Will new O2 xda software re-lock phone? - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi,
I'm successfully using an unlocked 02 XDA 32mb in South Africa. I see on www.myxda.com that 02 has a new software update out, offering many things such as faster GPRS. Sounds great, but what I want to know is, if I install this update, will I suddenly find myself with a locked phone again?
Secondly, does the GPRS baud rate setting make any difference at all?
Thanks,
Justin

No, unlocking using the Maniuplator uses the same mechanism you would have also used if you had been given the unlock code. Hence you will never be relocked by newer versions of the phone software.

Great.. now I can't get the software..
Hi,
That's great, but I tried to register on myxda.com and get the new software, but it won't accept my IMEI (Have double checked for typo's over and over again) - has anyone got the software for me?
Thanks!
Justin

Okay I found the updates on http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/xda/romupgradedownload/0,,170,00.html (ROM 3.14.13, RSU 4.16) but just browsing this site there appears to be so many different versions. Is this the latest/best version to use with my xda? It seems there are some bugs, and it may be better to stick with what I Have (ROM 3.02.00 ENG, RSU 4.01)

Quest
Be careful when you upgrade. Make sure it is
the right one or you might end up with a dead xda,
like lots of people who got the wrong upgrade.
It is better to upgrade from where the xda's supplier's web.
For example if you got a O2Xda from O2 Uk, you should
download the upgrade from there to be safe. ok?

ROM updates
My XDA is a Siemens SX%^ att&t can I use the O2 Rom Upgrades? Will I lose any functions? any knowledge? Thanks.
Steve

Jus, the upgrade on the O2 UK site is way better than your current 3.02 ROM. Definately upgrade, you will see big improvements.
Steve G, no your SX56 has different hardware to a UK xda. If you did run this upgrade it would screw it up. You need to speak to your supplier for upgrade software.

Unlocking

Hello everyone,
First I would like to congratulate all of you for what you are doing. I would say I was more than impressed and if there is anything I can offer you guys I will do that. I am a programmer and currently I am developing Wireless XDA applications. I do have a problem and I am hoping that you might be able to sort me out. I purchased a T-Mobile PW10B1 XDA in United States and it was from T-Mobile Company therefore it is SIM locked. I live in Kenya and I really need to unlock it so as to use it on our local Network. It is having ROM Version O2 3.14 and I tried using 'XDAunlock.exe' but got an error.
Therefore the questions arise, how do I get ROM Version 02 3.16 or higher as I never purchased the gadget from QTek? Secondly, how do I tell if the XDA has Wireless Modem feature and is it mandatory? Lastly, how do I unlock the gadget?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Peter.

Best rom for an O2 XDA <english>

wow you all do some really great work! I've been reading all the fixes for country ID etc.,... mucho respect to everyone for the research involved in getting the upgrades working.
I have an O2 XDA II uk. The SMS bug is really annoying me and since O2 haven't come out with a new rom yet, I'm tempted to try one of the others.
I guess there's tmobile 1.60? imate... and now a new qtek one as well?
What's the most recent/best rom to go for? Ideally I'd like to KEEP the gprs ALWAYS ON even when turned off/suspend... I believe the tmobile one changes this to disconnect *yuck*.
Any advice welcome.. ps. do we think we've learned enough so that I'll be able to apply an o2 official upgrade over the top of a qtek/tmobile etc? It looks like with the info on changing the ID of the files we have?
best upgrade for 02 xda
I also have an 02 xda II but it was purchased from Asia. Rom version 1.03.00 USA. I would also like to know what is the best upgrade. Thanks, A.

Warning! 1.66WWE preloaded O2 xdaii devices

Dear Guys, i thought I might want to share these with all of you, just incase you are deciding to do something stupid...
In the place I worked, I help my company convert devices into chinese platforms so to serve our chinese customers better... and of course other languages as well..
What happen was that, I was doing upgrades till the versions of 1.60WWE on O2 xda ii, turning them into 1.52CHT which I downloaded from O2 myxda.com
Now, got an order yesterday, and so i provide this services for my customer again, upgrading the O2 to chinese.
Being so damn comfident, I double click on the CHT upgrade program, and then walk off for dinner. Guess what happen! I have a dead deviced, and the CHT program just shuts off before I could read the ERROR message.
Back to the company, try the INDIANA JONES trick(a name I thou of which descrides a technique, that one of the guys in these forums shared on how to recover from 1.72 T-Mobile to lower versions by using two devices)
And no it did not worked, then at this point I come to realize that the version numbers on this new XDA II are 1.66WWE.
I think what happen is that, the most i could get to was att he stage of erasing the ROMs and it keeps getting stuck at 0%.
As I am typing this message, I am trying to upgrade this dead O2 into a T-Mobile 1.72WWE. and then re-use the indie trick.
Cheers

Virgin Media UK Rom

Ok, is it possible to get the official hd2 new rom on my virgin media hd2, im currently running 1.66. It says my serial number is invalid on the site because its a branded phone (but its not network locked). Also, does flashing a custom/new rom thats not correctly branded void warrenty? thanks.
I contacted HTC about this as I am also on Virgin and they said they don't support Virgin mobiles :S Bit off considering I got this as a contract deal from Virgin
"...bit off considering..."
of whom? htc? not really, it means virgin chose to support their own phones, rather than let htc do it, which would have cost them (virgin) more.
same with most networks, they lock the phones and handle issues themselves, and in return their purchase price is reduced.
goldcard is currently the only method to get a working 3.14 rom on our provider locked phones, gimme a cid and i'll make you one.
Thanks strange, I'm on Virgin and dont have any issues at all
I have gone back to cooked roms and have HSPL on the phone
Have you looked for a wwe serial to use instead of your own?

not that that would be any use, because if it wont download using your serial, it wont install on a phone with that serial, unless you use hspl, which makes 3.14 roms not work.
Besides, if you are gonna use a different serial, you might as well just download it from somewhere that doesnt require a serial, , the leo stock roms thread for instance.

Unless Virgin have made their own ROM for us (which they obviously haven't) then it is out of order.
They shouldn't sign a deal unless they can keep phones maintained, especially buggy ones like this.

heh, dont get me wrong, im right behind you, god bless the capitalist way,,, everyones a winner except the consumer.
Well after speaking to Virgin tech support, they have not stopped you flashing to the latest ROM - they encourage it!!
Go figure it out
In fact I have just entered my serial number - they are Zero's not O's
and it allowed me to download and run (I aborted at the last option) so its not Virgin is it?
I also work for them and vouch for the info
Well I've just been on the HTC website to once again try to upgrade my ROM, it won't even let me download it as it says the software is unsuitable for my device.
I'm looking at putting my phone onto Windows 7, are there any tutorials on how to do this? I've never flashed this phone before.

Vodafone Rom upgrade.

Does anyone know if they're going to release an official Vodafone ROM upgrade? I've contacted Vodafone and they sent me a text with a link for the orange ROM upgrade??? I was also told around mid-October that it would be released in a week??
are you sure they didnt send you to THIS page for all downloads, , , on which currently the top entry is the orange 3.14 rom? (and is also the page that any carrier 3.14 roms will appear)

Yes samsamuel, it was. I would have preferred it if they'd just said keep and eye on the hTc website, as that's what I've been doing for about 2 months anywez! Thanks for the reply m8. They sent me the following email:
Hello Paul,
Just to let you know that prior to releasing or approving any software update for our Vodafone customers who have bought a handset through Vodafone, we test it thoroughly to ensure it provides customers the best possible experience on our network.
Our testing process begins as soon as we receive the software, which often happens once the manufacturer has already released the open market version of the software.
During the review process, we report any issues with the software back to the manufacturer for them to address. Once the firmware is approved by Vodafone, we return it to the manufacturer and they will then distribute the software to customers through the appropriate channels.
We undertake this process with every device that we sell to customers, regardless of whether or not the handset contains Vodafone branded software.
If you have purchased the device from another company (Phones 4U, Carphone Warehouse etc) it is possible that the device may not be on the Vodafone version of software. In this case the manufacturer would be in control of releasing any future updates.
I trust the above information helps.
Kind regards,
Pravin Raut

Vodafone is so bloody annoying. I remeber it was released first on vodafone rather than orange, so how come orange got update before them. They had released ROM for HD mini, HD2 might be on the way....... no good vodafone !

I agree. I can't understand how orange got their update out before voda? Not only that, they then go and release a ROM upgrade for the hd mini? I just hope it comes out before year end?
