Very busy, loads of new people.. - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

First of all: this site seems to continue to attract new cool people, and I'm greatly enjoying the easy way we all seem to work together.
The whole site got 20-30% busier relative to a week ago. We're averaging well over 1000 visits a day now. These are probably mostly new people lured by the prospect of the Special Edition ROM and its ability to unlock without the serial cable.
Communities like ours feed on fresh blood and new ideas. So let's all try to be extra nice and tolerant these next few days and weeks. Some growing pains are probably inevitable, but think how some of these new folks are likely to bring interesting knowledge and experience. (Even if most of the others just bring newbie questions you've all seen a million times.)

A big thanks for the hard work on the site guys, a great resource. Starting to feel a bit more comfortable with my XDA now

Yeah! you guys did a great job! and most of all I like the fact that you are not trying to commercialize this. Respect...

i just joined up because this community reminds me of another kick-ass community that I also joineded: The Tivo Community. This forum has the same passions, feel and excitement. I love that I have found a place to hang out that is ACTIVE and chock full of great information.

LOL as much as I doubt they would.... if these very kind people did try to "commercialize this" they'd find a lawsuit in the post by HTC, O2, T-mobile and just about every telecoms company that supports the HTC-wallaby device...
Even if O2 cant support its own userbase...
Personally I think its a shame that the O2 official support had to be done as an april fools joke. By far this would have been the best move that the non computer literate O2 could have done.
Unfortunatly maybe it would mean this site becoming too busy and overwhelming the developers?
Ian.

"Yeah! you guys did a great job!" ...seconded
Hi guys,
Just wanted to leave a quick thank you for the work you're doing. I've been able to do some great things with my device due to this site and the great community that's developed here.
I live in Australia and the XDA is pretty expensive over here so I bought a T-Mobile unit from the US. You guys made it possible for me to get the thing unlocked and online as soon as it was in my hot little hands
Many thanks.

Great work guys,
i cant comment on excellence!
Keep it up and whatever you need from us as support we will do it.
Regards

Update...
Remember I posted the webstats halfway through June? It got even busier since:
To put that in perspective: look at the monthly totals:
I'm glad our community still functions as well as it does, given this insane growth.
You're all fantastic...

Exponential growth continues...
As you can see above, the site used to do 1 GB a day on really busy days in June. We did 2 and 1.8 GB on 1st and 2nd of July respectively. About 2/3 of that seems to be forum traffic, and we get 1600+ visits a day now.

Getting a 3D phone to the devs

Sorry if this is COMPLETELY newb, got my flame suit on just in case...
But it would be great if we could have one of those people who got the 3D early to let the devs here borrow the phone to work with the bootloader.
If the certain individual needs to be financially motivated, slap a donate button on either his username or another well respected member's name so the community can send gifts of thanks his way.
How great would it be to have it up and running starting june 24th...?
I got your donation right here!

The phone is coming out in a week dude.
After it gets permarooted, I have no obligations to throw in $10-20

wow. guess i really needed that suit. with this kinda attitude, i am incredibly grateful that the devs overlook these types of comments and still provide their work to us for use for free.
if the same sentiment is shared by the community, we can just let this thread die.
Donating $10 or $20 is one thing vs. donating a $500 to $600 phone. Even a small donation is appropriate if you find a DEVs efforts worthwhile, show your support!
If I use a dev's work because he makes my phone better, I have no issues donating to them.. but I'm not handing cash over to someone so they can get a phone in hopes that they do something great... specially before I have my own.

+1 lol good one
Trust me, I'm sure one of the devs will have something great for us before we're completely done playing with our phones. The phone will be released in less than a week. We can be patient.

agreed.. plus we have several devs that have already said that they are getting it.. some that have reached legendary status around here, so its not like we are going to have a shortage.. you like what they do once they do it, or you have a dev you know is coming, then donate..

thank you, friends
What a shame! I'm sorry, Miro,r eally bad news!!
I hope you will be able to recover your work.
Oh! So sorry to hear that Miro. I hope you'll be able to recover your stuff. Don't worry, you were and you'll remain our hero. No matter if you were not able to finish the last two ROM's.
We realised you had already said you were stopping work for the TG01 anyway.. and had done a little extra for people anyway
Real sorry to hear that your laptop got stolen! I hope you had insurance! Thank you for all your hard work, and bringing something different to the TG01 community.
Damn bad luck but nwm imagine they stolen your car
This is really Not to belive. ...O.K. I Had left the notebook in pocket on the back carseat. Never thought that such a thing can happen during the day :[
Never ever leave stuff on display in your car. They will take it and you will also have to replace a window.

there is still a chance,
if you had sim card that connects with 3g/4g provider, you can go to provider and tell about the situation, they should track it with autolog.
Just as phones an IMEI numbers
but if stealer wiped all the data from it, you can just wait for police.
There is a MAC address option for tracking, but it is expensive (i think about 1000 euro).
too bad, but you should never leave anything on sight in a car. My brother lost window because of empty backpack

Mozilla Seabird 2D

Whoa Mozilla labs has plans to build their own OS based on android. Its just a concept right now but its crazy to see how far technology could go. The original article was on gizmodo but I thought id share since were all bored and arguing around here anyways. I looked for this before I posted it and couldn't find anything similar in the 3D section.
Here's the video.

The article from gizmodo.

Edit: This is my first time hearing about this, i guess im late to the party lol. *facepalm*
That video has been around for a while but the news about them building an OS using Android is new. Sounds like a UI on top of Android to me though.

Ahhh yeah does sound like a custom UI sort of like sense but the article said they arent adopting java; could be interesting. I know im late i barely found that video lol.
If that thing was ever built, it'd be the most expensive smartphone that has ever existed, haha.
Can't imagine the battery life on that thing.
I saw that about a year ago and I don't think we are much closer to it being realistic. It looks amazing but I think we are years away from anything close to that.

Damn its that old lol sheesh; yeah battery life would probably be god awful, you'd need a backup generator in your house to keep it going lol. @buckley im sure it would at least be 1000 at minimum.

I need to patent my idea of a solar cell on the back of phones. I read about this a while back.
If Android Firefox's development is any sort of benchmark, expect to see Seabird in 2089. ;P

Although they don't have the same sensor technology for typing and stuff, you have been able to order phones with built in PICO projectors from overseas forever. I own a Pico projector seperately and it is awesome. Not much bigger than the 3VO. Well, like 3 times thicker, but can fit in your pocket.
Again, they've been making them for years overseas, so why the have to pretend being able to project your phones screen on to the wall is some future concept is silly. I know it has a lot more features than that, so it is a concept phone. But I just think it's interesting that projector part has such a wow factor when they are made everyday.
This is from CES 2009. A Samsung phone for Korea:

This is the projector I have owned for years:

Poetic's Free Cases

So the company Poetic Cases gives away a free case each week. Figured I'd start a thread where I can alert folks as to when they mention a new case giveaway for the Note 3.
Right now they're doing a Halloween giveaway that will grant the winner a free case for the device they choose:
http://www.yourpoetic.com/blog/129/poetic-halloween-costume-contest-on-facebook
Thanks for starting the thread. I went ahead and entered the costume contest, so any votes from XDA would be appreciated! I'll do a nice and lengthy review on whichever case I end up with if I win as a way to give a little something back to the community .
I'm the penny. I'd love your vote!

Ha ha...thanks. I sent it to a few folks and before they had it, I had received another few votes. Add in the 5 people I sent it to and I'm in the lead!
Every vote helps
A bunch of others jumped way up and a buddy discovered you can vote more than once after he refreshed and kept seeing the Spiderman going up by one every refresh. If you vote, then refresh the page, you can vote again. I know the case isn't worth much, but I just want to win one of these contests for once.
If anyone gets a chance to hop on and put some votes in, I'd appreciate it! I can't make up that gap on my own!
haha that's awesome, I saw that one. You definitely got my vote man.
And holy crap, dude! It looks like they used your submission for a Facebook post yesterday hahah that's awesome.

I put this on a different forum and I think one of them figured out how to exploit the loophole. I jumped up a ton today.
Unless it was someone here....
Thanks for the votes. We'll see if it holds out until tomorrow!
Ha ha ha.. that's rich coming from a Gap cashier. Not worried about his opinion.
Time to vote, though! Need unique votes to win! Ends at midnight.

10 million sold and we can't even get a 1,000 people to sign a petition to have their bootloader unlocked (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2490930). That's not a force. That's a bunch of spec junkies willing to settle for the status quo.

No amount of signatures will get that to happen. Samsung doesnt care about awhat just 1000 of its users want when there are 10 million who dont care
Even if we got the 1000 signatures that would be .01% of sales (so far)... not even a ripple in the pond...
I know it seems like a big deal to us because we're all here on the forum all the time and the buzz around here is all about hacking and jacking our phones till the early hours of the morning... but... to the vast majority of consumers... non of this means jack squat.
Try joining the galaxy note 3 community on Google +... Over 4200 members... posts flying through there at warp speed... and nobody knows what the he'll I'm talking about when I post screen shots of Safestrap or Hyperdrive or Wanam exposed mods... people still flip out and think they are legally in jeopardy if they root... This phone is causing a mass migration of iPhoners and it's a good and bad thing i suppose... samsung is leaning more towards closed platform where possible to make things dummy proof...(i can't even begin to describe how much that gets on my nerves... iPhone was supposed to be the smartphone... android was the phone for smart people)... but at the same time, with sales the way they are we will see a lot more aftermarket products and accessories... just roll with the punches i guess... it is what it is.

I haven't signed it. I haven't written my request for an unlocked bootloader in a note to Santa Claus either. Equally futile wastes of time. Then again, I just went ahead and bought the one with an unlocked bootloader (Dev Edition), so I guess I'm not willing to settle for the status quo.
