David,
Have a good long read of this:
http://www.pocketpcpassion.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33678
good luck!

Hi there - great information thanks - now I'm a little confused though..
I'm new to the concept of upgrading my unit (see Newbie thread - but it's not that interesting ;-)) I was going to flash Jeff's 1.1 ROM onto it, but now I read this ..
Does the 1.1 ROM have "always on" GPRS, or should I be looking at PPC 2003 if I want this ? Which ROM is better ?

it depends more of the radio stack than the CE ROM i guess.
i didn't have a permanenet gprs on SE 1,1, but i had to upgrade radio stack to 4,21 to have it working on my PPC2003 version

ok I understand now, but what are the differences between the two ?

between 2002 ans 2003 ?
if this is the question have a look at the post concerning ppc2003 in the rom update forum and by screenshot on pda site reviews to make up your mind about it.
Personaly there are no "big" changes only a suite of little features.
info bubble are more detailed
accessability to sound and some dialing interface
connexion management has been simplified to the extreme
of course the pseudo permanent gprs (ok it does not shut off when incoming calls are engaged but it is not really active btw so it will time out any ftp or irc session on the xda for instence).
well many little things taht made a suitable evolution.

cheers - yeah that's what I meant - it's all sinking in now!
will the new version of XDA-dev ROM (1.2?) be based on the 2002 ROM or the 2003 one ?

PPC 2003 upgrade

Dear all,
I am currently running ROM V. 3.17.03 and radio stack V. 4.21. and recently contemplating on installing PPC 2003. I have also read tons of unpleasent articles about severe installation failures. Would any of you guys know whether I can re-install my existing rom version in case the installation of the new 2003 version does not work fine. Any other comments concerning this are extremely welcome. Thanks in advance
I've been back and forth twice now with no problems, however I could not go from PCC2003 to o2's 3.17, said something about authentication, but you can go back to xda dev 1.2 and then, if you wish, install o2's 3.17.
The above was using the Programme A way as I don't (yet) have a card reader.
If you have any concerns I recommend waiting a little while longer till the next version comes out.
My thanks to you York mate
I've also (and a few other friends) managed to go up and down quite a few times without trouble.
Go for it!
2003
i have installed 2003 twice with no trouble i think the secret is to follow the instructions properly.

One more concern to you, generous mates. I have read somewhere in this very forum that the units bought in ASIA are not supporting the PPC 2003 due to some differences in their physical designs. Any comments on this. Thanks again in advance.
One more thing: TO Poci: If you prefer the ppc 2003 over the version 3.17.03, you can download the unofficial release at no cost, thanks to our generous friend, Ali. The site ishttp://www.ali.nildram.co.uk/xda/. Cheers
also you can find the ROM at

I have an ASIA unit, running it in Australia fine with the 2003 ROM and 4.21 Radio. I think they are just trying to force people to upgrade to the new XDA II when it comes out.
Jeffrey
Hi again
Problems seem to come and go at their own will. Great news is I have successfully installed the ppc 2003 while the worst news is that I just discovered that my newly and expensively bought external keyboard ceased to funtion since the driver installation indicated versions incompatibility. Any suggestion on the keyboard driver version that could do with the ppc 2003? Anyone? please suggest.
Hi,
I was reading post from "JeffreyK" and saw you are from Australia, I am having problems with GPRS and I was wondering which network you are with in Aus.....

WIDCOMM Bluetooth stack

hi, I need help here...
I heard alot about people running WIDCOMM Bluetooth stack in their Qtek or XDA II to enable bluetooth profiles not found in the original set..my question is how do you guys get this stack??
million thanks...
Yep, there is a lot about Widcomm here, but im a little confused.
Is it possible to download a ready version ( German?) ??
And a description ro use it ?
thanks
Guys, 1st off upgrading to 1.60 o2 rom provides wm2003 sp2 and this contains a much impoved MS BT Stack, I no longer need the hacked widcomm stack you speak of however, it is this:
BluetoothGPS.zip
from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=widcomm do a find on page for BluetoothGPS.zip
It works fine until your machine goes to standby, when you turn the screen on again it throws up an error, you have to disable and re-enable it to get it to initilize properly again, so worked with it until MS got their act together, and now i don't need it - however its a bloody good reserve, and I wont be deleting it from my pc
BTW if your going to upgrade your rom to 1.60 do the unlock too before hand like I did
HTH

BTW if your going to upgrade your rom to 1.60 do the unlock too before hand like I did

Does it mean that O2 ROM is locked? If yes, using what tool you doing unlocking?
Thank you, Paul

Is the 1.60 O2 Rom different than the 1.60 T-Mobile_NL Rom? My OS is upgraded to 1.60 and I still have the issues with the MS BT stack. :x Is the wm2003 sp2 update in the O2 extended Rom? If so, which cab is it?
TIA

No, but my phone was previously service provider locked, to the o2 network, as upgrading rom looses all data and so does the xda2unlock tool this forum offers, I decided to unlock and perform upgrade at same juncture, so i only had to backup and loose everything once so to speak.
SP lock may not even apply to Canadian handsets, or you may not care... However in the U.K its useful to have the ability for xda2 to accept sim cards from the other networks, like T-mobile for example
_______________
No idea what part of the updated rom includes the sp2 component, i suggest you ask your question to followers of that thread would be nice to issolate it
Thank you,
I just was curios because I am thinking to install O2 1.6 to my I-Mate. Basically just checking to avoid surprises.
Thanks

Upgrade to O2 ROM from i-mate- Is it worth?

Hi folks,
I have an i-mate with the following specs:
ROM : 1.72.00WWE
Radio : 1.14.00
Protocol : 1337.24
Ext ROM : 1.72.800
After going through the numerous posts here, I am thoroughly confused. Can someone please clarify the following:
1. Is is better to upgrade to the new O2 ROM? If so which one, since I understand there are 2 versions.
2. If I do upgrade, there seems to be something called O2 active. Would this or any other settings hamper the usage of my phone since I live in India?
3. Can I have the procedure to do this upgrade?
My humble apologies if some of these questions have been answered before, but frankly, I am completely lost! :? Thanks a ton in advance.
Cheers!
Lakshman
Lakshman,
Will try to help you out once by compiling everthing from other threads:
1) There are 2 versions: (thanks to Nighthawk)
- v1.72.187 does not have Blackberry software built in. If you need to use a permanent GPRS connection that will remain connected when phone is used, you should use 187 version.
- v1.72.181 features Blackberry, will disconnect any connection when phone rings, except the Blackberry, Mobile Web and WAP connections. But so far haven't heard of any non UK O2 users able to use the Blackberry.
2) About 02 Active, i find it pretty but useless to non UK 02 users; therefore, once you upgraded your ROM it will prompt you for O2 Active Settings like Country, GPRS or GSM, just hit 'Cancel' and it won't install the GRPS or other network settings. You can still use the O2 Active but a lot of function will not be available for use in India. I removed mine.
3) Not too sure if your unit is CDL or O2 (info from HimaGetDeviceData.exe) but my upgrade was no issue at all; i just download from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12515 and ran the upgrade. If you encounter country ID error, then you would have to refer to DCS's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12101
Hope this helps.

You mean I canot use my GPRS after cancelling and what other network settings are you referring to?
Can you elaborate? Thanks

RE
Hi Lazzy,
Thanks to your input, I went through the upgrade successfully. Many thanks to DCS for his excellent step-by-step guide to fix country id errors.
I am now facing a curious problem. I downloaded the Appsuite for XDA II provided in one of the forums here. When I try to install the utilities I get an error on my PPC saying could not install, "please upgrade your ROM and try again!" But I believe I have the latest ROM now. Could someone please advise. :?
Cheers!

Hi guys,
thanks for running an awsom website...
I just want some clarification on this thread.
So it is okay to upgrade an i-mate with an O2 Rom such as v1.72.181 and is this the best ROM for devices such as the I-mate currently?
Anyone? please answer my previous question as I really want to upgrade...
bump..
As for the os and radio you can use any 1.72 / 1.17 rom.
The differencen between al the roms is in the extended rom and thus just a matter of functionality you want : choose anyone you like and use dcs' guide to upgrade.
thanks man, I appreciate it.

WM 2003se latest version

I am still looking for the newest version of this OS(English,European or American). I have downloaded the v2.20 Chinese-Translated from FTP,but the translation is a little bit buggy. The characters are not displayed correctly etc. As I have used this version for a while I was noticed, that is more faster and reliable than the v2.06(Diamond 1.2). Does anyone know about some newer version than v2.06 PLEASE? Any recommendation will be appreciated. Very well thanks for some help in advance.

I'm interested in that ROM
Maybe whis Windows 2.2.07WWE comes from this site http://pdamobiz.com/show_news.asp?NewsID=37217. This could be confusing because the site header is 2.20.07 and the zip file is 2.2.07 I'm investigating righht now to see if it's the CHS version.
ahead of u... downloaded that from last night... i tried it.. its CHS.. and i lost my ability to set wma ringtone... but overall im stying with this till thers a WWE version... much faster than 2.06... Golkanavt.. pls pls post urs..
4 Cutefox and others.
And how it appears? As I wrote above,I had problems with translated CHS ROM with text. Is it correct in this release? The wma support is no matter for me.
well u will still see boxes.. thats wat stops me from upgrading to 2.20 chs in the 1st place.. but after today i cant be bothered to go back to 2.06.. i dun get annoyed by this... though i dun deletes folder with boxes in case its sumtin we need to start... i find that at least its more faster... but of cose i miss the wma ringtone ability.. i tried all kind of software.. still wont work... i think the wma problem is due to the change from wmp9 to wmp10... any person hav a solution for this??
i still cant get wma ringtone to work.. but after fiddling around with it i got mp3 ringtone to work instead... i had mp3 associated to pocket music before and i changed it back to wmp... now it works... but not loud enough... i guess better than nothing...,
Windows 2.2.07WWE
As far as i remember i download this file from this site http://pdamobiz.com/show_news.asp?NewsID=37217. But I can't check its version right now cause i haven't any PDA's - i did it for my friends who asked me about new version of Windows Mobile. I'll try to find more details on it ASAP. Besides i can upload it on FTP for everybody
Can we confirm that this version is a Chinese translated to English thus I do believe that this rom is the 2.20 which BuZz worked on it?
yup i can confirm that.. i downloaded this version yday... it says WWE version but once loaded on the splash image it says CHS... and true enough most folders inside have block as names... on the topic of this, is it safe to delete these folder with boxes names though??

HI findus
Thanks for the reply.. Great link...
I have also been having the same issue as tucson where I do not know what Update to use?
I am running an XDA II with the following ROM:
ROM Version: 1.66.00WWE
ROM Date: 02/20/04
Radio Version: 1.08.00
Protocol Version: 1337.18
ExtROM Version: 1.66.165
I live in Australia so need a ROM that will work with the Australian Phone network
Do you have any idea what ROM I should be using? Or what the most stable ROM in that list would be for me to use? There is just so much I don't know what one to use... Also looking for a very simple install..
Any recomendations any one?

It's ment to be a newer version
Also as you can see from my post I am a little worried about doing this upgrade as there seems to be many many many many many steps to follow.
I remember upgrading with the official O2 ROM before it was 1 EXE file I ran and it did it all for me.. Does any one know if there is a file like this to upgrade to 2003SE for the XDAII in Australia?
Just that I use my phone every day and if I stuff any thing up I'll have no clue how to fix it and I'll be without my baby for a few days I recon till I get time to try and fix it?
Thanks once again for getting me a step closer to 2003SE
FB
I think the version I just downloaded might be automated as when i ran it I get the same update screen I did when using the official O2 upgrades
Can any one confirm this for me at all If I proceed is there any work that needs to be done after the upgrade? as far as I can see the update program does it all?
Thanks for the support guys... GREATLY apreciated!
Hear is the direct link on what file I got:

Thanks once again 8)
daveaus has informed me that Sins update is a matter of just running that Setup file and following the prompts...
