UK XDA will it work in IReland - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi All
Wondering if anyone could answer a query.
I have a friend selling his UK XDA and I said I would buy it. Just need to make sure it will work in Ireland on my 02 sim card here?
Anyones help would be great!!
Thanks

Should be fine, you can download the latest updates from o2 ireland if necessary.
When you put in a new SIM card it will ask if you want to reconfigure unit with card to local settings, its foolproof.
Both UK & IRL gsm networks work on the same frequency.

i come from cork but live in luton and my uk xda works fine even i have tried it with 2 different irish sims

Can't find network in France, works okay in Germany

Hello,
I normally live in Germany, and use a pre-paid Vodafone SIM in my XDA there. I am in France for a while, and because my SIM is pre-paid there is no global roaming. So I bought a local pre-paid SIM, but it doesn't work in my XDA, can't find a network. But the new SIM works fine in my friend's Nokia... And my XDA is not locked, it was locked to O2 when I bought it but I used the tool from this site to unlock it...
Does anyone have any idea why it can't find a network, even though the SIM works in a Nokia? I thought maybe the band switching tool could be useful, but I think Germany and France use the same band so that won't make any difference... Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Suzie

Xda in Hong Kong

I was given a xda (O2) in UK. How can I use the phone (function) in Hong Kong?
well being that it was from UK and o2 one would asume that it's
900/1800 and unless hongkong use the US gsm which is 900/1900
then it would work
that is unless o2 dont have a network in hongkong and the xda is locked
but then you just need to unlock it

I am from NY but travel to HK often.
My XDA works great there. USA CDA is (900/1900)
so I pick up many networks on 900 mhz.
I can either use my NY sim card or buy a local one. I have good
luck with the Orange network.
Is your phone unlocked? If so, you should be able to slip in any HK sim card and go.
If this is an XDA I, you will want to look through this site for links to
cook your own ROM.
Good luck and Gung Hei Fat Choi!

just a quick question?

I have just bought my mates SGS2 which has got which is on vodafone, i got home and tried my O2 sim in it and it works
The question is, is the phone unlocked or is does O2 sim cards work in vodafone SGS2's?
Cheers guys
mmm...i think it is unlocked! the second opinion seems so strange...
O2 is not Vodafone network so its unlocked .

Cheers for the time to help me
Unless he unlocked it himself its highly likely that he got the phone from phones4u or a shop similar, these are GSM phones unlocked to any network, at least that's what mine is

Can you use the i9300 internationally?

I don't really understand how cell phone providers work, but my friend is in Germany for another year before he comes back to the US.
Would Samsung Galaxy SIII Smartphone (16GB, UK Sim Free Unlocked) work from the amazon.co.uk site for him to use on T-Mobile in Germany, then return to the US and use it on a new contract at Verizon/T-Mobile/Sprint?
It will certainly work in the UK and Germany, with the same modem. The phone will operate on the right frequencies for the USA but I'm not sure you'll get the best out of it, as there will be no specific modem for the i9300 in the USA. Calls & texts will certainly work but data could be slow or none at all.

How to know if a phone is unlocked

I am wanting to buy a phone off amazon.co.uk and i am in ireland. The listing is 'Honor 7 4G UK Dual SIM-Free Smartphone' . So even though it says its sim free it also said 'UK' so does this mean its only usable in uk and not ireland or does in work on any network
Hello,
Welcome to XDA.
Your thread will be moved to your device forum. The experts there may be able to help. Good luck.

It is sim free and it works on any network, limited only with supported frequencies. In Ireland and other EU countries there is no limit.
