overwrite or go back...
Using it on my touch diamond2, it works like a charm, thanks!
just two simple questions:
1) does it sync with outlook?
2) can the voice memos be attached as tasks?
thanks a lot for your fine work!
two simple answers:
1) if you meant pocket outlook - the answer is yes - it uses outlook to post your email to yourself. if you meant pc outlook - no need to as your pocket outlook should sync to your desktop. MemoMe then sync to pocket
2)no. the voice memo goes as an attached file via email to your inbox, that's what it says in first place.
Nice software.
But
When Sound Effects are off it still plays some sound when it starts, buttons pressed etc.
If you wait until max recording time in pilot mode it hangs. It draws blue line till screen end. You press hand button. Button become a clock. It again draws blue line till screen and hangs.
oops, i will check it out ASAP
anyways there's a new version in the oven just about to be ready
thanks any how for your comment
That is great - I'll wait for new version
Could you implement pause button? So one could start recording, press pause and then continue recording to the same file?

Barcode data transfer idea

Hello XDA-Developers!
I had an idea this morning.
Current Transfer Tech:
Bluetooth - Requires the user of both devices to enable their bluetooth devices, then they have to go about pairing the devices to allow file tansfer (this is not always the case though). then the, shall we call him "sender" has to select a file and attempt to bluetooth the file to the, shall we say "reciever", who in turn has to accept the data and then the transfer starts.
Wifi - not used very often but files can be transferred through an app or through an ftp server etc from one device to another. this however requires a little, if not more, skill to complete and can be fustrating looking for ip addresses etc.
NFC - this is an emerging technology that is being implemented in more and more devices such as the Galaxy Nexus. This is a very efficient and fast way to transfer data from one NFC enabled device to another NFC enabled device, however like most of the android community, my phone does not have this capability.
My Idea:
This is just an idea and you may say what you like about it but i thought i would write it down here, the first place that came into my mind where i thought that someone could take this idea further.
Now my friend uses a blackberry, and i know that that word is almost taboo on this forum but hear me out. He uses his blackberry for a service called BBM (Blackberry Messenger), i am sure you are all familiar, and to add a friend of his so that he can contact them using the service, he simply uses his blackberrys camera to scan a 2D Barcode on his friends device and all his BBM Pin and other data is transfered through the phones camera so that they can communicate on the service.
I though that this could be used more on android devices. This could be used to transfer small files from one device to another such as contact information, websites (already a reality), even larger files such as word documents and other reletavely small documents. Now i know that these files cannot be displayed on a single 2D barcode but maybe they can be send using not one barode but a series, the barcodes could be in an animation on the device screen, showing one barcode after another all and the "reciever" could simply hold his device's camera over the animation and it could read the series of barcodes and then compile all of the data to create a single document.
Now i realise that this could be a silly idea as the ammount of data that can be transferred through a 2D barcode is not huge, al lot of barcodes would be needed to transfer a larger file than someones contact details.
Let me know what you think, and you are free to do what you want with my idea, i wont hold it against you

Hello
I know it's a little late (only 3 years lol), but I just wanted you to know that I've implemented a system similar to the one you describe
It was my college's final project

[Q] Select contact on tablet - initiate (dial) call on phone - talk on phone

Hi,
The Situation or: what I'm looking for:
1. Nexus 7 with Google Contacts app
2. Non-android phone (Nokia N8 etc.) or really any dumb phone paired to Nexus 7 via bluetooth.
3. Select phone number from Contacts on Nexus 7 -> connected phone dials the number
4. Talk on phone.
As I have a very extensive and nicely organized list of contacts in my "People" app (Google Contacts) on the Nexus 7, I would just like to be able to select a number there and have the bluetooth-connected dumb phone place the call, so I just need to pick up the phone and talk, not dial the number manually on the phone.
Right now, when I select a number in the Contacts app on the Nexus 7, Skype - of all things - starts and wants to dial that number apparently.
Instead of Skype, I want the number to be sent to the connected bluetooth phone. Surely that HAS to be possible somehow?
Even though this should only require a simple ATD command to be sent out via bluetooth and it's a functionality that every automobile bluetooth setup can do (dial from the steering wheel etc. -> connected phone places the call), I couldn't find one single, small app that does that.
In the PC world, this is sometimes known as CTI (computer telephony integration), basically you dial a number on your Windows PC (e.g. using on-board "dialer.exe" or using Outlook, and your phone places the call). So now I'm basically looking for a simple, one-way TTI (tablet telephone integration).
I did find Tablet Talk, which looks very nice, but this one needs a client software to be installed on the phone, which therefore has to be Android, so it's unusable for my case. I'm pretty much looking for a universal solution here, i.e. Android tablet to any dumb or smart bluetooth-enabled phone (or even another android for that matter), which, given that bluetooth is a universally specified protocol, shouldn't be much of a problem, in my limited understanding.
So I'm looking for any advice or pointers here:
Am I missing something? Why hasn't this been done yet? Are there any deeper problems to what looks like a rather simple task at first glance?
Is there an app out there that does this which I may just have overlooked?
From my point of view, to problems or "routines" would have to be solved/written in an app that does this:
1.) Get the Google Contacts app ("People") on the android tablet to send numbers via bluetooth or to our "middleware app" (to be named) instead of sending those numbers to the Skype app (which might just be a quirky configuration on my Nexus 7, but it illustrates the use case).
2.) ATD command to phone via bluetooth, sent from the tablet
Thank you so much for any tips or insights!
Cheers.
I also need this, did you ever figure out a way?
Congratulations on the excellent write-up of what I want as well. One thing more: I'd like to send and receive text messages as well.
As I understand, the bluetooth Message Access Profile is needed for the latter. I assume bluetooth MAP can also be used to access the tablet's phone list from your phone. For just setting up a call, I believe several Bluetooth profiles are suitable.
There's also this a topic about a remote dialer for the Note 3 on these forums. I have ordered a similar dumb phone and will post my findings!

Accessing Android device that has no physical buttons and executes custom app.

I have recently purchased an IQ Panel 2 (Android 5.1.1) home/office/etc. Alarm system.
I assumed I would have access to the full Android OS, not root access, just basic access like all phones and tablets. (this is NOT the case)
The Tablet/device starts with the power button and from there goes directly to the custom alarm software app.
There are NO physical buttons (other than the power button) that I can see on the board inside the case.
There is a USB port but apparently it is only for charging.
The device supports Bluetooth but only via the app and not the actual 'Bluetooth Settings' screen on Android and therefore I am unable to pair a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse.
I have the desire to add Tasker and a custom launcher such as NOVA launcher so that I can have even greater control over my Z-wave and Bluetooth devices as well as additional custom notifications etc.
A port scanner shows port 8883 open but I believe that might be for z-wave communication?
The device has expansion slots on the board. 2 are in use and a 3rd is open for a secondary image sensor and a 4th is for future expansion.
Any suggestions on how to proceed would be of immense help.
I hate the idea of returning this device because of this limitation.
I have spoke with the manufacturer Qolsys and they informed me the end-user is blocked from these features for obvious reasons.
There is a youtube video detailing everything about the device: Qolsys: IQ Panel 2 Technical Webinar (Can't post links yet)
Thanks in advance for any help.

I just got a Qolsys IQ Panel 2. I feel the same way. Were you able to root the Panel? Using the full Andriod opens the door for a better IQ Panel.

Could you also help me with this iq panel I recently got it and want full features
Update
No, unfortunately I was never able to get basic access or root access but I did accomplish the original features I wanted via an older Android phone on wifi only that I use in conjunction with the IQ Panel 2.
The secondary phone runs a few apps and sits in a separate room with the screen dimmed to near black/hardly visible screen brightness.
It performs the following functions:
Custom voice commands including disarming the IQ Panel on a weekday morning schedule at 7am and/or by talking to the Google Assistant via my personal phone or a family member's phone or a Google Assistant speaker of which we have several throughout the home.
Turning on the smart thermostat when the temperature in the home is above or below a certain temperature.
Opening the garage door via voice command and being alerted when it is open or left open as if it were a window or door sensor.
Setting voice profiles so when opening the garage door or disarming the IQ Panel only that person's voice works. My voice or my wife's but not guests or the kids voices control these functions.
Being able to have the alarm disarmed by my children's phone via Bluetooth but having the alarm disarmed notification go to email instead of text.
(Necessary because through the Alarm.com website limited settings.. my kids would be notified everytime we get home and since they don't live with us anymore that would be annoying to them daily to get texts but they still need to know the alarm had been disabled by the their Bluetooth phone proximity to the IQ Panel and email only when their phones are in proximity and disarm the alarm. Email solves this.
All of this could have been done with just the IQ Panel if we had basic access not even root but one older Android phone from the past that stays plugged in at all times solves the dilemma.
I do this by running the Autovoice app on the extra phone. Autovoice integrates with Google Assistant and between those two apps, Tasker app, the Alarm.com app, smart thermostat app, Auto-input app, and Autonotification app, Tasker send mail add-on plus a little time and setup it works flawlessly.
I believe this was less then $20 total for all apps.
Basically you can have the Autovoice app set predefined voice specific commands interact with the IQ Panel alarm.com app notifications and respond to those notifications with a predefined event.
My service is not monitored but to use the Bluetooth proximity alarm disarm feature built in to the IQ Panel 2 system you have to at least have basic service which I pay $14 a month to Geoarm.com. This also gives me the Alarm.com website service where I can set other rules that the alarm follows and the spare Android phone interacts with.
The Apps have widgets on the screen of the spare Android phone. If the IQ Panel 2 sends a notification via the app, the Autonotification app sees this and launches the Auto-input app which presses one of several widgets on the spare Android phone (as if I opened the Alarm.com app and pressed buttons/widgets myself)
It would have been nice to integrate this into just the IQ Panel 2 but about an hour of setup and configuration with an old phone on wifi only, the right apps and $40 ($20 for apps and $20 for a Google Assistant speaker) works too.
Hopefully this breakdown will help anyone with an IQ Panel 2.
Final thoughts:
I have 2 of these systems, one in my office and one at home. Since the office environment is not a family enviroment and a much more set schedule (closed at night etc.) None of this is necessary and the IQ Panel 2 works fine right out the box. With today's smart homes like mine with smart cameras, smart lighting, kids and pets with doors and windows opening at random times I think they should give us basic app installation rights on the IQ Panel 2 but..
I love this thing either way ?
I have tons of these alarm panels. I haven't tried to flash them, but assuredly it can be done.
My thoughts.
*The open port you have noticed is definitely not zwave, zwave doesn't use tcp/ip nor its ports of comm. That open port is likely a ssh or vpn to alarm.com or qolsys server for updates (tftp?)
*USB port. Have you tried using a OTG atapter? Doubt you will be able to put into debug mode for adb, but might see if you can connect with adb. Also think JTAG. But you could likely flash its firmwars the same way updates are pushed. Dust off your *nix box, run wireshark, may have to do a mitm to strip ssl, sniff out the server, intercept the update file, md5 checksums, spoof server on airgapped network, etc. But if they can update it, you can break into it.
I have been working on trying to figure out the Qolsis IQ panel. I found that it listens on two ports, 8883 and 12345.
8883 is MQTT however it requires a valid client certificate to connect which I'm trying to see if I can find.
12345 is a TCP websocket, you can connect to it with curl like curl -k https : / / 192.168.x.x:12345 and you will get a json stream of alarm events.
If you'd like, we have a thread on the Home Assistant forum where we are trying to figure this out too.
If you go to the home assistant community and search for qolsys you will find our post (I can't post links yet)
